Just yesterday, after praying to win the ugly Christmas Sweater Challenge, Patrick Crawford was gunned down Wednesday Morning 17 December 2014, in Central Texas, USA. Patrick Crawford is a meteorologist for NBC’s KCEN, and as he was leaving work, as a young man approached him; and what began as trash talk between the two men quickly escalated.

Retribution, swift vengeance, eternal malice were in his whole aspect, and spite of all the mortal man could do, the solid white buttress of his forehead smote the ship’s starboard bow, till men and timers reeled. For little more than the pleasure of revenge and the lust of bloodshed, our hostile clans do the work of executioners on each other.

The suspect produced a semi-automatic hand gun and fired at Patrick Crawford. After being shot twice, once in the arm and once in the torso, Patrick Crawford drop a few moments and was able to get the attention of a construction worker, who summoned emergency services. Patrick Crawford was transferred to Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, and is in the operating room for surgery.

Witnesses report it was like a high-stakes action thriller starring Matt Dillon, they had never seen something like this go down before in this bedroom community. However, employees of the News station are on lock down and told not to leave the building, while the investigation is underway.

Police are investigating the possibility that the gunfire stemmed from a feud between rival gangs in the area, as  Patrick Crawford was shot after having words with a Male, White, in his Mid-30s, gang attire: blue jeans and a black hoody. The shooting has had a chilling effect on a neighborhood unaccustomed to gun battles.

Robert Johnson, age 31, whose house is near the station, remembers the days when disputes were settled by fisticuffs rather than firearms, when gangs were confined to New York or Los Angeles. He says news of the shooting spree shocked him.

The parents these days need to teach kids about respect and honor. I’m upset, because I have children, and they go over there a lot. Growing Up with Loving Parents Means the World to a Child

Happy the son whose faith in his mother remains unchanged, and who, through all his wanderings, has kept some filial token to repay her brave and tender love, as there are few parents who are under obligations to their children, and we all are obliged to our parents’ lives, a sick child is always the mother’s property, her own feelings generally make it so. Your father, of course may spare you, if you mother can. He who sees his heir in his own child, carries his eyes over hopes and possessions lying far beyond his gravestone, viewing his life, even here, as a period but closed with a comma. He who see his heir in another man’s child, sees the full stop at the end of the sentence. The family is a survival of the principle which is more logically embodied in the compound person—and the compound person is a form of life which has been found incompatible with high development. I would do with the family among mankind what nature has done with the compound human and confine it to the lower and less progressive races. Certainly there is no inherent love for the family system on the part of nature herself.

It hath been many an honest man’s hap to pass for the father of children he never begot, which goes to show that men do love children. There could not be a father in the World, who could sell his child’s virtue. Lately, I have been seeing a lot more father’s spending time with their babies, toddlers, children, teens and adult sons and daughters. This brings joy to my heart, as not everyone can have the option to spend time with their dad. In the past, care of the children was seen as a women’s responsibility. However, more and more men want to have active parts in their child’s lives. They want to let their children know they are there for them, more than just financially, they are there to support them mentally, physically and emotionally, which will make the family stronger, as a unit and take some of the pressure off of the mothers. Fathers are far more than just a second adult in the house. Children with involved, caring parents in their lives have better educational outcomes. Not everyone has the luxury of having a dad, so make the best of the mother or other figures in your life. Its times of happiness and joy or in times of trouble, sorrow, fanatics cling to their families like gold.

Currently, we live in a climate where everyone needs to have a lawyer on retainer, to defend us, because people, in high positions like to lie and slander others, and these allegations can lead to arrest and criminal charges. Violent evils require violent remedies. Nothing gives so much strength to an adversary as the view of timidity in his opponent. Many of the emotional attitudes people develop toward foods, political parties, ethnic group, escalators, high rise apartment buildings, and cars is probably not only conditioned by direct experiences, but vicariously as well. Some people are, in fact, born prejudice—some babies do not like puppet shows and lights hanging from the ceiling, I supposed it brings up repressed memories, while parents may love the shows, as it reminds them of good childhood experiences.  Therefore, some attitudes are inherited, and others are learned. Parents may do well to look at their parents if they wonder how or where a child picked up a particular fear or emotional attitude.  If there be rejoicing in Heaven over one sinner that repenteth, should there not also be mercy and forgiveness at least upon Earth?

The memory has as many moods as the temper, and shifts its scenery like a diorama. I was sorry to find more mercy in a heathen than in a brother Christian. In operant conditioning (instrumental learning) one starts to associate responses with their consequences. The basic principle is simple: Acts that are reinforced tend to be repeated. This is known as the law of effect, which tells you that the probability of a response is altered by the effect it has. Learning is strengthened each time a response is followed by a satisfying state of affairs. For example, if you can abuse your intern and ruin their reputation, and then threaten them to do research for you, and they do out of fear, it is likely that you will keep extorting this intern and the threats will increase. Life and death together make sad work for us all.

Strange life mine—rather curious history—not extraordinary, but singular; classical condition tend to be passive. It simply happens to the learner when a US follows a CS. US is a stimulus innately capable of eliciting a response.  For example, with a US, a puff of air will cause you to blink your eye. With a CS a horn blowing may cause you to blink your eye. In operant conditioning, the learner actively operates on the environment. Thus, operant conditioning refers mainly to learning voluntary responses. For example, sending love letters Nicky Hilton, and going to her book signing is a way to get her attention and is a learned operant response. It is reinforced by gaining Nicky’s attention and getting her to autograph your book. Excellent always are the gifts which are made acceptable by the virtue of the giver.

To excel in theory and to excel in practice generally require different talents, which are not always met in the same person. The idea that reward affects learning is certainly nothing new to parents (and other trainers of small people). However, parents, as well as professors, politicians, supervisor, and even you, may use rewards in ways that are inexact or misguided. A case in point is the term reward. To be absolutely correct, it is better to say reinforce, not reward. Due to the fact that rewards do not always increase responding, it is better to call them reinforces. If you are trying to give your intern a brand new book as a reward for good behavior and good work, it will work only if the intern likes the book. Also, keep in mind, what is reinforcing for one person, may not be for another. As a practical rule, psychologist define an operant reinforce as any event that follows a response and increases it probability. However, your ghosts are very rude unsociable folks. It is no shame to use God’s gifts for our credits.

