Splitting of Heart Rate Reactions—if I Owned Half that Dog, I would Kill My Half!

Human interactions can produce measurable, sometimes dramatic, and occasionally even lethal effects on the heart. No one really wishes to live in constant interpersonal chaos or to be the cause of frequent disruptions of human relationships. Loneliness, the lack of love, divorce, and the loss of one’s children or loved ones—these are not situations enthusiastically embraced by the vast majority of people. The lack of human companionship, the sudden loss of love, and chronic human loneliness are significant contributions to serious disease (including cardiovascular disease) and premature death. An honest man is one of the few great works that can be seen for nothing. Do you not think that, even today, really good work will sooner or later be recognized? Today, forgetting has perhaps grown more puzzling than remembering, even though what for a long time we believed forgotten may suddenly return to consciousness. Today, when I was sitting down, everything was normal and I felt like I was going to pass out, this moment stayed with me for a few moments. Then I went for a walk, and after seeing my dad, then walking back to my apartment, the feeling came back. I am rather inclined to believe that there are underlying circumstances, which are causing me to feel this way.

When people are constantly under stress and experiences things that are done frequently to upset them or stress them out, and they cannot respond, some internalize these feelings. After all, now days when a person does something that is truly offensive and you confront them about it, they pull the “What are you talking about” card knowing good and darn well he or she knows what he or she did was done out of malice and inappropriate. Others are constantly making derogatory comments about loved ones, people who have passed away, or implying that they had sex with your spouse, and after a while it takes its toll, especially when a group of people is targeting you. These are not common situations where someone might accidentally say the wrong thing. This is like a group of adults, who engage in clicks, like those in Mean Girls with Lindsey Lohan, and try very hard to manipulate, sabotage, and convince you something is wrong or that something happened, even when it is false. These are the type of people who find out traumatic events and your allergies and use this information to hurt you. For example, the may have killed your uncle, and the anniversary of his death just happened to be on a Friday, and you are at a party and they start talking about it and making jokes and just do not stop. The purpose is to upset you so they can have a reason to rage against you and fight.

Another example, is these people find out you have a latex allergy, a few months have passed since the death or your uncle’s allergy, and you have recovered from some bad false news about your relationship, which turned out to be false, but nonetheless, shattered your soul. Your uncle’s birthday is coming up, you live in a high-rise building, no one else on your floor has a birthday, and the rules say that decorations in the common areas have to be approved by management. However, someone hangs latex balloons and happy birthday banners all over the floor. Because of the latex, you have problems breathing. Latex allergies cannot shut down the respiratory system, which mean you will choke to death. You report to the management what is happening. They agree to take the balloons down, and you showed them evidence from a doctor’s note stating you have a latex allergy. The next day, the manager wants to meet with you and says it is a festive building and the residences have a right to hang latex balloons, and suggests that she makes a flier with your picture on it so people know it is you with the latex allergy and circulates it around the building. First of all, medical information private and disclosing someone’s medical information is a violation health information privacy. Also, that is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which requires that reasonable accommodations are necessary. It is truly painful to be thus made to live around people who wish you harm and no one is doing anything to stop it.

A person can only endure so much before they have an adverse reaction. And while these people are trying to offend and hurt one to provoke overt behavioral movements, some people experience internal symptoms. If your heart continues to react strongly to a signal, then such a reaction becomes maladaptive. In essence, it is a form of biological preparedness that is unnecessary and will eventually wear out the heart. Research indicates that normal stress is bad, but one can cope with it. However, when you have a group of adults targeting you and getting away with it, for years on end, it does take its toll. Developmental difference in responding to fear and pain were studied in children. About 50 percent of all children placed in the stressful environment of a dental chair do not exhibit overt signs of fear. That is, when they are placed in dental chairs, when they are given a topical anesthetic, or even when they are given a local anesthetic injection, they do not move around or struggle. What was of special interest, however, was that if a child showed no bodily movements, then no heart rate changes were observed. Only when the children moved in the chairs or struggled with the dental assistant did these children show heart rate changes. Their anxiety or fear was expressed simultaneously in both their behavior and their hearts.

This behavior displayed by the children marked contrast to adults who often show striking cardiovascular changes in threatening environments without exhibiting any overt behavioral movements. There is a marked split in some adults between what they exhibit behaviorally and what is exhibited in the hearts. This splitting of heart rate reactions from overt behavioral reactions might be one of the sources of the development of heart disease. The overwhelming physical and emotional destructiveness of this type of social deprivation is clear. Because there are so many aggressors and they have powerful positions, they believe that no one will break up their mob and they can do as they please, even if they are slowly killing an individual. To them, it is a game, and it is fun to watch a person in physical and emotional pain. And if I end up dead, they figure nothing will happen to them because no one is paying attention. However, he or she who kills a man has all his sins to answer for as well as his or her own, because he gave him not the time to repent of them that Heaven designed to allow him.

The Ensouling of City

The city houses the communal soul. Restoring the city means restoring its soul, wrapping the city daily with the act of imagination. The city can no longer be limited to distinct places, for the imagination of city now encompasses the World completely, even if one lives on a farm or spends time in the wilderness. Renewal of the soul can no longer rest on a fantasy of returning to nature; renewal rests on returning to the nature of soul. Rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repent him of the evil. Now nature too is a psychological construction; it did not exist until the advent of the modern city. Now that city is all pervasive, we need not hold on to nature’ instead we must relate city to Earth. The city is our home, but the Earth is our dwelling place. We live on the Earth, beneath the Sky, the drifting clouds, and the Stars, and the golden Sun. The Sun lights our World and gives warmth and measure the course of day; the glow of Moon bathes the night and its changing cycles from the rhythms of the ocean and growing plants. The weather forms the season. They play of all these elements differs according to where we are on Earth, so that a city is not just anywhere, it is a particular locus of the Earth elements, an expressive play of those elements that are the forming forces of its soul. The love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given to us. The Lord has risen indeed. The first act of imagination required to regenerate the soul of the city is the locating of the photograph within actual places of the World. Imagination congeals into the city—a complete imaginal, mythical World that grounds, sustains, and enlivens the soul, clothing it with a habitation and name. However, the city, seen through the soul, is a gathering together of elemental beings of the World soul into a particular landscape in order to be brought further into the workings of the World—as city.

Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people: for unto you is born the city of Sacramento, which is the city of sacrifice to the Lord our God, as he belongs to mercies and forgiveness. Landscape becomes art when shaped into the architecture of the city. When cities begin to all appear the same it is because the Earth has been forgotten. The concern with planetary ecology represents a similar forgetfulness of the particularity of a place, requiring a disembodied caring that leads to abstract programs and ideologies. Better to awake each morning with the small exercise of remembering that you are here, not everywhere. The ensouling of city then becomes an individual task, a daily exercise that strengthens the powers of the soul. Better city planning will not alter anything because such planning takes place in a technical World. Each individual must open the door to the World, travel through the image. How can we possibly say what might be good for a city when we have only to focus attention on the first object in sight to find that no one has ever really looked from its point of view. If we are to speak of the city, we must become unconscious of ourselves and take the side of the soul of the city. See what other people are choosing to blame. Other people who have had similar circumstances have forgiven, forgotten, and handled the same situation in a totally different way. We have to be honest and realize that we are blaming because we choose to blame. This is true, no matter how justified the circumstances may appear to be. It is not a matter of right or wrong; it is merely a matter of taking responsibility for our own consciousness. It is a totally different situation to see that we choose to blame rather than think we have to blame.

