One can have knowledge of the divine ideas, but the saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom. However, successful people recognize that in life they create their own love, manufacture their own meaning, and generate their own motivation. For instance, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s creative genius continued to flow despite his ill health and concerns about money; he was able to create even in the absence of the conditions most of us would consider basic for survival, and still he became a prolific and influential composer of the classical era. Passion is what moves a person to persevere at something despite fear, unhappiness or pain. It is the determination and motivation to push through suffering for the sake of an end goal. This kind of motivation is an inside out phenomenon, as it has an actual source in the brain. The part of the brain that is activated during motivated activities is the ventral striatum, in combination with the amygdala (known as the brain’s emotional center). Researchers observed that the ventral striatum is activated in proportion to how motivated a person feel: the higher the degree of motivation, the higher the activation level. When engaging in something that is truly meaningful, that feeling of intense creativity, or that feeling of euphoria is real and it is something physiological that happens within the brain. #RandolphHarris 1 of 7
Motivation does not simply give us the energy to work, but it allows us to entirely change our perception of everything that we so. Conversely, our change in perception will start to affect the types of long-term behavior in which we engage. As human creators, we must choose to undertake that crucial trial and error so that the greatest display of extraordinarily high levels of motivation and presentence will be mental skills that are more readily available to us. Creators, however, cannot rely on the environment to recognize successful trials and one must make these decisions effectively for the work to earn the environment’s approval. Yet, we must evolve those criteria for ourselves, which most people neither can nor want to do, or the work will not be our own. Trying to anticipate how others might react hamstrings one’s ability to get on your one’s work and is probably hopeless because those reactions are unpredictable. Genius gives the rule. Its products are not governed by prevailing preferences; it introduces new ones, that others still developing their gifts then follow. Author Isaac Asimov wrote an astonishing number of books during his career—over three hundred. If know can create problems, it is not through ignorance than we can solve them. In an effort to solve problems and activity our creative centers we have to learn the facts, practice techniques, and use our analytical minds as much as we can to get ready for our breakthrough. Using the strengths of our fluid and crystalized intelligence will give us an advantage in life. This work sets the stage for creativity, helps us recognize when it comes, and prepares us for perfecting our creative discoveries. Finding a vision can be challenging. It requires us to imagine that our goal has already been achieved. A vision works as a kind of magnet, drawing us closer and closer to realizing our dreams. God gave us the ability to dream, create and imaging. Dreaming is an act of faith. Everything we see on this planet started as a dream. If God’s blessing on our lives, situations that seem impossible will motivate us to pray more, believe more, trust more, and learn more so that we will grow. Faith always works in the realm of the impossible. Whoever we are, or whatever it is that we do, when we really want something, it is because that desire originated in the soul of the Universe. It is our mission on Earth. Dreams are not silly nor selfish desires that should be ignored. Instead, they serve as the primary means by which people can get in touch with the mystical force that connects everything in the Universe. God has given ever man, woman, and child a dream; a deep-down desire to accomplish something of eternal significance. The more clearly we can articulate that dream, the closer we are to seeing it fulfilled. Most people improve their balance significantly when they envision someone helping them. This is a simple yet powerful demonstration of how maintaining a vision of what we desire will support us in accomplishing our goals. Even with our vision firmly in place, we will not achieve the results we desire unless we put ourselves in a creative frame of mind. Most research on activating the creative process suggest that changing the way we think is more important than any other factor in determining our ability to be creative. The proof of any creative endeavor is its outcome. Our future happiness, personal righteousness, and relationship with the Lord will depend in large part on the habits we embrace and the choices and commitments we make over the years. The Lord only expects us to magnify and develop the talents and abilities we have been given. However, he also expects us to be accountable for our actions in doing so. We learn to dominate our physical needs early in life. That is what potty training is all about. Staying focused, disciplined, and committed to meaningful goals, both spiritual and temporal, is an important—in fact, and essential—key to our success here in this life and in the eternities to come. One of the greatest challenges for all of us is to learn how to live in the World without participating in all that it offers. Worldly standards will always be in a state of flux. The only true and unchanging standards are those set by the Savior. Unfortunately, frequent exposure to what at first is unacceptable will over time legitimize in our minds that which we have seen and heard. It is important that we do not because the victim of this seduction. We have to reflect on what an activity means to us, make sure it is righteous, and build our own motivation for doing it. There are very few people in the World who would shun the idea of success and fulfillment. We can succeed more efficiently when we do what we live. When an individual enjoys something, one has a natural tendency to work at it and become better at it. By doing so, we are effectively building new neural connections that keep multiplying as we keep working. God created us to do something during our lives that only we can do. No other person can fulfill our unique assignment here on Earth. There is no other person to do that that has been exclusively designed for us. Realizing our God-given talents requires faith. Faith makes it possible for us to receive God’s best for our lives. God created us to have fellowship with him through the process of realizing our God-given dream. Our dreams are God seeking expression through us. God has provided each person with everything we need to accomplish our goals. God loves us, God has blessed everyone, and God has made provisions for our success in life. “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to proper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” reports Jeremiah 29.11. God has a future planned for us that includes prosperity, hope, and love. We have been given free will; we can choose to accept the future God has made available to us. Part of life’s success includes that person individuals become in the process of realizing one’s God-given dream. All things are possible to the person who have faith. Love activates our faith. Love is what empowers our faith to receive the rewards and blessings of God. Love is what energizes our faith to realize God-given dreams. Few people have a joy problem, but many complain they feel depressed. Others wonder aloud whether they are turning soft in their maturity: all of the sudden a simple act of kindness, or a news story of tragedy halfway around the World, has the power to bring tears to eyes that never used to cry. Then there are those who have felt so many strong emotions for so long that they fear they have become numb. All are relieved to learn tat these experiences are nature’s signs that they are ready to move to a new level of emotional depth, resilience, and spontaneity. Our intimacy with God grows deeper as our faith and love grow. The power twins, faith and love, will lead the way for our life-changing experience. God’s word will work superhuman power in us and produce result in our lives that are far over and above all that we dare ask or think, infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams. As we learn how to tap into the force that created the Universe, the same power that created the Heavens and the Earth will be available to help us realize our God-given dream. Life has a purpose, and death is not the permanent end of our existence. The immortal soul, once freed from the body, is rewarded according to good deeds or punished for evil. The soul being eternal has had a pre-existence in the ideal World where it learned about the eternal Ideals. Humans are meant to attain goodness and return to the Ideal through the experiences of the transmigration of the soul. Our greatest awakening comes when we are aware about our infinite nature. The eternity of God is the full and perfect possession of endless life always present in its entirety, and the aevitenrity of the created Universe, without beginning or end but existing in the ever-changing succession of time. Aeveternity is the midpoint between time and eternity; the mode of being of the angles, saints, and celestial bodies (which mediaeval astronomy believes to be unchanging). It is an infinite past and future totality, in which events are contained in a matrix, like files in amber. God in eternity has a simultaneous vision of all temporal reality, and he sees dree acts as free. In human beings the form (esse) is mentally separable from the substance (id quod est), whereas in God his being is identical with that which is. God demands nothing of human beings without at the same time giving them the power to comply with the demands to follow his scriptures. “The Lord will surely visit all,” reports 1 Nephi 19.11. #RandolphHarris 1 of 7
