We Are All Children of God
We all have life events that, when we recall them years later, acquire new and important meaning. The words which I had often heard my father speak concerning eternal life, and the joy of the saints, sunk deep into my heart. I remember my father stretched out by the fireplace, reading the scriptures and other good books, and I would stretch out by his side. I would remember the quotes of the scriptures and from Shakespeare that he and I would memorize. “God has given you one face, and you make yourself another. Let never day nor night unhallowed pass, but still remember what the Lord hath done,” says William Shakespeare. Faith comes not only from the spiritual life and from high revelations, it also comes as an emanation from the depths, a starkly personal reality from the most sacred place. In the midst of everyday struggle, we hope for enlightenment and some kind of release. In our prayer, we hope for a fulfilling ordinary life. A mystical wedding, a divine union. For the marriage to take place, each has to learn to appreciate the other and to be affected by the other—spirit’s lofty aims tempered by the soul’s limitations, soul’s unconsciousness stirred by ideas and imagination. The movement toward this union is something to be attempted, worked, and traveled. That is the very idea of soul-making. Soul-making is a journey that takes time, effort, skill, knowledge, intuition, and courage. #RandolphHarris 1 of 6
As we reflect on this process, it is helpful to know that all work with soul is process—alchemy, pilgrimage, and adventure—so that we do not expect instant success or even any kind of finality. All goals and all endings are heuristic, important in their being imagined, but never literally fulfilled. In spiritual literature the path to God or to perfection is often depicted as an ascent. It may be done in stages, but the goal is apparent, the direction fixed, and the way direct. Images of the soul’s path, as we have seen, are quite different. Textures, places, and personalities are important on the soul path, which feels more like an initiation into multiplicity of life than a single-minded focus upon enlightenment. As the soul makes its unsteady way, delayed by obstacles and distracted by all kinds of charms, aimlessness is not overcome. This is the goal of the soul path—to feel existence; not to overcome life’s struggles and anxieties, but to know first hand, to exist fully in context. We can proceed with the assurance that God will never leave us alone. God never gives us a responsibility without offering divine assistance. May we in our divine role as parents, and in partnership with God, become the prime gospel teachers and examples for our children. How we love you and pray constantly for the genius to help you. All people are born with a predetermined desire to life, to come to self-fulfillment through love and accomplishment, and to live creatively. A healthy happy baby is the joy of any parent. We are told from birth, and prenatally, the infant should be surrounded by an atmosphere of love and attention. Whether it is a baby boy or a baby girl, the fun and happiness of having a little one cannot be matched with anything else. Babies bring a lot of love and laughter into your life, together with a sense of purpose and meaning. There is an unexplainable happiness that can never be equaled by anything in the World. Of course, the infant does not reason these things out; it merely feels them. This feeling is born with the infant; it is put there by nature. However, this experience also comes with a responsibility which some may find overwhelming. The infant born into a home where it is unwanted feels an unconscious repulsion, a place void of spirit and dominated by utter hopelessness; everything in its life becomes conditioned by this feeling. Often such infants shrink from the very touch of the hand. This is why many hospitals now place the babe beside the mother where she may reach and cuddle it, which allows the baby and mother to discover a new brand of spirituality, and an uncovered profound peace. #RandolphHarris 3 of 6
The whole atmosphere of the home should be one of wanting and needing and loving the infant. Otherwise the emotional reaction of the infant is that it is not wanted, needed, or loved. The baby has an emotional craving for finding a love object, and this is early conditioning which is a great influence throughout life, because these are the first impressions the infant receives. This law of our emotional being. The infant should be welcomed at the time of birth as though it were a gift from Heaven, a gift of God, an offering of love to humanity, the greatest treasure on Earth, and the hope for the future. The infant should be held not only by its mother, but also in its father’s arms. There is no danger of spoiling the child through love. Quite the reverse. The future life of the infant may be wounded without love. Therefore, it is better to have no children than to have those who are unwanted and unloved. Parents assume a tremendous obligation when they permit themselves to have children. From the earliest point of conception there should be preparation in the patents’ minds, an atmosphere of thinking, feeling, and longing for the new birth. There should be definite, daily prayers centered around the idea that the child is conceived in love and welcomes with joy. Such prayer will relieve tensions and assist nature in making the birth normal, natural, and easy. #RandolphHarris 4 of 6