Why do people blame others? In this circumstance, the mind often thinks, “Well, if the other person or event is not to blame, then I must be.” Blaming others or ourselves is simply not necessary. Most of us struggle with feelings of uncertainty about ourselves. Much of the time these are not intense; occasionally, they rise like a flood, threatening to drown us in the White Squall of worthlessness. Usually, such feelings are minor in intensity and manageable in their effects. For despotically dependent persons, however, the sense of insignificance ruthlessly rules their lives. These people not only feel, but also believe, that they can have no real say in their lives. Their position does not warrant it; their abilities to cope do not include it. We have to find a way to assist the dependent person to move from a feeling that he or she can have no say to a feeling that he or she has some say. Enable oneself to be responsible for not acting responsibly. At the core of unhealthy powerlessness lies a healthy power. It is that power—that source of ability and intention, that source of significance and satisfaction—which we seek to liberate. No one can give another a sense of significance. All we can do is to resist the undertow of helplessness and hopelessness. All we can do is to encourage the flowing tide of risking responsiveness. We shift the focus from ourselves to the other, from our carrying the weight of the other’s life to the other, from our carrying the weight of the other’s life to the other carrying the weight of his or her own life. As the balance of burden shifts to a proper balancing of interdependency, what had once been a depressant turn into a source of delight.

Let’s go Play in the Snow–who does what Work in the Relationship?

Human life is like a shadow, no sooner seemingly enjoyed than vanished. Nobody can perform the most basic human acts for another. Nobody can believe for me; nobody can be baptized for me; nobody can die for me. These—and other—fundamental personal acts can only be done by myself. There can be no proxies, no stand-ins, no substitutes. Either I respond or there is no response. Either I work or there is no work accomplished. Either I grow or there is no growth in me. Meaning for myself is my work, work which nobody else can do on my behalf. Oh God, who art the author of peace and lover in concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom: Defend us thy humble citizens in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries, through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. The virtue of the World is not mainly in its leaders. In the midst of the multitude which follows there is often something better than in the one that goes before. As a strong and supportive helper, or a strong and involved leader, or a distrusted and rejecting exploiter (depending upon the pattern of the dependent person), I can advance ideas, hunches, strategies, and meanings. They are all grist for the mill. However, in the end—in that decisive moment of transformation from the possible to the actual—it is the other who thinks ad knows and acts. And if the other does not, no thinking and no knowing and no acting on my part matters.

Nothing is more common than to call our own condition the condition of life. What works for us may or may not work for others. This is especially so when we experience the pressure of the dependent person to have us do his or her work. My meaning, the way I connect this event with that event, can never finally constitute another’s meaning, the way the other connects this event with that event. Whenever you experience the lethargy of dependency in another, examine closely who is doing what work in the relationship. Whenever you find you are feeling too supportive or too directive or too exploitative, you may be certain you have taken over too large a share of the load. Even more, under such circumstances you are doing what you cannot do: namely, express the uniqueness of another’s life experience. The feeling state of apathy is associated with the belief, “I cannot.” The mind does not like to hear it, but in reality most “I cannots” are “I will not.” The reason the mind does not want to hear this is because “I cannot” is a cover-up for others feelings. These feeling can be brought to awareness by posing the hypothetical question to oneself, “Is it true that I would not rather than I cannot? If I accept that ‘I will not,’ what situations will be brought up and how do I feel about them? It must be remembered that we are free to acknowledge and surrender our feelings, and we are free not to surrender. We are free agents. However, it makes a big difference in our self-concept to realize that “I will not do something” is quite a different feeling than to think that “I am a victim and I cannot.”

Trust a boat on the high seas to bring out the Irrational that lurks at the bottom of every thought, sentiment, sensation, or emotions. If we want, we can choose to hate somebody. We can choose to blame them. We can choose to blame our circumstances. However, being more conscious and realizing that we are freely choosing this attitude puts us in a higher state of consciousness and, therefore, closer to greater power and mastery than being the helpless victim of feeling. However, we may find ourselves provoked into reacting in certain ways because of the exaggerated intensity of the dependent responses. We feel an obligation to care about the other. We know the demand to dominate the other. We sense the pressure to exploit the other. We find ourselves trapped in a box of logical illogicalness. The dependent person narrows his or her actions in such an aggressive way that the World around is trained to take over. The biggest payoff of blame is that one gets to be the innocent victim and the other party is the bad one. We see this game played out in the media constantly, such as the endless blame games dramatized in a multitude of controversies, character assassinations, and lawsuits. In addition to the emotional payoff, blame has considerable financial benefits; therefore, it is a tempting package to be the innocent victim, as it is often financially rewarding. However, blame is the World’s greatest excuse. It enables us to remain limited and small without feeling guilty. Also, the role of victim brings with it a self-perception of weakness, vulnerability, and helplessness, which are the major components of apathy and depression.

Bring some Giggle Water and I will Play in your Hair!

That inexorable law of human souls, that we prepare ourselves for sudden deeds by the reiterated choice of good and evil which gradually determines character. Although there are specific features to each room of the house, the soul of the room rests in the conversations it sets up with things. The multiplication of rooms reveals multiple dimensions of soul, or depth. The animation of the bedroom, for instance, shows through the things of the bed, the chest of drawers, the carefully arranged lamps, mirrors, bedspread, and vanity. The same with each room. Things detail the image, making it particular. However, things are alive when they are able to express themselves in multiple ways. The loss of being an active person in the World produces a fairly obvious common quality: namely, the feeling of being a victim. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 7

There is in every disposition a tendency to some particular evil, a natural defect, which not even the best education can overcome. Some people refuse to assume responsibility for himself or herself. These types of people who avoid accountability participates in the interaction primarily to provoke others to take over and carry the load. One shows only enough cards to make others play the game. Overt effort is kept to a minimum. Deliberate avoidance is kept at a maximum. One’s intentions are disguised and hidden. The person actively acts in ways designed to keep him or her from having to act. Because little that one does is out in the open, the individual experiences the loss of being an active agent in the World. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 7

It is more useful capacity to be able to foretell the actions of men, in any circumstance, from their characters, than to judge of their character from their actions. Because the person’s intentions are disguised, others fail to meet unvoiced expectations. That failure results in a continual source of disappointment and frustration for the dependent personality. His or her requirements fail to be met in ways he or she wants them met: “How could this drama happen to me? Why did you not buy dinner for me? How could you do this to me?” Even when most elevated, the human mind is not equal to the influence of two opposing passions. Resentment and bitterness pervade the passivity and dependency. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 7

I love a virtuous character, as much in man, as in woman. The dependent person feels that his or her own “good intentions” are all that count. Whether or not one invests oneself in the relationship is irrelevant. Both wit and understanding are trifles, without integrity. Whether or not one involves oneself in the task does not matter. All that counts is one’s physical presence. One is there; what more could others want or expect! Our actions obey an unknown law, implicit in ourselves, but which does not conform to our logic. It is as possible for a person know something without having been at school, as it is to have been at school and to know nothing. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 7

