The Perfect Wisdom: Happy Birthday!

On your birthday, you should be surrounded by family and friends and be happy. However, sometimes we just have to learn to accept things as they are and make the best of situations. As we age, on our birthday’s we tend to think about accomplishments, people in our lives that we missed or have passed on, and sometimes even problems that we have experienced in the past and are still healing from. While birthdays are supposed to happy, they are not always. Just know that being alive another year is a blessing, not everyone is so fortunate. We are always creating problems in our lives and have this never-ending set of circumstances and memories we can draw upon to construct problems. Being together makes us remember each other forever. May the flame of strong love Spring up in our heart. Last night missing knocks at your door and window after surmounting mountains and rivers. In the morning do you often find there are dearer and more translucent tear drops on the flower petals on the window? What is significant is that we are creating problems. We are using the energy available to us, using our mind and emotions, to construct an issue. We are constructing that something is happening that should not be happening. The love course of life shines in the corner of life obscurely like leisurely clouds, which drift slowly, illuminating our hearts and warming our life. All of these remind us of the happiness, disconsolation in the past years. Once together with you, we walked through that beautiful song and that momentary magnificence is well worthy of my life-long memory. Please smile, my dear. If you weep, my face will be wetted; if you grieve, my heart will ache.

My heart will be with you forever as long as you are honest to me, I never change my mind at the crossroad of love. We have a very real experience that there is actually nothing wrong with what is happening. We are unperturbed. There is no problem. Your name will always resound in my heart proudly; let my compatriots hear this loud and happy song and this song is your name. Love is a key to the secret of life. With love subtracted, life will become tasteless and colorless. You are a role model because you are real and true. Sweet love between us is like a song of happiness. Beautiful melody and notes fill our life with happiness. Love is a taciturn agreement between two hearts. A glance between a pair in love tells me far more love’s essence than a huge encyclopedia. In our minds sometimes questions arise such as: What is this? Where am I? Am I moving forward or backward? Am I moving at all? Is there something special I should be doing? Who am I? Each of these inquiries is a key that can unlock the conceptual mind and take us into the unknown. The gentleness of you at the time you lower your head is as charming as hibiscus rising out of water. I miss you deeply. Love is a great happiness to human. Love means that a man not only demands happiness from life, but also presents happiness to the beloved. By letting out thoughts ride, fixed ideas about who we are and what we are doing can dissolve into the infinite expanse of unconditioned awareness.

Give me a flawless memory and a pure friendship. Give me a gentle heart and an eternal beauty. Let us pray that all corruption on Earth stops immediately. It is wrong to neglect all the other meanings of life merely for love, as the first meanings of life is to live. Man has to live, and then love will have something to fall back on. Love is calling of the heart; love is selfishless dedication. It is like Spring breeze in the World and the Spring of life. The World will turn to a happy World as long as we give our honest love out. Sometimes we have to ask questions to check the quality and purity of the unconditioned experience. We can also direct these questions to ourselves. Normally, however, we ask questions only when someone is in a fairly open and spacious state of being. These questions reveal whether a person is resting in a structured or unstructured state. An example of a checking questions: Could you enhance this experience? Enjoy the feelings of peace and serenity that arise when our thoughts dissolve. I see no more harm in killing a man than taking his property; marry, I think it the least sin of the two; for poverty is greater evil than death. We can ask: Is there anything we are required to do to be in the moment? This will give us direct feedback on where our mate is. Or we might ask if the experience is pleasurable or peaceful. On the balance of love, I prefer to be a tiny gauge graduating rather than be the heavier weight measuring the distance between heart. Your heart always comforts me and makes me feel the beauty of life and the hope for the future. My shooting stars bring my yearning to you. My heart is always concerned about you. The past ours to my mind all of a sudden with the endless yearning. When I miss you, my nights are more than days. Bright stars cover my sky many times, but I only care for the brightness silently and imagine that all of my days are full of Sunshine because of you.

Bien Sur Qu’il me Pardonnera

I feel that none of them has contributed anything of real value to mental science of Cinematography since split themselves from the master. The master himself has actively continued his life’s work despite the bad injuries for over fourteen years. Watching his productions which have appeared within the last few years, one is impressed with the same fluency, alertness, and brilliancy that have always characterized his works. His disciples, of who there are many the World over, have made impressive contributions to the mental sciences, but a deep study of these productions will show nothing that is so novel as not to have been anticipated or implied by the master himself. We who follow him realize this full well, and most of us feel that this state of affairs will continue until his thoughts shall have been better assimilated and more fully developed. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 4

That the World which at first turned its back on him has now recognized his great services to science and culture and film and television is shown by the many honors that have been showered upon him within the last few years. To mention only one of many: His eightieth birthday was an international event. It was celebrated in Vienna at the Wiener Konzerthas and was attended by distinguished scientist, celebrities, and dignities from Vienna and abroad. The birthday oration, which was delivered by his father, Richard Phillippe, is a masterpiece which has been translated into many languages. Here is a excerpt: “The luxuriance of life is attributed to the bounty of the land and the success of children to the bringing-up of the parents. Against your broad and warm heart, I feel keenly the dedication of love. I am proud of you my son.” #RyanPhillippe 2 of 4

