Happy Columbus Day!
Many of you say that Christopher Columbus was not a hero, and that he was a mean person. However, if not for Christopher Columbus, most of you would have never been born and the World would be much different than it is today. Christopher Columbus has been credited with opening up the New World, America, to European colonization, but he is also blamed for destruction of the native peoples on the Island he explored. Christopher Columbus made four trips cross the Atlantic Ocean from Spain: in 1492, 1493, 1498, and 1502.
Christopher Columbus made one of the greatest discoveries in the history of the world – North America. Though he probably was not the first explorer to see the continent, and he believed until his death that the islands he encountered were in the Asian continent, his discoveries were instrumental in the establishment of Spanish colonies in North America. Today, we celebrate Columbus Day in October to commemorate his discoveries.
Christopher Columbus had a hard life, he was the son of a wool merchant, and was born in Genoa, Italy in 1451. As a teenager, he got a job on a merchant ship, his first voyage was into the Atlantic Ocean in 1476, and it nearly cost him his life. When French privateers attacked his ship, as it sailed north along the Portuguese coast. His boat was burned, and as the boat sank, Christopher Columbus clenched a piece of wood, clung for life, and made his way to Lisbon, Portugal.
As Christopher Columbus recovered, he studied mathematics, astronomy, cartography, and navigation. He married Felipa Perestrello, and the couple has one son, called Diego, in about 1480. Tragically, Christopher Columbus’ wife died soon after he moved to Spain. Christopher had a second son, a love child with Beatriz Enriquez de Arana, the boy was called Fernando. Christopher Columbus took his plan for a three ship voyage to several, but was rejected.
However, Christopher Columbus knew he was destine to be a great explorer and took his plan to the Spanish monarchy of Isabelle of Castille and Ferdinand of Aragon, in 1480. Their nautical experts were also skeptical and initially rejected the plan. Yet, they kept Christopher Columbus on payroll because their focus was a war with the Muslims, and Christopher would have to wait.
After the Spanish army captures the last Muslim strong hold at Granada, in 1492, Christopher Columbus continued to lobby the royal court and in January of 1492, the monarchs agreed to finance his expedition. On 3 August 1492, Christopher Columbus left Spain in the Santa Maria, with the Pinta, and the Nina by his side. Christopher Columbus engaged in several other missions and expeditions to Africa gaining knowledge of the Atlantic currents flowing east and west from the Canary Islands. Muslim domination of the trade routes through the Middle East made travel to India and China difficult.
After stopping in the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa, Columbus’ ships hit the open seas. Covering about 150 miles a day, the trip was long and grueling. The crew was afraid of sea monsters and grew more restless every day land was not sighted. Columbus offered a reward for the first person to sight land. On 12 October 1492, a crew member aboard the Pinta sighted one of the Bahama Islands.
In the Bahamas, Christopher Columbus traded jewelry with the natives, who wore gold necklaces around their necks and in their hair. Christopher Columbus and his men proceeded with his journey, visiting the islands of Cuba and Hispaniola (which is not Haiti and the Dominican Republic) and he met with leaders of the native population. However, during this time, the Santa Maria was wrecked on a reef off the coast of Hispaniola. Christopher Columbus and his men salvaged every item they could and built a settlement called Villa de la Navidad (Christmas Town) with lumber from the ship.
Thirty nine men stayed behind to colonize the settlement. Christopher Columbus was convinced that his exploration had reached Asia, and he set sail for him with the two remaining ships. While he was away, the Navidad settlement had been destroyed and all of the sailors massacred. Christopher Columbus, upon arrival at Hispaniola, forced some of the natives into labor to rebuild the settlement and explore for gold. His efforts produced some gold, but made the native people hate him, and sent some 500 slaves back to Spain. Sometimes the World needs a monster, not a hero.
Christopher Columbus, on his third voyage, reached the mainland, exploring the Orinoco River in the present day Venezuela. However, the conditions at the Hispaniola settlement had deteriorated to the point of near mutiny with settlers claiming they had been misled by Christopher’s claims of riches and complaining about the poor management of his brothers. The Spanish Crown sent a royal official to arrest Christopher, and stripped his of his authority.
Christopher Columbus was to face the royal court. These charged where later dropped, but Christopher lost his titles as governor of the Indies and for a time, much of the riches made during his voyage. Convincing King Ferdinand that one more voyage would bring the abundant riches promised, Christopher Columbus went on what would be his last voyage in 1502, traveling along the eastern coast of Central America in an unsuccessful search for a route to the Indian Ocean.
A storm wrecked one of his ships stranding the captain and his sailors on the island of Cuba. During this time, local islanders, tired of the Spaniards poor treatment and obsession with gold, refused to five them food. In a spark of inspiration, Christopher Columbus punished the islanders for taking away the moon. On 29 February 1504, a lunar eclipse alarmed the natives enough to reestablish trade with the Spaniards. A rescue part finally arrived, sent by the royal governor of Hispaniola in July and Christopher Columbus and his men were taken back to Spain in November of 1504, and he died in 1506.
King’s World Class Ransom!