To discuss medicine before the ignorant is of one piece with teaching the peacock to sing. Dependent people resent their dependency. Because of their need to please and appear responsible, they disguise their resentment. They take part in activities hesitantly and reluctantly. They “forget” easily and often. They find “reasons” to slow things down. Behind a surface acquiescence lurks a deeper aggressiveness. “I will participate but I will withhold as much of myself as possible, for despite my dutifulness, I have not been given what is due me.” They resent going along, yet go along out of fear of losing the other or out of fear of having to be accountable. Not really knowing their own anxiety creates the experience of being a victim, they assume that oppressed status has been imposed by others. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 7

One that hath gone through many perils and returned safe from them, makes but a merriment to dilate them. With dependent personalities, legitimate needs are transformed into neurotic claims. What in fact is an understandable need gets changed into a special, exceptional, inalienable right. “I need to be taken care of; others, therefore, must take care of me. The World should be at my service and I should not be bothered.” Things ought to come without one having to make an effort. We may be told that getting our anger out of our system is good for us, but the way we express it can make things worse for ourselves and the recipients of our anger, as when we merely unload it without any regard for them. Discharging the energies of our anger does not necessarily mean that the anger itself has left our system. #RyanPhillippe 6 of 7

Unconditional care and concern are expected regardless of one’s own provocative behavior. No matter how one acts, one deserves the best. No matter what the circumstances, one’s needs are to be met then and there without delay. Simply because one desires help, one deserves help. The World exists for one’s own purposes. The suffering of dependent personalities works to bolster the legitimacy of their claims. The difficulties they meet in trying to please others make them special. The handicaps they labor under in trying to make it in life prove they are exceptional. By means of misery, they manage to accuse others of failure and at the same time to excuse themselves of their own failure. Suffering sears others and salves themselves. Never give more than a second place to the World’s opinion. #RyanPhillippe 7 of 7

What is it like in a Victorian Mansion?

A crucial challenge is to stop treating disillusionment as a problem or something negative, and use it as an awakening force. Neither flee from nor lose yourself in your shame. Stay present with it, feeling it as fully as you can, nothing where in your body you sense it most strongly. Remember that the more compassion and vulnerability you can approach your shame with, the greater the odds are the you will handle it skillfully. To be disillusioned is to see through illusion, in conjunction with releasing its hold on us. We thus become disenchanted, no longer spellbound by our conditioning. And far more able to skillfully approach our edge. As such, disillusionment is a kind of sobriety, a catalyst for waking up, a great opportunity. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 10

Honor is the acknowledgment which the World makes of a man’s respectability. Challenging—and being challenged by—others is essential for our growth as is nurturance, but this does not mean that relational challenge is always a good thing. As a person shifts the dominant locus of power-and-love from warm and appreciative to the hostile and resisting, we come indifferently dependent personality. Rather than being either warmly close or hostilely distant, I tend to become neutral. All good ends can be worked out by good means. Those that cannot, are bad; and may be counted so at once, and left alone. I can only be dishonored by perpetrating an unjust action. Look, all who were angry at you will be ashamed and humiliated; your adversaries will be reduced to nothing and perish. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 10

Nonchalance, detachment, and unconcern characterize the love dimension. There is a kind of matter-of-factness in the relationship. People are neither turned on nor turned off by an individual like me. I do not fear inspection. I cannot act in disguises. Thrust Nature back with a pitchfork, it will return. I do not wish to have it in my power to do hurt, and my aims are not at secrets. I acknowledge your strength and competence because direction, domination, and leadership characterize the power dimension, where there is a strong expectation that you carry the full load of responsibility, but I have built you up and put you on the spot and you are talking about: “I can’t handle what’s here and I don’t care what happens. You take care because I will not. I am inadequate and inferior, so don’t count on me.” #RyanPhillippe 3 of 10

If we deliver our challenge poorly (with a closed mind and cold heart), we are left shipwrecked on the reefs of our differences; and if we do not deliver it, we drift on stagnant seas, removed not just the reefs but also the depths. Transparency, integrity, and emotional literacy are closely linked. And do not make such practice something you engage in only when you are in the mood! You experience yourself as nothing and so do not participate in what is going on. All you do is focus on your own exaggerated abasement. Since I have known you, you never give any evidence of expectation or plans. “Who am I to want or need anything?” is the attitude. The sense of resignation comes across powerfully and persuasively, and what you do grows increasingly limited. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 10

People say there is a restriction of wishes and wants. No serious involvement can be seen of me in the community, and they feel like I am an indifferently dependent to be an ever-present and an everlasting statue, not allowed to interact. By acting nonchalantly dependent, I reduce the anxiety and uncomfortableness of having to be responsible and responsive in any way. I am being sensitive to the impact my delivery is having. Your behavior directed towards me makes me happy to have the opportunity to do what I do every day. However, I feel the pull of your managing, directing, bossing, domineering, and so I tend to respond with strong impersonal behaviors because you have been trained to look down on me and leave me alone. My apathy and resignation secured disengagement for myself and more domination from you. You withdrawing is an appeal for freedom. Even libertinism has its laws of honor at least. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 10

If you do not recognize and have some degree of intimacy with whatever we have, you can use it as a means to dehumanize or abuse others—however civilized or rational its demeanor—we pose a danger not only to ourselves but to others, no matter how nicely we generally behave. What really matters here is not so much the presence of this inner darkness, but the kind of relationship we choose to have with it. To seek freedom from others is neither unusual nor abnormal. In freedom I find breathing space necessary for my own being and becoming. However, the exaggerated search to avoid real involvement creates the static between us. Since you have the authority, you decide what to do. I really do not care what it done. Since I am a weak and inferior person, you must manage both of us. #RyanPhillippe 6 of 10

I was a shy boy, ultrasensitive, and dreamy, and I was also peaceful. I remember being pursued by two bullies every day after school when I was seven or eight; it was a mile walk to the house from school, and they were usually a short distance behind me, taunting me and chasing me and throwing rocks at me, but not quite catching me. (This may have been the start of my high school track career.) However, one day they did catch me. I still recall the spot, a grassy area near the local store. I was terrified, feeling them upon me in a noisy chaos of fist and shifting weight, but I fought back. To my utter surprise, I defeated them both, outwrestling them and forcing them into submission, as though I had been trained to do exactly that. Honor is a more valuable thing than life. #RyanPhillippe 7 of 10

Whatever initial direction we provide for such individuals quickly intensifies into chronic domination. We find ourselves irritated and annoyed by the lack of response. We disapprove of their behavior and eventually disregard their presence. By means of their complaint, resistant passivity, they successfully avoid outward activity and inward change. All that matters is getting out from under having to be part of anything and having to relate to anyone. Precisely because one is both weak and withdrawn, others are expected to be strong and involved. It is easy to stay hard in our anger, masking any vulnerability or hurt we might be feeling. However, it is harder to feel and express our anger while maintaining at least some care for the one we are angry at, not letting our anger slip into reactivity and aggression. #RyanPhillippe 8 of 10

