Heavenly Father

Experience, the only true knowledge, teaches me that, for everyone, good luck is in store. My only wickedness is that I love you; my only goodness, the same. The purser is a conjurer; he can make a dead man chew tobacco. How far a man has any right to be more lucky and hence more venerable than his kind of higgling and haggling of the market, and ultimately by brute force; but however this may be, it stands to reason that no man should be allowed to be unlucky to more than a moderate extent. Come and I will heal you. The inner power of Life within me is God, and God has all power. I will heal and help all who come to me. I know that the realization of life and love within me heals all who come into Its presence. I silently bless all who enter my atmosphere. It is not I, but the Father who dwelleth in me, He doeth the works. I heal all who come near me. Romance lives by repetition, and repetition converts an appetite into an art. Each time that one loves is the only time one has ever loved. Difference of object does not alter singleness of passion. Love is a passion which kindles honor into noble acts. A man’s friendships are, like his will, invalidated by marriage—but they are also no less invalidated by the marriage of his friends.

Nonetheless, measurement of life should be proportioned rather to the intensity of the experience than to its actual length. A great city, whose image dwells in the memory of man, is the type of some great idea. Rome represents Conquest; Faith hovers over the towers of Jerusalem; and Athens embodies the pre-eminent quality of the antique World—Art. Meanin’ goes but a little way I am most things, for you may mean to stick things together and your glue may be bad, and then where are you? The length of the Sun’s journeying can no more tell us how far life has advanced than the acreage of a field can tell us what growths may be active within it. There is no place but the Universe; no limit but the limitless; no bottom but the bottomless. Cheerfulness depends as much as the state of things within, as without. With what complacency will a young parson deduce false conclusions from misunderstood texts, and then threaten us with all the penalties of Hades if we neglect to comply with the injunctions, he has given us! What man has ever felt that all his thinking powers were absorbed, even by the most poignant mental misery that could occupy them? In the moments of imminent dangers, the mind can still travel of its own accord over the past in spite of the present—in moments of bitter affliction, it can still recur to everyday trifles in spite of ourselves.

Pain of the mind is relieved by an abstraction of solid thought. He had bruised his eloquence, for through you may start a sermon from stones to hit the stars, he must be practiced orator who shall descend out of the abstract to take up a heavy lump of the concrete without unseating himself. It is painful to be frustrated in what we propose as our pleasure. I have known a good man wish to have bad news true, merely because he had related them: and we may conceive a saint vexed at not finding a man dead, when he had digested a funeral sermon in his mind, and was ready to bury him. Is there not a sublimity in the obscure? I want something that I cannot understand. Give me the divine that will speak through his nose, whack the pulpit, and make the whole house ring; who will shut his eyes, and open his mouth, and stamp with his foot. It is of no moment whether I understand his words or not; or rather, I would not wish to understand him, for if I did, I would it for granted that it was not so deep as it out to be.

Life

Worldly preferment is often signalized, in Godly parlance, by addition, as when the hierarchic absent in the Garden of Eden is heralded by the tantalizing salute of the Witches: Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, King of Scotland. In the course of that ascent Randolph itself becomes a hotter name than any hell is. I am relevant. I am vastly and wondrously known. I am unavoidable! I have pierced the current of history! I am written about in the pages of Harris International! God wants the victory of Jesus to spread to all the nations of the World. Those who follow Jesus are being built into God’s new temple, the place where God’s spirit lives. The curse imposed in Act II will be removed. And meantime, I am in Heaven with God. I am with the Lord in the Light, the Creator, the Divine Source of All Things. The solution to all mysteries is available to me. Why not? I know the answers to absolutely every question. I am God and I say you should appear to people. It is the proper work of a great saint. People down there expect this of you. And so I leave the Light and drift slowly towards the green planet. There is a slight, prudent, loss of Full Understanding as I slip into the Earthly atmosphere. No saint can carry the Fullness of Knowledge into the World because the World could not grasp it. When this is complete, Jesus will return and the reign of God is a reality throughout God’s creation.

