Virtue is the Only Nobility

Ancients called dreams the whispering of the gods, and there are thousands of other poetic, mystical, and theological explanations. You are for sincerity and against corruption, a norm of life in your heart, which has made you, in our hearts, a model. Virtue alone is true honor, true freedom, and solid, durable happiness. Every man that is destitute of virtue is at heart a coward. The greatest personal advantages, if not strengthened by virtue, are the most fatal gifts that nature can dispense. Small as it is, a step in life’s pilgrimage should be counted as an experience of happiness, for it is one in one’s trudge. Virtue is the music of the soul, the harmony of the passions. The Earth is so boundless and the morning sunshine is so splendid! How can a person not value so sweet years? Live on, that is my wish for you. Virtue can slumber, even in the midst of misfortune. Outward ceremonies will not compensate for the want of virtue. Chasity is a great virtue in men as in a woman.

A man who understands life can learn the delicate charm of flowers; a man who understands friendship can learn the happiness of others, the man is you, my friend! May you discard all of your sigh and sadness into the furnace of life to cast golden hope. May your dream come true. Colorful spring is the most cheerful season, I have so many words to say but I do not know how to start. May deep blessing be around you day after day, year after year. As there are virtues which are their own reward, so there are vices which amply their own punishment. Virtue is the music of the soul, the harmony of the passions. The impulses of love are so subtle, and the influence of false reasoning, when enforced by eloquence and passion, so unbounded, that no human virtue is secure from degeneracy. There is dignity in conscious virtue. I wish you can find that there contains my heartfelt blessing in this little gift. In this special day, I wish your life is full of laughter and joy every second.

As in waking fantasy, the dream is often the workshop of creative minds. Often times, new ideas take shape or are suggested by the action of our dreams. Sometimes there is a more indirect result: one student reported that after cramming all evening for a big exam, he went to bed and dreamed of great achievements. He woke up feeling so flushed with success, so confident, that he went in and made a nearly perfect score on the exam! We are pretty sure he did this more as a result of having crammed for the answers, but the added boost to his self-confidence certainly did not do any harm. The realm of fantasy is just as much a part of the cognitive process as any other respectable thinking or memory system. However, fantasy does have many characteristics that make it difficult to study. One is that it is so personal and subjective that it is difficult to share with others. A fantasizer may not even be certain of all the details of the fantasy himself, making it hard to describe to another person. Another problem with trying to understand someone’s fantasy is that the details and events in a fantasy may seem too different or unusual to be shared. Suppose I am daydreaming in class, and the professor raps me on the head and demands to know what I was daydreaming about?

Is this for real? It is not what it seems, you are like an angel. The feel of your hand as it touches my hair, it makes me tremble. Do not want to let go of the feelings we share. Our hearts beating fast, and I want it to last, there is a burning inside.  You are drifting, the Sun comes up, you are fading, you seem so far.  I do not know if I am awake, open my eyes. I may be afraid to tell him that I was imagining that the love of my life suddenly swooped down through the window and carried me off to Heaven, thus relieving the class of the rest of his boring lecture! He might be hurt by the thought, though I was intending him no harm at all. He may also get hung up on the unusual thought of me being in love, a fact that is absolutely irrelevant to his class. Another difficult aspect of fantasy or imaginative thinking is that I do not have any control over the process. I may start the fantasy off with some conscious idea, but where it goes from there is up to all that is packed into those cells in my memory center. The fun of fantasy ( but also the terror!) is that it is free and spontaneous.

One of the fantasy’s most important characteristics is that, generally speaking, it is a product of the fantasizer’s own interior mind, not of one’s environment. Real people, places, and events are often the subjects of our imaginings. In fantasy, the experiences that are part of our memory banks may replay themselves, often with no apparent external cue of stimuli at one time, but during fantasy they seem to be independent acting on their own, often unrelated to what we are consciously experiencing at the time. One of the most significant characteristics of creative people is an active and fully accepted imagination, one that has full play in their lives. Many discoveries and inventions began as playful gestures, casual and fanciful experiments, fantasy imaginings, which caused the more logical or rational process to later get into gear. Methods of inner imagery are of the utmost value. These methods help release creativity. The inability to allow oneself to relax sufficiently to let fantasy material into awareness seriously restricts the creative imagination. Even if you do want to part from me, I will still thank you for leaving me with a wonderful experience worthy of my memory. I am awake, open my eyes, and this moment when everything is still, I close my eyes, and then we kiss, your love comes alive on my lips.