Probably the biggest challenge for men in shifting from unhealthy to healthy anger is that of being vulnerable in their anger, letting the heatedness and intensity of it coexist with some degree of heart, and openly feeling and showing whatever emotions are co-arising with their anger, like sadness or grief. Empty platters make greedy stomachs, and where scarcity is kept, hunger is nourished. Larger windows do something different. They make the house self-conscious, more open and vulnerable, more unsure. Large picture windows change seeing through into looking at and being seen, instilling paranoia in the house. It is as if the inside did not wish to be exhibited or displayed, its veil of mystery removed. At night when lighted from within, the house is betrayed by the large window. Are passersby not embarrassed to be so privy to the inner life of the house? However, the inner glow of light through small windows, on the contrary, lets those who pass by sense the inner warmth of an interior life. #RyanPhillippe 9 0f 10

His cloak of religion was always ready to cover the dirty stable. The room without a window is the prison cell of the house. Such rooms reflect only individual personality, as if the house did not matter. Prisons lack windows for exactly this reason. They are places without dreams. The criminal becomes a criminal to himself when faced with his own image on every wall; the object of the architecture of the prison is to impress upon the criminal who he is: to appeal to his conscience to seek forgiveness. Love frequently dies of time alone—much more frequently of displacement. We would feel suffocated without windows; windows give breath to the house. With breath comes rhythm and a different inferiority than empty space which is static because it cannot experience the constant exchange of inside and outside. #RyanPhillippe 10 of 10

Secrets and Lies—did Ben Really Rape Jess?

Windows allow the house its dreams. They make the house psychic, interior space. There is part of some people that wants to cling to negative emotions and make others feel like they are worthless. It is the part of human nature that is the exact opposite of forgiveness and generosity. We have to start looking for the feelings of forgiveness within ourselves and stop resisting it. Picture yourself being generous, forgiving, loving, and experiencing your inner greatness. Instantly, there will be an enormous increase in muscle strength indicating a surge in beneficial bio-energy. Letting go of negative feelings can be accompanied by another very healthy maneuver which will greatly assist your inner transformation, and that is to stop resisting the good emotions. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 10

Metal doors are absolute barriers, which are primarily defenses. Some people initially confront us with negative feelings. The person stands away from us, wanting to be hostile and distant. Aloofness, lack of identification, and alienation characterize the love dimension. What could be more unsettling than a move against or apart from us. That makes us feel disliked or unloved. A good and very illuminating exercise is to sit down and look at the feeling that is directly opposite the negative one that we are experiencing and begin letting go of resistance. Part of human nature is that it is always willing to forgive, but some people think they might appear slow. Nonetheless, by holding resentment, you are actually suppressing love. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 10

The person stands against us even as he or she acknowledges our power and strength are doing so out of resentment, cynicism, defiance, and bitterness characterized by the power dimension. Our strength is conceded, but our stewardship of that power is questioned. We are set up and knocked down simultaneously. That makes us feel inadequate and unworthy. The distrustful, hostilely dependent person is always saying something like this to us and the World: “I know you are wrong, you son of a bitch! You can’t do anything right; you are always letting me down. Why do you always ignore my rights and overlook my needs? What kind of man are you anyway?” Such persons want to remain the everlasting brat—critically infantile forever. Their behavior is intended to produce, elicit, and provoke from others strong rejection and punishment. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 10

These persons are expressing intense distrust. They experience themselves as victims, violated both by significant persons in their World and by the impersonal structures in which they find themselves. I met a man once whose erectile capacity was completely destroyed by a spinal-cord injury in the precise region of the lower spine where erectile function is controlled. Although he could not get his penis aroused, he certainly had no trouble getting it on! I have often wondered if his acquired status of highly desired lover had something to do with his discovery that erections are not essential to meaningful Netflix and Chill function. Without imagination, windows are no more than holes in the wall. When there are smaller panes rather than sheets of glass, house and window are intimately intermingled. Then the window does not forget that it belongs to the house and that it is the servant of the house’s soul. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 10

Others are blamed for their misery. Such persons are always throwing distractive action or commentary into every situation they are involved in to hurt as many people as possible. We can count on their criticism, their challenge of the commonly accepted and understood, and their complaints about the mishandling of every circumstance. My, friend who I will call Jess, has been struggling ten years to accept herself as a lesbian. She was tired of dating men, but found that a special, meaningful feeling was missing. She came out at work and to her Italian Catholic family and became involved in gay rights activities. She had many relationships with women that did not workout. Rather than seeking sympathy, she stressed her grievances against me. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 10

By acting defiantly dependent, one reduces the anxiety and uncomfortableness of having to be close and responsible. In other word, the hostilely dependent person does not want tender loving care. The expression of sullen disappointment is designed precisely to protect one against such responsiveness. Then Jess met Denise. She like her, respected her, and was very attracted to her. She was looking for a long-term relationship, and the compatibilities and feelings were right. Netflix and Chill function was great until Denise told Jess she loved her. Jess flashed, and told Denise to “Get the fuck out!” Jesse was out to put Denise down while, at the same time, making her feel attacked and undermined. The behavior is an appeal of anger. #RyanPhillippe 6 of 10

Instead of moving toward some compromise, the couple may polarize in opposite directions. The seeking of retaliation and distrust, obviously, is not usual. The exaggerated seeking of distant domination creates the vortex of hostilely dependent personality. Couples who start out with a healthy sexual interest in each other, even if one has a stronger sex drive, you may agree who is in charge of that area of your lives. In the early stages of the relationship, that worked very well for Brenda because she enjoyed the sex. However, Scott was in control and Jesse started to complain, and he was driven by his own interest to pry open the back doors. Scott paid less attention to Jess’s needs and she began losing interest in sex because it became a source of intense embarrassment. #RyanPhillippe 7 of 10

Jess had become more passive and unresponsive during sex, and Scott grew more frustrated. He pressed on for physical sexual satisfaction because he was getting less and less emotional satisfaction from lovemaking. In the long run, a sexual small difference in sexual drive and interest became a big incompatibility. Jess, during intercourse one night said, “Back up off me! I have been disappointed and disillusioned by the World; there is nothing you can do for me. It is useless to collaborate because people cannot be trusted. I’m not like you and there is no way you could understand. The way things are done is wrong; everything you try only makes matters worse.” The personality, needs, and intentions of the dominant person are impugned and undermined. The individual delights in challenging what is generally accepted. He or she contests whatever comes along so intensely that there is little possibility for any kind of cooperation or collaboration. #RyanPhillippe 8 of 10

When sexual activity includes fear of sex and a compelling desire to avoid sexual situations, this is considered sexual aversion disorder. Sexual aversion can range from feelings of discomfort, repulsion, and disgust to extreme, irrational fear of sexual activity. Even the thought of sexual contact and result in intense anxiety and panic. Because of the distantly critical cynicism, spontaneity and surprise are virtually eliminated from the relationship. All the matters is one’s own protection against being close and responsible. Precisely become one is both distrustful and defiant, others are expected to be unreliable and rejecting. As this fear comes up and is let go, one becomes aware of the fact that one has a desire to do the very thing that one fears. #RyanPhillippe 9 of 10