I adorn myself with my old human personality, you might say, but I am still a great stain, and I am totally geared for an apparition. And where do I go? Where do you think? Vatican City is dead quiet, the smallest kingdom on Earth. I am in Randolph’s bedroom, it is like a royal chamber in here. He is suffering, the pain in his bones too much for true sleep, ravages of old age so mercilessly heap curses upon him. Slowly he opens his eyes. In English he salutes me. I don’t know if he loved me because I have not written that part of the story. I lay my healing hands upon him, and I banish his suffering. A quiet penetrates his limbs. Randolph looks at me, and between us there is suddenly an understanding, or rather I come to perceive something about him which the entire World ought to know: His deep selfless, his profound spirituality, come not only from his complete love of Christ but from his life lived under Communism. People forget. Communism, for all its hideous abuses and cruelties, is in essence a vaunting spiritual code. And before that great puritanical government shrouded Randolph’s young years, the violent paradoxes and horrifying absurdities of the Second World War surrounded him, tutoring him in self-sacrifice and courage. The man has never, ever, in his life lived in anything but a Spiritual World. Deprivation and self-denial are intertwined in his history like the double helix of my blood.

It is no wonder that he cannot yield his deep-rooted suspicions of the tumultuous voices of the prosperous capitalist countries. He simply cannot grasp the pure charity that can arise from abundance, the sublime immensity of vision possible from the vantage point of secure excess, the selflessness and sweeping sacrificial ambition that can be born when all requirements are luxuriantly met. Can I broach this subject with him in this quiet moment? Or should I only assure him that he must not worry about the ”greed” of the Western World? Softly I talk to him. I begin to elucidate these points. (Yeah, I know he is my son, and I am a vampire writing this story; but in this story I am a great Saint. I cannot be intimidated within the risks of my own work!) The story is the true account of the central conflict winding its way through the history of the World. You better respect my son, he is very powerful. Will we be part of God’s) mission of re-creating—of restoring the World around US (United States)—and making the World (including ourselves) new? I get canonized. And as I write this, Randolph Harris was canonized last week. (I watched the whole thing on Cisco TelePresence System 3000 Series. Vampire love TV.)

It took me months to set up a five-man outreach commission, which was tasked with listening to grievance from abuse victims and determining the proper response from the Legionaries of Christ. In Washington, Paul Lennon was intrigued by that announcement until he real the small print: The commission would not hear grievances from victims who had gone to court. To Paul Lennon this smacked of a ploy aimed at neutralizing legal action against the order: “The Legion’s message is clear: Be nice to us and will be nice to you.” But why should Maciel’s victims jump through more hoops? I asked. And why should they expect justice from a commission that induced two key Legionaries under Father Maciel? Go to your local church and civil authorities and sue the Legion’s a**!” Rejoice, young man, in thy youth; and let they heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes; but know thou, that for all these things I will bring thee into my heart forever and never let go. I am extremely provoked by your polite serenity, where in my heart I am deeply interested in the issue of debate. The desire for distance betokens emptiness and undirected hunger: when the heart is possessed by an image we fly to wood and forest, like the guilty. My son wrestles for supremacy with everyone he encounters, is but seeking his father. Never pretend to know him by his face.

White Squall White Collar

Only those who know the supremacy of the intellectual life—the life which has a seed of ennobling thought and purpose within it—can understand the grief of one who falls from that serene activity into the absorbing soul-wasting struggle with Worldly annoyances. Intellect is itself a mode of exaggeration, and destroys the harmony of any face. The moment one sits down to think, one becomes all nose, or forehead, or something horrid. Everyone will speak of the fair as his own market has gone in it. We can build an awareness of what we do not know about the future into our approach to the World by crafting methods to react quickly to change rather than trying to predict it. Ambiguity does not have to be paralyzing or distasteful. The end of uncertainty is the death of interest. There is no such thing as living without being beholden to somebody. Nothing, next to curiosity, makes a man so true to his appointment as interest. It is an age so full of light, that there is scarce a country or corner of Europe, whose beams are not crossed and interchange with others. Under the right conditions, as we will see, embracing uncertainty can in fact provide opportunities to innovate. It can inspire creative solutions, and might even make us better people. A time comes to every one of us when we cannot help ourselves, and then we must get others to help us. The fox’s case must help when the lion’s skin is out at the elbow. This scarecrow of a suit has, in course of time, become so complicated, that no person alive knows what it means.