There must be no confusion nor stress. Everything should flow along with a calm and delightful expectation of wonderful things that are going to happen. The mother should feel that she is carrying a divine treasure, the highest gift of life. She should daily sense that the formation of this pearl into a perfect being, and always with a great tenderness in her heart and mind. The father should have the same mental attitude, for he is a part of the mental and emotional family life and without him the child could not be born. Some part of the father enters into this birth since he is an instrument of nature in its accomplishment. The child must feel itself to be a part of the family life. That means we cannot harshly reject out children as if they were of no importance. The counsel of children should be sought by parents, that they may feel a community of interest and spirit, for they are working out the family life together. They all are now some part of it. When another child is born, the older one or ones should feel that they too are playing an important part in the birth. The new babe has not come to take their place in the affections of the parents, but rather that they all may enjoy it together. This is of vital importance. Too often this process is reversed and the older ones feel something is taking their place. We need to remind ourselves about the value of our heritage so we do not underestimate its worth. All of this, too, must be take up in quiet prayer, in spiritual unification of the family life. If these two fundamental needs are fulfilled the child will be conditioned early in life to meet anything that may come up in its experience. This is why people who speak with authority on the subject maintain that these early formative years are of vital importance. To show how this is, there are cases on record in which an unconscious resentment of the wife to the husband centers in the child, babes have been known to suffer with continual diarrhea when this unconscious treatment exists. It is known too that in early life children often have attacks of asthma in order to gain the notice, affection, and care of the parents. This is why we must introduce the idea of spiritual values, the deep inward feeling that the family is a household of God, a Kingdom of Heaven on Earth in which the parents are seeking to play the role of Heavenly Father. Everyone is in a partnership with life, with love, with God, with truth, with beauty. We are all rooted in the divine spirit, in perfect life. We are all children of God. No child should have to go through life without loving parents. Every being and specifically their life belongs to God. Therefore, life is something of great importance and has meaning and significance because we are attached to some goals which we do not consider trivial and in that sense these goals are obtainable for us. In declaring that one’s life is worthwhile in the objective sense, one is saying that he or she is attached to certain goals which are both attainable and of optimistic value. To let things advance is enlightenment. Humans are outstanding because they are astonishing and extraordinary beings with amazing physical and extraordinary talents. Cognition of the magnitude of a human being allows us to enjoy wisdom, discernment, insight, discretion, knowledge, will power, conscience, love, perfectionism and management. Human life is so important that it has always attracted the attention of scholars and philosophers. The most important principle of human rights is the right to life. There are no other rights for humankind without the right to life. According to Article III of the Declaration of Human Rights, everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person, and this right shall be protected by law. One institution that is found in any society is the family. Family is an integral part of everyone’s house. In some societies, the common units are the small groups made up of parents and children (called nuclear or primary families) and larger groups (called the extended or secondary family), which also includes aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins. Before the turn of the century, most Americans and Canadians lives in extended families—either several generations within the same house, or several sub-units, each living in a nearby house. However, today, the households of most people in North American include only the nuclear family. Urbanization and the Industrial Revolution have been responsible for the change. The number of farmer decreased and the number of those in factory and office jobs grew enormously. As individual’s job became more important to them, people were more willing to move away from home town and family ties and establish an independent life. Originally, the family served as almost a self-contained society. Perhaps one of the reasons for the immense popularity of the film “The Godfather.” That sort of solidarity and support is strangely attractive to modern people in America, Canada, Europe, Africa, Russia, and Mexico, who are largely cut loose from their own extended families. What are the traditional functions of the family? They provide long-term personal intimacy and companionship, regulate sexual relations, ensure the continuance of society through birth and socialization of children, and provide economic support for dependents, and later, for the parents, through their children. If the parent models thrift, the child will be thrifty. Parents help us in every step of our lives. They comfort us when we are babies who come into the World crying and fussing. A person can expect unconditional love from their mother and father and parents take great care of our upbringing. They help us overcome our negative attributes and insufficiencies. Parents are there to change our pampers when we wake up in the middle of the night wet and soiled. They take time off work to nurse us back to health when we are sick and take us to the doctor. Parents go out of their way to make us feel special on our birthday by showering us with gifts, balloons, cake, ice cream, hugs and kisses. A child with good parenting rarely fails in life. Love and care are essential elements to human beings. Parents gift many blessings to their children and are directly involved in their development. They share in our happiness and sorrow equally. When a kid is sad, the parent is sad, and when you are happy, your parents are happy. Without parents, it would be very difficult for anyone to have a great life. Without parents, people have an unfulfilled life. They become isolated and face more hardships in life. To light a fire is the instinctive and resistant act of humans when, at the Winter ingress, the curfew is sounded throughout Nature. It indicates a spontaneous, Promethean rebelliousness against the fiat that this recurrent season shall bring foul times, cold darkness, misery and death. Black chaos comes, and the fettered gods of the Earth