Will Spaceship Earth Endure?

In the course of a person’s life, there are moments of clarity and there are instances of darkness. There are many behavioral challenges that accompany life in restricted environments. At optimal mental operations, one experiences great clarity of thought and profound realization of all the opportunities in the World. At the low, people experience depression, anger, or sadness. What will it take to sustain emotional well-being and efficient performance? Drugs, chemicals, foods, and lifestyle changes may affect an individual’s thought process in various way. Provisions must be made for regular exercise and full-body showers. As trivial as it might seem, a lack of showers has been a major complaint among people in confined living spaces, like high rises. Ideally, there should be some flexibility in the use of living and work areas inside a house or apartment. Behavior patterns change over time, and being able to control one’s environment helps lower stress. At the same time, people need stability. Psychologist have found, for instance, that eating becomes an important high point in monotonous environments. Eating at least one meal together each day can help keep people working as a social unit. #RandolphHarrs 1 of 13

Sleep cycles must be carefully control to avoid disrupting bodily rhythms. In many communities, people have found they could not sleep while other community members continued to work and talk. Problems with sleep will be worsened by the constant noise in any community. At first, such noise is annoying. After weeks or months, it can become a serious stressor. Researchers are experimenting with various earmuffs, eyeshades, and sleeping arrangements to alleviate such difficulties. Disregarding for the moment the objective existence of spirits or demons, ritual magic is a way to control the mind. Without the use of drugs or chemicals, one who practices the occult controls directly his or her level of conscious awareness. An individual experiences being awake mentally, a state which the mundane only experiences after large amounts of coffee or other stimulants. The spirits or demons one calls upon exist within the subjective mind and respond to that individual’s invocation. As the person practices the occult, one gains control over one’s emotions and experiences more peaks of optimal performance than lows and disability. #RandolphHarris 2 of 13

Psychologists are helping engineers design habitats so they meet human needs for privacy. However, privacy must be based mainly on temporarily blocking out visual and auditory contact with others. Forced togetherness is stressful mainly because temporary retreat from others is difficult or impossible.  Thus, control over the amount of group contact is more important than actually having a private residence or room. Designers do recognize, however, the need to define private territories. It is important to identify small areas that can be personalized and owned by each individual. Desks, lofts, offices, bed rooms, and the like, could fill this need if they are not shared with others. Sensory monotony will be a problem in any community, even with the magnificent vistas of Earth. (How many times would you have to see a garden, park, or statue before you lose interest?) Researchers are developing stimulus environments that will use music, videotapes, and other diversions to combat monotony and boredom. Again, they are trying to provide choice and control for people. #RandolphHarris 3 of 13

Studies of confined living make it clear that one person’s symphony is another’s grating noise. Where music is concerned, individual earphones may be all that is required to avoid problems. Most people in restricted environments find that they prefer non-interactive pastimes such as reading, listening to music, looking out windows, writing, and watching films or television. As such as anything, this preference may show again the need for privacy. Reading or listening to music is a good way to psychologically withdraw from the group or community. A variety of passive entertainment looks like a must for any community. Russian community members, who make much use of music, have also reacted with delight to grab bags containing unexpected toys or novelties. I am quite ready to postpone the gratification, but how do I know whether I shall still be alive tomorrow? I am quite willing to give up all the paths to gratification interdicted by society, but I am sure that society will reward me for this renunciation by opening for me—even after a certain delay—one of the permitted paths? #RandolphHarris 4 of 13

One can plainly tell what these witticisms whisper, namely, that the wishes and desires of human beings have a right to make themselves perceptible next to our pretentious and inconsiderate morality. And in our times, it has been said in empathic and striking terms that this morality is merely the selfish precept of the few rich and mighty who can gratify their desires at any time without deferment. As long as the art of healing has not succeeded in safeguarding our lives, and as long as the social organizations do not do more towards making conditions more agreeable, just so long cannot the voice within us which is striving against the demands of morality, be stifled. Every honest person finally makes this admission—at least to oneself. The decision in this conflict is possible only through the roundabout way of a new understanding. One must be able to knit one’s lift so closely to that of others, and to form such an intimate identification with others, that the shortening of one’s own term of life becomes surmountable. #RandolphHarris 5 of 13

One should not unlawfully fulfill the demands of one’s needs, but should leave them unfulfilled, because only the continuance of so many unfulfilled demands can develop the power to recast the social order. However, not all personal needs allow themselves to be displaced in such a manner and transferred to others, nor is there a universal and definite solution of the conflict.  The objective existence of spirits or demons does not need to be proven in order to show the effectiveness of the occult. Parapsychologists have shown, through years of research and investigation which only the most cynical will deny, the definite existence of telepathy or mental communication. The human brain operates like a radio, receiving the brain waves broadcast by others of similar frequency. For this reason, telepathy is most common among twins, close friends or family members. One who practices the occult may be seen, then, as someone who has converted the receiver of one’s brain into a transmitter. #RandolphHarris 6 of 13