The innermost being of the soul is like a vessel into which flows the spirit of God (the life of grace) if the soul by virtue of its freedom opens itself to this vital influx. And the spirit of God is meaning and power. God imparts the soul a new life that makes it capable of doing things to which by its own nature it would be totally inadequate, and he simultaneously gives a definite direction to the soul’s activity. Therefore, every meaningful demand which is made upon the soul with obligatory force is a word of God. For there is no meaning that does not have its eternal home and abode in the Logos (Savior). And anyone who willingly receives such a word of God simultaneously receives the divine power to comply with the demand. Every increase in grace, however, leads in addition to a strengthening of the human being’s spiritual being and opens up to the soul a richer and more penetrating insight to the divine word, into the supernatural meaning that underlies every event and that becomes articulate in the interiority of the soul as an inspiration. This is why a soul which, by virtue of its freedom, leans upon the spirit of God or upon the life of grace and is capable of total renovation and transformation. It is a free activity, borne and sustained by the life of grace, and wilding power over all the involuntary acts of the soul. Truth and virtuous living are the norms of nature. There is nothing freer than love. Love is the height of freedom, as it is an irresistible elemental force engulfing the soul. And the soul really does respond to the impression it receives from human beings—sometimes at the first meeting, at other times after prolonged acquaintance—in an involuntary manner: with affection, with aversion, or possibly with indifference. The soul feels itself attracted or repelled. And these attitudes may be thoroughly meaningful expressions of the soul’s encounter with a being foreign to its own. The soul feels attracted to a person by whom it expects to be assisted and benefited, and it shrinks back from a person who seems to endanger its own being. And yet in such involuntary reactions there is ample room for grave self-delusions and misjudgments. Outward appearances may hide the true being of a person and thus veil the significance which one person has for the other. Such natural inclinations and aversions are therefore neither to be passed over lightly, not is it reasonable simply to give into them. They can and must be influenced by the will. The free play of the inclinations and aversions are subject to human reason investigating the natural causes and principles of the Universe, whereas sometimes we rest on supernatural revelation and miracles of God. #RandolphHarris 3 of 7
Human reason is fallible and often comes to only probable conclusions. Even when its conclusions seem necessary, if they are contrary to revealed doctrine they are not true. In these cases truth is on the side of revelation and not on the side of reason. For example, the philosophical conclusion that the World is eternal must give way to the revealed truth that the World was created in time. Intermediate in reality are space, time, and causality as organizing forms of collective experience. Tensions develop—not within, but among, entities and processes—when a dynamic equilibrium is disturbed. The tensions are resolved when the equilibrium is restored. Synthesis and harmony as more permanent and productive than opposition and conflict. Our personal growth objectives are to be at peace with our past mistakes and transgressions. We must also stand up for ourselves in our families, stop second-guessing our relevance, and to allow our faith to develop the full potential we can reach as human beings. Upheaval is an opportunity to learn how to come with stressful crises, become more spiritual, and find more meaning in life. When we feel the first stirrings of change in our hearts and minds, it means we have taken stock of our desires and aptitudes and have set some exciting goals for our mortal journey. Surrendering to the process is an aspect of letting go and letting God. Through this process, we get used to the chaos in our minds, as it is a sign and period of personal growth by which we use as our journey through multiple levels of the psyche. Whatever we discover will most likely confuse us and we should expect that, but as revelation happens we will delight in the experience. God will make possible what would be naturally impossible. Love is the motive force of thinking. The fervor of our own love urges us to an ever more rigorous exertion of our intellect. We do not rest satisfied with a solution we have found, but try to penetrate deeper and deeper. And because of this inquiry we start out from the inner life, and assign to love an important part in the work of knowledge. In this thinking we delve deeply into love because of our conviction that love is for us the way that leads to a knowledge of the Holy Trinity. Those who abide in live, abide in God. The Word we have made as a result of the level of thinking we have done thus far creates problems that we cannot solve at the same level at which we created them. Therefore, those who gain a correct knowledge of love will advance to a knowledge of God. Using the rewards of mental mastery—working smarter instead of harder—then we will realize that our job is to guide others toward success, not solve problems for them. Self-conscious of the Absolute Spirit simply wants to equate love and will. One places long desire in the will and thus desire is something in the nature of love, and the desire turns into love when desiring thing, for example knowledge, has been attained. And there no doubt exists a close relationship between love and will. The one who loves feels the urge to fulfill the commandments of God: one desires to confront one’s own will to the will of God. The will grows out of love, and from willing springs action. In fulfilling the divine commandments, however, we gain a deeper knowledge of God, and thereby in turn our love increases. And while love for its part seeks to gain ever deepening knowledge, it is from the very outset not possible to have love without having knowledge. Love comprises in itself knowledge and presupposed a certain kind of knowledge. The spiritual life is an ascending life, and every basic form of spiritual life conditions by its own ascent the ascent of the other forms and is in turn stimulated and further advanced by these other forms. It is precisely the inextricable junction and simultaneous difference of these basic forms of spiritual life that makes them an image of the triune God. The logical principle of noncontradiction loses its validity in this formulation: rational thought must proceed by the highest rational unit, the Idea or the Absolute Spirit, and by use of deduction discover the sense of reality and explain the connection of appearances. #RandolphHarris 6 of 7
Compassion and benevolence is founded on reason alone. For humans this is the best of all possible Worlds, despite the sufferings. However, we keep our faith and hope and pray for a better World because the central insight is that without optimistic reference to a sustaining reality, without the confidence, life would be utterly impossible. None of us could function in daily life without the ability to filter out unwanted stimuli and focus on what is important. Like many skills, however, this skill is usually overdeveloped by the time most of us reach maturity. What is essential to our ability to become productive in society is now so automatic that we miss out on a lot that life has to offer. Now that we know how to screen out the junk, we probably need to go back and reevaluate exactly what it is we want to screen out. When people take risks, we usually see a great improvement in the area involved. And if we take a risk and it does not work out, we can always pray to God to find out why it did not work out. However, many people have actually been trained to ignore success and punish failure, all in the interest of their company. Yet, rewarding, and learning from success is more helpful to everyone in the company than hunting out weakness. When we think about it, we all make a habit of selective noticing. “Now all this has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of humans. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil,” reports Ecclesiastes 12. 12-13. #RandolphHarris 7 of 7

Our Earthly life is most exalted, most sacred, most divine, most religious. However, if the spirit be defiled and corrupted, even a manifestly holy life is not more than gross blasphemy. All hinges on how we keep the spirit, pure or impure. The basis of the dialectic created by jealousy is the gap between action and its realization. One cannot in one’s actions equal what one oneself demands, and so there is in life a permanent dissatisfaction set up by the contrast between action and the realization at which it aims. This impels an individual to further action, and in the effort to close the gap, one needs expansion of action in terms of an ever wider outreach. When self-regarding action passes over into various forms of social action, and these in turn come to their limit in the highest type of moral action—that which aims at the good of all human kind if released and an individual is able to satisfy one’s desires by working hard to earn what they want. However, although this process partially overcomes the contrast between action and its realization, it never does so completely, and the gap reappears at each stage after a goal is accomplished. There is no immanent solution to the problem of action. However, we have seen already that an affirmative solution is demanded, and the demands of action itself point us from the immanent to the transcendent or supraphenomenal (someone or something extraordinary). The heart holds the key which opens either the portal of sensuality or that of spirituality. In fact, these different portals do not exist objectively. The Universe is one and the same for the just as well as for the unjust, but they approach it from various points of view and colour it with their own inner pigment. Some are ignorant and selfish, and they interpret life accordingly. Others are simple-hearted and defilement-free, and thus they read the World. Conventionally, a distinction is made between the two Worlds, supraphenomenal and phenomenal, or sensual and spiritual, or Worldly and saintly; in reality this is our own creation. Let us be free from delusion and things will present themselves in their own true colour and form. If God speaks his word in the soul, one must be at rest and at peace, and then the Lord will be free to bless us with his wisdom. God is immanent within the individual, in the sense that human action is already directed beyond the phenomenal order. To will all that we do is already to have the action of God within us. Yet this quest for realization would be a frustrating one were it not that God in turn moves toward us in his transcendence, and human action is supported and supplemented by divine grace. Since action is concrete, the beliefs that arise out of action and the experience of acting are not abstract formulations. It is in action that we apprehend God, but if we try to imprison him in a proposition or prove his existence by logical demonstration, he escapes us. #RandolphHarris 2 of 9