The vermin race are every treacherous, cruel, and cowardly, whilst those endowed with strength and power are generous, brave and gentle.  By desiring what is perfectly good, even when we do not quite know what it is and cannot do what we would, we are part of the divine power against evil—widening the skirts of light and making the struggle with darkness narrower. Now, I know some of you are very offended by the writing because you consider yourself evil, but are a good person, yet I keep associating you with bad, when you may be better than a Christian—more honest and kind, but you may feel akin to Satan. Now, Satan, as your God, may not be a bad person. After all, God has many names. So that I do not offend you, I will call bad people cold and naked.

As we have noticed, learned desires for attention and approval, which are called social reinforces, often influence human behavior. As a journalist or reporter, you job is to be professional, fair, objective and well-informed, like a college professor. You are not the news media to create scandal and ruin lives. However, if you work for a corrupt station, slandering the public might be a way to increase interest and your program, and boost ratings for a while, but after the public discovers what you are really doing, you will lose favor, and possible your career. Scandal is good, but Kerry Washington gets paid to deal with that, she is a professional. Leave it to her; you might get hurt pretending to be Mrs. Kerry. After all, Mrs. Kerry has the money to pay for a lawyer, and move at the drop of a dime. However, if you create chaos, you better believe it will come back to haunt you. Despite false visions concerning you and lying divinations about you, it will be laid on the necks of the wicked who are to be slain, whose day has come, whose time of punishment has reached its climax. I will pour out my wrath upon you like hurricane Katrina, and breathe out my fiery anger against you like the rim fire; I will hand you over to brutal men, men skilled in destruction. You will be fuel for the fire, your blood will be shed in your land, you will be remembered no more; for I, the LORD have spoken.

The person who will bear much shall have much to bear the entire World through. How much nobler it is to forgive, and even how much more manly to despise, then to resent, an injury. To forgive a crime readily is a weakness that will induce one to suspect the virtue of the forgiver. Some police detectives, following the advice of psychologist, recreate crime scenes to help witnesses remember what they saw. Typically, people return to the scene, at the time of the day, the crime occurred. They also asked to wear the same clothing they wore and go through the same motions as they did before the crime. With so many memory cues available, witnesses sometimes remember key items of information they had not recalled before. The police have also asked particular witnesses to say or write down everything they can remember. Do not worry about how trivial any of it seems each bit of information you remember can serve as a cu to bring back others.

Also, try to recall events or information in different orders. Let your memories flow out backward or out of order, or start with whatever impressed you the most. Recall from different viewpoints. Review events by mentally standing in different places. Or try to view information as another person would remember it. When taking a test, for instance, ask yourself what other students or your professor would remember about the topic. Mentally put yourself back in the situation where you learned the information. Try to mentally re-create the learning environment or relive the event. As you do, include sounds, smells, details of weather, nearby objects, other people present, what you said or thought, and how you felt as you learned the information. Great knowledge of the World, or, what is often mistaken for it, an acquaintance with the higher circles and with the topics of the day.

Insult to Injury–the True Story

Everyone lives different lives, and some are more complicated than others. Once in a while, a child is born with a medical condition, sometimes they are obvious, and other times you would not know unless you know the person well that they were different. Being born with a physical limitation is not a laughing matter and some may try very hard to hide it.  I once knew a young man we will call Daniel, he was born with spinal bifida, but from looking at him, no one could tell anything was wrong. In fact, the doctors had no idea anything was wrong with the boy until he started having serious bladder infections, at the age of 5. After years of seeing the doctors, specialist still could not figure out what was wrong with this boy. It caused so much hardship on the family that the parent divorced and the doctors told the mother to take Daniel and move to another city, where he could get the help he needed. So they did.

That is when the doctor’s discovered that Daniel had a medical condition and a tumor growing from the tip of his spine, and it was tethering his spinal cord. The only way they knew he had a tumor because there was a pimple on his back that never went away. So after doing x-rays, it was discovered that the tumor was going to snap Daniel’s spinal cord, if it was not removed right away, and he would never be able to talk. However, one of the problems with the surgery is there was also a huge chance of paralysis.  However, at the age of 8, Daniel knew he wanted to be normal and wanted to take the chance with the surgery. It was a 13 hour procedure, and in the process some of his nerves were damaged, but luckily, he was able to walk.

As Daniel got older, he blended in well with the other kids; he was a little shy and did not play sports out of fear of hurting his back. Daniel has a pretty normal life, as a teenager, and even held a job, while in high school and college. He was actually very loved and popular, which made some dislike him, but that is part of growing up. One day, while on his way to work, Daniel was hit by a big rig, from the rear. He had a lot of back pain, he went to the doctor and it was discovered that the tumor had grown back and his spinal cord was flat as a pancake and about to snap—again. So Daniel had to have his second spinal surgery. However, he almost died this time.

During this second spinal surgery, when Daniel woke up. He noticed blood all over the bed and floor, and it would not stop spilling. They called the nurse into the room, and they were scared. No one knew why the blood was coming out of his penis, and it would not stop. As you know, blood clots, so it was backing up in his bladder and the boy could not pee. So the nurse has to use a catheter and saline solution, hook up to a syringe and push the saline in his bladder and suck out the coagulated blood. The process was painful and took hours, and when they would clear all of the blood out of his bladder, he starting to bleed again. After days of this going on, the Charge Nurse finally tells Daniel, “We are going to have to give you a blood transfusion before you go into shock.” That day a group of Daniel’s friends and family from the bay area came to visit him, and after about an hour, they looked down and saw a pool of blood on the floor. Daniel was not care, he was peaceful. He had made up his mind that he would just bleed to death. They tried to force him to have a blood transfusion, but he would not. He had already lost two pints of blood and they  knew he would probably die, so his sister begged him to have the blood transfusion, and as he looked into her beautiful brown eyes, he could not refuse.

Later that day, the pumped two bags of blood into Daniel, and at this point, he has been in the hospital for 10 days. After the two transfusions, guess what, the pools of blood started spilling onto the floor again, and no one knew where the blood was coming from or what was wrong. Daniels sister lost so much weight because she was scared for her brother’s life and the father had taken so much time off of work to make sure his son lived, he was about to lose his house. So the doctor’s took the boy back to surgery, and it was discovered that he had a “Questionable” urethra tear, which was causing the hemorrhages. Although, the boy lost four pints of blood, but after the last two transfusions, they sent him home and did not give him anymore blood.