In life, we like to limit story construction. Then we can inquire into the existence of reality behind the concept and dissolve the painful feelings associated with fixed ways of thinking. Another simple way to deconstruct a problem is to disidentify with it. We do this by shifting our perspective and seeing what we are doing from a more spacious and detached point of view. Sometimes it is good for a person to stop and ask themselves, “What am I doing right now?” Or what would you say if I randomly asked you, “What would you say you are doing now?” This is an invitation to see what we are doing, as though we were observing from the outside. Often, with no prompting or suggestion, people will say, “I see. I am complaining.” Or, “I am indulging in self-pity.” “I am justifying my rage.” “I am invalidating an accomplishment.” And so on. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 4

Some gain love for their words and some for their deeds. When we look at ourselves from the outside, we see what we are doing in contrast to just doing it. This either corrects a bad behavior or produces detachment and peace. It seems all news cut off after we left each other for several years. The yearning to you left me hardly wanting to eat anything. The farther the distance was, the deeper the yearning. The longer we leave each other, the deeper we miss each other. How on the steps of a rich man’s house a youth met a few shnorrers. The latter counseled him to depart, saying, “Do not go up today, the Baron is out of sorts and refuses to give any one more than a dollar.” “I will go up anyway,” replied one of the Baron’s friends. “Why in the World should I make him a present of a dollar? Is he making me any presents?” I look forward to seeing you, I want to tell you, “Come back, dearest man!” through the white clouds flying in the sky. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 4

This Incongruous Monster, the Public

Like the Watergate concertos, just when development gets crucial the tape gets jammed. Together we have shared our own private fantasy of sitting quietly before a crackling fire in a snowbound cabin in the woods. It had been peaceful and beautiful. I think when we started, if anything would have bothered me, it would have been the people watching last week. However, it did not bother me at all. I really felt good, like, you would have missed the best part if you had missed last week. Everyone laughed uproaringly as we shared the fantasy World together. It was a very warm feeling. I think it was especially meaningful to me, too, in terms of being able to break down the fear that I have had of relationships. And last week, I really finally realized that I had self-control with it. I can have a warm, close, enjoyable relationship and not get carried away and feel guilty about it. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 6

Our conversations have turned to the dramatic changes which had taken place in me. Initially, I had come across as such an uninteresting people, a little child, an emotionally flat person. But lately, you said that I have come through as so alive. You are the person I contact in times of great happiness and other reasons. What an incredible Spring it has been. For our most recent time together we chose not to be observed. I was thinking you have changed my life. These deconstructive conversations dismantle the foundations of our conceptual constructions and thereby allowing us to experience the unstructured, natural mind. They penetrate the seeming reality of feelings, emotions, and sensations in a way that dissolves their existence. The truth cannot always be told openly, but somehow it does come out. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 6

The annoyance and displeasure caused by “all that talk” and by the peculiar prickling sensations, represented the pangs of conscience, or the feeling of guilt which accompanied the phantasies. The distortion in this whole picture consisted of a fusion of feelings and ideas which had played a part in the conflict in the mind of a sensitive person. I could not decide one way or the other, so I tore myself entirely away from reality and behaved, as we say, deresitically. I abandoned all logic and objectified my phantasies in disguised fashion. However, no human being who has been brought up under the system of logic and morality which prevails in our civilization can disengage himself entirely from his past. No matter how bizarre and beautiful the dream appears, one knows that dreams can and do come true. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 6

No matter how anxious we are to hide our true nature in adjusting ourselves to the repressive forces of civilization, repression sometimes fails and our real desires come to the surface. The dream is a hidden fulfillment of a repressed wish, or a direct attempt to obtain in phantasy what is denied us in reality. Wit is a direct effort to make use of distortions in order to obtain pleasure from otherwise forbidden sources. On thinking of you, I cannot help saying that if there were more people like you how much more beauty would be added to the World. I really do not know how to express my thanks for your gift and kindness. You brought me so much happiness. Only at such a moment can one really understand a profound relationship. We like to tell joke and listen to them because for the moment we not only forget inexorable reality, but also obtain pleasure at the expense of our hardships. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 6

Still, in all these phenomena, we remain in touch with reality. Normally when we listen to people talking, we assume that they are actually telling us means something: that there is some truth or reality to what they are saying. There is a strong consensual pressure to listen in this way. When we do not understand what people are saying, we still assume it is meaningful. We typically try to work out what they meaningful. We typically try to work out what they mean by inviting them to say more. When we listen to a story from the unconditioned mind, there is no intrinsic meaning. We no longer assume their suffering is real or fictitious. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 6

What seems to be happening may or may not be happening. This opens up the possibility of engaging with someone’s construction from a place of total innocence and freshness. We have learned to speak and listen from the beginner’s mind—gazing with sheer awareness into sheer awareness, habitual, abstract structures melt into the fruitful Springtime of 2016. You are so considerate in expressing in a touchingly generous way to me your congratulations, which I will immensely treasure as a gift so as to express my thanks for your heartfelt regards. #RyanPhillippe 6 of 6