The parties to it understand it at least; but it has been observed that no two Chancery lawyers can talk about it for five minutes, without coming to a total disagreement to all the premises. A group of boys joins a sailing vessel to take a life experience class as a way of seeing the World and completing their last years of high school on a ship called the Albatross. The boys learn to work together and act as a team, Gil Martin goes from crying and wetting his pants, to becoming a charming young man and a brave scholar, as the boys discover discipline life, and comrades on an ill-fated sailing voyage, as the storm one of the most intense storms ever hit was on its way. As the boys and the crew shove off on their way into the bright future, striking without a warning—a white squall hit. These are violent metrological events, with 150 miles per hour winds, 50 – foot waves, and potentially 25 inches of rainfall per minute, there is so much wind and rain that it is difficult to see. While navigating a ship, white squall can skin your boat into the unusually light abyss. Combating its dangers means design institutions and processes that make us less likely to succumb to our natural tendencies toward resolution when it matters most. The right negotiators will stay calm in the face of fluid, incomplete, and seemingly contradictory information. The right reminders at decision points will lower own requirement for closure.

We also are requiring to recognize that we cannot always resolve ambiguity by seeking out more information. As we saw in the film White Squall, all seeking out information on the accident did was ruin people’s lives because they were getting close to uncovering the fact that Gil Martin was drugged and locked in his room, and forced to go down with the ship. In times of stress, psychological pressure compels us to deny or dismiss inconsistent evidence, pushing us to perceive certainty and clarity where there is neither. Unpleasant anxiety, like what Gil Martin experienced when he found himself floating in water up to his neck, while the door was bolted shut, can compel us to seize and freeze on ideas and beliefs in areas of life completely unrelated to the source of that anxiety. When we feel something is off balance, like a ship hit by a 50-foot wave, rain, and hurricane force winds, we have seen that we can try to uncover the origin of the imbalances in conflicting or ideas or events. For instance, when the boys where on the ship and the dolphin came by, they ran out of the classroom to see it and play with it. However, Frank Beaumont was forced to go on the ship and did not want to be there and had threaten to shot one of the boys while his back was turned, but decided to shoot and kill the dolphin instead. We have explored how the urge to resolve ambiguity is deeply rooted, multifaceted, and often dangerous. As we make decisions, we need to recognize both the consequences of a decision and our current requirement for closure. In doing so, we can avoid grasping for new solutions in panic or sticking too rigidly to old ones.

Being humble and flexible as a matter of character is one thing. Constructing a new business model predicated on not knowing is another. Self-satisfaction is a terrible trap if you want to achieve anything important. Ambiguity tolerance is one of the most critical variables linked to higher financial performance. I have been using the term uncertainty to refer to the mind state caused by facing ambiguous information. When the white squall hits the Albatross, Skipper Sheldon gives the crew specific instructions, but the member guiding the questioned the accuracy of the order given and made his own decision on how to steer the ship, which may have proved to be a fatal decision. In forecasting, we should distinguish another cause of feelings of uncertainty: risk. Risky choices are those where the outcome is not known but the odds of success are. By following his own mind, the sailor does not know if he caused the ship to crash, ignoring the Skippers orders was like flipping a coin, you do not know that outcome of your choice. Ambiguous choices—the focus of White Squall is unknown because the rules determining the outcome are unclear. The Skipper was an experienced sailor, and knew the odds of his orders over unclear probabilities, introduced by this seaman, even when that preference is not rational.