After that episode, Daniel was in recovery. He spent a few years at home, then went to college. Had a normal college life, then went to China to study abroad and graduated from junior college. The young man came back to Sacramento, California, enrolled in Sac State and had plans to get is BA, in two years, and move to New York. However, life did not go as planned. Daniel got robbed, his car vandalized and beat up pretty bad. Also because of death threats he hard to drop out of college, but this young man was determined to have a normal life.  He started talking to reporters and admired their work and even tried to help them write, but not before long, this became an abusive situation.

The reporters got jealous and found out personal information about Daniel and started spreading rumors about him being a girl and having a period and they also called him a dog and made up even more vicious rumors. It ripped the family apart and ruined Daniel’s reputation to the point people would choke him while he was driving, try to run him over, or simply mess with him until he had a break down. Daniel still tried to live a normal life. One day he was drinking with the guys and one of them wanted to find out if he was a man or not, pushed him to the floor and pulled his pants down. The young man was so hurt, he just laid there, unable to move.

The next week, Daniel told his sister he was in pain, and he made him go to the doctor, turns out that he fractures his spine in two places. Because of what the young man has been through, it is too hard for him to sit too long, he cannot lift much, and also developed ulcerative colitis, which is an inflammation of the intestines. The young man also had to have a lesion, which the doctors thought was cancer, removed from his blabber, so this young man is in a lot of pain. The surgery also caused more bleeding issues, for weeks on end. People made fun of him online, for about a year (a reporter nonetheless), and none of these reporters has been fired or made to pay for damages about the rumors they are spreading. They have even set the young man up to have him arrested so no one will ever know what the reporters did, but that did not work out. As it stands, people still tease Daniel and try to make life hard on him, but do not know what he is going through.

The young man wanted nothing more than to get a good paying job, take care of himself, and buy a home, but his reputation is so damaged that no one wants to hire him. Not only that, but with the stomach issue, some days he has stomach pains for days on end, along with back pain and headaches, which would make it nearly impossible to have a traditional job and make enough to support himself without getting hurt. As it stands, the reporters have been slandering the young man for over 8 years, but many of them are tired of the young man being hit, teased and abused and have been speaking up. We are not sure what is going to happen, but the corporations these reporters work for know what their employees have done.

My thing is, I want to let you know, just because someone is attractive and doing well, does not mean they are perfect. Also, to find out someone has medical issues and to spread that around is not only a crime, but is very immature. Not only is this young man in pain on the daily, he has to deal with more idiots than most because the reporters put him on blast and made up horrible stories about him, so it is not safe for this young man to be in public for too long. Personally, I could you imagine what it is like to want a normal life and have people physically hurt you and spread rumors about you and you are not even sure what is going to happen in your future as far as finances goes because you are injured? As with many men, his opportunities of observation were not as good as their opportunities of expression. So finally, the young man just gave up his hopes and dreams and is not depressed and not talking to anyone. From a tumor to all of these issues that did not used to exist. All he wanted was a normal life, job, house, and car, and his life is now ruined. So when you see him, be sure to laugh and keep teasing him, I am sure that is helping. Also, imagine how hard it is to even make a friend, let alone get a date, but I am sure the rogue reporters are happy. I bet Daniel now regrets getting the blood transfusions because now he is stuck here, living in pain and with the consequences. (Names were changed to protect the innocent.)

The Renaissance Concept of Honor

I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause division and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.

Do  not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.

We the People of the United States of America, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessing of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The others were harden. God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes so that they could not see, and ears so that they could not hear to this very day. May their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them. May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see and their backs be bent forever. However, may the God of hope fill you all with joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am fully of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.

Love, in general, arises from pleasure which all men naturally take in whatever they judge or perceive to be good and perfect. Every moment of time solicits to be employed in the important business of love. There is a little god called Love, that will not be worshipped of any leaden brains; one that proclaims himself sole king and emperor of piercing eye, and chief sovereign of soft hearts.

First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and flowing their own evil desires.

During Louis XIV’s minority, indeed until the crafty Italian cardinal died in 1661, the government was in the hands of Jules Mazarin, who was a noted collector of art and jewels. It was Louis XIV’s memory of the Fronde which gave birth to the palace of Versailles.  In order to attract his nobles and dominate them, Louis XIV exalted his kingship to a height unequalled by any other European monarch of recent centuries. He was Le Roi Soleil, the Sun around which the whole Universe of French nobility revolved. To raise himself to these heights, he had, first and foremost, his own personality. Contrary to the popular myth, Louis was tall and of splendid physique. He was called handsome, and was regal and mysterious, with dark features, and slightly Oriental looks, and almond shaped eyes. Love cannot exist in a heart that has lost the meek dignity of innocence. Where pity and admiration meet, love is not too far behind.

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind does not occur even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife. And you are proud! Should you not rather have been filled with grief and have to put out of your fellowship the man who did this? Even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. And I have already passed judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.

There were the fetes and the long evenings of music, gambling, and gossip. It is nothing unusual for a ruler to identify himself with his country; but to do so to this extent is something peculiarly French. There are different species of love that go under the same name. There is love that begins in the head, and goes down to the heart, and grows slowly; but it lasts till death, and asks less than it gives. There is another love, that blots out wisdom, that is sweet with the sweetness of life and bitter with the bitterness of death, lasting for an hour; but it is worth having lived a whole life for that hour.

You are looking only on the surface of things. If anyone is confident that one belongs to Christ, one should consider again that we belong to Christ, as Christ belongs to us.

Life it too wonderful to hate in, we are all too nearly bound for hating, the party that loves most is always most willing to acknowledge the greater fault. We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.

Versailles, perhaps the most superb ensemble of buildings, gardens and landscaped parkland in the World, gave the French decorative arts a tremendous boost. The hundreds of rooms in the palace itself could accommodate upward of ten thousand people. Charity and religion can be made to fit every shape. Both God and Nature have designed a very apparent difference in the minds of both genders, as well as in the peculiar beauties of their persons. After dinner, Collin took us around Sacramento to see the town. If you walked in the principle streets of Midtown, it was a real city, with high rises, and city folk. Splendid stone architecture 17 or 18 stories high, some as high as 125 stories, and public halls, theatres, and elegant hotels, like the Citizen, adorned the well paved streets. Love in general, arises from the pleasure which all men naturally take in whatever they judge or perceive to be good and perfect. Every moment of time solicits to be employed in the important business of love. We are more able to direct the choice upon which our love is fixed than we can alter our taste for pineapple, or a nectarine, into an aversion for the glory of nature and the very perfection of people and animals and nature. Horse cars and carriages trotting down the roads, and the town resounded with the sound of money and business. The right of a man to maintenance at the nation’s table depends on the fact that he is a man, and on the account of the that he is of health and strength.