At first, one may only be able to influence those who are on a similar frequency to his or her own will, but to learn how to change frequency in order to influence those on different frequency, which takes intense control over your own thoughts and emotions. The more powerful one’s transmitter becomes, the more people one will be able to influence directly. The quickest and most direct route to the brain is through the optic nerve. Mental transmissions from the brain are sent through the optic nerve to the eyes and out through the eye cavities. This is the origin of the evil eye and fascination, as well as the expression the eyes are the window to the soul. In the Middle Ages, witch-hunters used to remove the eyes of witches so that they would not be able to look upon them and curse them. Once a person who has tapped into the occult has acquired control of one’s own mental states (through ritual magic), and has converted the receiver in one’s brain into a transmitter, one is able to influence rather than be influenced. One may feel contempt for those who are led around upon rash emotional whim without the slightest balance or direction. #RandolphHarris 7 of 13

Many people carry around with them subconscious masochistic  tendencies, causing them to do thing which will bring pain or misery upon themselves. This is called a curse. In its most severe form, the human mind becomes unbalanced, resulting in mental illness, paranoia, psychosis, or schizophrenia. Many people have cursed themselves or have been cured by others, either intentionally or unintentionally. Wishing to place a cure on one’s enemy, an accomplished individual may enter into a ritual chamber (in a waking state in which one’s mind is fully active), invoke a spirt of destruction (create the mental image of the spirit within one’s subjective mind), and command the spirit to go forth and destroy one’s enemy (send out the mental transmission of hate.) Love is one of the most intense feelings felt by people; another is hate. Forcing yourself to feel indiscriminate love is very unnatural. If you try to love everyone you only lessen your feelings for those who deserve your love. Repressed hatred can lead to many physical and emotional aliments. By learning to release your hatred towards those who deserve it, you cleanse yourself of these malignant emotions and need not take your pent-up hatred out on your loved ones. #RandolphHarris 8 of 13

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and they in turn, treat you badly, it goes against human nature to continue to treat them with consideration. You should do unto others as you would have them do unto you, but if your courtesy is not returned, they should be treated with the wrath they deserve. The person who takes every opportunity to pick on others is often mistakenly called sadistic. In reality, this person is a misdirected masochist who is working towards his or her own destruction. The reason a person viciously strikes out against you is because they are afraid of you or what you represent, or are resentful of your happiness. They are weak, insecure, and on extremely shaky ground when you throw your curse, and they deserve it. I believe that our God is a God of perfect order and reasoning. And if demons are able to get inside of a person’s body, then there has to be come kind of specific reason that has allowed this to occur within them. Otherwise, we would all be having demons living inside of us. Bottom line—demons cannot enter into a person’s body without having some kind of legal permission and legal right to be able to do so. #RandolphHarris 9 of 13

They need some kind of entry, and it matters not whether spirits exist objectively or not. They are real to the occult member who invokes them and to the victim who suffers the force of the mental transmission. If spirits or demons exists objectively, as actual intelligent beings, then one might think that they would have more important things to do than appear before a magic circle and serve the whims of mere mortals. Many spirits are accredited with giving knowledge of arts and sciences. The Lesser Key of Solomon, a book of goetic sorcery, list 72 demons which Solomon allegedly bound inside a brazen vessel. The word demon comes from the Greek daemon, an influencing spirit of intelligence. Djin (or genie) is also the foundation of the word genius. Although the word genius is often used by the mundane, one who is called a genius is said to be under the influence of an intelligence, daemon, or genie. If demons do not exist objectively (only subjectively), then the question arises: how can we explain sudden knowledge acquired through contact with a spirit? #RandolphHarris 10 of 13

Parapsychologists, in the study of telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition, have only been able to prove the existence of telepathy. The reason for this is that, while there is a great deal of evidence concerning the precognition of future events, it can always be attributed to telepathic communication. The same is true of clairvoyance and clairaudience. The clairvoyant who sees the spirit of a woman’s dead grandfather standing beside her does not see the actual spirit of the man but, instead, reads the mind of the woman and, from the image of the man in her mind, imagines him as a spirit. In dealing with the question of acquired knowledge, we may consider that all of unknown subject thousands of miles distant, the one dabbling in the occult may acquire instant knowledge of various arts and sciences. This does not prove the objective existence of demons, only the ability of the human mind to become a powerful receiver and transmitter of telepathic signals. Unlike the mundane, who are influenced continuously by thoughts which are not their own, the person involved in the occult may receive the information one desires without being controlled by the desires or aims of others. #RandolphHarris 11 of 13