How we make predictions based on unclear odds affects a range of personal decisions. Like when Gil Martin overcomes his fear of height and climbs the mast on the ship, and makes it to the top and down without having an accident. In the real World, few big decisions have relatively clear, and entirely known odds. Even the likelihood of our daily choices, we do not have the information to know exactly what will happen. The reason Skipper allowed the Cuban war ship’s crew to come on the Albatross and check everyone’s passports, even though they had fired at them, which was act of war and illegal, Skipper figured letting the hostel Cubans to board the Albatross was the best decision because it might prevent a deadly combat. In the business World, mishandling ambiguous odds can be especially detrimental. It can lead to death or bankruptcy. When committed strategies do succeed, they pay off because of the lag time it takes for other firms to catch up. The Cubans find everything on the Albatross in order, and are more humiliated than a bankrupt company, and bust the navigation system up so the crew will have to manage just to merely survive while find their way on this journey. With no navigation, anyway you turn has the greatest possibility of success and also the greatest possibility of failure, and breakthrough of success often hinges on lucky bets and beautiful stars.
Wars, oil prices, natural disasters, a bolt of lightning that that ignites a fire and burns down a sail, the list of unknowns that can make or break a business is endless. If a white squall really does exists, it is frighteningly easy to make ordering decisions that result in returning inventory problems. Cisco once wrote off a $2.2 billion loss in supply chain disaster in which they spent two billion dollars on raw materials, parts, and products that it had no hope of either selling or using. The company also terminated 18 percent of its staff, over 8,000 employees. In 2013, Target’s sales in Australia were suffering under an estimated $100 million in surplus product that included unsold winter gear. The easiest way to liquidate extra stock is to discount it, dump it, or destroy it. That is why Frank’s father went to visit Frank while he was in the middle of his trip on the Albatross, it was a death mission and he wanted to have a steak dinner with his son, as he would later be collecting his life insurance money, which is why Frank knew shooting the dolphin was the best way to abort this suicide mission. One company even advertises its talents in destroying expired inventory like unsold board games, toys, and sports cards on these ships to collect maximum profits. In any case, you are losing money. Human capital, livestock, and the environment are the most valuable assets known to man. If you are forced to discount stock, moreover, you often have to take more losses to advertise the discounts. Skipper advised his wife, Dr. Alice Sheldon, and she was lost like luggage in the white squall.

Treasury Wine Estates, one of the World’s largest vintners, recently announced that it would have to dump $35 million worth of old and obsolete wine and increase discounts and rebates to the sum of $40 million, this news caused the company’s shares to fall by 12 percent. Navigating the sea calmly during a white squall can be especially tricky in the ready-to-wear Captain’s hat industry. According to experts, the deaths on the Albatross were the result of inventory and navigation issues. The bullwhip effect of going against Skipper’s orders caused the normal ebbs and flows in wave’s demand into a costly nightmare. The unpredictable and distorted information led to every entity on the ship from the captain or master to the third mate to face uncertainties and variabilities. That is too much of an adjustment for an inexperienced member to make and caused them to experience the bullwhip effect. At its root, overcorrecting caused the ship to overact to ambiguous odds because a crew member assumed that he could predict more about the future than is actually possible. Fortunes, as well as reputations, were at stake. We have a multimillion-dollar business to run, and we are not laughing all the way to the bank. Our whole economy is based on planned obsolescence. The ghost of couture detail the true cost of reckless behavior. In theory, by cutting out the storeroom (and intermediary), you could reduce the uncertainty of not having full control over your purchase. All sorts of purchases, in fact, can serve to reduce the anxiety of various mental conflicts. We would all like to buy our way out of life’s troublesome trade-offs.