SECRETS AND LIES
With the emergence of this compassion toward others, there is a loss of self-consciousness. Jess was able to realize that lingering feelings of her mother’s disapproval had stopped her cold from allowing herself to be fully happy and complete in a “queer” relationship. She worked through those feelings and is now enjoying her Netflix and Chill function in a loving committed relationship for the first time and with another woman, Detective Andrea Cornell. Sexual partners usually have discrepancies in their preferences for amount, type, and timing of sexual activities. Sometimes the relationship can accommodate these individual differences. However, when sexual differences are a source of significant conflict or dissatisfaction, a couple can experience considerable discomfort. #RyanPhillippe 10 of 10

You are Requested to Shut the Eyes

At a New Year’s Eve dinner the host, the patriarch of the family, ushered in the New Year with a speech. One of his sons-in-law, a lawyer, was not inclined to take the antiquated man seriously, especially when in the course of his speech he expressed himself as follows: “When I open the ledger for the Old Years and glance at its pages, I see everything on the asset side and nothing, thank Lord, on the side of liability; all you children have been a great asset, none of you a liability.” On hearing this the young lawyer thought of X., his spouse’s brother, who was a cheat and a liar, and whom he had recently extricated from the entanglements of the law. When the man opened the ledger, on the side marked asset, he saw his name among others, but on the other side, marked liability, there was the name of his brother-in-law, X. However, the word Liability was changed into Lie-Ability, which he regarded as X.’s main characteristic. His uncle gives him a kiss in the automobile, this means auto-erotism. Some people feel compelled to give expression in an expensive luxury automobile because of all the thoughts and expectations aroused by it. The image chosen for persons who are undergoing psychoanalytic treatment, as a rule of a journey, usually in a motorcar, this being a modern and complicated vehicle; in reference to the speed of the car the patient’s ironical humour is given free play. If the unconscious as an element of waking thought, is to be represented in the dream, it is replaced, appropriately enough, by subterranean localities which at other times, when there is no reference to analytic treatment, have represented the body or the rear end. Below in the dream very often refers to the genitals, and it is opposite, above, to the face, mouth or chest.

He was taken in the car by wild beast, the dream-work usually symbolizes passionate impulses; those of the dreamer, and also those of the other persons of whom the dreamer is afraid; or thus, by means of a very slight displacement, the persons who experience these passions. From this it is not very far to the totemistic representation of the dreaded father by means of vicious animals, dogs, wild horses, etc. One might say wild beasts serve to represent the libido, feared by the ego, and combated by repression. Even the exhibited in the dream as an independent person. I can remember that when I was a child, I repeatedly dreamed that God wore a conical paper hat on His head. They often used to make me wear such a hat at table, so that I should not be able to look at the plates of the other children and see how much they had received of any particular dish. Since I had heard that God was omniscient, the dream signified that I knew everything in spite of the hat which I was made to wear. One might think that in this day and age each of us has plenty to work about—pollution, devastation of land and forests, extinction of the Rhinos, acid rain, overdevelopment; now we are told that in addition, we have to worry about our consciousness. For the real problem is diseased consciousness. This unfortunate effect of the work will stimulate soul capacities that have slumbered long in the history of humanity. You may feel an initial hopelessness as you enter into the faces of the World that I present; but that feeling too is the feeling of being in exile, while nonetheless, within the midst of everything of the World. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, we do not just see out of windows, we see through them. This turns the subtlety of psychic reflection inward. We are drawn to staring through the soul, as if in a dream state induced by this medium.

You every wonder why some adults are mean, always engaging in trouble, and just rotten people to be around? Well, it is because their thoughts, emotions, or sensations or conditioned responses arise to distract attention from the quiet, peaceful emptiness and equanimity of who we all really are which are peaceful people. Some are able to access the different, deeper, impersonal self. When the emotional disturbance is desensitized and no longer experienced in the body, and one is relaxed and peaceful, one can review life lessons during eye movements and describe any distractions from peace and contentment. Targets for eye movements are distractions. Distractions are often persistent habits of mind, obsessive and intrusive thoughts, cravings, desires and addictions, memories, fantasies, self-talk, sleepiness, numbing out, physical pains, itches, discomforts, noises, smells, or visual images, and the full gamut of emotions including strong, good ones. Dissolve any blocking beliefs and go deeper for equipoise in difficult situations, relationships, and distracting environments. Now, what distracts from you being content in life? Do you have any new desires? Sometimes I find that I forgive people too much and feel like my spouse loves me more than anyone else in the World. I went to the door of the temple and went inside. I had become more religious and am married to God, and he is an even higher power than he was before. And I spend hours every day praying to God and trying to do things to restore that inner light in myself which attracted God in the first place. I heard about my brother’s death while eavesdropping, crouched on the upstairs landing, up too late and being wild. I overheard my parents talking about it. I had an image of a peaceful, loving God, who holds us all close to his heart and sees everything and will protect you. I have to be a good guy so God will love me.

My brother’s death created, a traumatic event about which I had been mourning. As a child, I felt that his death and my being wild by staying up late without permission and spying on my parents were somehow linked, and that God was protecting us. That loss can be terrifying because one had denied in oneself and given to others the very qualities necessary for being itself. By acting warmly dependent, one reduces the anxiety and uncomfortableness of having to be responsible. Behavior is directed toward getting from others the very support and strength one feels one does not have in oneself. Others experience the pull of caring, helping, nurturing, teaching and so tend to respond with strong, friendly behaviors. By pleasing and appeasing, one secures both protection and help. The behavior appeals to love. The seeking of love from others, obviously, is neither unusual nor abnormal. It is love that makes the World go round. However, the exaggerated seeking of strong love creates the drag of the warmly dependent personality. “If you love me, then you will not hurt me. I love you dearly; therefore, you should love me in return and give up everything for the sake of my love. Because you mean so much to me, you should take care of me and my requirements. I am unable really to take care of myself. I look to you to give me answers. Since you are so wise and I admire your insight, you should share your wisdom with me.” The personality, requirements, and limitations of the strong, loving person are disregarded. A result of the anxiety which prompts the neurotic to cling to the other person. One who is drowning and clings to a swimmer does not usually consider the other’s willingness or capacity to carry him [or her] along. All that matters is one’s own desperation at being left alone, deserted, and abandoned. Precisely because one is both weak and warm, others are expected to be strong and supportive.

The Doors–You Know the Day Destroys the Night

We are seeking symbolically to reconcile Heaven and Earth, essence and existence, infinity and the finite. When conflict is minimized, security is maximized. Contrariwise, when the patterns are dramatically different, there is a chaos in the personality. Exaggerated differences makes for contradictory and competitive inconsistency, a convulsive civil war where conflict is maximized and security minimized. We have to realize that people are different is this is why there are interpersonal relationship problems. Even though, as human organisms, we possess the same basic stuff, we exhibit great variability. The individual is always more than species. The individual cannot avoid his individuality. What is helpful and desire for one may not be so for another. We are different, and that difference makes a difference. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 7

Here are five working assumptions about my patterns of interpersonal interaction: I behave in order to reduce my own uncomfortableness; my interaction with others is designed to elicit reciprocal responses that fit in with and continue behavior that reduces my anxiety. How I behave may be adaptive or maladaptive, depending upon its frequency, balance, accuracy, and intensity; personality exists on various levels, including the public and the conscious, which are interpersonal, and the private, the valuational, and the ground, which are intrapersonal; despite a basic commonality, individuals are different in every respect. With these assumptions before us, we can now be more mindful in our interactions with each other. #Ryan Phillippe 2 of 7