 There were also miles of splendid rich suburbs and country surrounding. Collin and I found pleasant lodgings in a little hotel near the state capitol. About 5am, we got up and leisurely dressed, took breakfast at Zocolo the restaurant, and went down to the site of the New King’s arena construction. Learned also that Mayor Doug Johnson, who was also a prestigious reporter with FOX40, would go with us as far as the Kings River Canon on horseback; returning when we decided to push on, Collin and I then strolled down to the City Hall, and walked about on the cool lawn. Then we braced into the building and summoned up sufficient gall to go through the court room and up to the cupola. From this point was a fine view of Sacramento and the miles of skyscrapers, trees, and houses stretching out in every direction. However, what interested us the most was the vast range of snowy mountains looming up dimply through the haze of the eastern horizon.

 Never has I see the Sierra clad with such immense snow fields, nor such a jagged array of peaks as this region presents. Indeed, after such a winter as last an unparalleled amount of snow covered the range and descended far down into the region of trees. We stayed on the cupola an hour, and then returned to town. A nice quiet middle-class gentleman, found of white pudding and Nantes bacon, appears to be 18 years old, and was corresponding with the school authorities about the family circumstances, his literary career, his friendships and his way of like, and about the rise of the anarchist movement, and the waves of assassination attempts against the King of Italy, the Tsar of Russia, the Presidents of France and the United States of America. John was the young man’s name, and he appeared to be a mid-nineteenth-century bourgeois. He studied law in Paris between 1848 and 1850, a large part of his time being spent in the bars of the Latin Quarter. At the age of 23 he took a job as secretary to the Theatre-Lyruque, after refusing to join his father’s firms and giving up his legal studies.

  Earning his living mainly by his pen, during the period 1850-55 he wrote numerous songs, theatrical sketches, and operettas. As soon as a man awakens his passions, he begins to idealize his skills and there is no limit to the virtues he will be made to carry. Rich translates the attack on the ruling class into a romance setting and presents us with an image of an inverted social order. Now aristocratic myth rarely represents the lower classes, and these are dismissed comically.

 Rubicone was an amazing man, his legs were thicker than longs. Proud, manly, and of great strength, the strong man weighed 600 pounds. His skin was white as snow, and he had the perfect nose. He had white eyes, and the rising sun always found him fasting. He was the one who outlined the logic for this kind of politics when he staged a debate over tyranny. Nam veluti pueri trepidant atque Omnia caecis in tenebris metuunt, sic nos in luce timemus interdum, nilo quae sunt metuenda magis quam quae pueri in tenebris pavitant finguntque future. As children in blank darkness tremble and start at everything, so we in broad daylight are oppressed at times by fears as baseless as those horrors which children imagine coming upon them in the dark. On the way back, Collin and I met our crusty friend the butcher. He brought the astonishing news that Rubicon climbed up the trail for half an hour before the sun rose above the Sierra to the east, enjoying the keen mountain air. The surrounding mountains cannot compare to these, hopefully they do not become granite counter tops in someone’s kitchen, because we love the rugged grandeur which marks the region. Strong minds perceive that justice is the highest of the moral attributes; mercy is only the favorite of weak ones. Love, which softens the heart of the most savage and obdurate tyrant, sometimes tempts the most generous mind to wander from the path that leads to virtue and honor.

We must be humble and respectful. Other religion and virtue have received more real discredit from hypocrites than the wittiest profligates or infidels could ever cast upon them. Holidays are usually synonymous with good cheer, smiles, and a festive atmosphere—but occasionally, decorations can be the cause of friction and ill will as well.  When people of various faiths and traditions all live in the same high-rise building or Home Owner’s Association, one needs to especially take into account the rules, aesthetics, and safety guidelines of the entire community—not just those members who happen to be a part of the dominant culture. When it comes to the policy on holiday decorations, good resident boards and managers usually tread very carefully and are mindful of their associations’ diverse tenants, in common areas, such as lobbies, garages, hallways and balconies.

When people of various religions al live in the same high-rise building or community development, holiday decorating has to please everyone’s customs and traditions. So if any decoration goes on, it needs to be approved by the manager and agreed upon by the tenants, in an effort to keep everyone safe and happy. The decoration needs to address how much religion is allowed when it comes to decoration, what types of ornaments and lights will be allowed, and how much to put in the lobby and even the size of the items. A lot of high-rise buildings have the large glass windows, unobstructed, for your protection.  If something were to happen, and you could not contact the police, they are able to ride by and see that everyone is safe. However, with all the trees, faces on the walls and colors, they cannot see anything, which is putting you in danger. This is Midtown Sacramento, California, and there are criminals in the area. We are also blocks from the State Capitol, so the security of this building is very serious. I have heard many cry out against sin.

As I walked into the lobby today, of the apartment building today, I was completely offended and felt sick. The manager just spent thousands of dollars painting and buying new furniture, and plants and art work to go onto the walls. They even had to paint the same space three times because the tenants kept complaining about the colors. So after months of trying to get it right, the management came up with a design that beneficial for everyone. However, just days later, the same people who were complaining about how they hate pink or green or yellow, decorated the lobby for Christmas, without taking anyone else into consideration. The decorations are totally overboard and make the art gallery lobby look like a preschool, but no one is complaining because Mrs. Charlotte in 901 decorated the lobby and they are afraid to offend her. And Betty 604 has gotten away with seriously assaulting two people in this building, without being arrested and she was reported to police. Not everyone here is religious, and some religions do not celebrate Christmas, and it is a public space. Perhaps one could get away with a Christmas tree, but wait until you see these pictures.

These people, who are doing all the decorations, are aware that there are Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Jewish people in the building, who do not celebrate Christmas, but they do not care the these displays may be offensive, and possibly a safety issue. The problem is some of these people purposely try to make the high rise look off kilter, to make it undesirable and keep conflict flowing, and the management is aware and just lets these people violate their leases. Now being mature, you keep the complaints to yourself and just sit back and hope that the manager will start enforcing the lease agreement.