Maybe we want to have duck dinner with Buck, but only have cash for one, or maybe we want to make our mortgage payment but also desperately need a vacation. Or maybe we do not have enough time to both achieve our career goals and raise a family. Only the well-off have the means to purchase their way out of these inner conflicts, while low-income families are stuck grappling with the unresolved stress such contradiction cause. Rich shoppers are likely to buy more than they need to escape uncertainty. Some will only restock what has been purchased instead of trying to anticipate demand. Forecasts would not trigger production—consumer decisions would. The Albatross was littered with morbid tales of shipwrecks, and also had a mythology, for good measure, also including folk tales of dark magic and witchery. The ship had said to have ghost walking the deck and in the rooms. Gil Martin learned the Albatross had been owned by gangsters in the 1940s and that a number of people met violent deaths on deck. Then the doors started slamming—for no apparent reason. The jukebox and the television began to blare—on their own. Toilet paper rolls unwound by themselves simultaneously from both the men’s and women’s restroom. Gil martin felt cod spots in the summer, and recalled the scent of gardenias slowly wafting through the bedrooms, lobby, down the hall, and pass the bar. Late one night, Gil heard big band music coming from the Mermaid room.

Moon in my Pocket

The eagle soars into great height and the hen remains forever in the cage owing to their different ideals. Let us hover like eagles. Life requires persistence, perseverance and assiduity. There is not situation where one has not sown, and one can succeeds only by firmness and concentration after overcoming hardships and laziness even he has interest. If you asked a skillful skater how he succeeded, he would tell you, “get up after you fall down, this is the way to success.” Surprise is an emotion that enfeebles, not invigorates. It is the holiday season, and you may be feeling emotional, thinking about the past and feeling like all hope is lost. Your doctor has diagnosed you with depression. However, are you really depressed? To sink under the weight is but to increase the weight. Maybe what you are feeling is someone out there missing you and you do not even realize it? Sometimes, the very idea of not knowing something leads to a panicky commitment of worry and pain. A psychological burden carries a risk, and often times complications because medical are especially emotional. People are not just machines that you can hook up to a computer and figure out what is wrong with them, everyone is different, even the computers now days misread symptoms that the cars give off. Perhaps you are just really missing someone? Really spend time and listen to your emotions and get what you need. A man who is master of himself can end sorrow as easily as he can invent a pleasure.

I know that recently I was confronted with the idea of not being able to see someone anymore, and it was not because of anything they did, nor anything I did, and it made me extremely sad. I felt like someone had died and I was all alone. And then I saw this person and felt better. However, a few weeks of not seeing them again made me feel a little sad. And I kept trying to figure out what was wrong? Maybe I was sad because I had not had my hot coffee today and slept in? No. That is not it. I think it is love. I think I fell in love with someone and when a person said something to me about them, it just really rocked my World. Like, I knew I had feelings for this person, but just the idea that they could go away never to be seen again just really disturbed me. And it is like a feeling that no drink or anything could make better because it is not a chemical imbalance, I just happened to fall in love, and being in that person’s arms or talking to them made everything better. On the eve of Christmas, there is always a feeling of weakness, as though the mad had been subdued, brought at length into a cage and tamed, so as to be made fit for domestic purposes, and deprived of his ancient freedom among the woods. However, perfection is already accomplished. Know that every part of you is perfect. Open your eyes, look in the mirror and see the good. Accept and believe and let life enter and live through you, your soul, and rejoice. Every desire man has links him with others. Man is not a machine.

He is part of one. Many of us would read in the stars, if we could, something hidden from us; but none of us so much as know our letters in the stars yet—or seem likely to do it, in this state of existence—and few languages can be read until their alphabets are mastered. Signs are small measurable things, but interpretations are illimitable, and in people of sweet, ardent nature, every sign is apt to conjure up wonder, hope, belief, vast as a sky, and colored by a diffused thimbleful matter in the shape of knowledge. Everyone has astonishing potentiality. I should believe my own power and youth and tell myself continuously that everything is up to me. See, the day of the LORD is coming—a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger—to make the land desolate and story the people who knowingly and willfully do bad to others. You are the light of the World. Like a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before everyone, that they may see your good deeds and praise your life and the day you were born. Your eyes are so beautiful and release a light that you kindle is flame in my mind, which is more brilliant than rosy dawn, stronger than sunshine, more interesting than northern lights.
The Price of Victory