say, Let there be light. What may not be expected in a country of eternal light? The three great anxieties of modern humans—the anxiety of death, that of meaningless, and that of guilt. These three forms of anxiety are three modes of response to various kinds of threats from nonbeing, threats to which existence as such is subject. Death entered the World through the fall of man. Reference here is to spiritual death which separates humans from God. Through sin it came in the beginning and so has it ever come since then. Death always comes through sin. A mind that after a long season of oblivion in pain returns to wakefulness without a keen edge for the World is much in danger of souring permanently. As a practical solution to this practical problem, theology presents God. It is therefore imperative that we receive God’s life. By participating in God, who is the infinite power to resist the threat of nonbeing, humans acquire the courage to exist fully, even in the face of such anxiety. Similarly, when a person becomes deeply aware of historical existence as full of ambiguities, one becomes filled with perplexities of despair. The Christian answer is the notion of the Kingdom of God, which is the meaning, fulfillment, and unity of history. The human situation arises out of human problems. Only humanity can stone for humanity but because sin is in one’s humanity, human’s own death cannot atone for sin, nor can angels, nor animals. The Lord Jesus Christ came and took human nature upon himself in order that He might be judged instead of humanity. #RandolphHarris 2 of 11
Christ was a virgin and have never been married. He had that mental combination which is at once humble in the region of mystery and keen in the region of knowledge. Untainted by sin, Christ’s holy nature could therefore through death atone for sinful humanity. He died a substitute, suffered in his spirit, soul, and body on the cross all penalty of sin, and offered his life a ransom for all of the World. Consequently, whoever believes in Him shall be judged no more. Faith is an unconditional surrender to something and the willingness to recognize it as an absolute authority; an expectation that one will in some way receive a supreme fulfillment through encounter and commerce with it; a discover that everything in one’s life and one’s World is significant only insofar as it is in some way related to it; and experiencing faith as holy—that is, reacting to it with an intimate blend of a sense of awe, mystery, and fascination. #RandolphHarris 3 of 11
Every human being has such an ultimate concern, also known as faith, but the objects of the concern vary enormously. Supernatural beings, historical persons whether religious or secular, nations, social classes, political movements, cultural forms like painting and science, material goods, social status—any of these may be the object of an ultimate concern. However, orientation around a single object is a rare achievement. Most people, it would seem, have several major interests. Religious life is more than an organization of human feelings and attitudes and it involves a reference to a reality outside itself, a reference that can be validated. The doctrine of a supernatural person, like all religious doctrines, is to be conceived as an attempt to symbolize an ultimate reality, being-itself, which is so ultimate that all that can literally be said about it is that it is ultimate. Nothing can properly be of ultimate concern unless it is the ultimate determiner of the reality and meaning of our existence, and only being-itself occupies this position. #RandolphHarris 4 of 11
From the conclusion, it is only a short step to say that in ultimate concern one is always really concerned with being-itself, whether one realizes it or not. The superiority of Christianity seems itself to be in symbolic terms. Dying on the cross, as the price of sin is death, Jesus Christ, who is the basic symbol of being-itself in Christianity, underlined the fact that symbols have their significance not in themselves, but as manifesting the Ultimate. The very being human was constituted spirit, soul, and body. As it is the site of human being’s personality and consciousness, the soul is connected to the spiritual World through human being’s spirit. The soul must decide whether it is to obey the spirit and hence be untied with God and His will or is to yield to the body and all the temptations of the material World. One the occasion of man’s fall the soul resisted the spirit’s authority and became enslaved to the body and its passions. The foundation for the Christian’s deliverance from sin God provides for every believer; all may enter in. It is important to recognize that sin possess power, for it enslaves us. It emits this power incessantly to draw us into obedience to its old man so that we might sin. The Old man represents the sum total of everything we inherit from Adam. We can recognize the old man by knowing what the new man is, because whatever is not of the new man must belong to the old. Our new man embraces everything that flows newly from the Lord at our regeneration. That old man was crucified with the Lord Jesus. When a true is unfolded by God, it most naturally becomes a power in a person, who then finds himself or herself able to believe. Faith comes through revelation. Without the latter the former is impossible. This explains why many do not have faith, for though they mentally understand they do not have God’s revelation. Therefore, the brethren pray until God gives us revelation so that know this in our spirit we may truly confess that our old man has been crucified with Christ. Sin will exercise no dominion over us. The defeatist attitude probably arises from the fact that time always seems to be mysteriously slipping away from us; no sooner do we grasp a bit of it in our conscious than it has slipped away into the past. A spiritual relationship with God leads to freedom. Living righteously is always a genuine decision one makes to remain attentive to the presence and power of God. It is motivated by love and reverence for the One who created us. Every morning when you wake up, set aside sometime to pray and center yourself. The practice of letting your soul be