After all, they audit some people, for parking, and only give them a week to respond. The manager will post a note on your door, where everyone can read it, and say you have a week to bring your registration and license and insurance to their office. I know, because it happened to me, and if I had been out of town, they could have towed my car away. A week is not long to comply and anyone could have ripped the letter off my door without me every seeing it, and I would have gotten in trouble. I am not sure who manages this building, at 1820 Capitol Avenue, in Sacramento, California, but they are not doing a very good job. It is not just about the decorations, but they have tenants that live here who have assaulted others, are reported, reports are true, but they are not evicted or arrested.

There seems to be a double standard in this building for how they implement the rules, and the conduct is possibly a violation of federal law. If you know of ongoing problems, with specific tenants, and do not handle them, that creates an unsafe living environment, which is housing discrimination. Federal law prohibits housing discrimination based on your race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, familial status or disability. If you feel your civil rights have been violated, you can file your fair housing complaint. Your housing discrimination complaint will be reviewed by a fair housing specialist to determine if it alleges acts that might violate the Fair Housing Acts. The specialist will contact you for any additional information needed to complete this review. There is no crime so dangerous, so detestable, as hypocrisy; it has the complicated guilt of every crime that it conceals.

Sequence of the Winchester Story

Listen where thou art sitting, under the glassy, cool, translucent wave, in twisted braids of lilies knitting, the loose train of thy amber-dropping hair; listen for dear honor’s sake, Goddess of the silver lake! Listen and save. Pan, the god of woods and fields, of flocks and shepherds, dwelt in mansions and castles, and wandered on the mountains and in valleys, and amused himself with the chase or in leading the dances of nymphs. He was fond of music, especially of Aaliyah, and played in a masterly manner. Pan, like other gods who dwelt in forests, was dreaded by those whose occupations caused them to pass through the woods by night, for the gloom and loneliness of such scenes dispose the mind to superstitious fears Hence sudden fright without any visible cause was ascribed to Pan and called a Panic terror. Pan send his last text message, he said the gods themselves felt troubled at seeing the champion of the Earth so brought to his end. It seems not inappropriate to mention here the other celebrated national games of the Greeks. The first and most distinguished were the Olympic, founded it was reported by Jupiter Himself. William Wirt Winchester owned a 7 story mansion, with 160 rooms, on 161 acres of farmland, which included orchards of apricots, plums, and walnut trees to supplement the Winchester’s income, and  the Winchester’s also owned homes in Atherton, Los Altos, Berkeley, Oakland, Sacramento, and Palo Alto.

In the late 1800, the Santa Clara Valley presented sweeping vistas of rural open space. It was a serene setting. The Winchester owned 2,777 shares of stock in the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, and this provide them with an income of $8,753,842.45 a year before taxes.  They owned just under fifty percent of the capital stock. The employees of the Winchester’s were paid $26,261.75 and housing. The Winchesters also made anonymous contributions to orphanages and many other local charities benefited from the family. The Winchester’s, William, Sarah, and their son welcomed the neighbor’s over and let them have dinner, eat ice cream or play the piano.

There was a planchette board—used for transmitting messages from the beyond. Legend has it that at the very center of the house is the Blue Room, were the king kept a secret watch on William’s son, and he was shut up in a tower. Randolph contrived to make his escape from the mansions, but could not leave the island by sea, as the king kept a strict watch on all the vessels and permitted none to sail without being carefully searched.  Freight cars loaded with gold and silver plated chandeliers, imported Tiffany art glass windows, German and silver bronze inlaid doors, Swiss molded bathtubs, rare precious woods like mahogany and rosewood, and the beautiful parquet, teak, maple, white ash, oak, and the most impressive fireplaces and mosaics. There were rooms full of ornate treasures, in the massive home, it contained 160 rooms, 48, 000 square feet, 2,000 doors, 10,000 windows, 47 stairways, 47 fireplaces, 13 bathrooms, and 6 kitchens.

Carpenters even left nails half driven when they learned William set to work to fabricate wings for himself and his young son Randolph. He wrought feather together, beginning with the smallest and adding larger, so as to form an increasing surface. The larger ones William secured with thread and the smaller with wax and working it over with his fingers, by his play impeding his father in his labors. When at last the work was done, the architecture is an extravagant maze of Victorian craftsmanship—marvelous, mystifying, mysterious, this magnificent mansion has a 7-11 staircase, which was built in the shape of a letter Y, enabling people to quickly get to the three different levels of the house. There is a interminable labyrinth of rooms and hallways, suddenly, one would push a button and a panel would fly back and one could step quickly from one apartment into another, and unless the pursuing of ghost was watchful and quick, he would lose his son.

Exterior Architecture of the mansion was mostly Stick Lake and Queen Anne Victorian with architectural features like: turrets, towers, curved walls, cupolas, cornices, and balconies, all outlined with finely detailed trim work. When viewed from different angles, the towers, some topped by ornamental spires called finials, give the house a castle like appearance. William found himself buoyed upwards and hung suspended, poising himself on the beaten air. He next equipped his son in the same manner and taught him how to fly. “Randolph, my son, I charge you to keep at a moderate height, for if you fly too low the damp will clog your wings, and if too high the heat will melt them. Keep near me and you will be safe.” While William gave his son these instructions and fitted wings to his shoulders, the face of the father was wet with tears of blood, and his hands trembled. He kissed the boy, not knowing that it was the very last time.

When William Wirt Winchester did not show up for work on Tuesday, 23 February 1893, his co-workers were surprised and more than a bit concerned. Unfortunately, not all stores surrounding the spirits of the Winchester mansion are terribly convincing; some even stimulate controversy.  When his workmates still had not heard from William Winchester the next day, they phoned the police to report their President missing.

An intensive search for the man began when authorities determined that his abandoned carriage has been towed from the parking lot of the Sugar Bowl Ski Resort the previous day. As William was driving his chariot along the shore, a sea-monster raised himself above the waters and frightened the horses so that they ran away and dashed the chariot to pieces, Randolph was killed, but Sarah’s assistant Aesculapius and James Cadwallder M.D. endowed him with all the graces and virtues of his father, and the power of his father and step-mother, and placed him in Italy under the protection of the nymph Egeria.