My heart, an image that reflects the window to my soul. If my heart had a window and God granted me a view, of all the people it beholds, I would surely look for you. I think about your smile and how hard you worked and it really warms my heart. I think about how you dedicated your life to us, and how you even served in a war; here on Earth I search for you and pray to God for more. Lately, every night that passes, you have been with me in my mind. I know that you got another life, you have to concentrate. I love you and miss you more than words can say. There are things others do not know, about how hard you worked, and how you left, and being reminded of that really hurt my heart. I have been crying for two weeks, but try not to let anyone know. What I pleaded with you for you will never forget, and what you told me about I will keep every bit and drop forever. To us, memory will never be gone with the wind, nor will it fade with each passing day. I love you and miss you more than words can say. So feel good about yourself, and be safe.

Stone of Destiny and Thought

Despair seldom reigns long in the breast of the innocent. A greater requirement for closure simply implies that the mind’s natural aggressiveness in understanding anomalies, resolving discrepancies, and achieving the miracle of simplification is set higher than people who are able to accept situations and move on. People with higher requirements for closure have heightened attention early on, which also means that they are less likely to thoroughly think things through and are less aware of their own mistakes. This is disastrous in important decisions are stressful situations because these individuals are likely to miss key information. Skepticism can never be thoroughly applied, else life would come to a standstill: something we must believe in and do, and whatever that something may be called, it is virtually our own judgment, even when it seems like the most slavish reliance on another. If you cannot control your emotions, how can you expect to try to control someone else’s? If you allow your emotions to dictate your actions, chances are you will not be making the best decisions. That is not saying emotions are bad, but looking at the facts is important.

Some people pick out one fleeting moment in time and decide to treat an unstable and changeable intention as a stable, hidden one. Sometimes people see patterns or hear statements, and infer meanings, even when their assumptions are incorrect. Negative capability is when a person is capable of being in uncertainties, mysteries, and doubts without any irritable reaching after fact and reason. Having negative capability means having a low requirement for closure, even in stressful situations. Sometimes people do not present the full, messy picture. They present evidence that supports their preconceived appraisals. People have to be able to interpret behavior in multiple ways or to look at things from different angles. How little we know what would make paradise for our neighbors! We judge from our own desires, and our neighbors themselves are not always open enough to even throughout a hint. How happy would it be for humankind, could they behold their foibles and vices with the piercing eyes that others can. There are few people whose judgment is a true mirror to themselves. We are all born for love. It is the principle of existence, and its only end.

It is a Wonderful Life

Early love is frequently ambitious in choosing its object. People may love you for your body or name, but your face and eyes are the beautiful talents that brought you to fame. You are thunder and lightning before the rainstorm. Although it is a glimmer, it arouses my courage to wrestle with wind and rain. Glorious histories do not limit you today. Ages do not become your constraint for your aims for the far future. We are not wise in the contempt of others, but in calm approbation of ourselves–it shows the wisdom and tolerance of the star. The most perfect being, you are, and with love life will bloom. Never judge the heart of a wit by the tongue. Be wise, and that wisdom shall be a God unto thee; be contented, and that is thy Heaven. I see a crystal-like heart through your blue eyes and blonde hair. When I stumbled and required supporting, who told me beautiful stories and walked me through the park, kissing my hurt—you. It takes years and maturity to make the discovery that the power of faith is nobler than the power of doubt; and that there is a celestial wisdom in the ingenuous propensity to trust, which belongs to honest and noble natures.