Happy National Friendship Day

So, all kinds of cognitive activities, including fantasy and dreaming, can result in learning. Attitudes and most skills are not inborn; they must be acquired. This process takes a thousand different forms. Most of our dreams have one characteristic in common: they do not follow the laws of logic that govern our waking thought. The categories of space and time are neglected. People who are dead, we see alive; events which we watch in the present, occurred many years ago. We dream of two events as occurring simultaneously when in reality they could not possibly occur at the same time. We pay just as little attention to the laws of space. It is simple for us to move to a distant place in an instant, to be in two places at once, to fuse two persons into one, or to have one person suddenly be changed into another. We are extremely perceptive and absorb what goes on around us long before we can even put it into words or even understand what we are tuning into. We are like finely tuned receivers that pick up much more than what is merely said. We are receptive and attuned to every mood, feeling, and change that goes on in people around us. We are particularly affected by the way the people we are connected to feel and act. Every time I think of you, my heart feels warm. Many shiny days have passed amidst the beaming sun, I walk through the rose garden expecting or wishing to see you again.

Your melodious voice still lingers in the woods in my memory and your enchanting figure files from time to time into my dreams that arouse my memory of the past with gentle breezes, murmuring brooks, white clouds and sunlight. Short as was it was, our meeting has shaped my life. Please accept my lasting yearning for you, my dear friend. Missing is like an endless river, a tender and soft cloud, a fragrant flower and the music of your soothing voice. Do you hear my thoughts of yearning? They are flying with the sun to the far-flung frontier, lingers over your heart. Although season, river and mountain will change, my missing for you will never change. When your gone, my heart beats like a rabbit running through the forest, as I long for your return. Your voice and fragrance linger in my mind. As the cleaver god you are, you come into my dream, giving me so much happiness and satisfaction. Trickling rain, endless longing, the raindrops of my yearning will they fall on your hair and moisten your heart? Why is it you look at me as if I have changed? In this rainy season and breezy black night, do you know the one who misses you the most is me? Past events are dreams in memory. You are the only pervasive image to me. The water drops on green leaves are my tears, as I have missed you. In this good season and beautiful days, I send you love and happiness, as my best wishes.

When I think of you, I remember many beautiful dreams we wove together. I leave you loneliness and you leave me a memory. Faraway mountains cannot cover the afterglow just as I cannot hide my dear love for you. You are far away from me, but your voice sounds in my ears like the sweet melody of a harp, plucked by angels. I feel your love in my heart every day and every night of departure. I do not care if we are together as long as we love each other. May we love each other forever, as the stars are bright and each flower is fragrant, and whenever I remember you, I remember your love for me. Tears of joy comfort the pains in my heart. The best wishes you leave me turn to the passion for my dream. I wish to live always in the dream, in which your photograph I can see. Oh, my dear, am I also in your dream? Open your remembrance; there is no end to our pleasure. These events cherished in heart; sweet memories will last. In my heart there is a secret. It is contained in only in three words, I love you. How tranquil! How quiet! What silvery moonlight! Where are you, my dear? When can we sit together by the window, enjoying this quiet tranquil evening? Dear friend, I left nothing except you. Yet, if you like, I will hide my heart in the bottom of your heart. How I miss that trail of our accompanied footprints in the days of our intoxicating friendship.

Every Generation has Improvements–there is Only One

Life presents us with a common, yet precious gift, that is youth. Let us repay it with our enthusiasm and diligence. Time is drifting away, allowing for no procrastination, and fantasies. Friends, start your pursuit here. I cannot stall time, but I can retain youthful vitality, friendship, and love. If I take good care of them, they will take good care of me. The goodwill and zest are like spring. Friends, leave your youthful words, poems, and pictures, all on unforgettable pages in your memory, as life’s record. Aspiration, diligence, pursuit, and innovation are all melodious notes. When harmony is combined, they compose a beautiful symphony like Beethoven might compose. Leave behind you all the hesitations and puzzles, confirm your belief in life, and compress your pursuit, and love into a tremendous impetus to boost yourself into a hopeful tomorrow. Friendship born out of several years, leaves everlasting warmth in our deep hearts. You give me comfort and warmth which encourages me when I was lonely and sad. I will take this as the most valuable present and treasure.