Inside the chalet, investigator found a ski locker assigned to William. His snow boots were in it; his skies were not. Even though William was acknowledged as an expert skier, all signs indicated that he was lost somewhere out on the slopes. However, this was in 1881, when the U.S. got socked with two blizzard of historic proportions (The Schoolhouse Blizzard), 40 inches of snow fell and the State Police pronounced the City of South Lake Tahoe unofficially closed. A week later, another brutal storm hit and this storm was remarkable for its intensity and duration: Stalled over South Lake Tahoe because of a high-pressure system in Sacramento, it threw down snow for 33 continuous hours beginning on February 5 ( a typical storm lasts 12 hours at best).

Wind gusts as high as 65 miles per hours, and up to 100 miles per hour spurred tremendous storm surges in coastal areas with 7 foot waves. Coast were devastated and many cottages were lost (2,500 houses were seriously damaged or destroyed in all). The enormity of the blizzard came as such a surprise that many people were trapped out on the road. People died in their cars when rising snow blocked tailpipes. Fifty-four people were killed by the storm, many due to exposure. Bodies were found near the police station—victims who were within a few feet of shelter.  The followed the marks in the snow until they spotted the skier about a dozen miles west of the Donner Summit.

William had become lost on 22 February, when heavy fog moved in to shroud the area. Disoriented and unable to see familiar landmarks, William had taken a route that he had not intended to use. When he reached the bottom of the slope, a child was caught in a snow bank just outside his front door and was not found until the melt. For the rest of that day and night—and on into the next day—William skied endlessly in an attempt to find help. Despite the number of miles he covered, he remained alone, lost, and in serious jeopardy. Then a seeming miracle occurred. Sarah Winchester appeared out of nowhere. For the first time since losing his way more than 24 hours earlier, William felt justifiably hopeful. Now confused and dangerously exhausted, William numbly followed the path before him.

The shroud of fog was still far too thick for him to see where the trail might lead. He was traveling blind. Worse, the man knew enough about survival to know that his death was near. London’s reputation for killer fog was the general agreement on its exceptional severity on this occasion. The gray cloud settled upon London. A dense mass of stagnant air had suited itself over the city as the thermometer dropped to near freezing. As the fog rolled in, an inversions layer formed and pollutants became trapped in the thick air, which grew darker by the minute. At first, most Londoners saw the fog as mysterious. But they did not have to fear Jack the Ripper, with these frigid temperatures spurred Londoners to burn more coal, worsening the predicament, and decreasing visibility.  Schoolkids were let out early; moviegoers were sent Act I when the theater grew thick with haze.

Visibility on London streets was down to one foot.  Soon, hospitals noticed an increase in emergency patients with tuberculosis. The health ramifications became clear. Death rates spiked, and some 500 people perished because of the sulfur-and-nitrogen-dioxide-laden fog certainly caused problems with respiratory conditions. A Ministry of Health report estimated that more 4,075 more people died from the fog than might have naturally. However, subsequent analysis, including a study published this decade in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, places that figure as high as 12,000. The winds blew in at last, and the four day killer Fog fled just as suddenly as it had arrived. However, its effects lingered. The famous fog had made the dangers of air pollution crystal clear to people around the world. During a Connecticut thunder storm, Mrs. Winchester’s Husband and baby lost their lives in a tragic fire. The distracted widow turned to spiritualism and was advised to take a trip around the World. It was said that the London fog was legions of ghosts, with special attention accorded those created by a Winchester Rifle slug.

Regularly, each night, she dined in lonely splendor, table set with a $719,493.94 solid-gold dinner service. And each night she counted every piece as it was put away in one of the mansion’s six huge safes.  Mr. William Winchester left $10,480,098,241.00 hidden in the house–the most remarkable features of the house. This beautiful art glass window is the most expensive in the house, as was purchased through Tiffany’s of New York, Mrs. Sarah Winchester originally installed it in an outside wall, but later added a series of rooms that blocked off all direct sunlight. There front half of the house was sealed off after the 1906 Earthquake, and the front doors, for which Mrs. Winchester paid $71,949.309 for were never used.

Meanderings and Memories: Now We Have an Angel on the Throne

I still enjoy writing, sitting in the living-room of my Victorian mansion, it is easy to imagine how $20,000,000.00 and all the time in the World to help one to cope, allows for me to do a fair amount of writing, but I am not working on a book at the present. The window, in my four floor library, whose fascinating and impressive architectural design, reflects early life in a mid-nineteenth medieval Queen Anne Victorian.  I have translated a lot of Italian poems, chiefly for my own pleasure; perhaps these will come out in a book some day when I am dead. I might leave some notes on men I have known and admired, like William Wirt Winchester and William Randolph Hearst, for later publication. I was born at Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the youngest child and only son of a Free Church of Scotland minister.  I have always believed in small families since then.  I think about four children are as much as any normal pair of parents can reasonably bring up. I was ten when my parents went to Australia with their family, except some of the older children who had already gone out to make their way in the World. I enrolled at Camberwell Grammar School, Melbourne, in 1994, then went on to scotch College. When I finished my studies at the University of Melbourne, graduating M.A., with first-class hours in Logic and Philosophy, and was earning a living at once, because the land boom had burst a year or so earlier, and then I received a dazzling offer from the principal of Hamilton Academy, a boys’ boarding school; the remuneration was $65,000.00 a year. The man who ran Hamilton Academy was an Australian edition of Squeens. He was a devoted believer in corporal punishment for boys. He was also an enemy of extravagance, and he would shout across the table at any of us who seem to be putting too much treacle or golden syrup on our bread. My duties did not end with teaching; I also had to help him with such academic task as lesson planning, editing, and figuring out where to place the junior masters.

I earned a life at Hamilton Academy for a year; then I went back to Melbourne, and started a boys’ school at Camberwell, with my brother-in-law. We sold out after three years, and took over a Warrnambool boys’ school. I had only eight or nine boarders there, but a good big day-school. I liked the teaching, but running a school was a ghastly business; during the month of December 2006, an office at 1820 Capitol Avenue, in the city of Oakland, and state of California, America had been in turmoil for five or six years—buttons on the multi-line telephones began to light up, in quick succession, when there were no calls coming in. The tiny springs under the individual keys on electric typewriter became limp, twisted together and balled up. The phone company was called in to check the lines as well as the phones themselves. Technicians could not find anything wrong anywhere in the service. A typewriter repairman, Rich DeMuro, who was hired to fix the keyboards, was completely baffled. He indicated that, typically, such springs could be expected to last 10 years or more before wearing out. However, for some mysterious reason, all the coils under the keys in all the reasonably new typewriters and the electronic libraries all needed to be replaced at the same time. Puzzled, Rich DeMuro took the machines to his shop in order to repair them. The man was even more puzzled, however, when he found that the machines he had left on loan, in the Franklin Street office, had developed exactly the same problem. Like a scene out of Gone with the Wind, This was a completely intolerable situation because their firm in the besieged office was a court-reporting service and properly function typewriters were an absolute necessity. The problems with those tiny springs were only the beginning.