Thought and action are never rival principles, but are at all times to be taken together. Action is no bind drive, but always includes thought; thought can attain its philosophical goals only as it remains closely associated with action. Thus, when we reconsider the rational proofs of theism, these proofs are possible only on the basis of a prior affirmation of God that has arisen out of our experience as active beings. To say that one speaks by supernatural inspiration, is to say one finds an ardent desire to speak, or some strong opinion of oneself, for the which one can alledge no natural reason; one that believe a thing only because it may be so, may as well doubt of it, because it may be otherwise. Also, do not always let facts blind one to the truth. Facts can overshadow the truth. The facts we receive regarding gender may not always represent God’s truth regarding men and women. Though a billion dollar industry works to persuade us otherwise, the truth is, the sex is not the highest good in life. The truth is God’s purposes for human beings far exceeds narrow gender stereotypes. Men and women who are born of the Spirit are not limited by human gender-constructs. For this reason, many religious women have, throughout history, fanned into flame God’s gifts within them, much like how Aaliyah was denied a record deal on Star Search, but rose above the limitations placed on the female gender and became a successful sing, actress, model, and business woman. #RandolphHarris 3 of 9
Embracing God’s truth regarding their value and worth, many women of faith are not bound by gender roles. Rather, as God equipped, impassioned, and enabled their service, these strong-hearted daughters of God have pioneered many gospel inroads around the World. As we reflect their lives, let us consider the outcome of their way of life and honor their faith. How often do you take time to simply reflect upon God? If we reflect that the Spirit of God is the only fountain of truth, we will be careful, as we would avoid offering insult to him, not to reject or condemn truth wherever it appears. The Scripture is our sole source of normative, infallible apostolic revelation and all things necessary for salvation and concerning faith and life are taught in the Bible with enough clarity that the ordinary believer can find them there and understand. God is the truth in its absolute fullness. He, therefore, is the primary, the original truth in all truth. The Lord is the architect of truth and the origin of the knowledge of truth in all areas of life. True perception is not a boring task, for while we practice we discover an entirely new World. It can be quit exciting. We can state with small things. True perception embraces the situation, face it with meaning, and welcomes it as an opportunity to choose a greater reality. God is a God who reveals. God himself is true and cannot lie. Therefore, all that he reveals, whether through general revelation in his creation or through special revelation is Scripture is necessarily true. #RandolphHarris 4 of 9
God is the God who creates. He is the Maker of Heaven and Earth and all that is within them. This fact is closely related to the first, because God reveals certain things about himself through creation. In order for us to correctly see that revelation about God in his creation, we have to accurately grasp the nature of what the Lord has created. If we misread what is actually there, we will misrepresent God. It is also worth observing that God’s creation is real and not an illusion, and God created human beings with the ability to learn about and have true knowledge of what the Lord has created. This ability was impacted by the Fall, but it was not completely destroyed. Scripture regularly assumes that people have the ability to learn about creation. Humans are expected to draw true conclusions about God and reality based on our observations of creation. There are in Scripture stories that do exceed the Fables of Poets. Such as the conversation between Eve and the Serpent, and his questions as to how out of only one rib a woman’s whole body could be built, and what language Adam spoke in the first hour of his nativity in naming the animals. As we have learned created things are what they are because God willed them to be a certain way rather than another. When we learn something about creation that corresponds with what God actually made, we have learned something true. God is the source of these truths by virtue of the fact that he is the Creator. #RandolphHarris 5 of 9
The serpent has a sweet and persuasive song about love, and it took over Eve’s mind. He got deep in her heart by touching her emotions and took control of her. He made her change as he became part of her. He told her they could get married and have two kids and she could still be a good woman. Eve quickly gave the serpent her heart and soul, she said it meant nothing to her. The serpent’s love pulled Eve deep into a spell. It spent her mind around like a carousel. She did not know where it was coming from, she never knew she could love him so much, and things just happened. True love took hold of her. Time stood still. The serpent would appear at the worst and even the best of times. Her heart was no longer her own, she could not control her emotions and passions. No longer a faithful girl with a good heart and good intentions—she never wanted to leave her house, but there were no preventions because she was deep in his hypnotic spell. Once, Eve had the purest heart and the finest attitude, but the serpents love had taken over her. When she went home, she could not understand how Adam looked the same as the picture by their bed. The suspense was pounding and clouding up her head. His body was exactly the same, he slept in the same place, but she did not know who he was. Then she realized that there had been a stranger in her house. It took her a while to figure it out. #RandolphHarris 6 of 9
However, she knew Adam was someone else because of the way he touched her, and the way he treated her was not as passionate as the shape shifting serpent. The serpent used to adore her, but Adam ignored her. She demanded, “Show me who you are! I do not see your shadow around when you walk. You are leaving no kisses. Goodbye with no words. If these walks could talk, they would have nothing to tell. So what could it be? Is there someone imitating me? Could she be taking my place. Adam, look me in the face and tell me that I am wrong when I say there is a stranger in my house.” The serpent adored Eve. And she asked Adam where they first kissed. He did not know. He did not know her and did not initially taste the forbidden fruit, until Even told him how much she loved it. However, after Eve convinced Adam to have the forbidden fruit, he had changed so drastically that she was convinced the he was not who he said he was. “Adam, you have to be someone else,” Eve said. However, she did not realize she has been tricked by the serpent. She has become like a bird without a song as her lonely tears fell. Then God cursed the Serpent, the Woman, and the Man, and expelled the Man and Woman from the garden and thereby from eternal life. God is the one who has decreed whatsoever comes to pass, and this is the basis of historical truths. When we learn something about history that is in accordance with what actually happened, it will spin our head around like a carousel because God decreed it. #RandolphHarris 7 of 9
As used in the scriptures, to atone is to suffer the penalty for sins, thereby removing the effects of sin from the repentant sinner and allowing him or her to be reconciled to God. The Savior was the only one capable of carrying out the Atonement for all humankind. Because of the Savior’s Atonement, all people will be resurrected, and those who obey the gospel will receive the gift of eternal life with God. As descendants of Adam and Eve, all people inherit the effects of the Fall. In our fallen state, we are subject to opposition and temptation. When we give in to temptation, we are alienated from God, and if we continue in sin, we experience spiritual death, being separated from the Lord’s presence. As far as we know, we are all subject to a temporal death, at this time, which is the death of the physical body. The only way for us to be saved is for someone else to rescue us. We need someone who can satisfy the demands of justice—standing in our place to assume the burden of the Fall and to pay the price for our sins. The Savior has always been the only one capable of making such a sacrifice. From before the Creation of the Earth, the Savior has been our only hope for peace in this World, and eternal life in the World to come. #RandolphHarris 8 of 9
