Livingstone and the Two Witnesses

These documents, inscribed on papyrus in hieratic script, were essentially collections of remedies written for the medical practitioner. Along with the specific treatments, they also included spells and incantations, indicating the close link between magic and medicine.

161

The various medications were identified by a heading, often in red, which outlined its use and described the symptoms of the complaint, its treatment and the way in which the remedy was to be administered. The example is from the Chester Beatty papyrus which deals with digestive problems.

349

The incantations were combined with the administration of the remedy, so that if the latter roved ineffectual, the help of the gods was at hand. Deciphering many of the text has been difficult because of the inability to identify both the ailments and the ingredients used in the cures.

Because of the limited knowledge of anatomy, surgery did not go beyond an elementary level, and no internal surgery was undertaken. Most of the medical instruments found in tombs or depicted on temple reliefs were used to treat injuries or fractures, which were possibly the result of accidents incurred by workers on the pharaohs’’ monumental building sites. Other implements were used for gynecological problems and in childbirth, both of which were treated extensively in the medical papyri.

A man in pain, this bronze statuette of a sick man racked with pain dates from the New Kingdom (1550 to 1069 Before Christ). Although Egyptian physicians were generally unable to say what caused illness, they attempted to treat its symptoms. Medical text dating back to about 1500 Before Christ suggested dill in a pain killing mixture based on wine mixed with a small quantity of raisins and dates. The concoction was boiled and strained before being taken for four days. Dill also appears in an ointment to relieve headache, and in a poultice for neck pain.

Surgical instruments, the temple of Sobek and Hareris at Kon Ombo in Upper Egpyt, near modern Aswan, has provide important evidence about Ancient Egyptian surgery. This relief from the enclosure wall, which deptics commonly used surgical instruments, is from the Roman period. There are clear foundations for the vampire in the ancient World, and it is impossible to prove when the first arose.

333

There are suggestions that the vampire was born out of sorcery in ancient Egypt, a demon summoned into the World from some other. Some vampires are said to be able to turn into bats or wolves; other cannot. Some are said no to cast reflection, but others do. Holy water and sunlight are said to repel or kill some vampires, but not others.

328

One of the universal characteristic is the draining of a vital bodily fluid, typically blood. One of the reasons that vampires make such successful literary figures is that they have a rich and varied history and folklore. Writers can play with the rules while adding, subtracting or changing them to fit whatever story they have in mind.

330

Finding a vampire is not always easy. In one Romanian legend you will need a 7 year old boy and a white horse. The boy should be dressed in white, placed upon the horse, and the pair set loose in a graveyard at midday. Watch the horse wander around, and whichever grave is nearest the horse when it finally stops is a vampire’s grave, or it might just have something edible nearby; take your pick.

325

Interest and belief in revenants surged in the middle ages. Meteors have been known, of course, since the dawn of time, from the moment humans turned their eyes to the sky. The first systematic observations date about 2000 Before Christ (BC) and were recorded in Korea and China.

329

Sporadic mentions are found in various Chinese chronicals. For example, in 36 After Death (AD), we find the first reference to the Perseid meteor shower: “More than 100 meteors were seen darting about in the morning hours.” The first mention of the Eta Aquarid meteors dates to 466: “Countless meteors, great and small, speared toward the west.” In records from 585l a reference to the Orionids is found: “Hundreds of meteors scattered in every direction”; in 687, the Lyrids: “Stars fell like rain from the sky”; and in 1002, the Leonids: “Lots of little stars fell.”

263

The Leonids were also referred to in Arab chronicles. For example, in mid-October of 902: “An infinite number of stars was seen during the night, scattering like rain right and left, and that year came to be known as the year of the stars.” And in 1202: “During the night of Saturday, in the last day of Muharram, the stars…flew at one other like a swarm of grasshoppers.”

344

References to various events are found in historical European sources. The Anglo Saxon Chronicle records that in 1095, “at Easter, on the night of Saint Ambrose and for most of the night, a giant host of stars seemed to fall from the sky so frequent that no one as able to count them.” There is a reference to the Perseids’ activity in 1243 in Matthew Paris’s Historia Anglorum: “On 26 July 1095, on a perfectly clear night, brilliant stars were seen falling, scattering here and there in a manner so copious that if they had been real stars, none would be left in the sky.”  On 3 August 1492, Christopher Columbus and his crew set sail from Spain in three ships: The Nine, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. On 12 October 1492, the ships made landfall, not in Asia, as Columbus assumed, but one of the Bahamian islands. For months, Columbus sailed from island to island in what we now know as the Caribbean, looking for the pearls, precious stones of gold, silver, spices, and other objects and merchandise whatsoever that he had promised to his Spanish patrons, but he did not find much.

334

In modern times, references to brilliant fireballs are fairly frequently, starting with extremely famous one of 7 November 1492, when a huge meteorite weighing 50 kilograms fell bear the Alsatian town of Ensisheim. It was observed and painted by Albrecht Durer.  The explorer Christopher Columbus made four trips across the Atlantic Ocean from Spain: in 1492, 1493, 1498, and 1502, which is impressive because even one trip was unheard of, most others went missing.

Probably no legendary sea monster was as horrifying as the Kraken. According to stories this huge, many armed, creature could reach as high as the top of a sailing ship’s main mast. A kraken would attack a ship by wrapping their arms around the hull and capsizing it. The crew would drown or be eaten by the monster. What is amazing about the kraken stories is that, of all the sea monster tales we have, we have the best evidence that this creature was based on something real.

201

Tales of a huge, many armed, headed or horned sea creatures exist from ancient times. The Greek legend of the Scylla, a monster with six heads that Odysseus must sail past during his travels, is an example of this tradition.

He was determined to find a direct water route west from Europe to Asian, but never dud. Instead, he accidentally stumbled upon the Americas. Though he did not really discover the New World, millions of people already lived there, his journeys marked the beginning of centuries of transatlantic conquest and colonization.