There is an interesting phenomena which occurs in magic and which involves the creation of thought-forms. The person practicing the occult can create an image within his or her subjective mind and impose it upon the objective World so that it influences the subjective minds of all those individuals who come into contact with it. Objects may be charged with this magical energy and become charmed or cursed. Within a magical group or coven, a group-consciousness develops and acts as if it were an individual entity. These thought-forms are also responsible for buildings and locations assuming an aura; becoming sacred, holy, defiled, unholy, and so forth. These thought-forms were used by Egyptian magicians to guide burial chambers and resulted in the deaths of archaeologist, after they raided the tombs thousands of years later. This phenomena cannot be explained by telepathy, but is rather a form of magnetism or mesmerism, concerning which much research has also been done. If this is, in fact, the case, then those who have a great understanding of the occult may use telepathic (and vocal) communication to communicate with (summon) all manners of gods, angels, and demons as well as to control the minds of others. #RandolphHarris 12 of 13

Many studies have shown steady declines in motivation by those who think they are cursed or who have done a lot of evil things in their lives. Most inhabitants intend to use their free time for creative pursuits. In reality, they end up marking time and may become apathetic. As many as 5 percent of subjects might experience some psychological disturbance. Most often the problem will be depression. However, in rare instances people have become paranoid, psychotic, suicidal, or uncontrollably aggressive. The threat of nuclear war, social conflict, crime, prejudice, infection disease, over-population, environment damage, famine, homicide, economic disaster—these and most other major problems facing us are behavioral. Will spaceship Earth endure? It is a psychological question. Oh, God, teach my heart this day where and how to see you, where and how to find you. You have made me and remade me, and have bestowed on me all the good things I possess, and still I do not know you. I have not yet done that for which I was made. Teach me to seek you, for I cannot seek you unless you teach me, nor find you, unless you show yourself to me. Let me seek you in my desire, let me desire in seeking you. Let me find you by loving you, let me love you when I find you. #RandolphHarris 13 of 13

Ghost Town Has More Letters than Ghost Town Has Citizens

Thinking is the talking of the soul with itself. Knowledge is a complex process and occurs at various levels of complication. Its ultimate biological source is to be found in the adjustment of the organism to its environment; its eventual outreach is in scientific knowledge, which replaces the relativity of individual perspectives by close approximations to exact measurement. Whether on the implicit organic level or on the highly explicit and self-critical scientific level, we know that we know when the content of our beliefs corresponds to the externally observed state of affairs. Working from this epistemological position, an evolutionary cosmology and a materialistic ontology, carrying on insight proves that there are levels, or gradients, of being we capitulate that nature teaches us reason, moving effortlessly from discovery to discovery. Even the higher levels like life and mind, which emerge most favorable conditions, are, however, physical systems. Life is not a nonnatural force coming from outside, but a term for the new capacities of which nature has found itself capable. #RandolphHarris 1 of 6

Since language of some sort is a necessary condition of knowledge, it is a mistake to maintain that primary purpose of language is to communicate knowledge. The primary purpose of language is to analyze thought. In fact, we cannot exhibit the ideas that coexist in our minds successively to others except in so far as we know how to exhibit them successively to ourselves. That is to say, we know how to speak to others only in so far as we know how to speak to ourselves. It is a consequence of this view that the art of thinking, or logic, reduces to the art of speaking. Although a thought is not a succession in the mind, it has a succession in discourse, where it is decomposed into as many parts as there are ideas making it up. Then we can observe what it is we so when we think, we can give an account of it, we can, consequently, learn how to conduct our reflective thought. In this way, thinking becomes an art, and that art is the art of speaking. Most contemporary estimates for the carrying capacity of the Earth under existing conditions are between 4 billion and 16 billion. Human overpopulation may or may not have already occurred. #RandolphHarris 2 of 6

There are now 7 billion people in the World. And, the rapid recent increase in human population is causing some concern because of the lack of space and, increasing depletion of non-renewable resources, and the degradation of the capacity of the environment to give support to the population. Overpopulation can result from an increase in births, a decline in mortality rates, an increase in immigration, or an unsustainable biome and depletion of resources. Therefore, space colonization (also called space settlement, or extraterrestrial colonization) is permanent human habitation off the planet, and it is become more of a reality. Scientist are working on ways to make the climates of other planets more palatable to human beings, and also finding ways to get to space besides spaceships. There is a device called a space elevator currently underway. Governments and corporations are spending billions installing infrastructure in space to create a form of transportation, much like an elevator, that will take someone from Earth and to space for a cost of $20,000.00 and as low as $500.00. #RandolphHarris 3 of 6

A space elevator is a cable fixed to the equator of Earth and reaching into space. A counterweight at the upper end keeps the center of mass well above geostationary orbit level. This produces enough upward centrifugal force from Earth’s rotation to fully counter the downward gravity, keeping the cable upright and taut. There will be some kind of vehicle attached to the cable the transports people into to space, where they will then be picked up by a space taxi, so to speak, and taken to the planet of their choice or assignment. The space elevator will transport people 60,000 miles up into the Heavens and could be completed by 2035. While geometry fixes and fictionalizes the ideality of its concepts of points without parts, of lines and planes conforming to ideally divided dimensions, by means of empirical signs and figures, God has employed evaluable reasons to the enlightenment with a special divine creation and of deliberate human invention of language to support human life. It seems probably that God will use human beings to carry out his plans for life after The Book of Revelations. #RandolhHarris 4 of 6