A behavior initiated from the distant side is intended to produce a distant response. To return an intended distant response with a warm, friendly response is to disrupt the other’s security pattern. This disruption is particularly baffling for most people in the helping professions. We are warm and friendly. When such responses only antagonize certain people, increasing their already uncomfortable pattern, we are bewildered. In fact, what is happening is our mistakenly moving too close at a time they are requiring some distance. Attending to such imaginative vision does not require us to become mystics or to take the inward journey but rather to give attention to the World. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 7

It does not matter if you live in an apartment, condominium, high rise, loft, or house, the pace where we wake up every morning provides the most immediate opportunity for awakening soul to the outer World. The image of the house evokes archetypical, permanent aspects of Earth connected with the desire to feel at home in the World. The house is more than a box which to live; it is a soul activity to be retrieved from the numbness of the World of modern objects. Each place of the house, each room, hallway, closet, stair, and alcove is a distant structure that animates different aspects of the soul. Some say I do not have a soul, I guess that is why I want a Victorian mansion, so I can feel a connection and excitement about the other like others do. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 7

Without such differences, eating, sleeping, Netflix and Chill function, sitting, bathing, even talking become merely biological activities. And these activities revert to the biological when the soul does not wrap the impoverished dwelling. The particular soul qualities with which I wish to clothe the neglected house are the imagination of doors, windows, and rooms. For a psychology taking it stance on the side of the World, doors have soul. They are guardians of boundaries, they sever both to divide and to connect psychic topography of the house, keeping its imagination multiple, and each part in direct or indirect relation with every other part. Doors make and mark tensions between the diverse elements within the house. The most complex door is the entrance, for it must bear the greatest tension—keeping the inside secure without barring entry completely, signaling the individuality of this house while appearing commonplace. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 7

The importance accorded the entrance of the house shows in the ornamentation framing it. Where such framing is absent, the patterning or figuration on the door itself announces the necessity of hesitancy, of a moment of purification and initiation before entering into a sacred body. What are you willing, tell me what you are willing to do? Kiss it, kiss it better, baby. The art of the door makes of arriving, departing, and returning a ritual process that assures that the house will not be taken for granted. Clothe your entrance with such images. Door possess magical qualities in stories, fairy tales, and folklore. They are the entrances and exits through which imagination moves. I come through acknowledging our strength and care. #RyanPhillippe 6 of 7

Appreciation, admiration, and teachableness characterize the power dimension. What could be more enhancing than the desire to receive from us? That makes us feel competent. It Is possible to live in one room; many do so, but those who live in a single room create many invisible doors. Doors introduce time and rhythm into the house, acting as punctuation marks, slowing the restless urge for movement into pauses. Certain kinds of doors suffer in the extreme and require particular soul care. We are focusing on exaggerated, too intense, inappropriate patterns of give-and-take. It is as if there are too many heavy towels and soaked sheets on one side of an automatic washer, causing it to stop its regular functioning. We chased our pleasures here, dug our treasures there, but you still recall the time we cried. Break on through to the other side. The gate is straight, deep and wide. #RyanPhillippe 7 of 7

In the Silent World of the Broken Heart

Swedish subjects with relatively severe cardiovascular heart disease frequently expressed poor childhood and adult interpersonal relationships, felt they had too low a level of income, and regretted their past and/or current working conditions. Evidence that the lack of human companionship or disrupted social relationships may lead to the development of arteriosclerosis and sudden death can also be found because they are aggressively involved in a chronic incessant struggle to achieve more and more in less and less time, against the opposing efforts of other things and other persons. People suffering from this personality syndrome tend to develop arteriosclerosis prematurely and are far more subject to sudden death than individuals who do not have these Type A personality traits.

Even when the Type A person exercises moderately and maintains a well-balanced diet, he is much more likely to suffer from the development of premature cardiac disease and death than the non-Type A person. I have examined thousands of individuals from all walks of life, long before these individuals developed any measurable symptoms of coronary heart disease. If the individual had a Type A personality profile, the researchers were able to predict with a high degree of certainty that premature cardiac disease would eventually manifest itself. While the great majority of the individuals I examined were married, I observed that Type A personality engaged in a lifestyle that guaranteed a high degree of social isolation, not only from acquaintance, but also from the intimate family. Often the Type A males were work addicts, to the point where they grossly neglected their spouse and child(ren).

In making this choice, it is well to look at the payoff we get from hanging on to the residuals of a painful experience. What are the satisfactions we are getting? How little are we willing to settle for? Anger. Hatred. Self-pity. Resentments. They all have their cheap little payoff, that little inner satisfaction. Let us not pretend that it is not there. There is a weird, quirky pleasure when you hang on to pain. It certainly satisfies the unconscious need for the alleviation of guilt through punishment. One gets to feel miserable and not rotten. The question then arises, “But for how long?” The true revolution of our times is the disappearance of friendship. Most of us are so far out of the habit of searching for friends and retaining them that we feel it awkward and painful to begin. However, there is nothing so satisfying as success in this regard, and nothing so basic to the problem of subduing the Type A’s free-floating hostility.

The rise of human loneliness may be one of the most serious sources of cardiovascular disease in the twenty-first century. And yet, while it is easy enough to advise patients to seek out new friends and acquaintances, this simple advice is often difficult to obey. The reasons for this will be examined later. The acute social isolation and loneliness can, and indeed frequently do, exist even when an individual is married. Such marital break downs can be linked to the Type A personality and to the official development of cardiovascular disease. In order to completely understand the link between human loneliness, lack of love, and cardiac disease, it will be officially necessarily to differentiate the happily married from those who are unhappily married. One benefit from a life crisis is greater self-awareness. This situation is overwhelming, and we are forced to stop all of our diversionary games, take a good look at our life situation, and re-evaluate our beliefs, goals, values, and direction in life.

In my research on psychosocial characteristics of 10,000 Swedish adult males before any symptoms of coronary heart disease had appeared, during the five years of observation, I noted that those men who mater had a myocardial infraction reported far more frequent dissatisfaction with their marital life. For example, men who reported that they felt a lack of emotional support from their spouses were far more likely to become heart attack victims. In a retrospective study, I found that patients with coronary heart disease reported a greater number of marital problems then did a control sample. The occurrence of marital problems and a sense of interpersonal rejection antedate a surprising number of acute myocardial infractions. Marital status and the lack of love has been linked to development of coronary heart disease.

It appears that the individuals who are supported by love and a secure family and community bonds can cope much better with stressful psychological situations than individuals who are deprived of such support. When men who placed an inordinate emphasis on their work and therefore neglected their spouses and families were more likely to develop subsequent cardiac problems, and had a great deal of marital dissatisfaction, the subsequent myocardial infractions can be completely understood. There is, however, sufficient evidence now available for us to anticipate a connection between marital discord and the development of coronary heart disease and premature death. And even for single people, in a surprising number of cases of premature coronary disease and premature death, interpersonal unhappiness, the lack of love, and human loneliness seem to appear as root cases of the physical problems.