fed by God’s word and praying will prepare you for the day ahead. In everything give thanks and stay determined to remain grateful regardless of what may come your way. Gratitude helps you maintain perspective on who you are in Christ and what He has given you. We must also choose to be loving people and Christ will bless your life. Clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humanity, gentleness, and patience. Everyday is a new opportunity to for improvement. God will be glorified in it, and you will be blessed. This notion of time as something which continually slips past us is based on confusion. When confined to any creature: noting below an infinite good can afford room to stretch itself, and exert its vigor and activity. What! Is a little skin-deep beauty, or some small degree of goodness, to match or satisfy a passion which was made for God: designed to embrace an infinite good? When a soul is fixed on that supreme and all-sufficient good, it finds so much perfection and goodness, as does not only answer and satisfy its affection, but master and overpower it too. It finds all its love to be too faith and languid for such a noble object, and is only sorry that it can command no more. It wishes for the flames of a seraph, and longs for the tie when it shall be wholly melted and dissolved into love; and because it can do so little itself, it desires the assistance of the whole creation, that angels and humans would conquer it the admiration and love of those infinite perfections. We should rejoice to behold the glory of God and receive comfort and pleasure from all the praises wherewith humans and angles do extol him. It should delight us, beyond all expression, to consider, that the beloved of our souls is infinitely happy in himself, and that all his enemies cannot shake or unsettle his throne, that our God is in the Heavens, and does whatever he pleases. Behold, on what sure foundation his happiness is built, whose soul is possessed with divine love, whose will is transformed into the will of God, and whose great desire is, that our Mater should be pleased! Oh, the peace, the rest, the satiation that attends such a temper of mind! It is the nature of faith to believe God upon His bare word. One of the greatest abilities God has given each of us is our ability to believe. If you believe, you can be successful and will fulfill your God-given destiny. I pray that we understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for all who believe. Notice the power is activated only when we believe. That means right now the Creator of the Universe is just waiting to release healing, restoration, promotion, and abundance. The only catch is you have to believe. Our concept of a physical thing as a three-dimensional entity which can move and change, our concept of a physical event as a change in one or more such physical things, and our concept of physical causation as a relation between physical events is a ground-floor empirical fact that we observe things moving and changing. It is not complicated. God did not say, “If you will pray three hours a day,” or “If you will quote thirteen chapters in the Scripture, then I will do it for you.” No. God said, “If you will only believe in me and do what is righteous, I will arrange things in your favor.” When you believe, the surpassing greatness of God’s power is released. #RandolphHarris 10 of 11
In an experiment, subjects were attending to sounds which had audibly terminated, though they were still presented in the sense that the subject could still “hear” them. If we say that a sound which has audibly terminated is still present, this would be inconsistent, for “it has audibly terminated” implies “it is past.” We ought surely to describe the duration of the specious present, as the span of immediate memory for hearing, and to call this a specious present is appropriate. When you believe, God will see to it that it is taken care of. When you believe, you have the Creator of the Universe fighting your battles, arranging things in your favor, going before you, moving the wrong people out of the way. You could not have made it happen in your own strength, but because you are a believer, the surpassing greatness of God’s power is at work in your life. Let this lay a foundation in your spirit. Because you are a believer, all will be well with you. All will be well with your family. All will be well with your finances. All will be well with your health. All will be well with your career. Teen Marriage and Teen Pregnancy and Prostitution
For the wrong done by the captain, all the captains conspire to do greater wrongs; peace is only a name for civil war. Life itself is civil war; and our enemies are more or less strong and numerous, according to circumstances. Teens should not even be having sex, as it is illegal, nor should they be having babies. Teenagers are basically children. Their bodies and brains are not fully developed, so they cannot be fully responsible for their choices and decisions. Not only that, but if you are not fully developed and you get pregnant and have children, it is likely those babies could face psychological issues of developmental issues. There are many teenage prostitutes, in the United States, and Canada. After they have run away from their homes, teenagers often become prostitutes as a means of survival. In their minds, because teens are not fully cognitive, other options for earning money are limited or nonexistent. As one adolescent prostitute reported: There are no doors open to us…How are you going to be able to hold down a job if you have no high school diploma? Well, many teenagers got jobs while they were in high school and graduated and went to college. However, many teenage prostitutes come from privileges families and they sell themselves to their parents’ business partners, and some teen prostitutes come from modest backgrounds, and hook up with their parents’ friends, coworkers, their teachers or religious leaders. And some youth are actually having sexual relationships with their children. And I had no idea about the Catholic priest and the sex scandals, with young boys, until the media broke the story. Just goes to show you, credibility is not linked to your title.