In the cold courts of justice, the dull head demands oaths, and holy writ proofs; but in the warm halls of the heart one single, untestified memory’s spark shall suffice to enkindle such a blaze of evidence, that all the corners of conviction are as suddenly lighted up as a midnight city by a burning building, which on every side whirls its reddened brands. Violent crime in Sacramento is up by as much as 40 percent, and as Mayor Kevin Johnson meets with the Sacramento Police Depart to figure out why, many people are pointing fingers at him. As you know, Mayor Kevin Johnson is one of the most corrupt politicians the city of Sacramento has ever seen. Not only is the Mayor suing the city of Sacramento, the Sacramento News and Review, using tax payer funds to conduct private business, bankrupted the National Conference of Black Mayors, has been using city email accounts for private business, has private employees parading around as public employee, embezzled money from a character school, sexually assaulted a city employee, and now that a credible case about Mayor Kevin Johnson molesting a minor have come forth, ESPN has decided to postpone a film called “Down in the Valley,” which is about Mayor Kevin Johnson saving the Sacramento King’s basketball team.

Mayor Kevin Johnson is one of the Key characters in the film, and along with director Jason Hehir, ESPN will reexamine the presentation and content. The Presentation for “Down in the Valley” will still happen at the Crest Theatre on K Street, in Sacramento, California, and in may or may not be hosted by the Sacramento King’s as planned. However, the film could change before it is released to a national audience to include the sexually molestation charges against Kevin Johnson. Charges where never filed by prosecutors in the case against Kevin Johnson molesting the teen because he and the teenager and Kevin Johnson entered into a $230,000.00 settlement in 1997, which included a payment to the teen, therapy, and a payment to the teen’s mother. The film has been delayed by vice president and executive producer of ESPN, John Dahl, and director Jason Hehir because they want to make it clear to the public that they “are not tone deaf and we are aware of the renewed focus on certain issues.” It has also been reported that director of “Down in the Valley” as well as the Sacramento King’s Basketball team has allegedly been told not to attend tonight’s premiere of the film. With these revelations, the term “Allegations” is now trending in Sacramento, California, United States, and there is now a judicial review of Kevin Johnson’s secret emails being processed. Justifiable is a suspicion that a man is capable of doing what he hath done already, and that it is possible for one who hath been a villain once to act the same part again.

A Dramatic and Beautiful Story from a Local Hero

Love and labor, are two beautiful old fashions that began long ago, with the first pair in Eden. Some people say love is hard to find, and maybe it is? However, when you find the right one, you just know. Some people are brave enough to admit they are in love and form solidarity of the race and the ties that are as real and vital as a physical fraternity. Men, who learn endurance, are they who call the whole World brother. Love is capricious and involuntary; reason cannot direct its choice, I am very happy to announce that Olympian, Tom Daley (age 21), from Plymouth, Devon, United Kingdom is engaged to marry Oscar-winning screenwriter, Dustin Lance Black (age 41), from Sacramento, California, United States. Love is a flower that grows in any soil. I am so impressed because the two are young and very successful and known around the World, and they did not let anything stand in the way of their love. It was not long ago that Dustin Lance Black thought about hurting himself because he did not think he would be able to admit who he truly was. And now he is an openly gay man and getting ready to marry a huge Olympic star and they are confident enough to share their romance with the World. This will open many doors for others who may have at one time been ashamed or afraid to admit who they are. This is a dramatic and beautiful story and one that I am happy to bring you, the audience. There is so much going on in the World right now that it is nice to take a moment out of the day and hear about something good, hear about two real heroes, two pioneers. Now the two can live a more joyful and purposeful life. Some boys are born lovers. From the time they can reach our from the nurse’s arms, they must be billing and cooing and choosing a mate. I wish these two young men the best. God be praised for love’s young dream. Real love and truth are stronger in the end than any evil or misfortune.