Today, I am lucky enough to exchange ideas with your and enjoy infinite happiness. Our friendship is like glittering and translucent gemstones. We wash it with painstaking effort, crave life with honesties and ornament it with wisdom. Look! It is exquisitely carved, jewelry, and priceless. May we cherish life much more. Charms and tenderness show the youthful allure; warmth and consideration will win many friends. However, it is admiring you that I enjoy. The calling of hearts focuses on honesty, I am moved by your secureness, may we exchange serenity? Honest spring Sun can warm the coldness of the Earth; sincere friendship can green the desert of one’s heart. I like your pure personality: grandeur, tallness, and straightness, honesty, modesty, and geniality.  I am happy and cheerful for that I have such a good teacher and helpful friend like you. May our friendship be as natural, free, and vigorous as the combination of the Sun and Earth, happy are they who are blessed with the power of making happy. Every day is the day of small things, with people who are happy. Agreeable circumstances, arising in a disagreeable prospect, convey the greatest happiness that can be imagined.

That kind of ideal happiness which arises from the contemplation of imaginary objects is in the power of everyone. To know your own happiness, and that it is now, nor to leave it to after reflection to look back upon the preferable past with a heavy and self-accusing heart, that you did not choose it when you might have chosen it, is all that is necessary to complete your felicity. Happy is the man who knows his follies in his youth. Every generation has improvements. I have dreams of the future better than the history of the past. Methods of inner imagery are of the utmost value. These methods help release creativity. The inability to allow oneself to relax sufficiently to let fantasy material into awareness seriously restricts the creative imagination. We are always trying to understand or make sense out of our own and others’ actions. It has been said that man has a will to meaning. He strives to find meaning everywhere, and usually succeeds. What we are doing when we interpret something, when we find meaning everywhere, and usually succeeds. What we are doing when we interpret something, when we find meaning is not entirely clear. A recurrent fantasy of mine, that I have not had lately, is of myself in a cabin in beautiful country. I am lying in bed, and whatever I need is brought to me although there are no people around. I enjoy the rest, and at the same time know when I have this fantasy, that rest is what I need. I get the message and act on it. I drop some of the things I have been doing and this fantasy disappears.

All Lives fulfill their Destiny

At this moment when Spring returns to the Earth and everything is at the turn of renewal, I wish your health, wealth, and longevity, and your family health, happiness, every success and satisfaction. Hold on tight to what you have because you do not know just how long you will have it. A pleasant mood and the ensuing good health are the biggest capital for happiness. Wish you a cheerful mood and longevity. Friendship must not overturn generosity. The pleasure you have brought about, the assistance you have offered, the love you have showed and the life you have lived, all these aspects make you more amiable and respectable, with every passing years in our hearts. How brilliant and tender is the moon at night, may your life be like this fantastic night filled with happiness and ecstasy. Companionship, like love, is the child of sympathy, not of complaint. Genius must be somewhat like us Warriors, calm, content, in consciousness of power. May bright sunshine, youthful vigour, beautiful appearance, and a comfortable smile belong to you forever! I hope that floating thoughts turn to colorful stars and knock at your beautiful dreams every night. Wish you a bright future and do not forget me. If life is a flower, love is the honey of the flower. Many your future be as beautiful as a flower and as sweet as honey. Excellent always are the gifts which are made acceptable by the virtue of the giver. May you write a poem of love together with your steady melody like rock, passion, and imagine as deep as the blue sky. Your enthusiasm warms my ice cold heart; your brevity encourages my yearnings for love; your care arouses my gratitude. At the beginning of the day, may we long for the bright future throughout the wave of the first sight of light. It is a godlike power to confer benefits rather than to be obligated to receive them. Please accept my flower loop weave by poems, which is the praise for life and love.