Some people, like the hedonistic leaders and the savage fake news media, might try to conceal their sins by torturing and blaming someone else for them, thinking they can force someone to atone for their sins, and the can be saved. However, that is not true and it may damn them to hell for all of eternity. “To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto Me? I am full of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks or of lambs or of he-goats (offered without repentance),” reports Isaiah 1.11. The Savior already redeemed all people from the effects of the Fall. All people who have ever lived on the Earth and who ever will live on the Earth will be resurrected and brought back into the presence of God to be judged. And although we are redeemed unconditionally from the universal effects of the Fall, we are accountable for our own sins. However, if we repent and stop sinning, we can be forgiven and cleansed from the stain of sin at our doors. The souls is corporeal and is the form of the body. It is separable from the body both in life and at death. It possesses unity, and its function is to vivify the extended matter of the body. Created spirits are responsible for only a small part of the movement in the World, and therefore God, the infinite spirit, must be its prime source. And so natural philosophy either presupposed the knowledge of God or borrows it from superior science. Matter was created by God. Eternal Ideas are assimilated with God’s mind or the divine providence; but although they are immanent in the mind of God, they are also a created effect. They are eternal, but not coeternal with God. Only three persons of the Trinity are both coequal and coeternal. Ideas subsist in the mind of God and the copies of these Ideas are concreted with matter. God is transcendent. “If you shall say there is no law, you shall also say there is no sin. If you shall say there is no sin, you shall also say there is no righteousness. And if there is no righteousness nor happiness there be no punishment nor misery. And if these things are not, there is no God. And if there is no God we are not, neither the Earth; for there could have been no creation of things, neither to act nor to be acted upon; wherefore, all things must have vanished away,” reports 2 Nephi 2.12-13. As we humble ourselves, we turn to God with humility and love, and our will, with divine help, can reach perfect accord with the divine will. The divine Word can then teach us (infused knowledge) and move us (infused love) in an intimate union sometimes momentarily experienced as ecstasy. Emotion always precedes wisdom, for it affords experience, without which, thought would not mature into truth. Hence the necessity to embrace one’s emotions in preference to suppressing them. For a human being to adapt to a rapidly-changing World, one needs the companionship and support of other with whom one may sometimes disagree, but nevertheless feel a fundamental bond of like-mindedness. “And now, my people, I speak unto you these things for your profit and learning; for there is a Go, and he hath created all things, both the Heavens and the Earth, and all thing things that in them are, both things to act and things to be acted upon. And to being about his eternal purposes,” reports 2 Nephi 2.14-15. We have been born in an important age of kaleidoscopic experiments, adventures and clashes, not only between the virtues and vices, as formerly, but rather between virtues themselves. The old virtues have begun to lose their authority; they are no longer able to fulfill the religious, moral, intellectual and social demands of the contemporary soul. The human soul seems to have grown immensely; it cannot fit any longer with the former confines. #RandolphHarris 2 of 6
By allowing ourselves to embrace all our emotions, which we reject or suppress, therefore judge, we free ourselves from their weight—we become lighter. We become enlightened. Each time we to this, and remain faithful unto God’s words, we choose eternal life, according to the will of God’s Holy Spirit. “And not choose eternal death, according to the will of the flesh and the evil which is therein, which giveth the spirit of the adversary power to captivate, to bring us down to hell, that he or she may reign over us in his or her own kingdom,” reports 2 Nephi 2.29. We can learn a lot from the water. It does not fear or hate the rock, it does not resist it either. In this sense the act of embracing should be understood. To embrace then is to love whatever we face back into life. We have the right to be however we wish—it is our choice. However, we certainly have the same right to be here on Earth and honor God. Scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high. We feel the power of your prayers. We need them, and we thank you for them. Our Father in Heaven understood that for us to make desired progress during our mortal probation, we would need to face difficult challenges. Some of these would be almost overpowering. #RandolphHarris 3 of 6
God provided us the tools to help us be successful in our mortal probation. Throughout the ages, Father in Heaven has inspired select men and women to find, through the Holy Ghost, solutions to life’s most perplexing problems. He has inspired his children to have faith in his plan of happiness. Because scriptures are generated from inspired communication through the Holy Ghost they are pure truth. We need not be concerned about the validity of concepts contained in the standard works since the Holy Ghost has been the instrument which has motivated and inspired those individuals who have recorded the scriptures. They can become the key to open the channel of communion with our Father in Heaven. when they are cited correctly, the scriptures provide the strength of authority to our declarations. Their use provides a foundation of truth that can be awakened by the Holy Ghost. Learning, pondering, searching, and memorizing scriptures is like filling a filing cabinet with friends, values, and truths that can be called upon anytime, anywhere in the World. “For the Lord God hath said that: Inasmuch as we shall keep his commandments, we shall prosper in the land; and as must as we will not keep his commandments we shall be cut off from his presence,” reports 2 Nephi 4.4. Great power can come from memorizing the scriptures. To memorize a scripture is to forge a new friendship. #RandolphHarris 4 of 6
The soul has three powers: the intellect, the will, the heart. elf-mastery is the ultimate test of our character, and it is essential to invoke the power of God. This is because this great, divine agency can only be exercised in righteousness. Self-mastery requires self-determination and strength of character. It enhances our own gifts and talents in a remarkable way. It is the power of a noble humanity. Every human soul has the challenge of controlling his or her thoughts, appetites, speech, temper, and desires. Our Father in Heaven knows all of these latter-day dangers, these troubles of the heart and the soul, and has given counsel and protections regarding them. The Lord is moving with power in his church for us to obtain the education he wants us to have. To help people become saved, we need to declare truths in solemnity of heart, in the spirit of meekness. When we do so, the Holy Ghost will be shed forth. Through the development of the late power in the soul, more and more works of wonder are happening. Among them there are some which are very supernatural and miraculous. “We did observe to keep the judgments, and the statues, and the commandments of the Lord in all things. And the Lord was with us; and we did prosper exceedingly; for we did sow seed, and we did reap again in abundance,” reports 2 Nephi 5.10-11. If we move forward in faith, our seeds of greatness will take root. #RandolphHarris 5 of 6
By having faith in God, we can go beyond our barriers and become everything God created us to be, and we will have everything the Lord intended for us to have. “Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,” reports Matthew 22.37. Acrid bitterness inevitably seeps into the lives of people who harbor grudges and suppress anger, and bitterness is always a poison. It keeps the pain alive instead of letting one deal with it and get beyond it. Bitterness sentences one to relive the hurt over and over. With the power of the soul anything is possible. Happiness is a choice and an energy we can cultivate on a daily basis. We have to do our best to live in high vibration energy like love, peace, fun and joy—for our own well-being and fulfillment. Although we do not have control over everything we do in life, we still can make choices that are loving and kind. It is important to feel good about our choices, and to make them with the right energy, heart, joy and permission. As we do this, we will practice gratitude, which is incredibly power. By expressing gratitude, we are thankful for what we have and will attract more great things in the future. Our attitudes are supposed to revere life. We are to have love and reverence for the beings, and treat them as beings and not as commodities. Human spirits can hear their silent cry, and the soul is awakening the soul, which has the deepest love for its nourisher, the Earth. Healing is purification. By purifying ourselves, purification of our environment and of the ecology of Earth inevitably follows suit. If only we knew what absolutely stunning healing power we have as single individuals, we would not hesitate one second in wanting to change our ways from fear to love, from absurdity to sanity, not to mention the sense of purpose which such choice brings with it in its trail. Humanity is aching and the Earth is crying out in pain. Both need us and our cooperation. Both are craving for our live. Please, believe that we can make a difference by healing the attitude which generates hate, anger, greed, jealousy and narcissism. The will to heal has to come from within humanity itself—only then can we expect to be assisted in our efforts. By blaming our fellow living beings for things that have happened in the past, we do not heal. We do know that some of our behavior is caused by factors that are part of our physical existence. Physiological psychologists have greatly influenced today’s theories of motivation. Chief among their contributions is an idea often called Drive Reduction Theory. This is not the only way to look at what makes people behave as they do, but it does answer many questions. According to this theory, all motivation begins with a need that must be satisfied. In its simplest form, a need is a lack, a depletion, something missing. (When I have not eaten, the cells of my body experience a need for nourishment to energize them or to provide building blocks for repair or replacement.) A signal is relayed along the nervous system and bloodstream to the brain, and we experience a tension-force called a drive. This activates the entire body and changes the person’s consciousness. In the same sense, each soul is given the chance to choose between war or peace, competition or cooperation, healing or attack, fear or love. Much like the with central nervous system in the body when it experiences a need for nourishment, with each choice for cooperation and love the collective frequency of the Global Thoughtform is pulsating at a faster rate and therefore aligning with the Universal intent. To lose heart by wondering how the World could possible ever rise beyond the Global Thoughtform, and awaken to the truth, would indicate another doubt we place on life. “Behold, I speak with boldness, having authority from God; and I fear not what people can do; for perfect love casts out all fear,” reports Moroni 8.16. #RandolphHarris 2 of 7