It has been recognized that we can have clear ideas only in processing a well-made language, and that a language can be well-made only in so far as we have reformed the most familiar operations of the mind from the very outset, only in so far as we have grasped the relation that interconnects them all. In speech, the energy of the mind breaks a path through the lips, but its product returns through our own ears. We surround ourselves with a World of sounds in order to assimilate the World of objects. Many of the remarkable developments in the World have taken place under the influence or in reaction against the oppression. The rational meaning of every proposition lies in the future. How so? The past is gone, there is nothing we can do about it, and by constantly focusing on it, we leave ourselves at a disadvantage. What is the very meaning of focusing on something we have no control over. However, the present and the future are here, we have to find a way to deal with overcrowding, lack of resources, and traffic. It is, according to the pragmatists, the form of human conduct, which is reasonable. #RandolphHarris 5 of 6

Self-control under every situation and to every purpose is most directly applicable. One of the inherent and most valuable properties of a natural language is that of being the conservator of ancient experience, and that our accumulated body of experience to which all the former ages have contributed their part is innovation. I look at all these people protesting to keep illegal immigrants in this country, and pay them and provide medical care and education and housing and legal assistance to them, but these are the same people who brought Africans here as slaves and deprived them of all of their rights and never paid them for the labor that their ancestors invested into this country. African American protested because even after they became legal citizens, laws kept them from getting jobs, and medical care, education, and legal representations. Consequently, it may be good to distort the comprehensive overview of history, but it is bad to let any part of the meaning drop. So, when you turn to God and innovation, there are always means to find solutions to problems. And faith in God will make the rest of your life, the best of your life. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and humans, the man Christ Jesus. #RandophHarris 6 of 6

The Winchester Mystery House

From the mysterious ghost in Steam Alley to the inexplicable events around the estate, the tales The Winchester Mystery House recount some of the most infamous hauntings throughout the century. https://winchestermysteryhouse.com/

Folk Always Listen when the Tale is their Own

To light a fire is the instinctive and resistant act of humans when, at the Winter ingress, the curfew is sounded throughout Nature. It indicates a spontaneous, Promethean rebelliousness against the fiat that this recurrent season shall bring foul times, cold darkness, misery and death. Black chaos comes, and the fettered gods of the Earth say, Let there be light. What may not be expected in a country of eternal light? The three great anxieties of modern humans—the anxiety of death, that of meaningless, and that of guilt. These three forms of anxiety are three modes of response to various kinds of threats from nonbeing, threats to which existence as such is subject. Death entered the World through the fall of man. Reference here is to spiritual death which separates humans from God. Through sin it came in the beginning and so has it ever come since then. Death always comes through sin. Death has permeated the spirit, soul, and body of all people; there is no part of a human being into which it has not found its way. #RandolphHarris 1 of 11

A mind that after a long season of oblivion in pain returns to wakefulness without a keen edge for the World is much in danger of souring permanently. As a practical solution to this practical problem, theology presents God. It is therefore imperative that we receive God’s life. By participating in God, who is the infinite power to resist the threat of nonbeing, humans acquire the courage to exist fully, even in the face of such anxiety. Similarly, when a person becomes deeply aware of historical existence as full of ambiguities, one becomes filled with perplexities of despair. The Christian answer is the notion of the Kingdom of God, which is the meaning, fulfillment, and unity of history. The human situation arises out of human problems. Only humanity can stone for humanity but because sin is in one’s humanity, human’s own death cannot atone for sin, nor can angels, nor animals. The Lord Jesus Christ came and took human nature upon himself in order that He might be judged instead of humanity. #RandolphHarris 2 of 11

Christ was a virgin and have never been married. He had that mental combination which is at once humble in the region of mystery and keen in the region of knowledge. Untainted by sin, Christ’s holy nature could therefore through death atone for sinful humanity.  He died a substitute, suffered in his spirit, soul, and body on the cross all penalty of sin, and offered his life a ransom for all of the World. Consequently, whoever believes in Him shall be judged no more. Faith is an unconditional surrender to something and the willingness to recognize it as an absolute authority; an expectation that one will in some way receive a supreme fulfillment through encounter and commerce with it; a discover that everything in one’s life and one’s World is significant only insofar as it is in some way related to it; and experiencing faith as holy—that is, reacting to it with an intimate blend of a sense of awe, mystery, and fascination. #RandolphHarris 3 of 11

Every human being has such an ultimate concern, also known as faith, but the objects of the concern vary enormously. Supernatural beings, historical persons whether religious or secular, nations, social classes, political movements, cultural forms like painting and science, material goods, social status—any of these may be the object of an ultimate concern. However, orientation around a single object is a rare achievement. Most people, it would seem, have several major interests. Religious life is more than an organization of human feelings and attitudes and it involves a reference to a reality outside itself, a reference that can be validated. The doctrine of a supernatural person, like all religious doctrines, is to be conceived as an attempt to symbolize an ultimate reality, being-itself, which is so ultimate that all that can literally be said about it is that it is ultimate. Nothing can properly be of ultimate concern unless it is the ultimate determiner of the reality and meaning of our existence, and only being-itself occupies this position. #RandolphHarris 4 of 11