May you be happy and joyful in the bright moonlight. There is no creature whose inward being is so strong that it is not greatly determined by what lives outside. Human happiness is never in fruition, but always in prospect of pursuits. Pleasure must be something solid and permanent, without fear and without certainty. Nature seeks happiness. You have to be aggressive, but you also have to know who you are. I cherish every meeting in life, every warmth in the World, every friend of mine. Even departure, I look at it as the happiness for meeting again. Rosy clouds appears after raining; sincere friendship can be felt after departure. Water cannot be stopped by stone and friendship cannot change by long distance. We depart each other, but your image is still in my heart like the obscure illusion of time making my melancholy heart. However, although there is sadness of departure in my heart, in my eyes you left sunshine of hoe in my heart. I wish you good luck in my heart silently. Let us leave our memories in the scent of the flowers, every corner of our lives keeps our friendship and fantasy alive. Do you still remember the rose garden with the colorful flowers? Beautiful roses and green trees are on both sides of it. On many mornings and me nights, we used to take a walk there. It is in my memory and your heart with our friendship. Do not recall the past sadly for it has gone; make use of today wisely, for it belongs to us; greet the unknown tomorrow with a strong heart bravely. We are always yearning for life, and even suffering from the biggest frustration or setback, you should not despair, but let this moment ignite the fire of hope for life. Not only do stars give us direction at night, but also report to us the coming of dawn. Although there is a storm and thistles and thorns, we will not wrinkle before the storm. We should reach the city of light, and our souls will soar into great heights.

How Cool, how Quiet is True Courage!

Warmth and tenderness of heart, with an affectionate, open manner, will beat all the clearness of head in the World, for attraction. The qualities which are the most attractive before dinner sometimes become the least so in the evening. Games prevent honest, intimate, and open relationships between the players. Yet people play them because they fill up time, provoke attention, reinforce early opinions about self and others, and fulfill a sense of destiny.

Ryan Phillippe Height and Weight

A person is worthwhile because they are human. One does not have to earn that worth. If an individual does not measure up to his or her ideal self, that person may develop extreme feelings of inferiority, perhaps even an inferiority complex, a sense of complete worthless that lasts for their whole life. Both inferiority feelings and the feeling that you are competent to deal with the World take a long time and much practice to develop.

Benevolence is the duty of one who aspires to wisdom. It is wonderful and delightful to think how long a good man’s beneficence may be potent, even after his enlightenment. Few people are so perfect as not to err sometimes; and if you are convinced of your errors, you will be more cautious how you give way to them a second time.

New pictures 157

First of all things in the World a man must be a man, with all the grace and vigor and, if possible, all the beauty of the body. Then he must be a gentleman, with all the grace, the vigor, the good taste of the mind. And then with both of these, no matter what his creed, his dogmas, his superstitions, his religion, with both of these he must try to live a beautiful life of their spirit.

He is just what a young man ought to be, sensible, good humored, lively; and I never saw such happy manners, so much ease, with such perfect breeding! He is also handsome, which a young man ought likewise to be, if he possibly can. His character is thereby complete.

417

Affectation of candor is common enough, one meets it everywhere. However, to be candid without ostentation or design, to take the good of everybody’s character and make it still better, and say nothing of the bad, belongs to you alone. We seldom appear considerable to others when we appear of no consequence to ourselves. There is a higher sort of bravery, the bravery of self-control.

Men are endowed with every gradation of course, from the calm energy of reflection, which is rendered still more effective by physical firmness, to the headlong precipitation of reckless spirit; from the resolution that grows more imposing and more respectable, as there is greater occasion for its exercise, to the fearful and ill directed energies of despair.

Courage is a virtue; passion is a vice; passion, therefore, cannot be courage. It seems to me that if we are going to live sanely, then we must respect and be sensitive to differences, realizing that no two individuals are alike, and that if we really understand someone, we understand how he or she differs from us.

422

The youthful heart is ready to believe that what it wishes will happen. Alas, how doubly sharp does this readiness render the barb of disappointment. These birds which tell us news are seldom very credible, and are often not very creditable. You must take a bird’s word for what it may be worth. Fortune is a tender parent, and often doth more for her favorite offspring than either they deserve or wish.