The Ultimate Driving Machine for Lasting Quality
Today was such a wonderful day, I received a phone call saying my BMW was ready to pick up from the shop and it made me so happy. So I took the Regional Transit Train to the BMW shop, it was a very nice experience.
The shop that did the work on my car is called M Power Motors, it is an Independent BMW service, and they promise Honesty and Quality Service, and that is just what I received, and more.
The engineer was a nice man called Brian. He was very professional and I feel so special that I was able to get him to work on my car, he did a great job with the repair, and even gave me a huge discount, he really made me feel like my happiness is what mattered most. I will take my car back for future service, and I highly recommend this shop to you all.

You Will Use Algebra in the Real World!
Opportunities and motivation are connected. Motivated people see opportunities, and opportunities are often what motivate people. Great attitudes precede great opportunities. Who you are determines what you see. Today is the best day for an opportunity. Opportunity always takes now for an answer. Opportunities are the result of pluck, not luck. The people who succeed seek out opportunities, and if they cannot find them, they create them. Opportunities do not present themselves in ideal circumstances. If you wait for all for someone to create an opportunity for you, you will never leave your house.
Employee training in financial accounting has paid off for Jack Stack at SRC Corporation in Woodridge, Illinois, which rebuilds engines. President and owner of SRC, he was really concerned when his company lost $61,000.00 on sales of $16,000,000.00. He decided that the “only way to turn things around was to get employees to think like owners. However, how to do it? He decided to teach anyone who moved a broom or operated a grinder everything a bank lender would know. That way they would really understand how each nickel saved could make a difference.
Therefore, SRC spent $300,000.00 on financial accounting training for its employees. Each week the company stopped its operations for an hour while its 800 employees broke into small groups to study the latest financial statements. “At first it was not easy for everyone to understand the numbers,” concedes employee Craig Highbarger, “but we have been over the different figures enough times now, if you hand any one of us a financial statement and leave out a few numbers, we can fill them in,” this is why students are taught how to do Algebra.
Y=3/4x + 2
Solution:
Y=3/4x + 2
4y=4(3/4x+2)
4y=3x +8
-3 + 4y = 8
The standard form is 3x -4y = -8
Employees now understand how much it cost to copy a document or turn on a light. Has it made a difference? Recently SRC earned $6,000,000.00 on sales of $100,000,000.00. As a result of this turnaround, SRC handed out $1,400,000.00 in bonuses to its employees, who are now wealthier in both cash and knowledge. Opportunity without commitment will be lost. Abandoned opportunities are never lost—they are simply pursued by the competition. Opportunity is birthed out of problems. If you are looking for a BIG opportunity, find a BIG problem. Opportunities either multiply or disappear. The more opportunities you pursue, the more you find behind them. If they are to survive, opportunities must be nourished. Feed an opportunity; starve a problem. To do a common thing uncommonly well brings success.
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the World a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded. I am a guy who practiced until the blisters bled, and then practiced some more. When I was a kid I carried my coffee to class with me. I would wake up at 4am, go to work, then be in class by 8.30am, until 3.30pm, then pick my sister up, go back to work at 4pm to 11pm. And while I was working had to baby sit my sister, at the job. You are never truly a success until you enjoy what you are doing. You are capable of more than you can imagine—so imagine the ultimate.
Slow? Nope. Trained to Go? Yup.
In this World, sin that pays its way can travel freely, and without a passport; whereas Virtue, if a pauper, is topped at all frontiers.
In classic Hollywood, when celebrities like Veronica Lake, Ava Lavina Gardner, Burt Lancaster, Albert Dekker, Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, and Sidney Poitier graced the silver screen, the studio used to control their images.
Everything from where these celebrities could be seen, what they could say, the pictures that were taken and disturbed, and what they could wear was controlled by the studio. Stumbling out the club on drugs and alcohol was not allowed, nor was speaking out about politics, and I will tell you why.
Celebrities are product, and the things they do and say can impact the movie or television show they are working on. A negative images or abuse of a fan can make someone not want to produce your film, could get your film banned in certain countries, and could bankrupt the studio.
Supposed you are a filmmaker and spend $15 million to produce a film. Over what period should the $15 million be expensed? Yes, it should be expensed over the economic life of the film.
However, what is its economic life? The filmmaker must estimate how much revenue will be earned from box office sales, video sales, and television—a period that easily can stretch five years or more.
If a filmmaker allocates the cost over five years, and the film produces revenue in the sixth year, proper matching has not occurred. Furthermore, in some cases, films flop, and yet the cost are spread out over five years in the hopes that the films will eventually succeed.
For example, in the mid-1980s Orion Pictures (now bankrupt) earned $7,300,000.00 ($7.3 million) in one year, but lost $32,000,000.00 ($32 million) the next year because it expensed 40 films that were not producing revenue.
It was alleged that the company had overstated its income in earlier years because it did not expense these costs earlier. This case demonstrates the difficultly of properly matching expenses to revenues and shows that allegations are just assumptions.
The use of adjusting entries makes it possible to report on the balance sheet the appropriate assets, liabilities, and owner’s equity at the statement date and to report on the income statement the proper net income (or losses) for the period.
However, the trial balance—the first pulling together of the transaction data—may not contain up-to-date and complete data. This is true for the following reason:
Some events are not journalized daily because it is inexpedient to do so. Examples are the consumption of supplies and the earning of wages by employees.
Some costs are not journalized during the accounting period because these costs expire with the passage of time rather than as a result of recurring daily transaction. Examples of such costs are building and equipment deterioration and rent and insurance.
Some items may be unrecorded. An example is a utility service bill that will not be received until the next accounting period.
So if your reporters and celebrities are out clowning, being political, disrespectful, or untruthful, and damaging property, they can bankrupt your company.
The cost of advertising on radio, television, and magazines for such products are sometimes considered prepayments. If we run a long advertisement campaign for soap and bleach, we sometimes report the cost as prepayments if we think we will receive sales benefits from the campaign down the road.
Presently it is a judgment call whether these costs should be prepayments or expenses in the current period. Developing guidelines consistent with the matching principle is difficult because situations vary widely from company to company. The issue is important since the outlays for advertising can be substantial. For example, the advertising budget for the BMW i8 is $22 million.
Conceiver a greater hope of a person, who in the beginning of his or her life, is hurried away by some evil habit than one who fastens on nothing.
Money, you think, is the sole motive to pains and hazards, deception and deviltry, in this World. How much money did the devil make by gulling Eve? And I do not have to sell my soul, I do not care if you do not like me.
Once you win in Oscar, you can basically be in any movie or TV show you want to because people think hear, “Oscar Award winning Actress Reese Witherspoon, or Halle Berry,” and know it is a great production. “My only regret is I could not take Aaliayh home.” J.Cole
SacraMento is for the Mentally Unstable

It does not matter if you work for the FBI, come from three generations of men who have served in wars, or that you family owns so of the most beautiful properties in the city. If you, for whatever reason, end up in a position where you pay below market rate rent, be ready to be treated like you are in high school.

When paying below market rate rent, you have to deal with bug infested buildings, tweakers smoking crack, sexual assaults, battery, and harassment from the office where you pay you rent. It is like an ongoing episode of “Mean Girls,” but everyone is poor, old enough to be you parent, or grandparents, and privacy does not exist, but rumors are taken as facts.