Vampire, Burial, and Death: In March 1493, Columbus returned to Spain leaving 40 men behind, in a makeshift settlement, on Hispaniola (present day Haiti and the Dominican Republic). Folklore and Reality noted that centuries ago, often potential revenants can be identified at birth, usually by some abnormality, some defect, as when a child is born with teeth. Similarly suspicious are children born with an extra nipple (in Romania, for example): with a lack of cartilage in the nose, incomplete spine, or a split lower lip (in Russia)…when a child is born with a red caul, or amniotic membrane, covering its head, this was regarded the presumptive evidence that it is destined to return from the dead.” Such minor deformities were looked upon as evil omens, at the time.

The belief in vampires stems from superstition and mistaken assumptions about postmortem decay. The first recorded accounts of vampires follow a consistent pattern: Some unexplained misfortune would befall a person, family or town, perhaps a drought dried up crops, or an infectious disease struck. Before science could explain weather patterns and germ theory, any bad event for which there was not an obvious cause might be blamed on a vampire. Vampires were one easy answer to the antiquated question of why bad things happen to good people.

Pretty Colors 223

Villagers combined their belief that something had cursed them with fear of the dead, and concluded that perhaps the recently deceased might be responsible, having come back from the graves with evil intent. Graves were unearthed, and surprised villagers often mistook ordinary decomposition process for supernatural phenomenon. For example, though laypeople might assume that the body would decompose immediately, if the coffin is well sealed and buried in winter, putrefaction might be delayed by weeks or months; intentional decomposition creates bloating which can force blood up into the mouth, making it look like a dead body has recently sucked blood. These processes are well understood by modern doctors and morticians, but in medieval Europe were taken as unmistakable signs that vampires were real and existed among them.

Suspecting that Randolph was a vampire, gravediggers shoved a rock into his skull to prevent him from chewing through his shroud and infecting others with the plague reported anthropologist Matteo Borrini of the University of Florence. Archaeologist found two skeletons with iron rods through their chests; the pair believed to have been accused vampires. However, blood drinking is toxic because it is so iron rich in iron and because the human body has difficulty excreting excess iron anyone who consumes blood regularly runs a real risk of haemochromatosis (iron overdose), which can cause a wide variety of disease and problems, including liver and nervous system damage. I have loved you, says the LORD. On the long voyage of our life, every step is a test. However, making clear of one’s direction and aim, knowing one’s potentiality and stepping forward resolutely are more important. He was doctrinally convinced that there was a total absence of merit in himself; but that doctrinal conviction may be held without pain when the sense of demerit does not take a distinct shape in memory and revive the tingling of shame or the pang of remorse.

There are many monuments in Rome as there have been emperors, consuls, orators, conquerors, famous painters or players in Rome. Till this day no a Roman will kill a rat, but he will have some registered remembrance of it. What a god is memory, to keep in life, to endow with an unslumbering vitality beyond that of our own nature, its unconscious company, the things that seem only born for its enjoyment. I the LORD do not change. My name is Legion for we are many. This is what the kingdom of God is like. My memory is a life beyond birth; my memory, my library of the Vatican, its alcoves all endless perspectives, eve tinted by cross lights from Middle Age oriels.

210

These tales often refer to a creature so big that it is mistaken for an island or series of islands. Even as late as 1752, when the Bishop of Bergen, Erik Ludvigsen Pontoppidan, wrote his The Natural History of Norway he described the kraken as “incontestably the largest Sea monster in the world” with a width of one and a half miles. The Bishop also noted that the animal had starfish type protuberances: “It seems these are the creature’s arms, and, it is said, if they were to lay hold of the largest man-of-war, they would pull it down to the bottom.” Despite this Pontoppidan says that the most danger the kraken represented to ships came from the disturbance it made as it came to the surface or whirlpool as created as it descended below. Because fish were attracted to the vicinity of the kraken, he also notes, Norwegian fishermen would often fish over the creature, despise the risk to their ship and their lives.

242

Later Kraken stories bring the creature down to a smaller, but still monstrous, size. Though early descriptions of the animal give a more crab-like appearance, by the 18th century it started showing up in drawings as a giant, many armed cephalopod (like an octopus or squid). In 1802 the French scientist Pierre Denys de Montfort stated in his book on the natural history of mollusks that the creature encountered by Norwegian sailors was the kracken octopus. Montfort even suggested that there was even a larger type of octopus than this, the colossal octopus that had been known to attack sailing vessels.

th (4)

The Kraken of legend is probably what we know today as the giant squid. While a colossal octopus might also fit the description, the squid is thought to be much more aggressive and more likely to come to the surface where it might be seen by man. Though giant squids are considerably less then a mile and a half across, some are thought to be large enough to wrestle with a whale. On at least three occasions in the 1930’s they reportedly attacked a ship. Then I saw another beat, coming out of the Earth.

Therefore, when rejoice, you Heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the Earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you. He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.

House of the Living

Little that I have seen is forgotten. I am the close of many weary days, but there is not one among them all that I could wish to overlook. The great remembrance by which that time is marked in my mind seem to have swallowed up all lesser recollections, and to exist alone. In theory, the pharaoh, as the high priest of every cult, was the only person permitted to worship the gods. However, even the king could not be in more than one sanctuary at the same time, and priests were required for the daily rituals in the temples. Every city in Egypt honoured its own god, but the importance of the deity, and this the clergy at its service, depended on the rank of the city. At the summit was the chief priest, or the first prophet, effectively the pharaoh’s person representative, and a few high-ranking priests who sponsored him. As the only officials permitted to approach the god’s statue enclosed in the sanctuary, these priests wielded considerable power, both religious and secular, controlling the wealth in the temple’s treasury and the lands of its estates.