Belief in God allows the miracle in. True perception is the condition for the miracle. “For we know that God is not a partial God, neither a changeable being; but he is unchangeable from all eternity to all eternity,” reports Moroni 8.18. True perception is infinitely more powerful than a mind still in illusions. With each awakening soul an impetus of such power is added to the momentum of the awakening of the whole of humankind, that its effects literally ripple to the farthest corners of the Universe. Reconciliation is the Law of Compensation. Each movement or action of life reconciles with its opposite reflection. The result of this is True perception, a consciousness which knows nothing of conflict, for here energies are unified and can flow harmoniously again. Where energies can flow unencumbered, fixation does not exist. A fixation is an abnormal attachment to some person, object, or level of development. Once a normal person’s needs are satisfied on a regular basis, one will become bored, no longer interested in staying at that level. There is a growth force in each of us that pushes us to reach for higher levels of motivation. “When people speak by power of the Holy Ghost, power of the Holy Ghost carries it unto hearts,” reports 2 Nephi 33.1. Faith is an inner conviction of being overwhelmed by God. He brought light out of darkness, not out of a lesser light, and God can bring our Summer out of Winter, though we have no Spring. Though in the ways of fortune, understanding, or conscience we have been benighted until now, wintered and frozen, clouded and eclipsed, damped and benumbed, smothered and dazed, now God comes to us, not as the dawning of the day, not as the bud of the Spring, but as the Sun at noon. “In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him,” reports Proverbs 21.1. In our concern with the creations of the mind, we must not forget mind’s creative forgetfulness. For both inattention and forgetting often serve a most valuable function, allowing us to focus on what we feel is important to us without cluttering up our minds with the irrelevant. The entire material plane is one gigantic mirror reflecting our consciousness. We seek happiness in conditions, oblivious to the fact that such a condition is only the result—the manifestation—the reflection of a happy mind. Happiness cannot possibly be found on the level of effects, but a happy mind shall always manifest its own on the outer. If we stood before a mirror making a grimace and felt displeasure at the face looking at us, the intelligent thing to do would be to smile at the face and we would receive a smile in return. #RandolphHarris 4 of 7
To cut through illusions, we have to get disillusioned—the more thoroughly the better—so long as we do so at a pace that allows for proper digestion of the shifts we are making. Disillusionment is commonly taken to mean a kind of disappointment, a sense of being let down, but the very structure of the word speaks of something much more fundamental: being freed from illusion. This, of course, might sometimes feel far from pleasant, hence the darker connotations of disillusionment. A crucial challenge is to stop treating disillusionment as a problem or something negative, and use it as an awakening force. To be disillusioned is to see through illusion, in conjunction with releasing its hold on us. We thus become disenchanted, no longer spellbound by our conditioning. And far more able to skillfully approach our edge. As such, disillusionment is a kind of sobriety, a catalyst for waking up, a great opportunity. “Behold, he changed their hearts; he awakened them out of a deep sleep, and they awoke unto God. Behold, they were in the midst of darkness; nevertheless, their souls were illuminated by the light of the everlasting word,” reports Alma 5.7. When we believe, God will see to it that it is taken care of. When we believe, we have the Creator of the Universe fighting our battles, arranging things in our favor, going before us, moving the wrong people out of the way. #RandolphHarris 5 of 7
The surpassing greatness of God’s power is at work in our lives. Now some of our ideas, namely, ideas of imagination, we ourselves produce, but others, the ideas of sense, come to us without our willing them. There is therefore some other will or spirit that produces them. That is God ay be concluded from the regular order in which these ideas come to us. The knowledge we have of God is analogous to the know we have of other people. Since people are active spirits, we do not have ideas of them, but only of their expressions, words, and bodily movements. Though these we recognize them as possessors of minds and wills like those we know ourselves to have. Similarly, God reveals himself to us in the order of nature: every thing we see, hear, feel, or in any wise perceive by sense, being a sign or effect of the Power of God. There are active spirits on the one hand and passive ideas on the other. The latter could not exist apart from the former, but the ideas in the minds of human beings are caused in them by God and sustained by the lord when they are not perceiving them. However, God is impassible—not subjected to feeling or emotion; hence he cannot be supposed to perceive ideas of this nation. If God exists and I believe and act accordingly, I can inherit eternal life. Revelation is communication from God to humans. It can occur in many different ways. Some prophets, like Moses, have talked to God in person. Some persons have had personal communications with angels. Search your own experience. We have already received revelations, and we can receive more revelations because communication from God to people is a reality. The grand privilege of everyone who has faith in God is the manifestation of the spirit every day in our lives. God’s grace is as real as the air we breathe. It surrounds us always, but few of us consistently take notice of its presence. However, when we learn how to see it and experience if for ourselves, our inner life can go from a subdued grey to one of vibrant colour. Grace has an enabling power. And it has to everything to with us. It is evidence of divine love and is founded in the love of two beings who want more than anything for us to succeed. It is a power that helps us accomplish what we cannot do on our own and one that helps us overcome our personal weaknesses. “My grace is sufficient for all people that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them,” reports Ether 12.27. Any statement of fact is true or false in virtue of some existing state of affairs in the World. In many cases the truth-value of a statement is determined by appealing to the truth-values of certain other statements, but this process must terminate somewhere if the truth-value of any statement of fact is to be assessed at all. An epistemological view according to which the process of verification or falsification terminates with statements of a logically distinct kind is a view to the effect that there is a distinct class of basic statement: The principal questions that have been considered are: Is there such a class of statement? If there is, what is the relation between these statements and certain nonverbal occurrences called experiences? Are basic statements descriptions of the private experiences of the speaker or of publicly observable events? Are these statements either incorrigible (that is, of such a character that they cannot be false, or cannot be shown to be false) or indubitable (that is, such that they cannot rationally be doubted? These questions have been much discussed by modern empiricists, especially in connection with the verifiability criterion of meaning. A fact is a statement that can be proven true. Truth is perhaps the most important name of God, in fact, it is more correct to say that Truth is God than to say God is truth. And where there is Truth, there is also knowledge which is true. It is not supposable that human reason can understand all that God may see fit to reveal; yet faith may receive as fact what cannot analyze and understand. A clear, intelligible statement of God may be above and beyond the grasp of our reason in all its relations, and yet faith apprehend and admit it, as a single truth. Faith supplements reason, as the telescope does the unassisted eyes, and resolves and makes evident what was nebulous. Only what is palpably contrary to the reason rejected. As a statement above the reason, but from a credible source, it must be passed up to faith for a reception. To reject a statement of revelation as contrary to reason, one must first compass, surround and take it in, as one must know all the shore to declare the land an island. To reject the doctrine of logarithms or the asymptote one must understand the higher mathematics, but a child may believe the father’s statement of them. So God may give us definitions, propositions and declarations of truth, as serviceable as they are incomprehensible, and faith be strong where reason staggers, in their reception. Humility and faith should come to our relief in such cases, specially if the communication is from God or concerning him. It should not trouble us to admit that the nature of God, the mode of his existence and manifestation, and the process of his providence in human affairs, and sometimes beyond our comprehension; while a simple declaration of fact concerning these things may be intelligible to reason and acceptable to faith. If we discriminate properly between facts and modes, what is and how it is, and concede that God may reveal the one and not the other, we shall find ample and harmonious scope for both reason and faith. A belief that God knows more than humans, and can declare facts without explaining them, and then a belief in the facts divinely given, without a rationalistic analysis of their modes, has the double blessedness of a human contentment and the divine approbation. We have extended these preliminary remarks for the relief of some who have difficulty in receiving separate truths from God, or truths that they cannot fully understand, or that do not at first seem to harmonize with other truths as clearly revealed. #RandolphHarris 3 of 6