The Best to You Every Morning

Some it is better to be lucky than good. Success is waking up in the morning, whoever you are, whoever you are, however old or young, and bounding out of bed because there is something out there that you love to you, that you believe in, that you are good at—something that is bigger than you are, and you can hardly wait to get at it again today. Sometimes mistakes are blessings in disguise. Will Keith Kellogg was born 7 April 1860, and Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, co-invented flaked cereal. Although Will Keith Kellogg lacked a formal education beyond the sixth grade, he helped change the way people ate breakfast. In 1894, the two brothers were working on an experiment to introduce grain into the diet of sanitarium patients. Some of the grain got too wet, but they decided to roll it and toast it anyway. Voila—the Kellogg brothers had just invented flaked cereal. At first, they sold it by mail order, but in 1906 William Kellogg, believing he could serve a larger market, started his own company, the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company.

Today Kellogg produces 12 of the World’s top 15 most popular cereals. It sells 40% of the consumed in the World. How did it become so dominant? Kellogg’s entrepreneurial vision was grounded in a clever marketing strategy. For example, one early promotion promised a box of cereal to any woman who winked at her grocer. Marketing had been a priority: Think about how man of Kellogg’s cereal, slogans, or advertising jingles are in grained in your memory such as Tony the Tiger (Frosted Flakes) and Snap! Crackle! And Pop! (Rice Krispies). It is almost impossible to imagine growing up without Rice Krispies Treats—those gooey globs of rice are a rite of passage for nearly every American child. However, it takes more than marketing to build a dominant company. Kellogg’s success has also come from careful planning. Management must make many decisions: where to locate, how to finance current operations and expansion, and what new products to sell. Kellogg’s 29,790 employees manufacture its products in 18 countries and distribute them in 180 countries, with more than $14.59 billion in sales. Managing such a colossal business requires vast amounts of accounting information. Kellogg’s is the 59 World’s most valuable brands and is listed as one of American’s best employers.