The censored both the lector priests, who wrote the spiritual accords and transcribed the sanctified scripts in the House of Life in the sanctuary developments, and the more numerous were priests, who approved ready a range of undertakings, from purifying the testament to bringing the god’s consecrated vessel. The golden cup was like his vase, a sacred artefact of temple ritual. May of its exhibits of the physical sciences and allied technology are visitor operated, and it holds demonstrations, workshops, seminars for gifted students, and courses for adults and teachers. The museum works closely with the Oakland School District in innovate programs that recently have involved six graders from paired schools of varied racial and socioeconomic backgrounds, science enrichment classes for fifth and sixth grade students, and the Cosumnes River College “School with Walls” for high school students that uses also the Winchester Mansions, Academy of Natural Sciences, Central Library, and other cultural organization. Thus the Science Museum and Planetarium concentrate on explaining contemporary technology to a broad and varied popular audience.

The center, sometimes described as a push button Science Adventureland, treats not only physical science and technology, but also natural history, medicine, music, and the theater, and operates an arboretum and an aquarium. It enjoys an annual attendance exceeding 1.2 million and can accommodate 3,000 schoolchildren and 50 school buses per day. In addition to general centers of science, technology and paranormal studies, there are many museums closely related to a single industry or company like Harris Corporation. European example, include the Stora Kopparbergwerks Museum at Falun, Sweden (this copper company going back to the eleventh century, with a museum open to the public since 1922); the Pilkington Glass Museum at Saint Helens, United Kingdom (1964), and the Phillippe Evoluon at Eidhoven, Netherlands (1967). The last is a board based technical museum at the Philips Company erected at its headquarters at a cost of $8 million, the amount accumulated when the company did not exhibit at three World’s fairs.

Two similar high grade American technical museums are the Corning Glass Center (1951) at Corning, New York, and the Hagley Museum (1952) at Wilmington, Delaware, broader than but closely connected with Du Pont Company history. The short histories of some of the leading technical museums just outlined make clear an underlying difficulty in this area. Harris, Randolph has supplied generous operating funds of more than $5 million yearly. At Lohr’s death in 1968, MacMaster succeeded him as president. Clearly, the museum, was a tremendous success with the public, exceeding a million attendance in 1942 and now reaching 3.2 million.

The museum’s emphasis is strongly upon education, and it conducts tours and gives scientific demonstrations. Among the experimental programs it offers to the 400,000 schoolchildren in classes that visit it annually are plays about Randolph Harris, Galileo, Thomas Edison, William Winchester, and Daniel Hale Williams, a black surgeon. Our knowledge of Ancient Egyptian medicine comes essentially from medical papyri and a number of tomb and temple decorations. The Ebers papyrus and the Edwin Smith papyrus, both named after the collectors of the documents, are the most important and date from the beginning of the new kingdom (1550 to 1069 Before Christ). Having observed various comets, among them Great Comet of 1533, Apianus, along with Regiomontanus, recognized the antisolor nature of comets’ tails. The concept is very well depicted here for Halley’s Comet during its 1531 visit in drawings taken from Apianus’s Astronomicum Caesareum (Ingolstadt, 1568). 13 November 1577, a comet as bright as the moon appeared. It was certainly bright than Venus. It was visible even through clouds, just like the moon, and it displayed a tail as long as 75 degrees.

Late in the afternoon, Denmark’s Tycho Brahe, then 31-year-old and not yet the greatest astronomical observer or all time, was going fishing near his observatory at Uraniborg when he saw an extremely bright object which could have been Venus, but he knew that the beautiful planet was a morning start during that first period. After sunset, the star revealed itself for what it was, an extremely bright comet with a tail more than 20 degrees long. Though a lone soul by nature, I still feel very happy to have your company. After several years of studying together, I can never forget your fervent heart. Because of you, I no longer feel lonely; and because of me, our classmates all come to like you. This friendship: it witnessed cries and laughs, quarrels, and hubbubs in the past. Now only sweet memory remains. I love memory. I prize her as my best friend. Melancholy, only rich in unfortunate remembrances, a seasonable fit of illness is an excellent medicine for the turbulence of passion. My memory is a life beyond birth; my memory, my library of the Vatican, its alcoves all endless perspectives, eve tinted by cross light from Middle Age oriels. You come in by yourselves without is direction, and shall go out by yourselves without his mercy.

If repentance for ill actions calls for mercy, has not repentance for ill intentions a yet higher claim? Lord, my God Horus, I have heard you are my father, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. My God Horus came from, Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran, and his glory covered the Heavens and his praise filled the Earth. His splendor was like the Sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden. Plague went before him; pestilence followed his steps. He stood, and shook the Earth; he looked, and made the nations trembled. The ancient mountains crumbled and the antiquated hills collapsed. His ways are eternal. The Ancient Egyptians frequently suffered eye complaints due to their constant exposure to intense sunlight, sand, and dusts. Blindness was also common, as this relief from Tell el Amarna of blind temple musician shows. A great many eye remedies appear in the medical papyri. Bat’s blood, for example, was used to treat eyes because it was believed that this creature’s night vision could be transmitted through its blood. However, some problems of the retina were more effectively treated with ox liver, which contains vitamin A; today, liver extract is stilled used to cure eye problems associated with this vitamin deficiency. The comet was seen all across Europe and produced an unprecedented theoretical debate. Were you angry with the rivers, O Lord?

Was your wrath against the streams? Did you rage against the sea when your rode with your horses and your victorious chariots? You uncovered your bow, you called for many arrows. You split the Earth with rivers; the mountains saw you and withered. Torrents of water swept by; the deep roared and lifted its waves on high. Sun and moon stood still in the Heavens. Only five years earlier, Tycho, the terrible Dane, has observed a new star in Cassiopedia that, from parallax measurements, clearly seemed to belong to the celestial sphere. The Aristotelian Universe was vacillating; it was no longer true that the Heavens were immutable. From precise parallax measurements taken on the comet, Tycho calculated that it was at least six times farther away than the Moon. Though less accurate, parallax measurements were also obtained by other famous astronomers of the time, including Mastlin, Kepler’s teacher, and they all pointed in the same direction. They contradicted the Aristotelian belief in comets as sublunar phenomena and helped develop their statues as Heavenly bodies. If a person defiled by contact with a dead body touches one of these things, does it become defiled? Now give a careful thought to this from this day on, consider how things were before one stone was laid on another in the Lord’s temple.