A better understanding of the nature and claims of a revelation from God would prepare the way for a better reception of it, specially its isolated truths and mysterious declarations. Whether truth emerges from a scientific laboratory or through revelation, all truth emanates from God. All truth is part of the gospel. In all professional endeavors, rigorous standards of accuracy are required. Scholars cherish their freedom of expression. However, full freedom cannot be experienced if part of one’s knowledge is ruled out-of-bounds by edicts of humans. Spiritual truth cannot be ignored—especially divine commandments. Keeping divine commandments brings blessings, every time! Breaking divine commandments brings a loss of blessings, every time! The acts of a person are ascribed to the Spirit. The Spirit makes intercession for us, confers gifts, as wisdom, knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, of miracles and of tongues. The Spirit regenerated and sanctifies. These are the acts of an agent, a person. They are acts inseparable from personality. Problems abound in this World because it is populated by imperfect people. Their objectives and desires are heavily influenced by their faith or lack of it. Many put other priorities ahead of God. As in every age, so today there are those who mock or decry the free exercise of religion. Some even blame religion for a number of the World’s issues. Admittedly, there have been times when atrocities have been committed in the name of religion. However, living the Lord’s pure religion, which means striving to become a true disciple of the Savior, is a way of life and a daily commitment that will provide divine guidance. As we practice our religion, we are exercising faith, we are letting our faith show. The Lord knew men, women, and his children would need to learn how to find God. The scriptures provide one of the best ways to find our course and stay on it. Scriptural knowledge also provides precious protection. For example, throughout history, infections like childbirth fever claimed the lives of many innocent mothers and babies. Yet the Old Testament had the correct principles for the handling of infected patients, written more than 3,000 years ago! Many people perished because human’s quest for knowledge had failed to heed the word of the Lord! We gain great knowledge from the scriptures and obtain inspiration through prayers. Especially when the laws of humans are created and enforced, God’s laws must ever be our standards. In dealing with controversial issues, we should first search for God’s guidance. The Holy Ghost is a divine, influencing power, divine emanations of influences and energies. Right now God is breathing on our dream. He is going to multiply what we have. God will multiply our talent, resources, and creativity. This is not the time to shrink back in fear. This is the time to move forward in faith. We should get up every morning knowing we are anointed. We are equipped and empowered. We have everything we need to fulfill our destiny. The temptation to be popular may prioritize public opinion above the word of God. Political campaigns and marketing strategies widely employ public opinion polls to shape their plans. Result of those polls are informative. However, they can hardly be used as ground to justify disobedience to God’s commandments! Evil, error, and darkness will never be truth, even if popular. Ancient questions again come to surface as of last night, 30 July 2018, when the planets of Mars and Saturn were in opposition, and visible from Earth with the unassisted eye. In astronomical terms, opposition refers to when a planet is on the opposite side of the Earth relative to the Sun. This not only means that these planets were closer to the Earth in their respective orbit, but that were also lit by the Sun, which mane them much more visible. This was the closets these planets have gotten to Earth since 2003, and the next time they will be so visible is 2035. And of course it left people wondering if our Earth is the only World in all of space that has intelligent inhabitants, especially since water was found on Mars. Mars was once a warmer, watery place, but between 4.2 and 3.5 billion years ago, this began to change as Mars magnetic field disappeared. As a result, the atmosphere slowly began to be stripped away by solar wind, leaving the surface the cold and dry and making it nearly impossible for water to exist in liquid form. There is a crater, on the cold red planet, that had a large freshwater lake 3.5 billion years ago. And there is a thick layer of ice underground, and it has been confirmed that liquid water still exists beneath Mars’ southern polar region. The liquid water underlies like the glaciers here on Earth. However, the water on Mars is contains 99 percent of salt particle called perchlorates. Perchlorates are poisonous to humans and is the only reason all of the water on Mars is not frozen. #RandolphHarris 1 of 15
Once, Saturn had stood in the sky, ablaze like a Sun, during an earlier period on Earth around the second or third millennium BC. This was before about 3,000 BC when Saturn was over the North Pole of Earth as an immense globe, connected to Earth with a stream of dust water, with Mars in an intermediate position. The period of this polar apparition was usually remembered throughout the World as the Era of the Gods. During this time, Saturn ruled and human lived in paradise with the God. The closing of that time was mourned throughout the World and has shaped us ever since. The ending of the Era of the God, in 3147 BC, brought on an explosive rise in civilization: intensive agricultural practice (simultaneously in five or more unrelated regions), monumental constructions, cities, writing, kingships, and wars of conquest. The Era of the God permanently set our languages, architecture, and political systems, and even our ferocious antipathy toward our own species. More importantly, humans developed a subjective consciousness some time after the close of the Era of that Gods. The acquisition of subjective consciousness was not a certain process nor universal. We all have to struggle for things that are important to us. With Saturn and Mars being so close to the Earth, some believe it is a reunification of the Era of the Gods, and that our struggles are now aligned. It is also supposed to represent the fact that there are many battles in life, and not all of them are worth fighting. #RandolphHarris 2 of 15
The realignment of Saturn and Mars acts as a sort of chlorophyll that draws from the Sunlight of the spiritual being, elements essential to the healthy growth of the human race; and if the Western humanity is to be saved from becoming a day sapless log, it must perennially renew that foliage which brings it into contact with the ambient upper air, warmed by the glow of righteousness and love. Saturn and Mars bring us the opportunity to know the difference of what is right and wrong and what is important or not, and it gives us the opportunity to know the difference and to prioritize our struggles and bathe. We can stand up for justice an what we know is right. If there is a force that confront us now that is stronger than our abilities, it is suggested that we pull back—but only to gain the strength to resume our battle at another time. This is our opportunity to get the training that we need in order to be more potent warriors, but we must first make sure the fight is worth the effort. Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex. However, it takes a touch of genius—and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction. A wise retreat is not a defeat. So maybe President Trump is right. If the planets are symbolizing a return of the Era of Gods, then we should be do for much prosperity. Planets that are inhabited by intelligent beings can exist—we live on one. And as we think of all the galaxies, it is utterly unthinkable that among the uncountable billions upon billions of stars and galaxies throughout space, intelligent beings exist on only one World in this whole vast Universe. If only one star in a million should have inhabitable planets, that would still leave over 100,000 such systems in our own galaxy alone! And galaxies like ours exist by the billions. However, whether planets with conditions satisfactory for human life are a dime a dozen or extremely rare, since cannot tell us right now. Other stars are too far away, and our means of learning about them too meager. Even if the nearest star had such planets, we could not hope to see them with the best conceivable instruments, much less tell if they were inhabited—unless the inhabitants should just happen to be sending extremely powerful radio messages our way. The United States government has actually turned its radio telescopes upon a couple of nearby stars that appear to be likely prospect to see if such messages were forthcoming. They were not at that time. How, then, can we ever hope to know about people on other Worlds? Considering the place of the conditions of the World upon which the Lord has placed us, and the current limitations upon our scientific abilities, it seems that there is only one answer. We have no other source of knowledge than that which the Lord himself feels it is important to give us, at this time, in our Earthly condition. #RandolphHarris 4 of 15