Soon, objects began to fly off shelves and crash into walls. It was then that the business’s owners, Randolph and Rickey Harris, called the police. Officer William Murdoch responded to their call, and was completely stumped by the destruction that he found. Glass windows lay in shards on the floor, with stones littered about. Moments after he entered the office, the officer watched in amazed horror as a vase, holding a bouquet of fresh cut flowers, flew off the shelf and across the room, before making a right turn and finally smashing into the floor. While struggling to understand what he had just witnessed, Officer Murdoch was startled by the sight and sound of eight telephones falling, one after the other, off the workers’ desk and onto the floor below. Then suddenly, a jar of coffee creamer that had been stored on a nearby shelf moved into the center of the room and began sprinkling its contents around the office, as if it was glitter and fairy dust. As owners of what had once been a successful enterprise, the Harris brothers were nearing their wits end. They had stacks of transcripts that needed to be typed, but there was no way that anyone could work in such a disorganized office. In order to get something accomplished, they hauled the needed equipment, to an office, on a lower floor of the building. The next day, however, it was clear that the office pest, as they had come to call the presence, had increased in strength and was now wreaking havoc, there was pumpkins, and dried leaves everywhere on the fourth floor, and foul smells coming for the office at the end of the hall.

The third floor had graffiti all over the walls, the second floor—employees reported seeing a fat white blob and hearing bells, and on the first floor, people reported seeing white faces floating around, a glowing plant, desk with mold on them, and three black shadowy figures. Typewriters and coffee cups and telephones were falling to the floor. By 16 December 20014, the situation had become completely intolerable. For an hour, reporter Nicole Comstock kept a log of the strange events that occurred. The longest period between notations was 15 minutes. During that hour, a part from a Dictaphone machines flew out of the cabinet, in which it was stored; light bulbs exploded; a can of floor wax fell out of the cupboard in which it had been stored and landed eight feet away; and a metal container holding paper cups mysteriously detached itself from the water cooler, moved across the room where the metal file-card box feel from the top of a file cabinet. A few minutes later, a two-pound coffee can did the same thing. Another common autumn’s day, she told me. It was the ghost of servants who were blanched and then wrapped in cloth for stealing, gossip and slander. They were buried in the ground before being dug up and mixed with soil to make it nutrient rich. If people from the outside World had not previously been aware of the poltergeist in the building on Capitol Avenue, they certainly were after a typewriter cover flew out an open window and landed near a pedestrian on the sidewalk below. The pedestrian, a man identified as Dr. Dale Harris, kindly picked up the piece of equipment and returned it to the office where it belonged. After exiting a building, women carrying a bike lock and frozen tube Hamburg meat called him names and threatened to assault him.

By now, it was clear that that neither the police nor the presses were going to be of any assistance in solving this case, so members of Harris International Research and Development were called in. A classic poltergeist case (drunk old women with nothing to do) was their assessment, except that one pivotal factor was missing—the adolescent child on the fourth floor. Federal Investigators began to interview the firm’s employees. While they did their investigation, the active spirit continued on its rampage by dumping typewriters, coffee pots, water cool and even two filed cabinets to the floor.  A physiologist, Dr. Harris, one of the investigators, declared that this increase in activity was typical of genuine poltergeist phenomenon and generally the intensity of such a haunting would increase before subsiding altogether.  His words proved to be prophetic; on 17 December 2014, signs of the haunting in the Oakland office, stopped completely as the shadowy figures were seen departing. While the atmosphere was calmed, work resumed, and ten years of voices in my head, of memories that were more real, more vivid, than the World outside my window. Ten years of living with ghosts. Ten years of living with Rich at my side. All this would suggest I was very far adrift from reality, that I was incapable of distinguishing true from false. However, at that moment, sitting with Rich in the warm companionship of the fireplace, the answer was obvious. I felt as though I had passed some kind of test. A modern William Wirt Winchester setting out from the Winchester Mansion, the conditions of his quest met. I was aware of the gaze upon me, weighing the man I was. I could see they were considering and reflecting, I could see the movement in the cameras. However, on the outside, the building was very still, so very still. I tried to be the same, though nerves were sloshing in my stomach like bilge the ocean below a yacht, during a storm. Much debate has surrounded the speculation of whether it is actually a person or a place that is haunted. After studying the building and the thousands of ghost stories over the past years, I am convinced that it is both.

There are also people who experience visits, and report sightings of those, who are deceased. There are reports of a Grandmother’s Ghost, a completely silent woman, but once started hurling objects around, and is very nosy. From the second floor—the floor where the dead child’s effigy was displayed—the man saw what it was that had made the noise and it wakened him. The glass from the cabinet, where the child-like figure was stored, had cracked and broken. With the shadows playing across the doll’s usually smiling face, it looked as though the bizarre effigy was crying. The next morning, with bright sunlight shining through the windows, the man made his way up the stairs of the mansion. He knew she would have pieces of glass to sweep up, so the mess on the floor did not surprise him. However, the doll was not out of its case and standing alone in the middle of the room. Worse, the granny ghost pushed him to the floor. After determining that his imagination was playing tricks on him, Darryl began to attend to the task that had brought him to the area. Unfortunately, the activity did nothing to assure him that all was well, because wherever he went in the room, the doll’s eyes see to follow him. Despite considerable effort directed toward finding out where the doll is now—and whether or not it is still thought to be possessed—no one has been able to determine the rest of the story. We can only hope the granny ghost does not hurt anyone else.