The Price of falling in Love

Capture2

All of us make an occasional attempt to realize a dream. In our computer oriented, information valuing society, emotions and emotional people are often ridiculed. It is usually not a compliment when one is described as being emotional. Being valuing beings, we learn to consider some emotions as good and others undesirable. As a little child, it was instilled into me to be silent and reticent. This was one of the most important traits to form in the character of a young man.

20140922_141944

However, I entertain the hope that in our venturing we shall get addicted to wonder and know the joy of constantly feeling something a little new. Grief can take care of itself, but to get full value of a joy, you must have somebody to divide it with. Pleasure, joy, and happiness all involve a sense of well-being, a sense of being up, and having good feelings toward yourself and others.

Robbie 003

Nonetheless, some individuals are convinced that life must be painful. They resent any good feelings in themselves or others. Joy seems somehow irresponsible to them. Yet, the price we pay for avoiding the pain of being fully alive is that we are excluded from the pleasure as well. The way to love other people is to express what we feel, anger and love, without aiming to hurt feelings. Open but reverent communication is how to make love in our lives.

Happy days3 272

The whole crusade for control of the emotions is, of course, emotionally grounded, and it is prosecuted in a most emotional fashion. Sometimes it is necessary to control strong emotions, as least temporarily. Perhaps it is the instinctive trait of most of us to seek an explanation for any great happiness as we are always prone to discuss the causes of our adversity.

Park 069

Imagination may form fine pictures of felicity from an indulgence in every wish; but, so blind are mankind to their own happiness, that it is oftener to the gratification than to the disappointment of their misery owing. Of all things in this World, more dominion, or the empire over ourselves, is not only the most glorious, as reason is the superior nature of man, but the most valuable, in respect of real human pleasure.

Thanksgiving 045

Self-approbation is the highest honor, and the highest happiness, of a reasonable being. Money can give happiness where there is nothing else to give it. However, true happiness can be found only in congruity, and what is natural. The best of happiness is mine, the power and the will to be useful.

025

There is no happiness like that of being loved by your fellow creatures, and the feeling that your presence is an addition to their comfort. Our friendships and intimacies are only calculated for strong life and health. You cannot see my eyes, they do not see you. Hear me when I say they do not mind at all. The prettiest are always further.

392

It is the rain that I hear coming, not a stranger or a ghost, it is the quiet of the storm approaching that I fear the most. It is that pain that I hear coming, the slightest crystal tear and drops to the ground in silence, when my love is near. When waters engulf us we reach for a star.

328

Darling, when did you fall? When was it over? It is marching through my door now, the stoney cold of lonesome. A bell tolls for my heart and now my lonesome song begins. Darling, when did you call? I could not here you. Darling, when…when did you cry? I could not hear you. I supposed it is the price of falling in love. He that looks for a star puts out his candles.

344

Life never seems so clear and easy as when the heart is beating faster at the sight of some generous self-risking deed. We feel no doubt then what is the highest prize the soul can win; we almost believe in our power to attaint it. There is noting that human imagination can figure brilliant and enviable that human genius and skill do not aspire to realize.

20150222_122531

The man who has many gratifications is apt to wander in imagination from daily and familiar joys, and confidently to reach after things yet untired. So wholesome is effort! So miraculous the strength that we do not know of! Art is her soul’s husband. A man of thought, fancy, and sensibility may, at any time, be a man of affairs if he will only choose to give himself trouble.

20150222_122312

Keep good people in company, and you shall be of their number. An honest hearts is not always to be trusted with itself in bad company. Nothing will ever be attempted, if all possible objections must be first overcome. Fire cannot be forced downward, nor can true love. He that attempts the impossible will often achieve the extremely difficult. If eagles gaze at the Sun, may not men and women at the gods?

kl 004

To scale great heights, we must come out of the lowermost depths. The way to Heaven is through hell. Life only becomes wrong when it ceases to aspire. Warmth and tenderness of heart, with an affectionate, open manner, will beat all the clearness of head in the World, for attraction. It is always a mystery what people see in each other.