When anyone came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten. When anyone went to a wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were only twenty. I stuck all the work of your hands with blight, mildew and hail, yet you did not turn to me, declares the Lord. From this say of the ninth month, give careful thought to the day when the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid. Give careful thought: Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit. He Lord says he will shake the Heavens and Earth. He will overthrow royal thrones and shatter the power of the foreign kingdoms. He will overthrow chariots and their drivers; horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother. One that day, declares the LROD Almighty, I will take you, my son, and I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you. In a World where hundreds of millions of human beings still go hungry and the global recession had left nothing all but the wealthiest fearing for their future. The last ship, TWC, dimension revealed the new trailer, hot for regression. The last 10,000 years, the planet started to cool off, but 5,000 years ago, huge sea inside changes the temperature, you can watch below.

Though these just words, it can sustain your friendship. May the handshake and the hearts in friendship be kept tighter and tighter! Stars will kindle your heart, and many on your side, please accept our compliment.

Happy Friday! 015

There will always be something worth living for while there are shimmery afternoons. What a small thing it is sometimes that makes life’s kiss sweeter than a life’s only life.

126

Lives are run in different lengths, and nobody can say what is the matter with some folks, only that their thread’s run out; there is more on one spool and less on another.

In a novel, people’s heart break, a and they die, and that is the end of it; and is a story this is very convenient.

133

However, it real life we do not die when all that makes life bright dies to us. Are there not there little chapters in everybody’s life, that seems to be nothing, and yet effect all the rest of the history?

128

Life without moral purpose is but a passing spectre, and our immortality lies in our religious life. Life is a continual hypnotism; and the thoughts of others reach us from every side, determining in some measure our actions.

Here is what you asked for 001

Our lives sun in grooves; we get into one and we follow it out to the end. It is not possible for all things to be well, unless all men were good.

Father 105

The original unsophisticated man was by no means constructive. He lived in the open air, under a tree, the tree of life.

Life is a school and the lesson is never done. Those who want the fewest Earthly blessings most regret that they want any. A handful of a good life, however, is better than a whole bushel of learning. He that lives well, lives long.

Labor Day 066

He that lives ill one year, will sorrow for seven. The true picture of life as it is, if it could be adequately painted, would show men what they are, and how they might rise, not, indeed, to perfection, but one step first, and then another on a ladder.

134

I would not enter into learned disputes, for which I am rarely qualified; but there is a degree of knowledge very compatible with their duties; therefore not unbecoming them, and necessary to make them fit companions for men of sense: a character in which they will always be found more useful than that of a plaything, the amusement of an idle hour.

To have a sullied memory is a perpetual bane. If any one faculty of our nature may be called more wonderful than the rest, I do think it is memory.

Life shot, and the art of healing tedious! Whether medicine is a science, or only an empirical method of getting a living out of the ignorance of the human race, Ruth found before her first term was over, at the medical school, that there were other thing she needed to know, quite as much as that which is taught in the medical books, and that she could never satisfy her aspirations without more general culture.

At the same time as I was building this hunting lodge on a palatial scale, Ryan was also transforming another hunting lodge, nearer Paris, into what was unquestionably a palace: Fontainebleau.

He pulled down most of the original medieval fort, save for the keep, rebuilt the Cour ovale, laid out the present main courtyard, and linked the two with the long gallery still known as La Glaerie de Francois I.

The Porte doree, from which stretches the long avenue into the vast hunting forest, and the Cour ovale staircase are architectural examples of the developing understanding of Italian Renaissance theory.

Francois I’s chief contribution to the magnificence of Fontainebleau was the interior, where he set a squadron of Italian artists and craftsmen, led by Primaticcio and Rosso Fiorentino, to the task of creating what he called the second Rome.

Every available space was filled with frescoes, stucco and marble. Francois’s successors carried on work at Fonainebleau: Henri II completed the ballroom to the designs of de L’Orme; Charles IX placed the plaster cast of the bronze horse in the Basse Cour ( which later became known as the Cour de Cheval blanc) and Henri IIII doubled the size of the palace.

In 374, we have the first truly spectacular return of Halley’s Comet. On that visit, thanks to its extreme proximity to Earth, it developed a 100 degree tail and exceeded the magnitude of Jupiter (negative 3), the brightest body in the sky after the Sun, Moon, and Venus.

Honor change Manners

th (3)

Honor is a creature of the World’s making, and the World hath the’ power of a creator over it, and may govern and direct it as they please. My honor is my own keeping, beyond the reach of all mankind. Hospitality is one of the first Christian duties. Hope is from within, and not from without, man himself must work out his own salvation. As harps in the wind, dreamers respond to every breath of fancy, voicing in their moods all the ebb and flow of the ideal.

vre

The darker the inexperience, the more praise to the erudite who dispels it; the deeper the partiality, more fame to the courage which brave it, perhaps it is better to wake up, even to suffer, rather than to remain a dupe to illusions all one’s life. What we call misconceptions are often wider vision of past and present realities, a movement of a man’s soul with the larger sweep of the World’s forces.