I am most willing to go on psychological trips of one sort of another, confident that I can return to the illusion of the World concrete stability. With the approach to the soul of the World that follows, that illusion is take away, as the work of centuries to produce a World of God is exposed. Control will be possible. I am accompanied by an archetypal helpmate. This soul mate does not offer stability but functions as one through whom it becomes possible to enjoy instability and navigate in it, though not to control it. Through the reflective glass and the thin façade, we discover that such places cry to be clothed with soul. You might feel that the house provides the required soul place where rhythmic regeneration takes place, but houses now lack the same psychological roots in the Victorians of the past. It is left to the interpretation of the dream to restore the coherence which the dream-work has destroyed.

Secrets and Lies—Shutting of One Eye

My honor is my own keeping, beyond the reach of mankind. It was not too long ago that when you walked down the street you knew someone. Now there seem to e so many strangers. Even at the risk of seeming to interrupt our progress, I shall take a preliminary glance at the process by which the interpretation of dreams is accomplished. I do not deny that the best way of explaining them, and convincing the critic of their reliability, would take a single dream as an example, to detail its interpretation. At this point we are interested exclusively in the essential dream-thoughts. These commonly reveal themselves as a complex of thoughts and memories of the most intricate possible construction, with all the characteristics of the thought-process known to us in walking life. It is left to the interpretation of the dream to restore the coherence which the dream-work has destroyed. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 21

If dreams lack the ability to express these relationships, the psychic material of which they are wrought must be responsible for this defect. As a matter of fact, the representative arts—painting and sculpture—are similarly restricted, as compared with poetry, which is able to employ speech; and here again the reason for this limitation lies in the material by the elaboration of which the two constructed arts endeavor to express something. Before the art of painting arrived at an understanding of the laws of expression by which it is bound, it attempted to make up for this deficiency. In the antiquated paintings little labels hung out of the mouths of the persons represented, giving in writing the speech which the artist despaired of expressing the picture. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 21

However, why should one be virtuous when it is so much easier to let evil prevail? Often the speech is only an allusion to an event contained in the dream-thoughts; the meaning of the dream is quite different. Of course, this is not the only way to read what science implies about the future. It is also possible to see nothing but meaningless chance at work in the World, and be discouraged by it. In fact, good is the creative overcoming of inertia, the energy that leads to the evolution of human consciousness. To act in terms of new principles of organization is always more difficult, and requires more effort and energy. The ability to do so is what has also been known as a virtue. As there are virtues which are their own reward, so there are vices which are amply their own punishment. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 21

Why should one want to support evolution without the promise of eternal life as a reward? Whether our present consciousness of individuality is preserved in some dimension of existence after death or disappears completely, the unalterable fact is that our being will forever remain part of it. Those who identify with evolution blend their consciousness with it, like a tiny creek joining an immense river, whose currents become as one. There is no wonder that a virtue no better guarded than by a vice should not be a match for an attack on a corrupt sentinel. How can we find goals that will allow us to enjoy life while being responsible to others? We can focus consciousness on the tasks of everyday life in the knowledge that when we act in the fullness of the flow experience, we are also building a bridge to the future of our Universe. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 21

Protocol for use with trauma and limiting belief systems can be held very lightly in sessions. After processing traumas, issues, and blocking beliefs with the traditional protocols, bilateral stimulation can officially process the subtlest of distractions to awareness resting peacefully in itself, from either this or past life memories. Jim’s footsteps are still heard walking across the floor of the upper story of the Whaley House. He routinely makes his way from the upstairs sitting room to the top of the staircase. His manifestation is also occasionally seen in the doorway between the parlor and the reading room—dangling from his executioner’s rope. Witnesses agree that it is not a pretty sight. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 21

Robinson may have been the first of the property’s ghostly inhabitants, but he now shares his eternity with a collection of entities. Because the house is so close to a cemetery and already haunted, it has become something of a meeting place for spirits. The ghosts who congregate in the house are so plentiful and so vibrant that photographers have managed to capture a few of their images. In addition to Yankee Jim, other ghost who are recognized include most of the members of the Whaley family. Thomas Whaley began construction of his family home in 1856. When Corrine Lillian Whaley, Thomas and Anna’s youngest daughter dies at the age of 89 in 1953, a note was found saying that “at least one of the ghost” did not want her presence on the second story of the house. #RyanPhillippe 6 of 21

Yankee Jim Robinson has been haunting the property since he was hanged on the tract of land where the Whaley house was built. Yankee Jim was hanged because two men were charged with a theft. They were sentenced to jail terms but, for undocumented reasons, it was decided that Yankee Jim be hanged. The gallows were erected on the exact spot where Thomas Whaley would later build his house. A spirit described as being a man with a mustache, wearing pantaloons, a frock coat and a wide-brimmed hat, is almost certainly Thomas Whaley himself. Usually his apparition is very solid and clearly visible, one seen, vanishes in an instant. At other times, it is seen as an indistinct blur at the entrance to what used to be his office. #RyanPhillippe 7 of 21

Although the ghost’s face is not recognizable when it appears in that form, his actions are familiar; moments after the phantom is seen, invisible papers are heard being shuffled in Thomas’s otherwise empty office. Occasionally he is also seen walking the grounds of the property, and when a ghostly baritone laugh echoes through the house, it is presumed that Whaley is amused by something. There has been images of ghosts folding invisible clothes, and there are ghostly echoes of a long-ago meeting continue to resonate so clearly in Whaley’s study that an entire group of phantoms can be clearly seen. The images are of men, dressed appropriately for the 19th century, seemingly involved in a very serious conversation. #RyanPhillippe 8 of 21

SECRETS AND LIES
The apparitions are so distinct that witnesses note pocket watches, hair color, eye color, and different body sizes and shapes of the various participants in the ghostly gatherings that has never been adjourned. Even when that vision is not apparent, cold spots and cool breezes are scattered around that room although there is no physical explanation for such phenomena. The most poignant image in the Whaley’s house is that if seven-year-old Annabelle Washburn. The little girl died in the Whaley’s kitchen, brought inside after she ran into a clothesline strung in the yard at precisely the height of the child’s neck. Despite her tragic death, she is a happy and, of course, child-like spirit who simply runs throughout the house and the adjacent yard. #RyanPhillippe 9 of 21

A female apparition wearing a green gingham dress who sits in one of the bedrooms and a dark-skinned woman wearing large gold hoop earrings have not yet been identified. Whether they were associated with the house in life or simply attracted there after death is unclear. Music was an important component of Whaley family life, and it seems to have remained important after their death. Visitors to the house, as well, as those who work there, have heard a female voice singing a song ironically entitled “Home Again.” Musical instruments such as the piano, organ, violin, mandolin—and even a music box—are also heard being played. Reprocessing of traumatic experiences occurs and desensitization is a by-product of the reprocessing so that detachment from old emotional reactions to traumatic memories and core beliefs or interpretations (news stories) about the Self are facilitated. Desensitization and reprocessing are not separate. #RyanPhillippe 10 of 21

Ryan Harris
As the target traumatic experience is reprocessed by bilateral stimulation and cognitive interweaves to break through high levels of disturbance, the associated memories, emotions, cognitions, and physical sensations simultaneously shift and new sense of self and new behaviors emerge. Shifts in all the modalities (cognitions, emotion shifts, sensations, and images) take place during reprocessing as the emotions change, associational connections are made, and insights are made. An annex to the Whaley House originally served as a courtroom. Today, it has been refurbished to reflect how it would have looked during those days. Some of those trials must have been extremely emotion-laden, because it occasionally sounds as though court is still in session—even when the room is empty. #RyanPhillippe 11 of 21