I am in the dark, I am underwater searching for a teardrop in the water. I can feel your shadow over me, I can hear your whisper in my ear. The ocean is bleeding, it is taking me down. I am falling, you are watching me fall. I am watching as your body is falling deeper.

20140922_142841

You are looking for a teardrop, here it is. I remember the way you used to dance. Then I remember that you will never dance again. Now you are fallen, I am falling with you; and with us, our blood, our love. Our heartbeats used to move in time, they have slowed down, left us being. This is the story of a fallen love.

It is sometimes a Happiness to be Ignorant of our Destiny

One of life’s compensations is that there is always something ahead. On an afternoon drive in the mountains, the intuitive person may pick up a global or universal sense (a feeling of being part of the entire World, one with humanity or the universe) from the experience. He is unlikely to be as concerned with the height of the trees as the cognitive type, and he will probably be less aware of scents and sights than the sensate type. He is enjoying his own internal experiences, though they might be triggered by his surroundings on the drive. A new creed became his, a belief in happiness. When standing among the trees, he gets the feeling you get when looking into the Heavens, and it seems the trees cannot be measured in inches or feet, in days or years. It is like you are a child, who snuck into the grown-ups’ party, or are a character in a fairy tale. You crane your neck to see the treetops, but it is impossible to see them in their entirety. You imagine what it would be like to climb upon their limbs, and then you do, walking along a downed tree, your arms outstretched. You wonder what it would have been like to see it fall. You wonder just how long ago it happened. And you wonder how long it would have been here, the biggest bench you have ever seen. In any deep forest, you feel obligated to whisper, as if you are in a place of worship. It is the spring in the heart of the Olympics rainforest, and moss clings to every surface as if hiding a secret, the sound of water rushing through a stream relaxes you and clears your mind.

A blanket of pine needles cushions each step, the Earth springing back beneath your feet like a trampoline.  The best of happiness is mine, the power and the will to be useful. Your soul sleeps; the shock is yet to be given which shall awaken it. We must not soar too far above the Earth, while she offers us the rich treasures of her fruit trees and vines. It is impossible to capture a forest in two dimensions. Artists and scientists deal with the World, but they differ in their intellectual attitudes and in the techniques they use to recognize and describe objects, persons, and events. Artists focus their attention on private experiences, scientists on the generic aspects of nature. This difference in attitudes is so fundamental that the aspects of the World with which science and art are respectively concerned have little in common. Divine grace, working a miracle, or nest to a miracle, can only change a bad heart. What I would not do for kindness, I would not do for money. Our hearts warm more to those we have been kind to, than to those who have been kind to us. He wants a heart: and if he does, he wants everything. Let us not even the faulty have cause to complain of unkindness from us. One can always be kind to people who one cares nothing. It is sometimes a happiness to be ignorant of our destiny. There is no such thing as happiness without alloy.

Beauty comes from Love

His great charm was attentiveness. Experience had not yet taken away that freshness of the spirit which is the charm of the body. I have yet to see any problem, however complicated, which, when I looked at it the right way, did not become still more complicated. I know that you believe you understand what you think I said. However, I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

488

Most of the concepts we use in thinking involve words. Word is a symbol that we agree will represent a concept or an idea. However, we must agree on the same meaning for a given word. Words, like eyeglasses, blur everything that they do not make more clear. Nature’s laws affirm instead of prohibiting. If you violate her laws you are your own prosecuting attorney, judge, jury, and hang man.

2012_bmw_i8_concept_spyder_06_1-0402

The machine society, especially through it exploding mass civilization, has confused people’s sense of reality and personal identity. There is a confused blur between mass media, news, drama, and live experience. Existence has increasingly become a spectator sport. Tragedy may be your choice, but it will certainly appear that comedy chooses you. However, what were the glories of the Sun, if we knew not the gloom of darkness?

425

Much more does affliction demand our love when it proceeds from compassion for another’s woes. To take a thorn out of one’s friend’s foot, to put it into one’s own. Praise when closed with an exception, has been found the most successful means of blasting the credit of the most deserving. Let your actions praise you. A charm must be accompanied by a strong wish on the part of the charmer that it may succeed.