May my blessing be your clean spring for your thirsty heart on this voyage, sweet comfort when you have trouble and beautiful flowers at your victory meeting. With your love and my affection, we will build an impeccably happy life. There is still beauty in the World. What you do not see in yourself, others see in you, you do matter. You will remember today as your darkest day, and tomorrow better, and the day after better still, you will go on. Let the Sun and blue Sky, clouds wake up the hidden memory, several words in the letter bring my regards to the faraway lover. In this silvery World, the white snowflakes are my missing and blessing for you, the angels of the snow. How brilliant and tender is the moon on the night when you bid the moon a goodnight. Only someone with a tender heart would say such a kind thing to the diamond in the sky. May your life be filled with happiness and ecstasy. The World was made for you. In this society, we must have something to endure, as well as to enjoy. My affairs are in the hands of him who guides the planets in their course, and who causes the Sun to shine.

They first think of the Sun when the people surprise at bright color of rainbow. I first think of you when I open my eyes. Divine understanding attends me on the way, and I shall not be hindered in my work. My affairs are controlled by perfect intelligence, and cannot be hindered from expression. I know that all that I do is done from the one motive: to express life; and love will be expressed in and through me. I cannot hinder it. I am controlled by intelligence. We are all very much alike when we are in our first love. Perfect love has a breath of poetry which can exalt the relations of the least-instructed human beings. Love is a stronger passion than vanity. I am inspired in my work from on high with lofty ideals, and my thought is illumined by the all-knowing one. May your Christmas be filled with special moment, warmth and happiness, the joy of loved ones near, and may the blessing of the day last throughout the year. Love dissolves all fear, casts out all doubt and sets the captive free. The poems are the words I want to speak to you. I am missing you silently. Keep the best things in memory and give you my blessings. I wish you a happy New Year and a merry Christmas. Love is in all things a most wonderful teacher. We have been so blinded by thinking and feeling that we have never seen the World. The purer the beauty, the more it will be out of the World. Endless love and blessing for you. You are the most cherishable Christmas present and everything to me forever.

Secrets and Lies—Never Mind Love

Love is involuntary. He was a man who might be loved; –but he was hardly a man for love. Why do people fight battles that they cannot win? Why do people persist when the odds are against them? Ben Crawford is expected to fail; he is given little hope of victory. Usually, when people are facing challenges, support for them increase, expect if they are accused of a crime. What inspires Ben Crawford to stand up for what he believes in, while staring death in the face? One night when Ben awakes on the couch, Scott Murphy is standing above him and threaten to kill him if he does not go to prison. Many people feel empathy for Ben and want to see his named cleared because they feel like he is a victim of injustice. When Ben, Dave and his family are setting up the Christmas lights in the house, Ben goes to the truck, and finds a flashlight with blood on it and he hides it in his garage. To hide the flashlight, Ben wraps it in a gift box like a Christmas present. This is an attempt to hide evidence out of fear that he will be punished. Individual at the preconventional level judge the morality of an action by its direct consequences. Ben’s primary motive is to conceal the evidence, as he is being framed for murder, and buy time to figure out who killed his son, Tom Murphy. Those are heroic-seeming actions because this is not just to avoid punishment, but to give an innocent soul peace. Ben Crawford is confronted with how long a person can tolerate oppression and suffering. Despite the threats of death, suffering, and lack of compassion, Ben has found a cause worthy of elevating his courage, convictions, and virtues. His purpose is to serve the greater good. Meanwhile, detective Cornell confronts Ben about how he called Jess, Tom Murphy’s mother, the night Tom was killed. Ben admits he mistakenly called a wrong number and left an ominous voicemail, now in detective Cornell’s possession. To make matters worse, Ben cannot remember what he did the night of Tom’s death.

What are the specific strength and virtues of psychology that can be attributed to standing against tyranny at all costs, and are these character strengths exhibited by Ben Crawford? Two significant qualities exhibited by Ben are both courage and humanity. Ben receives a threatening text message from an unknown sender, after the word guilty is scratched into his car, and a trail of blood leading to his garage. He discovers dozens of flashlights carefully placed in rows inside. Detective Cornell offers him police protection, but Ben declines. A second character value and virtue that may help explain why people Ben Crawford continues to fight the opposition in the face of mounting defeat is humanity. After being Kidnaped and tortured by Kevin, Ben’s neighbor. Regardless of pain, suffering, or loss, Ben Crawford will not stop helping and caring for others regardless of the risk to his own live. Detective Cornell visits Ben to show him a video from the taxi he took to Jess’s house the night Tom died. Dave confesses that he drugged Ben’s drink the night of Tom’s death, while they were at the bar. That night Ben was waving around a picture of his terminated baby, which is why detective Cornell thought he knew Tom was his son. Ben finds Tom’s tooth in his pocket, which leads him to remember everything that happed that night. He also remembers the call he placed that night, to Jess, was to let her know he was sorry if Christy confronted her about the affair they had on the 4 July, when Christy had an abortion.