The ghostly sounds of a billiard game being played is a phenomenon that has been examined in depth. Furthermore, protective chains set up around the courtroom move up and down and in a swaying motion when no one is near them. The movement stops whenever a human being comes close by. In other parts of those house, door knobs rattle, light fixtures swing and tinkle, kitchen utensils hanging from hooks on a wall move sideways as though they were pendulums, burglar alarms malfunction and windows mysteriously open. One visitor to the house watched in awe as a bedcover moved when he was near the bed. At other times, the clomping of unseen horses’ hooves are still heard outside as though a phantom carriage were arriving at the house #### limo #RyanPhillippe 12 of 21

Clients are retrained by their own self-regulating healing process and by cognitive interweaves gently supplied by the house along the lines of acceptance and forgiveness. When at the house, people are allowed and encouraged to just allow anything to come up and to report what they get now, permitting full autonomy and free expression of experience without interference from a separate, relative reality. Clients feel in control of the session, not only in choosing the issues they wish to address, but also, if they desire, by starting and stopping a lapscan, light bar, or tac/audio scan, which are the various devices designed to administer bilateral stimulation. From this perspective, reprocessing can invite entertainment vis the interconnectedness of the host and the guest and can naturally recondition the guest around the universal themes of impermanence, trust in Self, nonabidance in the mind, loving kindness, forgiveness, compassion, freedom, creativity, well-being, detachment, and the renunciation of habitual preoccupations of mind. #RyanPhillippe 13 of 21

Judging from all the activity that continues to resonate in the Whaley House, it would seem that the magnificent antiquated home is an excellent haunting spot , not only for the spirits of the long deceased, but also for flesh and blood human beings who are curious about ghosts. Mindful of superstitious and habitual interpretations of what causes change and are scrupulous when using cognitive interweaves to simply point the guest toward the acceptance of life, death, and perpetual change. The ghost and the house target physical sensations in the body as well as emotions, memories, and interpretations of the distracting events or symptoms to be desensitized and reprocessed. #RyanPhillippe 14 of 21

Guest experience emotions arising out of nothing, growing, peaking, subsiding, and disappearing into emptiness. Since they are constantly moving and changing as emotion in motion, they are untrustworthy as a source of security. People has also experienced the flexibitity of thought when negative or self-limiting thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs are naturally replaced by good cognitions during being with the ghost and in the house, while reprocessing. They learned to disidentify from the personality’s vicissitudes of thought and emotion and to identify with a deeper stratum of Being. Although formless, it goes by all names and shows up as all forms, so call it awareness, openness, or Presence; it is eternal and provides the only true security. #RyanPhillippe 15 of 21

Once, after returning from a weekend trip, we heard footsteps running across the floor above, as though running away from the people coming home. We searched the entire area, but found no one. We did, however, find lights burning despite their having been turned off before the trip—and our small child’s riding toy has inexplicably been moved to the middle of the kitchen. Nothing was missing from the house and there were no signs of a break-in. We are accustomed to taking concentration, mediation, picture engineering (or imagining), and contemplation as belonging to individual consciousness when they are, it seems to me, a giving over of individual consciousness to the consciousness that is the soul of the World. #RyanPhillippe 16 of 21

Concentration is the art of forgetting our own subjectivity in order to be fully available to what presents itself. When the activities of personal thinking and personal feeling are stilled, the subjectivity of the outer World expresses itself. Clients or guest are instructed to visualize an inner safe place where they can return as required. This procedure is a direct invitation for clients to go within, quiet down, and discover that safety is already available not. The practice of coming back to the safe place can enhance mindfulness and encourage reorientation to equipoise to the objective reality instead of the subjective, personal story about the client’s suffering. Forgiveness spontaneously arises in the house and around the ghosts, as do spiritual, empty, or numinous states. #RyanPhillippe 17 of 21

Loneliness and shame are often experiences as a solitude and atonement. Many people can no longer hold so dearly to negative beliefs. Just notice and witness the present moment so that we can discover together from oneness a heretofore unimaginable and often surprising outcome to their meeting. Simply stay in the presence of whatever arises. Focus on safety, nonviolence, love, forgiveness, the formlessness of absolute truth. Replace anger with humor and the acceptance of what is. Return again to peaceful calm from strong emotion-laden concepts, and we can eventually lean to consciously rest in the Ground of Being. #RyanPhillippe 18 of 21

Practice sensing the part of you—the vulnerable boy—most strongly impacted by shame, and bring him back into your heart as best you can, both embracing and protecting him. Imagine that one hand is your heart, holding him closely, and the other hand is out in front of you, palm facing from you in a STOP position, keeping your guard. If you feel shame over hurting another, stay with that shame until a feeling of remorse arises, and then make amends from your heart. You can stay by saying: I am feeling awful right now, and I can tell it is about that way I treated you, but it is really hard to talk about. This is the intensification of intelligence, the warmth and light within things. Call to contemplative life relation with the movement of the soul of the World. #RyanPhillippe 19 of 21

These arts of the soul constitute the practice that fosters the attempt to move into the consciousness soul to achieve the fully conscious presence of the soul World. As you shall see, I have eschewed methods that would most easily evoke this kind of presence of the World in order to avoid nostalgic primitivism, a view of the World of nature as better than the actual World with which we must daily contend, and above all to avoid the development of purely personal abilities and powers. Each of these two versions has its special meaning, and leads along particular paths in the dream-interpretation. I had made the simplest possible funeral arrangements, for I knew what the deceased thought about such matters. #RyanPhillippe 20 of 21

Other members of the family, however, did not approve of the funeral arrangements I made for myself because of such puritanical simplicity; they thought we should feel ashamed in the presence of others mourners. Hence one of the wordings of the dream ask for the shutting of one eye, that is to say, it asks that people should show consideration. Have the energy to be easy-going, laid back. Harmonious, flexible, inclusive, and free of inner resistance. Life is good. You and I are good. I feel connected. It meets life on life’s terms. There is no requirement to blame others or blame life. Life is friendly, helpful, wants to assist, and seeks to be of service. The great end of history is to show how much human nature can endure or perform. Be attentive with a deeper level of soul, to perceive the feelings of the World through one’s feeling of the World. #RyanPhillippe 21 of 21

There follows the attempt to become one with the World occurrence, the occurrence of the World which seems at first formally understandable, but whose soul remains hidden. What is now spoken, thought, imaged does not have the aim of being informative, but presents itself in soul in order to be realized. This kind of imaginal thought does not have to have as it aim a flash of understanding after which we fall back into an experience of “now I have it.” The aim is a real dwelling in the element from which are normally only register flashes, and those only after they are over and done with. Realize the soul in the World and also make the soul of the World, to increase the giving our of soul in order to make soul. You want nothing but patience; or give it a more fascinating name: call it Randolph-a charming passion, the only real friend of human thought. All good ends can be worked out by good means. Those that cannot, are bad; and may be counted so at once, and left alone. #RyanPhillippe [Foot Note]