From the conclusion, it is only a short step to say that in ultimate concern one is always really concerned with being-itself, whether one realizes it or not. The superiority of Christianity seems itself to be in symbolic terms. Dying on the cross, as the price of sin is death, Jesus Christ, who is the basic symbol of being-itself in Christianity, underlined the fact that symbols have their significance not in themselves, but as manifesting the Ultimate. The very being human was constituted spirit, soul, and body. As it is the site of human being’s personality and consciousness, the soul is connected to the spiritual World through human being’s spirit. The soul must decide whether it is to obey the spirit and hence be untied with God and His will or is to yield to the body and all the temptations of the material World. One the occasion of man’s fall the soul resisted the spirit’s authority and became enslaved to the body and its passions. The foundation for the Christian’s deliverance from sin God provides for every believer; all may enter in. Liberation from the power of sin may be experienced the very hour a sinner accepts the Lord Jesus as Savior and is born anew. #RandolphHarris 5 of 11

It is important to recognize that sin possess power, for it enslaves us. It emits this power incessantly to draw us into obedience to its old man so that we might sin. The Old man represents the sum total of everything we inherit from Adam. We can recognize the old man by knowing what the new man is, because whatever is not of the new man must belong to the old. Our new man embraces everything that flows newly from the Lord at our regeneration. That old man was crucified with the Lord Jesus. When a true is unfolded by God, it most naturally becomes a power in a person, who then finds himself or herself able to believe. Faith comes through revelation. Without the latter the former is impossible. This explains why many do not have faith, for though they mentally understand they do not have God’s revelation. Therefore, the brethren pray until God gives us revelation so that know this in our spirit we may truly confess that our old man has been crucified with Christ. Sin will exercise no dominion over us. We must praise God for deliverance. The Lord wants us to serve Him in sincerity and truth. #RandolphHarris 6 of 11

The defeatist attitude probably arises from the fact that time always seems to be mysteriously slipping away from us; no sooner do we grasp a bit of it in our conscious than it has slipped away into the past. A spiritual relationship with God leads to freedom. Living righteously is always a genuine decision one makes to remain attentive to the presence and power of God. It is motivated by love and reverence for the One who created us. Every morning when you wake up, set aside sometime to pray and center yourself. The practice of letting your soul be fed by God’s word and praying will prepare you for the day ahead. In everything give thanks and stay determined to remain grateful regardless of what may come your way. Gratitude helps you maintain perspective on who you are in Christ and what He has given you. We must also choose to be loving people and Christ will bless your life. Clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humanity, gentleness, and patience.  Everyday is a new opportunity to for improvement. God will be glorified in it, and you will be blessed. At the end of each day, we should find ourselves a little closer to God. #RandolphHarris 7 of 11

This notion of time as something which continually slips past us is based on confusion. When confined to any creature: noting below an infinite good can afford room to stretch itself, and exert its vigor and activity. What! Is a little skin-deep beauty, or some small degree of goodness, to match or satisfy a passion which was made for God: designed to embrace an infinite good? When a soul is fixed on that supreme and all-sufficient good, it finds so much perfection and goodness, as does not only answer and satisfy its affection, but master and overpower it too. It finds all its love to be too faith and languid for such a noble object, and is only sorry that it can command no more. It wishes for the flames of a seraph, and longs for the tie when it shall be wholly melted and dissolved into love; and because it can do so little itself, it desires the assistance of the whole creation, that angels and humans would conquer it the admiration and love of those infinite perfections. If God is the object of our love, we should share in an infinite happiness, without any mixture or possibility of diminution. #RandolphHarris 8 of 11

We should rejoice to behold the glory of God and receive comfort and pleasure from all the praises wherewith humans and angles do extol him. It should delight us, beyond all expression, to consider, that the beloved of our souls is infinitely happy in himself, and that all his enemies cannot shake or unsettle his throne, that our God is in the Heavens, and does whatever he pleases. Behold, on what sure foundation his happiness is built, whose soul is possessed with divine love, whose will is transformed into the will of God, and whose great desire is, that our Mater should be pleased! Oh, the peace, the rest, the satiation that attends such a temper of mind! It is the nature of faith to believe God upon His bare word. One of the greatest abilities God has given each of us is our ability to believe. If you believe, you can be successful and will fulfill your God-given destiny. There is incredible power in what we believe. What God promised, he will do. #RandolphHarris 9 of 11