Words are gas till you condense them into pictures. Imagination is the child of inherited and living impressions. To glory in a prophetic vision of knowledge covering the Earth is easier exercise of believing imagination than to see its beginning in newspaper placards, staring at you from a bridge beyond the cornfields; and it might well happen to most of us dainty people that we were in the thick of the battle of Armageddon without being aware of anything more than the annoyance of a little explosive smoke and struggling on the ground immediately about us.

th (7)

Many men have been praised as vividly imaginative on the strength of their profuseness in indifferent drawing or cheap narration: reports of very poor talk going on in distant orbs; or portraits of Lucifer coming down on his bad errands as a large ugly man with bat’s wings and spurts of phosphorescence; or exaggerations of wantonness that seem to reflect life in a diseased dream.

th (10)

The nets woven by the human imagination, although they are composed of the smallest materials, are perhaps full as difficult to be broken as the strongest real bonds. Masquerades are the produce of a strange excess of fancy, an overheated imagination set to work by the wild desire of amusement.  So far as we have faith in our fairy tales we are none the worse.

th (12)

Your imagination prevails over your skill, and you tell rather what you wish than what you know. I am thinking of asking if you are healthy in the distance and listening to your brisk pace. I wish you are happy forever! I hope you will not change too much. Life is a love that no one regrets year after year. A ray of warm light, lively lights and warmest wishes shed golden light over the sea that mirrors the evening clouds, and the footprints on the beach record our difficult parting. I wish you could return and rise as the sun from the sea.

th (8)

Although you are now on the other side of the Earth, it does not necessarily mean that we are remote from each other as now the World has become a village: we can chat on the Internet, and see each other on the visual phone. You may set off by airplane, in the morning, and be guest at my home at noon. You always fly like a comet away and back in the golden sunlight. My friend, please look at the white cloud that is my heartfelt longing.

167

He who has nothing external that can divert hi must find pleasure in his own thoughts, and must conceive himself what he is not, for who is pleased with what he is? Let us learn to have the strength of confidence, the strength that will enable us to live forever in the aspiration for the better, and to return in act from the virtual World, but still we need that aspiration. Imagination can surpass the wonders of art, but those of nature leave all imagination far behind.

352

All the great books in the World are but mutilated shadowings forth of invisible and eternally unemobodied images of the soul. Gentlemen of unpracticed imaginative capacity cannot vision for themselves exactly what they would, being unable to exercise authority over the proportions and the hues of the objects they conceive, which are very much at the mercy of their sportive caprices.

383

Undaunted persistence may subdue whatever peak in the World. Please cheer up and never be a coward when facing the unpleasant, but start from scratch to have a new lease on life. The people who render the World prosperous are those who are courageous in life to try to solve the new problems in life. My God, may you be one of them. The World likes a tender little boat carries love, truth, kindness, and beauty to life. Embrace the World that belongs to you. May you be young and beautiful forever.

175

What a magnificent cause to strive for the happiness of mankind. May we strive forever this great goal. I have collected everything beautiful in nature and put them in a letter to deliver to you and hidden all the sweet words in the buds to pour out at the moment of the reunion. May your success and progress like sunrise shine on your forever! Wherever we stay, we have kept correspondence. Mountains and rivers cannot keep us from sharing regards and compliments , wishing each other happiness and success year after year.

156

Beautiful as it is, our treasure island, I feel sometimes, is like a lonely boat drifting on the sea. The true picture of life as it is, if it could be adequately painted, would show men what they are, and how they might rise, not, indeed, to perfection, but one step first, and then another on the ladder. A handful of good life is better than a whole bushel of learning. He that lives well lives long. No matter where you are fortune and mirth will be with your every minute.

Learning the Eight Parts of Speech Series I

Educations and behavior put all upon a level. Words are often named according to how they are used in sentences. These names for the words are called their parts of speech. The eight parts of speech in the King’s English are: Nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections.

Nouns are the names of persons, places, things, feelings, or ideas. For example, love is not a tangible thing that can be seen or held, but clearly it exists, so it is also a noun. Nouns usually answer the questions who or what.

Nouns can be divided into two main categories: proper nouns and common nouns. Proper nouns are the names of people or places that are capitalized (Cosumnes River College, Brice Harris, etc). Common nouns are names that do not require capitalization (book, chair, school, etc).

Verb is a word that describes action or a state of being. The second part of this definition is important, as many believe that verbs are always action words that can be visualized. This is true of action verbs: crawl, walk, run, play, jump, sing, scream, etc.

However, there are also linking verbs, and these types of verbs do not express action; instead, they express identity, classification, or existence. (The following are the most common linking verbs: is, am, was, were, are, and verb phrases ending in be, been, being.)

Verbs often change their form as different endings are added to them. These endings are changed to show a verb’s relationship to time. This is referred to as verb tense.

Finding the Subjects and Verbs

The most important words in sentences are those that make up its independent clauses, the subject and the verb. When you write a sentence, you write about something or someone. That is the subject. Then you write what the subject does or is. That is the verb.

Lighting strikes.

The word Lightning is the something you are writing about. It is the subject. Strikes tells what the subject does. It shows action in the sentence. It is the verb. However, most sentences do not include only two words—the subject and the verb. Yet, these two words still make up the core of the sentence even if other words and phrases are included with them.

Lightning strikes back and forth from the clouds to the ground very quickly.

Often lightning strikes people on golf courses or in boats.

When many words appear in sentences, the subject and verb can be hard to find. Because the verb often shows action, it is easier to spot than the subject. Therefore, always look for it first. For example, in the sentence:

The neighborhood cat folded its paws under its chest.

Picture 048

Which word shows the action? Folded. It is the verb. Now ask yourself who or what folded? Cat. It is the subject.

Study the following sentences until you understand how to pick out subjects and verbs.

Tomorrow our school celebrates its one-year anniversary. (Which word shows the action? Celebrates. It is the verb. Who or what celebrates? School. It is the subject.)

The team members ate several boxes of chocolates. (Which word shows action? Ate. Who or what ate? Members ate.) So the verb is ate. The subject is members.

Internet users crowd the popular services. (Which word shows the action? Crowd. Who or what crowd? (Users crowd.) So users is the subject and Crowd is the verb,

Often the verb does not show action, but merely tells what the subject is or was. Learn to spot such verbs—is, am, are, was, were, seems, feels, appears, becomes, looks, and so forth.

William Winchester is the best father and actor in the world. (First spot the verb is. Then ask who or what us? William Winchester is.) So is equals the verb and William Winchester equals the subject.

Every history has one quality in common with eternity. Begin where you will, there is always a beginning back of the beginning.

God, like planets, has both a visible and invisible history. The growing good of the World is partly dependent on unhistoric acts. The best teachers, Nature and Love.