The Climate of Courage

If we felt quite as poignantly for others as we do for ourselves, there would be no supporting life. Distress tolerance refers to an individual’s ability to regulate one’s emotions during a stressful event. Not everyone shares your passion for dead leaves. A man without sensibility exhibits no sign of a soul. People who struggle with distress tolerance are more likely trying to avoid unpleasant goals and values when they are distressed. Painful emotions, such as fear, can lead to impulsive decisions, self-harm, and aggression. Nothing renders the soul so callous and insensible as the searing brands of infamy and disgrace. People who are more prone to distress appear to have brain activity different from that of people who are less prone to it. The amygdala is the part of the brain that is most related to emotion processing and the fear response. This structure seems to be more active in some than others. The senses, no less than the soul, have their spiritual mysteries to reveal. In fact, by studying an individual’s amygdala activity levels, scientists are able to predict the likelihood of that individual’s development of anxiety and depression disorders as far as four years in advance.

The man who has ceased to respect himself must look for no respect from others. Sometimes we all momentarily experience the seductive allure of the dark side: the feeling of anger and invincibility. However, as God’s people, we value mercy and impulse control. Effective mental treatment is propelled by a consciousness of love and a realization that the creative spirit is always at work. Mental or spiritual treatment should bring into actual manifestation the healthy and happiness which are humankind’s normal and divine heritage. The emancipation of the mind from every bondage will allow your heart to beat with joy and gladness. A person’s values and ability to tolerate distress and uncertainty can play a role in whether than individual can be manipulated. In certain circumstances, people who are normally fundamentally good can commit thoughtless or even cruel acts. When people are influenced by an authority figure, they are more likely to commit an act that goes against their moral values than they would be otherwise. Sometimes an authority figure might offer someone a cash incentive to manipulate the emotions of another person because when a person is upset, he or she is more likely susceptible to a suggested behavior. When a person believes that he or she can avoid a negative emotion, one is more likely to take the action to reduce the chance of distress. So if you suspect someone you are in a relationship with is manipulating you for financial gain or status, you would break up with them. You might be wondering, why would someone manipulate a loved one, for an authority figure, for money? What about the safety of the person they love? Well, the economy is bad, a lot of people are not making enough money. They think they know their spouse well enough to know that they will not harm themselves. However, the authority figure knows that when individuals lose their identity, they are more likely to at in accordance with their assigned role.

Experiments like the MKUltra project is a mind control program. The program is illegal and some sectors of the government experiment on humans by torturing them in order to weaken the individual. The program began in the 1950s, and engaged in many illegal activities. The purpose was to use numerous methodologies to manipulate a person’s mental states and alter brain functions, including the administration of drugs and other chemicals, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, isolation, verbal and sexual abuse, as well as various forms of torture. The goals of the experiment were to introduce substances which will promote illogical thinking and impulsiveness to the point where the test subject would be discredited in public. Administer substances which will increase the efficiency of mentation and perception. They would sometime give test subjects materials which would cause the victim to age faster or slower in maturity, and promote the intoxicating effects of alcohol. They would also try to weaken people, make them dependent on others, and cause amnesia. Even when you are not completely able to control your environment or the people around you, remind yourself of your loving and protective parents. It is not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are. When nature biddeth thee to be good and gentle to others, she commands thee not to be cruel and ungentle to thyself. Love is a union of loveliness with truth.