I pray that we understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for all who believe. Notice the power is activated only when we believe. That means right now the Creator of the Universe is just waiting to release healing, restoration, promotion, and abundance. The only catch is you have to believe. Our concept of a physical thing as a three-dimensional entity which can move and change, our concept of a physical event as a change in one or more such physical things, and our concept of physical causation as a relation between physical events is a ground-floor empirical fact that we observe things moving and changing. It is not complicated. God did not say, “If you will pray three hours a day,” or “If you will quote thirteen chapters in the Scripture, then I will do it for you.” No. God said, “If you will only believe in me and do what is righteous, I will arrange things in your favor.” When you believe, the surpassing greatness of God’s power is released. #RandolphHarris 10 of 11

In an experiment, subjects were attending to sounds which had audibly terminated, though they were still presented in the sense that the subject could still “hear” them. If we say that a sound which has audibly terminated is still present, this would be inconsistent, for “it has audibly terminated” implies “it is past.” We ought surely to describe the duration of the specious present, as the span of immediate memory for hearing, and to call this a specious present is appropriate. When you believe, God will see to it that it is taken care of. When you believe, you have the Creator of the Universe fighting your battles, arranging things in your favor, going before you, moving the wrong people out of the way. You could not have made it happen in your own strength, but because you are a believer, the surpassing greatness of God’s power is at work in your life. Let this lay a foundation in your spirit. Because you are a believer, all will be well with you. All will be well with your family. All will be well with your finances. All will be well with your health. All will be well with your career. God promises are about to manifest in your life. #RandolphHarris 11 of 11

Paradise Canyon–How the Earth Began

Many of us assume, almost without question, that we can trust in reality of what we see. The religions of ancient Greece and Rome are extinct. The so-called divinities of Olympus have not a single worshipper among the living (none that we know of). However, in theology and literature and taste, the gods of the ancient World still hold their place, and will continue to hold it, for they are too closely connected with the finest productions of poetry and art, both ancient and modern, to pass into oblivion. The Greeks also perfected the sculptural art of relief as a means to decorate and embellish the beauty of their great architectural achievements. We propose to tell the stories relating to them which have come down to us from the ancients and which are alluded to by modern poets, essayists, and orators.  The Dawn, the Sun, and the Moon were supposed to rise out of the Ocean, on the eastern side, and to drive through the air, giving light to gods and humans. The stars also, except those forming the Wain of Bear, and others near them, rose out of and sank into the stream of the Ocean. There, the sun-god (Ra or Helios) embarked in a winged boat, which conveyed him around by the northern part of the Earth, back to his place of rising in the east.

These stories are fascinating, and I would like to believe they are true. That may sound a little unusual, but my vision of space and time may be different than most. I think that Earth is much like a carriage, which over time evolved into a powerful car. So it is possible that there were many gods on Earth, and they did all of these things, but as time went by and technology changed, so did the Earth, but for your sake, these are just myths and nice stories. The creation of the World is a problem naturally fitted to excite the liveliest interest in people, its inhabitants. The ancient pagans, not having the information on the subject, which we derive from the pages of Bible Scriptures, had their own way of reporting the story. Before Earth, and Sea, and Heaven were created, all things wore one aspect, to which we give the name of Chaos—a confused and shapeless mass, nothing but dead weight, in which, however, slumbered the seeds of things. Earth, Sea, and Air were all missed up together; so the Earth was not solid, the sea was not fluid, and the air was not transparent. God and Nature at last interposed and put an end to this discord, separating Earth from Sea, and Heaven from both. The fiery part, being the lightest, sprang up and formed the skies; the air was next in weight and place. The Earth, being heavier, sank below, and the water took the lowest place, and buoyed up the Earth.

Here, some god—it is not known which—gave his good offices in arranging and disposing the Earth. He appointed rivers and bays their places, raised mountains like the Sierra in Tahoe, scooped out valleys like Sacramento and San Jose, distributed woods which appears similar to Yosemite in California, and fountains akin to those of Grand Cascade in Peterhof near Saint-Petersburg, fertile farms not so much like Knott’s Berry Farm, but more similar to Harris Farms, and stony plains, which resemble the Grand Canyon. The air being cleared, the stars began to appear, fishes took possession of the sea, birds of the air, and four-footed beast on land, although some animals are bipedal humanoids. However, a nobler animal was wanted, and modern humans, also known as homo sapiens were made. It is unknown whether the Creator made him of divine materials, or whether in the Earth, so lately separated from Heavenly seeds. Prometheus took some of this Earth, and kneading it up with water, made man in the image of the gods. He gave him an upright stature, so that while all other animals turn their faces downward and look to the Earth, he raises his to Heaven and gazes on the stars.