035

I find him charming. He atones for being occasionally somewhat overdressed by being always absolutely over educated. Really beautiful things cannot go out. We are all equal in beauty, there would be no beauty, for beauty is only by comparison. There is no way of joining the past with the present, and there is no difference between what is a moment past and what is eternally past.

A Real Passion is too Mighty for Words

Capture23

Passions expands a man’s mind like double up. He grows as big as himself. His hair rises on his head, and his chest heaves. Will rules give a man passion? Will a man that feels stand in need of rules? In the voyage of life, passion is the tempest, love the gentle gale. No misery can equal the struggles of a virtuous mind wishing to act in a manner becoming its own dignity, yet carried by the passions to do otherwise, this is the poetry of passion.

Capture1

Passion seemed to be much discontented but Patience was very quiet. Our passions are but loose casuists, and what is worse, our reason is often too bribed over to their side; in which case we fall like a client sold by his attorney, or a prince murdered by his guards. Passions are unconsequential. Violet passions seldom last long, and those of their subject least of any.

Capture7

That sweet fury, that rage of active delight which crowns the enjoyments of a mutual love passion is to inspire so serious as lust, it is my destiny. When guilty passion is let loose, who shall name its boundaries? Is not guilty passion as the flame, or the torrent? Passion seemed not only to do wrong and violence to the memory of the dead, but to be infected by death, and to droop and decline beside it. All the living knaves and liars in the World were nothing to the honesty and truth of one true friend.

Capture787

There is no such passions in human nature as the passion for gravy among commercial gentlemen. This majesty of passion is possessed by nearly every man once in his life, but it usually an attribute of youth and conduces to the first successful mating. The first passion may me but the enthusiasm of discover. Our passions do not like apart in locked chambers, but, dressed in their small wardrobe of notions, bring their provisions to a common table and mess together, feeding out of the common store according to their appetite.

Capture8

There were passions at war in Ryan to have made a tragedy, if tragedies were made by passion only. Of all passions there is not against which we should so strongly fortify ourselves as love. Passions operate differently on the human mind, as hardship on the body, in proportion to the strength or weakness, soundness or pain, of one and the other.

Capturefgg

The little god passion lay lurking in his heart, though anger and disdain so hoodwinked him, that he could not see them. Passions, the managers and directors of the theatre of Nature, as no smoke ariseth where no coal is kindled, so without cause of affection the passion is easy to be cured. What has passion to do with knowledge?

Capture3

The corpses of those antiquated fitful passions which had lain inanimate amid the lines of his face ever since his reformation seemed to wake and come together as in resurrection. Honesty and wisdom are such a delightful passion, at another person’s expense. How icy cold is the heart, when the devour, the wild ecstasy of passion, has faded away, and sunk down among the dead ashes of the fire that blazed so fiercely, and was fed by the very substance of its life!

Capture2

The music, the painting, the poetry of the passions, is the property of everyone who has heart to be moved. If passion is to invade, surely science must evacuate. Passion has the sensitiveness of fever, and is as cruelly chilled by a tepid air. The tenacity of true passion is terrible. It will stand against the hosts of Heaven, the Universe’s great array of facts, rather than surrender its aim, and must be crushed before it will succumb, sent to the lowest pit.

Honest passions has an instinct that can be safer than conscious wisdom. Passion thinks willfully when it thinks at all. In France, passion is a virtue.  In order to have a due command of our passions, it is necessary to subject them to early obedience. Passion, in its undue influence, produces weakness as well as injustice.

Labor Day 064

A person who has any over ruling passion will compound by giving up twenty secondary or under satisfactions, though more laudable ones, in order to have that gratified. My predominant passion is love, not gold. Many are never angry at bottom for being disobeyed through excess of love. They like an uncontrollable passion. Ill will and passion are dreadful misrepresenters.

Some one passion predominating in every human breast breaks through principle and controls us all. Is not passion a universally allowed extenuator of violence? A rake in passion is not a rake in love. When a person can rave, the passion is not dangerous. The passions are intended for our servants, not our masters, and we have, within us, a power of controlling them, which it is the duty and the business of our lives to exert.