Wonders are no Wonders and the Wonderful

The caverns of my mind are open, and they will not close. He whose treasure is in his mind is richer than the walking mine, who carries all his honors on his back, and when Fortune is pleased to divest him of them, what is he fit for? The mind does not exist unless leagued with the soul. What is gotten with wit will be kept with wariness and increased with wisdom. Be wise, and that knowledge shall be God unto thee; be contented, and that is thy Heaven. The catalogue of true thoughts is but small; they are ubiquitous; no man’s property; and unspoken, or bruited, are the same. When we hear them why seem they so natural, receiving our spontaneous approval? Why do we think we have heard them before? Because they are but reiterate ourselves; they were in us, before we were born. The truest poets are but speakers; and some men are but duplicates of each other.

Every thought’s a soul of some past poet, hero, sage.  I hope you hear my whispers for blessing and happiness and that they surround you forever. May peace and love fill your heart; beauty fills your World; and contentment and joy fill your days. I present my sincere wishes and kind thoughts. When we are not happy in our own thoughts, it is a relief to carry them out of ourselves. These new thoughts will outshine all others. There is so much tenderness in your spirit. Your tenderness seems the reflection of God’s own love.  Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of Earth, overlying our hard hearts, and making them soft, trusting, and loving again.  This is a time for us to share our happiness, blessing, and dedication with each other. This is a time for our friendship and dreams. A good cry [before sleep is] better than the best of medication. I forgot to ask you, are you well and healthy? My greeting is knocking on your beautiful door. My heart is full of tender feelings. My friend says nothing and we are hand in hand because silence may be the most beautiful and touching song. Good work succeeds, now and then. We never quite understand why another dislikes what we like.

A truly elegant taste is generally accompanied with an excellency of heart; true virtue is nothing else, but great taste. Though a taste for the fine arts may not always be a mark of a great mind, yet a contempt for them always indicates the contrary. Virtue is little more than active taste; and the most delicate affections of each combine in real love. Good looking, refined looking, quick witted people can be grown; but the sprightly sense of fitness of the mind, ineffable genius, comes from good breeding. Not everyone can be as mighty as you. Knowledge is sympathy and sympathy is love, and to learn it the Son of God became a man. Sympathies of all kinds are apt to beget love. Times files by, it is the time I cherish the memory of the past years and give my consecrations to you. Do not be surprised at the green grass. It this season, the flowers in the heart bloom just for you. I hope heartfelt songs are always around you and bring you endless delight. Whatever you do, have yourself the best day ever.

Be a man’s intellectual superiority what it will, you are the key to open a special moment, it is the heart that gives success. There are many a way to win in the World, but none of them is worth much without good hard work back of it. Moderation in success is necessary to its ultimate advantage. Make indifference your business and ambition your relaxation, and you will succeed. Victory depends upon ardor more than numbers. Strength is the brute form of truth. When beautiful melody flows in your dream tonight, do you realize it is me who comes into your dreams across many mountains, to fill you with eagerness and hopes? This is the most humane time full of love, it is just like sunny and beautiful June. Forget and forgive all unhappiness in the past. Let us advance hand and hand. Endless love and blessings for you, your heart is the most cherished present and everything to me forever.

Wondrous Worlds on Worlds! Love round and round me, joyful spells: all glorious, vivid, constellations, God you are! To you, the stars, we all owe our sublets raptures, thoughts and unspeakable faith to you. I will not worry because I know you are always with me. States and empires have their periods of declension, and feel in their turns what distress and poverty is, but as long as I am faithful to you, there is nothing for me to be concerned about. Why should we have low life above stairs as well as high life below stairs? It is because the spirit is inestimable that the lifeless body is so little valued. However, my body, which you have given me, is my greatest gift; I cherish it with every waking moment. It is my temple. Is the soul a shadow seated in the house of sin? Or is the body really in the soul? The separation of spirit from matter is a mystery, and the union of spirit with matter is a mystery also. This leads me to believe that our bodies are our soul, and therefore we should be kind to them and treasure them. My soul may not be perfect, but it is all I have and I love it.

The soul does not measure time by seconds, nor yet by heart-beats, but by modifications in its own quality and character. The watches of the World may stop; the planets may cease to measure the flight of time; the body may retain its pristine vigor, but in an hour, a moment almost, the heart may grow old, the man be transformed. Wake up the heart full of love, as I call your name. Only love is eternal, ploughing and shinning, and creating a path to Heaven. Let us cherish each other. Let us listen to the blessings of the Earth, in this beautiful and warm World. It is dark out here, in the pursuit of love, completely unabridged this silent fortress. My mind escapes me, feeling it in my bones. The ties that bind deny us this love. I started blind, but now my eyes are wide open. Many people say this is not our home, it is just a school, but for all we know, this could be Heaven, let us make the best of it. I wish you happy life and successful joy and I promise my love will be with you forever.

Time can Sooth all Obstacles

r1

Truth is not afraid to appeal to future and further discoveries for a sanction to the present. How can that be trustworthy that teaches distrust? Time truly works wonders.

November 2014 378

Time sublimates wine; it sublimates fame; nay, is the creator thereof; of fables distills truths; and smooths, levels, glosses, softens, melts, and meliorates all things.  Could we see Time’s full face we were wise of him.

r2

No one is to blame for suffering an evil he cannot avoid. However, gold is purified by fiery trials. Yet truth is veiled, because we could no more look upon his glory than we can upon the sun. Nonetheless, each bright start is overheard somewhere.

401

We love to feel within us the bond which unites the most distant eras, men, nations, customs, perish; the affections are immortal. They are the sympathies which unite the ceaseless generations. The past lives again, when we look upon its emotions, it lives in our own. That which was, ever is.