Prometheus was one of the Titans, a gigantic race, who inhabited the Earth, before the creation of man. To him and his brother Epimetheus was committed the office of making man, and providing him and all other animals with the faculties necessary for their preservation. Epimetheus undertook to do this, and Prometheus was to overlook his work, when it was done. Epimetheus accordingly proceeded to bestow upon the different animals the various gifts of courage, strength, swiftness, sagacity; wings to one, claws to another, a shelly covering to a third, excreta. However, when man came to be provided for, who was to be superior to all other animals, Epimetheus had been so prodigal of his resources that he had nothing left to bestow upon him. In his perplexity he resorted to his brother Prometheus, who, with the aid of Minerva, went up to heaven, and lighted his torch at the Chariot of the Sun, and brought down fire to man. With this gift, man was more than a match for all other animals. It enabled him to make weapons wherewith to subdue them; tools with which to cultivate the Earth; to warm his dwelling, so as to be comparatively independent of climate; and finally, to introduce the arts and to coin money, the means of trade and commerce.

Woman was not yet made. The story is that Jupiter made her and sent her to Prometheus and his brother, to punish them from their presumption in stealing fire from heaven’ and man, for accepting the gift. The first woman was named Pandora. She was made in Heaven, every god contributing something to perfect her. Venus gave her beauty, Mercury persuasion, Apollo music, and it was said that Pandora would sometimes have white hair and at other times, it was jet black. Thus equipped, she was conveyed to Earth and presented to Epimetheus, who gladly accepted her, though cautioned by his brother to beware of Jupiter and his gifts. Epimetheus had in his house a jar, in which were kept certain noxious articles, for which, in fitting man for his new abode, he had had no occasion. Pandora was seized with an eager curiosity to know what this jar contained; and one day she slipped off the cover and looked in. Forthwith there escaped a multitude of plagues for hapless man—such as gout, rheumatism, and colic for his body, and envy, spite and revenge for his mind—and scattered themselves far and wide. Pandora hastened to replace the lid; however, alas! The whole contents of the jar had escaped, one thing only excepted, which lay at the bottom, and that was hope. So we see to this day, whatever evils are abroad, hope never entirely leaves us; and while we have that, no number of other ills can make us completely wretched.  Another story is that Pandora was sent in good faith, by Jupiter, to bless man; that she was furnished with a box, containing her marriage blessing. She opened the box incautiously, and the blessing all escaped, hope only excepted.

The World being thus furnished with inhabitants, the first age was an age of innocence and happiness, called the Golden Age. Truth and right prevailed, though not enforced by law, nor was there any magistrate to threaten to punish. The forest had not yet been robbed of its trees to furnish timbers for vessels, nor had men-built fortification round their towns. There were no such things as swords, spears, or helmets. The Earth brought forth all things necessary for man, without his labor in ploughing or sowing. Perpetual Spring reigned, flowers sprang up without seed, the rivers flowed with milk and wine, and yellow honey distilled from the oaks. Then succeeded the Silver Age, inferior to the Golden, but better than that of Brass. Jupiter shorted the Spring and divided the year into seasons. Then, first, men had to endure the extremes of heat and cold, and houses became necessary. Caves were the first dwellings, and leafy coverts of the woods, and huts woven of twigs (switches). Crops would no longer grow without planting. The farmer was obliged to sow the seed, and the toiling ox to draw the plough. Next came the Brazen Age, more savage of temper and readier to the strife of arms yet not altogether wicked. The hardest and worst was the Iron Age. Crime burst in like a flash flood; modesty, truth, and honor fled. In their places came fraud and cunning, violence, and the wicked love of gain. Then seamen spread sails to the wind, and the trees were torn from the mountains to serve for keels to ships, and vex the face of Ocean. The Earth, which till now had been cultivated in common, began to be divided off into possessions.

Men, however, were not satisfied with what the surface could produce, but must dig into its bowels, and draw forth from thence the ores of metals. Mischievous iron, and more mischievous gold, was produced. War sprang up, using both as weapons; the guest was not safe in his friend’s house; and sons-in-law and fathers-in-law, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives could not trust one another. Sons whisked their fathers dead, that they might come to the inheritance; family love lay prostrate, it seemed that all were doomed; Earth was wet with slaughter, and the gods abandoned it, one by one, till Astraea (the goddess of innocence and purity) alone was left, and finally also took her departure. After leaving Earth, Astraea was placed among the stars, where she became the constellation Virgo-the Virgin. This is the same thing people with high incomes do when neighborhoods fall victim to savages, they leave them behind and let them decay. Jupiter, seeing this state of things, burned with anger. He summoned the gods to council. They obeyed the call and took the road to the palace of Heaven. He summoned the gods to council. The road, which any one may see in a clear night, stretches across the face of the sky and is called the Milky Way (a galaxy, not candy bar). Along the road stand the places of the illustrious gods; the common people of the skies live apart, on either side. Jupiter addressed the assembly. He set forth on the frightful condition of things on Earth and closed by announcing this intention to destroy the whole if its inhabitants, and provide a new race, unlike the first, who would be more worthy of life and much better worshippers of the gods.