Faced with a crisis, the person of character depends on oneself. Integrity is the cornerstone of our business. We will conduct our affairs in a manner consistent with the highest ethical standards. To meet this commitment, we will: Engage in fair and honest business practices. Show respect for each other, and our consumers, customers, suppliers, shareholders and the communities in which we operate. Communicate in an honest, factual, and accurate manner. Fortunately, most individuals in business are ethical. Their actions are both legal and responsible, and they consider the organization’s interest in their decision making. However, in some situations public officials, business executives, and respected leaders act unethically. We are all embarrassed by the events that make The Journal read like the Police Gazette.
Tom Taylor’s job at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has changed. He used to pack a .357 magnum; now he wields a No. 2 pencil. Tom Taylor has been an FBI agent for a while, at the age of 37, he started off as a forensic accountant, someone who sniffs through company books to ferret out white-collar crime. Demand for this service has surged in the past few years. In one recent year, a recruiter for San Diego’s Robert Half International, a headhunting firm, had request for more than 1,000 such snoops. Qualifications: a CPA with FBI, IRS or similar government experience. Interestingly, despite its macho image, the FBI has long hired mostly accountants and lawyers as agents.
Wherever you make a career—whether in accounting, marketing, management, finance, government, or elsewhere—your behavior and actions will affect other people and organizations. The standards of conduct by which one’s actions are judged as right or wrong, honest or dishonest, fair or not fair, are ethics. Imagine trying to carry on a business, perform an audit, or invest money if you could not depend on the individuals you deal with to be honest. If managers, customers, investors, co-workers, and creditors all consistently lied, effective communication and economic activity would be impossible. Information would have no credibility.
Corporate fraud continues to be one of the FBI’s highest criminal priorities. The majority of the corporate fraud cases pursued by the FBI involve accounting schemes designed to deceive investors, auditors, and analysts about the true financial condition of a corporation or business entity. Through the manipulation of financial data, the share price, or other valuation measurements of a corporation, financial performance may remain artificially inflated based on fictitious performance indicators provided to the investing public. The FBI corporate fraud investigations primarily focus on the following activities:
Falsification of financial information of public and private corporations, including: False accounting entries and or misrepresentation of financial condition; fraudulent trades designed to inflate profit or hide losses; and illicit transactions designed to evade regulatory oversight.
Self-dealing by corporate insiders, including: insider trading (trading based on material, non-public information) including, but not limited to: Corporate insiders leaking proprietary information; attorneys involved in merger and acquisition negotiations leaking information; matching firms facilitating information leaks; traders profiting or avoiding losses through trading; and payoffs or bribes in exchange for leaked information. Other cases involve, kickbacks; misuse of corporate property for personal gain; and individual tax violations related to self-dealing.
Obstruction of justice designed to conceal any of the above-noted types of criminal conduct, particularly when the obstruction impedes the inquired of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), other regulatory agencies and or law enforcement agencies.
In addition to significant financial losses to investors, corporate fraud has the potential to cause immeasurable damage to the U.S. economy and investor confidence. However, no one is above the law, no matter what rank or badge a person might hold. Corruption by those entrusted to enforce the law strikes at the heart of our criminal justice system and it will not be tolerated. When a law enforcement officer violates his or her oath and the public’s trust by breaking the law, he or she must be held accountable.