Latter-day Saints believe that there is existence of people on other Worlds and that these people visit the Earth. Accordingly, they claim that that Earth has been receiving visitors from outer space for years, and these visitors have been leaving highly intelligent messages for our benefits. When we put this all in perspective, it becomes very exciting: intelligent beings from a higher culture have visited Earth frequently. “There never was a time when there were not Gods and Worlds and men and women and children were not passing through the same ordeals that we are now passing though. That course has been from all eternity, and it is and will be to all eternity,” reports Brigham Young. Long before our God began his creations, he dwelt on a mortal World like ours, one of the creations that his Father had created for him and his brethren. He, with many of his brethren were obedient to the principles of the eternal gospel. One among these, it is presumed was a savior for them, and through him they obtained a resurrection and an exaltation on an eternal, celestial World. Then they gained the power and godhood of their Father and were made heirs of all that he had, continuing his works and creating World of their own for their own posterity—the same as their Father had done before, and his Father, and his Father, and on and on. Nothing is more basic in the restored gospel than these truths that, because of recent events of space travel, are so timely. The great hope of the gospel for us is that we may come to a oneness with our Lord and our Father and partake of this same work and glory and godhood. Being joint-heirs and heiresses of all that the Father has, we may then look forward to using those powers to organize still other Worlds from the unorganized matter that exists throughout boundless space. Creating other World, peopling them with our own eternal posterity, providing a savior for them, and making known to them the saving principles of the eternal gospel, that they may have the same experience we are now having and be exalted with us in their turn—this is eternal life. No wonder this possibility continues to fascinate and inspire Saints of all ages. This hope is what inspires members of the church to seek eternal marriage and to seek in all things to be one with our Lord, because we want to be with him and participate in all the marvelous things of which the Saint Paul the apostle said: “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of human, the things which God has prepared for the that love him.” I would probably create a World with clear water, tons of mansions, pine forest and cars that I designed and people who did good things and were all nice. #RandolphHarris 6 of 15
Another basic truth is that all of the Worlds out there are not the same. Some are celestial. Some are terrestrial. Some are telestial. Some, such as ours, are in a phase of temporal existence, which is probably why we cannot physically see intelligent life. And there are other phases, probably some we do not even know of. The Lord has said that there is no space in which there is a greater or a lesser kingdom. All kingdoms have a law given. All kingdoms are not given the same laws, but unto every law there are certain bounds. There is a period called the Millennium coming and it will be a thousand years of peace, love, and joy will begin on the Earth at the Second Coming of our Savior. Because of the destruction of the wicked at the Savior’s Second Coming, only righteous people will live on the Earth at the beginning of the Millennium. They will be those who have lived virtuous and honest lives. These people will inherit either the terrestrial or celestial kingdom. Mortals will still live on Earth, and they will continue to have children as we do now. Immortal beings will frequently visit the Earth. These resurrected beings will help with the government and other work. People will still have their agency, and for a time many will be free to continue with their religion and ideas. Resurrected beings will help us correct the mistakes we have made in doing research concerning our dead ancestors. “The Earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory,” reports Articles of Faith 1.10. #RandolphHarris 7 of 15
During this Millennium, the adversary will be bound. This means he will not have power to tempt those who are living at that time. The children shall grow up without sin unto salvation. Because of the righteousness of the Lord’s people, the adversary has no power; wherefore, he cannot be loosed for the space of many years; for he has no power over the hearts of the people, for they dwell in righteousness, and the Holy One will reign. There will be no war. People will live in peace and harmony together. Things that have been used for war will be turned to useful purposes. No nation shall war with any other nations. The Lord will be king over all the Earth, and all humankind literally under his sovereignty, and every nation under the Heavens will have to acknowledge his supreme authority. It will be the reign of God upon the Earth, and he will enforce his laws, and command that obedience from the nations of the World which is legitimately his right. There will be no death as we know it. Instead, people will be changed from their mortal condition to an immortal condition in the twinkling of an eye. All things will be revealed. Some truths have not been revealed to us. “Reveal all things—things which have passed, and hidden things which no person knew, things of the Earth, by which it was made, and the purpose and end thereof—things most precious, things that are above and things that are beneath, things that are in the Earth, and upon the earth, and in Heaven,” reports Doctrines and Covenants 101.32-34. #RandolphHarris 8 of 15
These letters are a continued series on the Savior’s plan and purpose, in which advances the theory that the Lord founded a kind of Freemasonry to assist him in his purpose to end superstition, and restore reason to its rightful rule, and unite people in a rational faith in God, Providence, and Immortality. There is a message of a great spiritual vitality and a force, directed to the human heart and resting on a threefold base of reason, revelation, and tradition. The principal is based on the wholehearted conviction of God’s existence and unity. There is a necessity for apprehending the wisdom, power, and goodness of God by careful study of the larger World in which we live and the smaller World of our human nature. The duties of the heart are devotion to God, humility in God’s presence, repentance, self-communion, and renunciation. It is the way humans reach the height of religious life, the love of God. The techniques are of reason to subserve the ends of a contemplative view of life as a moral intuition, and the goal is piety. As it stands, we believe first and prove or disprove afterwards. The essence of the human situation is a kind of circle of activity in which we inevitably acquire new nonrational beliefs as a direct consequence of practically and experimentally testing those we start with. The movement from feeling to knowledge in consciousness is linked with the same facts that give human life the character of a passage from belief to self-criticism. We are unconscious of the undifferentiated. A constant impression is to the mind a blank—if temperature were unvarying we would not notice it. We are conscious of the constant only in the midst and variety and difference. The essence of consciousness is thus to be discriminative, and that discrimination involved in the consciousness, the most liable to be misunderstood is that implicit problem of the external World. It is important to prevent theology from becoming an ideology, that is, a creation of the human culture. Christianity is threefold: intellectual, ethical, and soteriological. First, there is the danger of identifying the validity of the concept of revelation, which is God’s self-manifestation and owes nothing to human initiatives. Second, there is the sanger that the church will simply reflect the social and cultural situation, thus losing its power of criticism and its prophetic function. Third, salvation comes from God alone, and the attempt to identify a human Weltanschauung with God’s Word is an instance of the refusal to accept that the only justification is by grace. This secret identification of ourselves with God carries with it our isolation from him. The principle that theological exposition should be basically independent of human speculations (expect insofar as historical and linguistic investigations, etc. are a necessary part of understanding Scripture). #RandolphHarris 11 of 15
Theology must be a rational inquiry that is appropriate to its subject matter, namely God’s gracious self-revelation; and any attempt to establish the truth of the doctrine upon the grounds that are extraneous to its subject matter is both irrelevant and dangerous. Human activity suffers from the defects of human reason. It is therefore necessary to consider the criteria of the worth of a system of dogmatics. These criteria are necessarily derived internally from God’s self-revelation.Theological thinking must be humble: this is a practical test of whether it is refraining from establishing its own claim to truth, i.e., its being in effect an ideology. Also, it must express the doctrine of predestination, which encapsulates the whole of the revelational approach—what people achieve in relation to God is due to God. Because of the element of paradox in the first criterion, at times the Saints are inclined to spea in a syncretistic way. Imagining a conversation in Heaven, one says, “Yes, dear Schleiermacher, I understand you now. You were right, except on some points!” Further, the notion that theology is dialectical, so that statement can be balanced by affirming its apparent contradictory, and it will render the speaker less rigid. Revelation is a natural concept, and thus God does not, so to say, reveal himself independently of the human apprehension of his self-manifestation. Thus, the analogia entis is replaced by the analogia fidei (the analogy of faith); faith gives us understanding of the nature of God and is God-given. Therefore God is the cause of true theological assertions, as well as their ground. With an outline of a theology that is powerfully biblical without being fundamentalists, we escape the charge of being irrational by being understanding and nonjudgmental. In relation to knowledge of God, people are capable of only most shadowy awareness of their own. However, if there is no correspondence between the Gospel and empirical Christianity, the church is a sham; and if there is, then the comparison between empirical Christianity and other faiths is possible, and apologetics unavoidable. The channel through which all knowledge, doctrine, the plan of salvation