Approximately 95 percent of youth prostitutes have been survivors of sexual abuse or some have been abandoned by their families. Many of these teen prostitutes are not preforming well in school, and have low self-value. Furthermore, about 60 percent of boys and 80 percent of girls, in prostitution, have seriously considered suicide. It is interesting to note that male prostitutes, who are teens, usually do so because they have unstructured and unsupervised home lives, and they also feel rejected by their peers and have few friends. However, some of the females, who are child prostitutes, seek adult attention and affection, and they believe that prostitution is glamorous and fun and exciting. However, the reality of the situation is that having a pimp, walking the streets, or becoming a prostitute is extremely dangerous. There are risk of contracting HIV, 35 percent of prostitutes are known to have HIV, which is a disease that will eat your body alive and anyone who has contact with you sexually or your body fluids can catch it. And it has been noted that in tropical regions, HIV can live outside of the body because it is so humid. There are other serious problems associated with prostitution such as drugs, sharing needles, which can also lead to disease, viruses and death. Children involved in prostitution often suffer emotional distress and have a hard time adjusting to life. Many of them view themselves as sexual objects to be gratified and sold. Sometimes these prostitutes will get traditional jobs, but have problems dealing with the low pay and authority. Therefore, childhood prostitutes may have problems establishing real relationships and will likely engage in other crimes. Some teenage prostitutes work out of their parents’ home, with or without parental consent. Also, prostitutes are highly likes to be beat up, raped and killed. In fact, 80 to 90 percent of childhood prostitutes have been assaulted. An estimated 75 percent of prostitutes have been violently raped in situations not involving their work. And many prostitutes suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Furthermore, 83 percent of prostitutes have been threaten with a weapon, 68 percent have been raped while they were working, and 84 percent of child prostitutes report being homeless (many of them probably ran way). Meanwhile, 88 percent of prostitutes do not like being hookers, and want to escape.
Nonetheless, if the teen is a prostitute and gets pregnant or simply is breaking the law by having underage sex and has a baby, this is not always a good idea, as these youth are not fully developed and need to wait because they could ruin the child’s life. Some teens see a baby as a way to make a man settle down with them and support them. Others see these babies are toys and do not realize how serious the situation is. And because these teens are not financially or mentally stable, they made taunt their children, abuse their or set their child up to fail. And some of these teen prostitutes are likely to be jealous of their children, as they grown up and try to live their life right and might do something to ruin the life of their child. This is not a judgment call, but it is my belief that people should grow up and live life a little, before having a job, settle down, get a career going and buy a house. That way they are ready for the baby and can handle the responsibility. It cost about $500,000.00 to raise a child to age 18, and that does not include college cost. So people make fun of men and women, in their 50s, who have infants, toddlers, and preteens, but I think it is honorable that you took so much time to consider the life of your unborn baby, and waited because you did not want them to suffer unnecessarily. Nonetheless, some want to have children, when they are young, but men can bank their sperm and save it until they are older and the female body can get pregnant, even when women are in their 50s, so there is no need to rush. Take good care of yourself. And young men, please because, I know many of you do not want to admit it, but you are fathers because you got drunk, and a woman took advantage of you and now you are stuck with a baby. All the drinking and drugs that young people tend to do have consequences. Think before you act and know your surroundings. War is the most terrible of all disasters, except dishonor.