In this case, a 24-year veteran of the FBI, Robert Lustyik Jr., age 52, of Sleepy Hollow, New York, pleaded guilty on 30 September 2014, to an 11-count indictment charging him with conspiracy, eight counts of honest services wire fraud, obstruction of grand jury proceeding, and obstruction of an agency proceeding. A childhood friend of Agent Lustyik, Johannes Thaler, age 51, of New Fairfield, Connecticut, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery, obstruction of a grand jury proceeding and obstruction of an agency proceeding, and was sentenced to 13 months in prision. Michael L. Taylor, age 54, of Harvard, Massachusettes, was sentenced to 24 months in prison. Agent Robert Lustyki was sentenced to ten years in prison for Bribery and Obstruction Scheme, and was ordered to forfeit $70,000.00 for soliciting and accepting bribes to obstruct a federal grand jury.
Agent Lustyik and Agent Thaler both pleaded guilty for their involvement in a similar bribery scheme in the Southern District of New York. Agent Thaler was sentences to 30 months in prison in that case, and will serve two sentences consecutively. Agent Lustyik….
According to court documents, from October 2011 to September 2012, Robert Lustyik and Johannes Thaler conspired to uses agent Lustyik’s official position as an FBI counterintelligence special agent to obstruct criminal investigation into Businessman Michael L. Taylor, who owned and operated American International Security Corporation. Michael L. Taylor was under investigation for allegedly paying kickbacks to obtain a series of contracts from the Department of Defense worth approximately $54 million. Michael L. Taylor promised agents Lustyik and Thaler that, in exchange for their help, he would provide the cash and multimillion dollar business contracts. In an email message, Michael L. Taylor told the two men, “I’ll make you guys more money than you can believe, provided they don’t think I’m a bad guy and put me in jail.”
According to court documents, Agent Lustyik attemed to obstruct the investigation into Michael L. Taylor by identifying Michael Taylor as an official FBI confidential source in an effort to persuade the FBI, the Justice Department, and the prosecutors and law enforcement agents in Utah that Michael Taylor’s usefulness to the government outweighed the government’s interest in prosecuting him. Indeed, Agent Lustyik emphasized that indicting Michael Taylor would threaten the nation’s security. Agent Lustyik also sought to take steps to directly intervene in the investigation by interviewing key witnesses.
According to court documents, the defendants boasted about the success of their scheme. In one email message, Agent Lustyik wrote to Michael Taylor, “The rate this is going. I will be indicted way before u ever are!!” Agent Lustyik wrote separately to Agent Thaler, “I can leave [the FBI] in June. But I’m afraid to if [Taylor] gets indicted n I’m not an agent I’m no help. Has he mentioned giving me-u a salary?”
Michael Taylor admitted at his plea hearing that, as part of this conspiracy, he offered Agent Lustyik a six-figure salary and a share of the proceeds from the various multi-million dollar business deals he was pursuing. Acknowledging this, Agent Lustyiik wrote to Michael Taylor, “Let’s just get Utah over with and get stinking rich,” to which Michael Taylor replied, “Getting stinking rick [sic], we are well on the way with that so I have the ball.” (Not that he was involved in his case, but this example explains why Mayor Kevin Johnson is suing the Sacramento News and Review to keep his emails, which are public records, away from the public. There is incriminating evidence in the emails.)
The investigation was conducted by the United States Department of Justice Office of Inspector General. The case was prosecuted by Deputy Chief Peter Koski and Trial Attorney Maria Lerner of the Criminal Division’s Public Integrity Section and Trial Attorney Ann Marie Blaylock of the Criminal Division’s Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section. Trial Attorney Scott Feber of the National Security Division’s Counterespionage Section also assisted in the prosecution.
In other news, with all the new mixed-use high rises and housing developments planned for Sacramento, many residences are wondering why and what they are? A mixed-use housing development project is supposed to reduce the amount of land used to house people, and the term mixed-use means a building subsidized housing, and full price housing, all the same locations. These projects are usually located in bad areas. City officials are trying to convince people in is cool to live in areas where there is high crime and that there are too many big houses using up too much land. Most recently Sacramento Housing and Redevlopment Agency and the City of Sacramento received a $30 million grant to create a new mixed-used development not so peaceful Twin Rivers District. The good and the ill are all one while their lids are closed. People seldom commit sin without intending to derive benefit from it.
Business Insight—You Must be B.I.G. Because You Got Me Hypnotized!