Love makes Life Long, not Years

112

The portraits seemed to be staring in astonishment. Their tongues quivered like aspen leaves, what is this eloquence, but good sense expressed in clear language? You cast light on the soul of wisdom like morning sunshine; you support people with water, unselfishly like the spring; you give us direction like compass. You live life with fervent enthusiasm. When a man can say what he likes with the certainty that every word will be reported, and can speak to those around him as one manifestly their superior, he always looms large.

151

Your sincerest efforts make the people in your life sparkle with enthusiasm. Eloquence is a native gift of yours; it comes from your lips, without effort, and without preparation. Your words are as inspirational as your deeds, as magnificent as you character; everything you say has it source in your great heart and were coined in an infinite brain. You are the founder of future, making everyone in your life reveal greatness; you spread knowledge making each young soul full of wisdom. Your passion and light, we take with us and bury in our hearts.

141

When I see you, the sadness of departure leaves my eyes, and gives sunshine to my heart like an obscure illusion of my dreams. You have the most amazing blue eyes, though they do not tell all, they explain so many things to me. Your eyes are the character, the mirror of your soul, they are like arctic pools, pure, crisp, and cool. Thou lookest far into eternity with those bright eyes! Tell me what thou seest? They eyes only sees that which brings with it the power of seeing. We have no words, no tears, only eternal blessing resonating in our hearts. You see beauty in these commonplace thins, and delight in showing how kindly the light of Heaven falls on them.

Capture2

Men who can talk freely, but do nothing, fail in everything they attempt. There is too much vision mixed with the fact. Gazing into the depths of your glamorous blue eyes, when you are in a contemplative mood, they seem most good-natured yet unfathomable; but when illuminated by some lively emotion, they beam upon the beholder like stars. The eyes are the messenger of love, and the brain is the master; the ears are the carriers of good news, and the heart is the safe where you hold everything blessed.

384

We look at each other, I have a lot of words to tell you, but I am speechless. The time we share is more valuable than I could have ever imagined. I do not yearn for anything, but you. I want to keep each image in my heart, each memory, and every moment, so I can recall them when I am away from you. And there is a happy future that is most successful. I pray that I will see you as soon as possible and will make your name known in the World.  For in the future, you will triumph and it will linger with everlasting reminiscence at the tips of our tongues.

383

In the days when we were together, you affected me with your laughter, and in the days when we were apart with love. Whether I take a stroll in the woods or meditate in the light, I feel as if I were always accompanied by you. I open think about you, all true facts of nature or the mind are related. It is not a philosophy, it is a fact. Facts fled before philosophy like frightened photographers in the forest. There is no sorrow I have thought more about than that, to love what is great, and try to reach it, and yet to fail. A man has no business to fail; least of all he expects others to have time to look back upon him or pity him if he sinks under stress.

387

I should open up my own way to the future, after all others are not mine. Oh, my dear god, it is you who gets me out of barriers in my heart. You are just like a candle, lighting up others, but dedicating yourself; I want to say the fire that lights up others will burn forever. You give others deep hope. Although the seasons change and time passes, you take care of the land seeing off the dusk and greeting the dawn.  Families are the most beautiful things in the entire World. One book about the good you have done is worth all the romances in the World.

In the journey of life, there have been many changes, but time after time, only one thing is inevitable, which is your love for us. If I was a poet, I would write impressive stories with great passion to you, about the vast ocean and vault of Heaven, and then present them to you, my erudite teacher. Your profound sight is collected in my heart; you are navigating for me with the light of life. Love is the business, the sole business of romances. That coarse touch is to my mind a recommendation; for it do always prove a story to be true.

Although suspense is the soul of narrative, the end, and the delivery of reader and writer alike, should not be dallied with. In novels, the most indifferent hero comes out right at last.  I can fix all of those lies. I run, but I am running to you. You will not see me cry, I am hiding inside. I am trying to make things right. My only dream is about you and I. All of the things that you desire I can make it so real. Faithfulness is to the emotional life what consistency is to the life of the intellect, simply a confession of success. My loyalty is to you. If we were not afraid others would pick them up, there are many things that we would throw away, and love is eternal. We cannot toss it out like last night’s mule.

The moth that would not be burned must keep out of the flame. Our charge of love is great, and therefore cannot be thrown out. Never will I give my hand where my heart does not accompany it. It is more useful to go through life with common sense than with all the taste in the World. No bond unites congenial hearts more firmly than that of a common great aim. Since all human affairs are subject to organic disorder, even while we are talking and meditating about the Earth’s orbit and the solar system, what we feel and adjust our movements to is the stable Earth, and the changing day.

Language is Worth a Thousand Pounds a Word!

All phrases of mere compliment have their turn to be true. A man is occasionally grateful when he says, “Thank you.” How many days you teach us painstakingly and cultivate silently. You ignite the light of hope for us and enlighten my soul and wisdom. You will be in my heart forever. The clouds are still moving on and on. Your voice still rises and falls. Although today is your holiday, you still assiduously cultivate in your field. Oh, please accept my highest respects. After many years, whom I will see most in my dream, perhaps is you. After many years, whom I will talk about most, perhaps is still you.  Whether daytime or night, I will cherish the burning sunlight you give me, I will be proud of this collection. I recalled you when I fell; you pushed cowardice off me and sowed hope for me. You are my idol forever. Without your painstaking cultivation and dedication, how else could wisdom bloom so gorgeously?

Weather I stay with you or go to the ends of the World, I will look for you. I will contribute the vivid dreams of yesterday and the freshest feelings to you. No words can express my thanks. I wish this pretty letter can express a few of my heartfelt acknowledgments in the bottom of my heart. You have a sun like heart. Not only do you shine on the green gardens, but also the barren wasteland. Not only do you breed colorful flowers, but also slim grass, and towering trees. In my journey of life, you enrich my soul, enlighten my wisdom and light my lamp of hope. I will be grateful to you forever. Limitless deep love is what I have for you, I wish you happy with respect. Perhaps I am capricious, naughty, and make you worry about me. Perhaps I am tenacious, unsensible, and make you angry. However, in fact, I respect you. You are the greatest man in my heart. I guarantee that I will be more obedient tomorrow than today.