and every important matter is revealed from Heaven. A righteous person is one who makes and keeps gospel covebabts. These are holy contract, usually between individuals and the Lord. Sometimes they include other persons, such as spouses. They involve most sacred promises and commitment. Also, education should be cosmopolitan, free from any confessional imprint, equal for all classes, and aimed at enabling people to live useful and happy lives as good citizens. Instruction should appeal to the student’s sensibility rather than simply to their understanding and should be encouraged by games and colloquial interaction. Images are more effective than words. This time he played a beautiful melody. The sound was lovely and refreshing. The Dad turned and faced us and said, “Harmony is a group of notes working together. It is the music of a life perfectly adjusted to all ends. It s the result of the rhythmic response of outer life to an inner sense of serenity. The harmony within in will be reflected in the harmony without. It creates a beautiful sound.” We all agreed. He challenged us to make our home a house of harmony—working together, avoiding contention, and creating beautiful music. Think about the role you play in your family. Do you cause contention or harmony in your home? Obey family rules and curfews. Obedience may seem restricting at times, but it can actually build your parents’ trust in you and help your family and your life function more smoothly. Respond with respect. Be polite in conversations with parents and siblings. Even if one feels that one is right, decide to disagree without being disagreeable. Honor your parents through love and obedience. When family members are treated with respect, they will listen more willingly to you. Go the extra mile. Everyone loves to have some unexpected help. You could do the dishes when it is not your turn, volunteer to run an errand, help someone with homework, and do your chores cheerfully. Even simple acts of service can make a big difference. In countless writings the prophets of the Lord have been trying to teach us that throughout time and eternity, the most important organization is the family. “Adam and Eve brought forth family of all Earth,” reports 2 Nephi. Even if school, church, and extracurricular activities keep you busy, make every effort to be home at mealtime. When families eat together, it gives them a chance to converse, laugh, and build relationships. Besides, it is more fun than eating alone! Talk often. Parents and family members want to know what is happening in your life. Make it a habit to tell them about your day. Share your success and sorrows, and listen to theirs. Even though the pressure of having to express softer feelings or having to be vulnerable is far from appealing for most people, open communication develops trust and friendship. Defensiveness may just seem to be a refusal to take responsibility for engaging in something essential to healthy relationships. Therefore, make a conscious decision to be optimistic, and your influence will be far-reaching. Think happy thoughts, and place good music around the house. Help find solutions to family problem and concerns. The family may not sound like a Kenny G song yet, but you can still help create a beautiful melody. Eternal families are made up of individuals. We must do our part to build a happy home. It is essential to establish patterns of righteousness in our lives. And be an example for the believers of God. #RandolphHarris 2 of 7
The Lord is depending on us to assist in the exaltation of our eternal family. God in Heaven organized his church here on the Earth as a means of teaching families how to be eternally happy. We know that none of us can receive the fulfillment of true happiness except as a member of an eternal family unit. We also know, or we should know, that the success we experience in our homes as families is going to have a most significant effect on the eternal happiness of each of us. Happiness in the life hereafter is geared to our learning and living celestial laws while we are here on Earth. This being so, then our great need is to establish in our homes an atmosphere that will encourage the learning and living of the teaching Savior. We must cultivate and make central the qualities that make relationships possible like vulnerability, emotional openness and integrity; and the coexisting and the qualities of relating will allow an internal aliveness no matter where we are. When the body performs all its functions in ease, when the mind thinks clear and straight, when the soul is attuned to God, then only do we find the exquisite harmony of life. The Destroyer knows that he can cause unhappiness in our homes if he can bring about disunity, discontent, disharmony, and a host of other spiritual illnesses. #RandolphHarris 3 of 7
By his insidious process, the Destroyer has gained no small measure of success in his plan to lead astray the children of our Father in Heaven. For instance, he knows that if he can cause parents to quarrel with each other, their children may well follow the example. Sickness is a discord indicating that the instrument of bodily joy is out of tune and harsh. Infirmary will make the whole World a dissonance. Therefore, health—the harmony of the body—must be reestablished, and this possible only through an understanding of the ways of God. The Destroyer knows that his greatest effort to block the work of the Lord must be in the home. Unfortunately, it is here where he enjoys his great success, first by destroying family relationships and then by destroying the family unit. He is using many devious means to accomplish his purpose. Many are the homes that do not recognize his ofttimes silent encroachment into their happiness and security. One of the Destroyers most effective tools is at work among us today—it is a destructive force towards ending all happiness, peace, contentment, family solidarity. Families are stumbling and falling because of its hobbling and crippling effect. This tool of the destroyer is called contention. Contention is to argues, bring discord, strife, dispute, and quarreling. However, do what it takes to step into a different kind of humanity, in which strength and drive beneficially coexist with transparent, vulnerability, and emotional literacy. #RandolphHarris 4 of 7
Think health, and the very idea will penetrate the human system. Command the under-mind to destroy the discords in the physical self, and to sound only the chords of vibrant health and joy. Be a master of the wonderous organ of your being, with its various stops and keys and so play upon the strings that you will evoke the song of songs—the harmony of Joy, Life, Love and Wisdom. A family holds its place only by the realization of ideals. The people who attain moral influence have done so only through lofty ideals, made manifest. “And there shall be no disputations among you, as there have hitherto been; neither shall there be disputations among you concerning the points of my doctrines, as there have hitherto been. For verily, verily I say unto you, one that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the Destroyer, who is the father of contention, and one stirreth up the hearts of people to contend with anger, one with another. Behold, this is not my doctrine, to stir up the hearts of people with anger, one against another; but this is my doctrine, that contention should be done away with,” reports 3 Nephi 11.28-30. We have to teach our children love, truth, and soberness. The home should be the great workshop of the Lord. Here is where children must be taught to walk in ways of light, honesty, fully conscious, sober, and be loving and protective. The ways of the Lord are simple. Simple experience with our people develop unbreakable bonds that will endure forever. It might be something as simple as smiling more in your house. What would you think of speaking more cheerfully? Trying more often to say please and thank you? What would you think of finding an opportunity for one sincere compliment for each family member each day, and then watching them respond. See how you can uplift your entire family. People will learn to be happy and more pleasant. Homes will be cheery. Happiness is best achieved through living an ethical life. A good life is a happy life. Good relations and taking responsibility not only make a happy life possible; they are happiness itself. No one can be happy all the time. However, we can approach happiness with a good family, a good friend, and a good government, good enough possession, and adequate health. Happiness is supposed to be the overall assessment of our life, not the episodic moments. Loving the right things and loving them the right way is the key. Ethical relationships make it more likely than not that we will look back on our lives and will be able to say we have lived a good life. We must find joy in existence, the delight in the privilege for simply being alive. A grateful heart is beginning of greatness. It is an expression of humility. It is the foundation for the development of such virtues as prayer, faith, courage, contentment, happiness, love, and well-being. #RandolphHarris 6 of 7
Love can be defined as an essential element of a person’s experience, which can include affection, attraction, self-sacrifice, and a sense of connection to nature, other living things, other humans, and ultimately to God. A true sense of love is essential in the process of self-identification. Love has many components. We need to connect to others and our surroundings to be able to grow and experience life to its fullest. However, in order to have a feeling of love and connection, we peace. Peace is achieved when an individual’s different elements are in harmony with each other, and when one can master one’s own emotions, thoughts, and behaviors and has found a way of balancing them. It occurs when the person feels and accepts one’s identity and then moves beyond it. The source of love is deep in us and we can help other realize a lot of happiness. One word, one thought, one action can reduce another person’s suffering and bring that person joy. There is something about love that always wins love. When love puts on its golden armor, it helps us live for some purpose in the World. Act your part well. Fill up the measure of your duty to others.