It is so simple that it is revolutionary. The fact is, this formula or principle is misunderstood enough, or overlooked enough, that it can truly be called magic by those who understand it. Ready? Here it is. You beat 50 percent of the people in American by working hard. You beat another 40 percent by being a person of honesty and integrity and standing for something. The last 10 percent is a dogfight in the free enterprise system. “They are the devil disguise,” is how CEO Barry Weinstein described factors. Unable to raise capital from bankers or outside investors, Barry Weinstein turned to factoring receivables. The arrangement was pricey: the factor charged interest of 5% a month, to a maximum of 13% of the total invoice, on any uncollected invoices that were factored. The deal became an endless cycle. Soon Barry Weinstein was factoring all new invoices to get the cash to pay the interest on the older factored invoices. Give the man credit. Like most of us, John Galbreath receives piles of unsolicited, “preapproved” credit card applications in the mail. John Galbreath does not just toss them out, though. In April of 1995, he filled out a credit card application on which he stated that he was 97 years old and had no income, no telephone, and no Social Security number. In a space inviting him to let the credit card company pay off his other credit card balances, John Galbreath said he owed money to the Mafia.

Back came a credit card and a letter welcoming John Galbreath to the fold with a $1,500.00 credit limit. John Galbreath had requested the card number under a false name, John C. Reath, an alias under which he had received two other credit cards—earning exemplary credit. John C. Reath might be a bit long in the tooth (old; absent conclusive documentation), but it seems he paid his bills on time. Failure to observe the foregoing internal control procedures contributed to the Great Salad Oil Swindle. In this case, management intentionally overstated its salad oil inventory, which was stored in large holding tanks. Three procedures contributed to overstating the overstating the oil inventory: (1) Water added to the bottom of the holding tanks caused the oil to float to the top. Inventory-taking crews who viewed the holding tanks from the top observed only salad oil, when, in fact, as much as 37 out of 40 feet of many of the holding tanks contained water. (2) The company’s inventory records listed more holding tanks that it actually had. The company repainted numbers on the tanks after inventory crews examined them, so the crews counted the same tanks twice. (3) Underground pipes pumped oil from one holding tank to another during the inventory taking; therefore, the same salad oil was counted more than once. Although the salad oil swindle was unusual, it demonstrates the complexities involved in assuring that inventory is properly counted.

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered with failure, then to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in darkness that knows not victory nor defeat. People always have two conflicting bents when it comes to their work: The first is the drive to have. It pushes people to focus on what they can get out of their jobs—a higher salary, a bigger office, greater status, a more better position. The second is the desire to be. It prompts people to think about what they can give to their organizations—their very best to ensure that everyone succeeds. Formula for Success: Instruction + Example x Experience = Success. The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me. Therefore, I will praise you among the nations O LORD; I will sing praises to your name. He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to anointed. The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