So saying he took a thunderbolt, and was about to launch it at the World, and destroy it by burning; but recollecting the danger that such a conflagration might set heaven itself on fire, he changed his plan and resolved to drown it. The north wind, which scatters the clouds, was chained up; the south was sent out, and soon covered all the face of Heaven with a cloak of pitchy darkness. The clouds, driven together, resound with a crash; torrents of rain fall; the crops are laid low; the year’s labor of husbandman perishes in an hour. However, Jupiter, not satisfied with his own waters, calls on his brother Neptune to aid him with the flood. Neptune lets loose the rivers and pours them over the land. At the same time, he heaves the land with an earthquake, much stronger then the magnitude 6.0, which cost Napa, California $1 Billion in damages, and brings in the reflux of the ocean over the shores. Flocks, herds, men and houses are swept away, and temples, with their sacred enclosures, profaned. If any edifice remained standing, it was overwhelmed, and its turrets lay hid beneath the waves. Now all was sea, sea without shore. This was much more devastating than 2011 Tsunami, in Japan, which was triggered by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake, as the waves engulfed the planet. (To digress for a moment, hundreds of U.S. sailors, who took part in rescue efforts, following Japan’s earthquake and tsunami, were exposed to dangerous levels of radiation, and have filed a class action lawsuit against the Tokyo Electric Power Company, and the federal judge has ruled it can go forward. ) Here and there, an individual remained on a projecting hilltop, and a few, in boats, pulled the oar where they had lately driven the plough. The fishes swim among the treetops; the anchor is let down into a garden. Where the graceful lamps played but now unwieldy sea calves gambol.

The wolf swims among the sheep, the yellow lions and tigers struggle in the water. The strength of the wild boar serves him not, nor his swiftness the stag. The birds fall with weary wing into the water, having found no land for resting place. These living beings whom the water spared fell a prey to hunger. Parnassus, a Greek god, alone, of all the mountains, overtopped the waves; and there Decalion, and his wife Pyrrha, of the race of Prometheus, found refuge—he a just man, and she a faithful worshipper of the gods. Jupiter, when he saw none left alive but this pair, and remembered their harmless lives and pious demeanor, ordered the north winds to drive away the clouds, and disclose the skies to Earth, and Earth to the skies. Neptune also directed Triton to blow on his shell and sound a retreat to the waters. The waters obeyed, and the sea returned to its shores, and the rivers to their channels. Then Deucalion thus addressed Pyrrha: “Oh, wife, only surviving woman, joined to me first by the ties of kindred and marriage, and now by a common danger, would that we possessed the power of our ancestor Prometheus, and could renew the race as he first made it; however, as we cannot, let us seek younder temple, and inquire of the gods what remains for us to do.” Deucalion and Pyrrha entered them temple, deformed as it were with slime, and approached the alter, where no fire burned. There they fell prostrate on Earth and prayed the goddess to inform them how they might retrieve their miserable affairs.

The oracle answered, “Depart from the temple with head veiled and garments unbound, and cast behind you the bones of your mother.” They heard the words with astonishment. Pyrrha first broke silence: “We cannot obey; we dare not profane the remains of our parents.” Deucalion and Pyrrha sought the thickest shades of the wood, and revolved the oracle in their minds. At length, Deucalion spoke: “Either my sagacity deceives me, or the command is one we may obey without impiety. The Earth is the great parent of us; and I think this is what the oracle means. At least, it will do no harm to try.” They veiled their faces, unbound their garments, and picked up stones, and cast them behind.  The stones (wonderful to relate) began to grow soft, and assume shape. By degrees, they put on a rude resemblance to human form, like a block half-finished in the hands of the sculptor. The moisture and slime that were about them became flesh; the stony part became bones; the veins remained veins, retaining their name, only changing their use. Those thrown by the hand of the man became men, and those by the woman became women. It was a hard race, and well adapted to labor, as we find ourselves to be at this day, giving plain indications of our origin.

(The comparison of Eve to Pandora is too obvious. Lovelier than Pandora, whom the gods Endowed with all their gifts; and O, too like in sad event, when to the unwise son of Japhet brought by Hermes, she ensnared mankind with her fair looks, to be avenged on him who had stile Jove’s authentic fire.) Prometheus and Epimetheus were sons of Japhet. Prometheus has been a favorite subject with the poets. He is represented as the friend of mankind, who interposed in their behalf when Jove was increased against them and who taught them civilization and the arts. However, in so doing, he transgressed the will of Jupiter, he drew down on himself the anger of the ruler of gods and men. Jupiter had him chained to a rock on Mount  Caucasus, where a vulture preyed on his liver, which was renewed as fast as devoured. This state of torment might have been brought to an end at any time by Prometheus, if he had been willing to submit to his oppressor; for he possessed a secret which involved the stability of Jove’s throne, and if he would have revealed it, that he disdained to do. He has therefore become the symbol of magnanimous endurance of unmerited suffering, and strength of will resisting oppression. The slime with which the Earth was covered by the waters of the flood produced an excessive fertility, which called forth every variety of production, good and bad. Among the rest, Python, an enormous serpent, crept forth, the terror of the people, and lurked in the caves of Mount Parnassus.  Looking for idol hands to possess,   “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8.