Hi 036

Passion has eyes, as far seeing in the dark as love’s. How little do they know human nature who think they and say to passion so far shalt thou go, and no further! The language of passion is almost always pure as well as vehement. It is better that a man should be the servant of a kind master than the slave of his own wild passion.

Passions yield at length to Reason’s strokes. Passion acts upon the human mind in a ratio compounded of the acuteness of sense and constitutional heat. When a man gives himself up to the government of ruling passion, or, in other words, when his hobby horse grows headstrong, farewell cool reason and fair discretion! There is no passion so serious as lust. To inspire hopeless passion is my destiny.

Beauty Unadorned is Adored the Most

Can anyone paint the living, breathing soul of a very young and beautiful person? No! If a man had the genius to do so, the very enthusiasm which always attends it would throw him into a very unpainter like raptures at the sight of such a one. Why is beauty given us, unless it be like sunlight to bless a gladden World? Beauty is given to remind us that the soul should be kept as fair and perfect in its proportions as the temple in which it dwells. The woman who first gives life, light, and form to our shadowy conceptions of beauty, fills a void in our spiritual nature that has remained unknown to us till she appeared. The mystery which underlies the beauty of a women is never raised above the reach of all expressions until it has claimed kindred with the deeper mystery in our own souls. Nothing in nature is there required to make a woman handsome, but eyes. I have the money and want the beauty; but as times go now, the first will do, so I have the better of my neighbors. Guard against the mischiefs which attend an early knowledge of your own beauty. If a young woman once thinks herself handsome, she never doubts the truth of any man that tells her he is in love with her. Beauty’s a portion, and good humor with it is a double portion. Cheerfulness and content are great beautifiers, and are famous preservers of youthful looks. Alas! How few of Nature’s faces are left alone to gladden us with their beauty!

All beauty is sexless in the eyes of the artist at his work. There are various orders of beauty, causing men to make fools of themselves in various styles, from the desperate to the sheepish; but there is one order of beauty which seems made to turn the heads not only of men, but of all intelligent mammals, even of women. It is a beauty like that of kittens, or very small downy ducks making gentle rippling noises with their soft bills, or babies just beginning to toddle and to engage in conscious mischief, a beauty with which you can never be angry, but that you feel ready to crush for inability to comprehend the state of mind into which it throws you. Human feeling is like the mighty rivers that bless the Earth: it does not wait for beauty, it flows with resistless force and brings beauty with it. All honor and reverence to the divine of form! Let us cultivate it to the utmost in men, women, and children, it our gardens and in our houses. However, let us love that other beauty too, which lies in no secret of proportion, but in the secret of deep human sympathy. The beauty of a lovely woman is like music. That kind of beauty which seems to be thrown into relief by poor dress, plainness has its peculiar temptations and vices quite as much as beauty. She did not see why women were to be told with a simper that they were beautiful, any more than old men were to be told that they were venerable.

Much beauty will go long way with the judge and the jury. The vast power of exquisite beauty, which nothing can almost add to or diminish, is eternal. To withdraw admiration from exquisite beauty, or to feel no delight in gazing at it, is as impossible as to feel no warmth from the most scorching rays of the Sun. She was so far from regretting want of beauty, that she never mentioned that perfection without contempt. If thou hast seen things of beauty without knowing what a beauty is, thou hast no eyes; if without feeling its power, thou hast no heart. Fine girls are spoiled by foolish mothers, who are continually trumpeting beauty in their ears without taking any care of their principles and dispositions. Beauty is like lighting, lovely, but destructive. Perhaps to a woman it is almost as dreadful to think of losing beauty as of losing reputation. It is a woman’s duty to be as beautiful as she can. A sensible woman would rather lose her wits then her beauty. There never was a woman that step handsomer in her shoes than Aaliyah did. Descriptions of beauty are never satisfactory. The beauty and glory of a great picture are confined within itself. It is a woeful thing, a sad necessity, that any Christian soul should pass from Earth without once seeing an antique painted window, with the bright Italian sunshine glowing through it. Her beauty shone out and made a halo of the misfortune and ignominy in which she was enveloped.