In our brilliant rays of wisdom, there is still the flame you ignited in those years. Without your generous attributions, how can I harvest? Thank you! I am sleeping; it is you who breeds me into a towering tree. I am a fire; it is you who ignited me. I am an instrument; it is you who play the strings of my heart. I will remember you forever. You make my discouraged and exhausted soul renew new courage. You give me the brightest and most precious jewels of self-confidence. Then I grew and feel more comfortable with myself. Flowers understand most the selflessness of spring rains. The moon understands most the generosity of the sun. I understand the deepest love from you, kindness is love. Though we are far apart, your image remains lofty in my heart like the sun, shining on me, giving me strength, though I have been away so long, I miss you.

Every note is glimmering your love. Every rhythm is full of your deep feelings. Because of you, my music of youth is so pure and fresh. You encourage children to seek knowledge with your talent and motivation. You turn your love into sunshine to brighten the soul of children. With love, you create a warm friendly atmosphere. The sunshine, the sound of the song and cheerful laughter are everywhere and every moment. Cherished in my heart are your urgings like the spring breeze, the drizzling rain, you bring me into a colorful world, a limitless world. It is you that open the window for our souls. It is you who make us see the broad world, celestial body beyond the Galaxy, tomorrow and future, yesterday and all things millions of billions years ago. When we fly, embracing the sky with forceful position and ardent hands, we will embrace you.

Truth Shall Prevail when it gets a Chance

The best thing a man can have, is work with a purpose in it, and the will to do it heartily. Life is a journey without an end. Wherever I go, even to the ends of the Earth, I remember clearly your smile, your teaching, your voice, and your spirit! Sunlight and dew endow me with new life; wisdom and knowledge shape me with new soul. Let this letter bring my heartfelt blessing to you.

The most reliable and useful courage is that which arises from the fair estimation of the encountered peril. We dream not ourselves, but the thing within us. What secret happiness is greater than to follow your illusions? Let us open the door of puzzles, with the golden key of wisdom, and make our way into the palace of creation. Perhaps difficulty and frustration are good for it is an exercise; is the dynamic force that pushes us forward.

In this World, successful people are those who strive for the opportunity they want. If we cannot find any opportunity, we will create them for ourselves. One the long voyage of our life, every step is a test. However, making one’s direction clear and knowing one’s potentiality and stepping forward are resolutely more important.

It is not the setback that is dreadful, but the despair in failure and repentance. All can start anew, and success is in the near future. He loved these dreams and the success of his imaginary achievements. They were its best parts of life, its secret truth, its hidden reality. Everyone has his astonishing potentiality. I should believe my own power and youth and tell myself continuously, everything is up to me.

Nature meant me to be, on the whole, a good man. To be good is to be in harmony with one’s self. No matter how long the road is, no matter where I am, I will give you my most sincere blessing. You not only see the World with your eyes, but also think of it with your mind so the World belongs to you. Your words full of love from distance are as natural, fresh, fragrant, and fascinating as the blue sky, which matches your eyes.

May you have a brighter future and make great progress. A good deed never dies. Light is the first essential. Light stimulates, nourishes, preserves. You can no more do without it, than if you were a flower. What may not be expected in a country of eternal light? Blue looks clear and transparent in the sky and stands for hope; your blue eyes look deep and steady and represent stamina.

Let us recall the past good years silently respectively, in your eyes we will find pure life. The caverns of my mind are open, and they will not close. A virtuous mind soon finds consolation in itself. Virtue better apparel the mind, than clothes the body. Good memories are in my deep blessing. Warm missing brings my silent wishes, take care of yourself and come back as you wish.

Are these bright stars your eyes? They are your eyes and also my stars. They navigate for me towards dawn in the sea of life. My spring is in your eyes; my summer is in your smile. Our hearts our connected forever no matter how far we are or how near we are. My eyes always gaze at you. No matter how far away I am from you and how many years before we meet again, I am always missing and blessing you in my heart.

I can forget the unreturned fate, but I cannot forget your image and my love. When I miss you, loneliness has a special beauty. Yesterday we argued, yesterday we played football on the playground, yesterday we had a test in the classroom, yesterday we sang songs in the candlelight. Yes! Yesterday is so beautiful and deserves a memory.

Life, the time a story ends is the time another story begins. Here is joyful story and sad story. The story of our life is still on regardless of joy or sadness. You are in my dreams for years. You with my hope take a long walk. I hope I can walk with you forever. I wish I become the guitar in your hands, played happy music by you in your happy days; I wish I become a tender breeze to take your sadness away in your unlucky days.

The forest where we had taken walks, blue, yellow and pink roses and everything do not change. When will you return so we can enjoy all of these? What you leave to me is a beautiful memory. You remind me of the purity and friendship of my childhood. I will always remember the two tall trees by the arch bridge.

There are two lights in my memory, which are your eyes with deep love. Your eyes seem to speak to me, night of missing will go by, please greet the dawn when we will meet again. Our youthful footprints are left on your heart, imprinted in your mind, and our hearty laughter forever in your ears. Our bond and ideals are engraved on every corner of this planet.

Can delicate minds be united to each other but by delicate observances? Sincerity is to trade one’s heart for another’s. That is so sincerely appreciated by you and also opens my own World to let you come in. In life, one thing should be valued most, for it can turn the unusual you into familiarity, cold into warmth, indifference into appreciation. That is a true bond.

You have with your burning feeling warmed and invigorated my heart, love I can see nothing will be just like it was. Maybe you are not even human because only an angel could be so unusual, sweet surprise I could get used to, unusual you. Your exemplary and effectual teachings in my spirit will be remembered forever.

When I am with you, I can just be myself. My heart is soaring, you will never let me down. Ideal is beautiful and I am directed by you to it; the voyage of life is tough and you are a stone, we can pave the way through this journey. You are illuminating us; you are a gardener working hard and trimming the flowers; you are dedicating your knowledge to us. I want to say thank you.