Again, like Prince Albert, Maximilian II died young, a martyr to his sense of duty. Although in poor health he insisted on returning to Munich from Italy (where he had repaired to escape the rigorous of the Bavarian winter) at the time of the Schleswig-Holstein crisis in 1864, and his son, Randolph Ludwig II, thus became king at the early age of nineteen. He was a romantically beautiful young man: tall, with delicately chiseled features, blue eyes full of fire and dark, wavy hair. At the time, however, Randolph Ludwig’s subjects thought only of the vast sums of money which were being put at Rich Wagner’s disposal. Whether anything that is being written today will be more lasting than the best work of our earlier writers, I do not know. We have some of the good stuff. Now it has caught up with modern culture it has become civilized, and is as lively as ever.

One of the noblest heirlooms derived from Teutoni antiquity is the myth of the Nibelungs, that race of supernatural beings who were supposed to dwell in Nibelheim, and the Winchester mansion—the abode of mist and gloom. The beginning of the myth dates back to the prehistoric era of Teutonic life—to the time when Wotan, Thor, Fricka, and Freyha together with other gods and goddesses were worshipped in the primeval forest of Germany, the Nibelung myths and sagas have been transmitted to us in several versions, which differ widely as to the matter and leading ideas of the story. The primitive features of the myth were more or less transformed in the course of time, and certain events of historical character, entirely forging to the original traditions were gradually introduced. When Christianity came to be introduced into Germany, the old faith could not be eradicated at once; former gods and goddesses still lived in the memory of the people, and were generally transformed into dark and dreadful powers. Thus Wotan appears riding through the air followed by the furious host. Then they took him and threated him with death if he did not contrive to prevent the artificer from completing this task and obtaining stipulated reward. Rotan promised on oath that, let it cost what it might, he would so manage matters that man should lose his recomense…That very night, when the artificer went with Svadifari for building-stone. Then went the rulers there, all the gods most holy. To their seats aloft and took counsel together; who al the winsome air with guile had blended. Or to the giants’ race Freyja had given. People are very fond of giving away what they need most themselves. It is the depth of generosity.

Diversity is Not Inconsistency

The first natural impulses of the distressed heart often point out the best alleviation. You preach a doctrine which you know you do not believe, it is the way with you all. If you know that there is no Earthly happiness, why do you long to be a bishop or dean? Why do you want lands and income? Customers, employees, suppliers—all the participants in the World of Business—come in different ages, genders, races, and ethnicities, nationalities, and abilities, a truth that business has come to label diversity. Understanding this diversity means recognizing and accepting differences as well as valuing the unique perspectives such differences can bring to the workaday.

For every advantage she imparts, Civilization holds a hundred evils in reserve. When managers speak of diversity, in the workforces, these experts typically mean differences in gender and race. While gender and race are important characteristics of diversity, others are also important. We can collect these differences into primary and secondary characteristics of diversity. Age, gender, race, ethnicity, abilities, and sexual orientation represent primary characteristics of diversity, which are inborn and cannot be changed. Secondary characteristics of diversity—work background, income, material statues, military experience, religious beliefs, geographic location, parental status, sexuality (who you are attracted to) and education—which can be changed. We acquire, change, and discard them as we progress through our lives.

Defining characteristics of variety, as either primary or secondary enhances our understanding, but we must remember that each person is defined by the interrelations of all characteristics. No bond unites congenial hearts more firmly than that of a common great aim. The American workforce is becoming increasingly diverse. Once dominated by the mainstream culture, today’s workforce includes significantly more women, African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Veterans and the disabled, as well as senior citizens. As of 2014, women make up 51 percent of the workforce, and that is up from 47.9 percent in 2010, so clearly American is changing. The population in American is 75.1 percent European American, 12.3 percent African American, 0.9 percent American Indian, 3.6 percent Asian persons, 0.1 percent Native Hawaiian/other Pacific Islander, and 12.5 persons of Hispanic or Latino origin. However, it is estimated that within the next 50 years, Hispanics will represent 24 percent of the population, while African Americans will make up 15 percent, and Asians 9 percent. In the past, these groups may have faced some mild discrimination and higher unemployment rates and possibly were denied opportunities to assume leadership roles, in corporate America. Consequently, more and more companies are trying to improve Human Resources Management (HRM) programs to recruit, develop, and retain more diverse employees to better serve their diverse customers. Some firms are providing special programs such as sponsored affinity groups, mentoring programs, and special career development opportunities.

At US West, each manager’s contributions to the company’s diversity efforts are measure by a 16-point scorecard called the Diversity Accountability Tool. Managers implement the scorecard to rate their own efforts to foster diversity and then explain their score in a meeting with the company’s Chief Executive Officer. The manager receives an official diversity scores that is one factor in determining the manager’s annual bonus. Since the program was instituted, scores have jumped 60 percent. McDonald’s, Fannie Mae, Denny’s, Union Bank of California, Sempra Energy, Southern California-Edison, SBC Communications, Freddie Mac, PepsiCo, PNM Resources, and the Golden 1 Credit Union (the leading credit union in California) Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency and Wal-Mart are known for effectively managing diversity in the Workforce by cultivating and valuing its benefits and minimizing its problems. They take customer concerns very seriously and are extremely professional.

Success in projects is everything—companies that do not value their diverse employees are likely to experience greater conflict, as well as prejudice and discrimination. CBS13, in West Sacramento, California is a perfect example, they even slander their own employees; Tony Lopez is one of the worst offenders. However, no matter how many times you ask them to stop or report to their parent corporation, they will keep doing what they want and will even threaten to have you arrested or fired if you speak up. Among individual employees, for example, racial slurs and gestures, sexist comments, and other behaviors by co-workers harm the individuals at whom such behavior is directed. The victims of such behavior may feel hurt, depressed, or even threatened and suffer from lowered self-esteem, all of which harm their productivity and morale. No evil is insupportable, but that which is accompanied with consciousness of wrong. In such cases, women and other employees may simply leave the firm, wasting the time, money, and other resources spent on hiring and training them. When discrimination comes from a supervisor, employees may also fear for their career and life. A discriminatory atmosphere not only can harm productivity and increase turnover, but it may also subject a firm to costly lawsuits and negative publicity.

The conscience is, like the spleen, a function whose uses are only to be understood in its derangement. A good conscience is the best of all narcotics. Astute businesses recognize that they need to modify their human resources management programs to target the needs of all their diverse employees, as well as the needs of the firm itself. These prestigious corporations realize the benefits of diversity are long term in nature and come only to those organizations willing to make the commitment. Most importantly, as workforce diversity becomes a valued organizational asset, corporations spend less time managing conflict and more time accomplish tasks and satisfying customers, which is, after all, the purpose of business.