Let us Start Fresh—the World is Always on the Side of Prudence

The opinion man forms of his own prudence is measured by that of the company he keeps. I am required to learn how to get satisfaction out of being an adult, which, in some ways, I have started to do—some of the things we talked about last week. I had been grow up and learn to be happy in the moment. Some satisfying activities are going to the art museum and touring historic mansions and castles, I also enjoy nature. I just enjoy being with you and that is perfect for me. I am seeing that I can be invested in you and not totally lose my identity, because I think my identity is getting stronger. The transformation process proves exhilarating. A person combines the vital self in the pieces with the intended self of the parts. One becomes more truly one. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 11

I really have something to offer people—my enthusiasm, my openness, my willingness to learn, plus some real intelligence that I was willing to put work in this situation. I also made some decisions—nothing Earth-shattering, but simple and real. Whether or not to go to a party when I feel the requirement to study—but before it would have been hard for me to decide. The ambivalence was still there—I still am required to study—to stay in the room alone and study with no big regrets. Sometimes I feel very much like a helpless baby, wanting to curl up with your arms around me. Some days there is a little regression, maybe it marks the more adult relationship growing between us. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 11

We have been practicing pure listening, which is supposed to create an affinity for bringing about more successful interpersonal relationships. We listen to each other and do not add anything, nor take away any meaning from what is being communicated. I feel like this listening is pure because you hear me without any interference. There is no static between us. We get things exactly as they are. When you listen to me with this degree of purity, it is like you are a blank slate because you are not judging me nor jumping to conclusions. You are like a clear mirror, receiving exactly what is communicated—nothing more and nothing less. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 11

Normally, most people listen to others with a filter of reactions and assessments. Whether or not we overtly express them, we constantly validate and invalidate what people are saying and doing. However, validation and invalidation also have more subtler expressions. For example, simply thinking “I understand” is a form of agreement. Saying “Yes” or even just nodding can be interpreted as a signaling agreement. In contrast, spacing out, looking restless, or just thinking “How much longer are they going to go on?” are forms of invalidation. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 11

When we listen through a screen of judgments and assessments we distort the natural flow of people’s experience. A beneficial listening pumps energy into a construction. A negative listening takes energy away. Whenever we agree with someone, we tacitly encourage them to continue what they are doing. Our contribution prolongs an emotional or intellectual construction by giving it attention and beneficial energy. On the other hand, when we disagree we interrupt the flow of someone’s experience. We undermine a construction. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 11

When we listen from nothing, we hear everything. We are in an equal and intimate contact with ourselves and the people with whom we are in communication. There is no distinction between ourselves and others. The space of pure listening contains all speaking and listening without privileging either. Communication arises as a beautifully coordinated display of nonmanipulative speaking and listening. It is the only form of communication that respects the integrity of the speaker and the listener. And the only form of communication that can take us beyond our conditioned identities, into an experience of the unconditioned mind. #RyanPhillippe 6 of 11

Healing occurs through the practice of noninterference. When we let things be as they are, contracted emotions can often dissipate more quickly than if we meddle and interfere. The ability to let things be, without judgment or reflection, is an important component of the spiritual journey. We simply create space around a problem, and let it run its course and dissipate of its own accord. Do not condition your mind by trying to suppress your experience, apply an antidote, or mechanically transform it, but let your mind fall naturally into whatever condition you find it. This is the incontrovertible essence of what is officially meaningful. #RyanPhillippe 7 of 11

Open up the possibility of liberating disturbing thoughts and feelings by doing nothing! This is called self-liberation or natural release. How does this work? Behind every experience of suffering is resistance. We are either resisting what is happening, or resisting losing it. When we identify what we are resisting and let go, we are immediately free and complete. For as long as we resist, our suffering persists! Emotions and limiting beliefs liberate naturally from within themselves once they are experienced without resistance. When there is nothing to fight against, there is no fight. There is no struggle. Instead there is peace and freedom. This is a very gentle way to release suffering and conflict. #RyanPhillippe 8 of 11

The conflict is stopping. We simply stop trying to confront or avoid what we are experiencing. We let go of the tremendous amount of energy we expand, each and every day, trying to control and manipulate existence. We are creating an environment and there is a natural release of fixed beliefs and frozen emotions by offering each other an open and nonjudgmental space that lets things be, just as they are. This is an extremely respectful way for us to work with each other because we are not judging where we are now, or how we should be. We give permission for things to be exactly as they are. With this we experience freedom and release. #RyanPhillippe 9 of 11

Giving permission for things to be as they are does not mean that everything is perfect. However, I believe you are perfect as you are. Sometimes acknowledging who we are, as the starting point of our relationship, and once we recognize who we are, there is no one else we can be—nor any requirement or possibility to be anyone else—and hence the fulfillment of our path. At the real point of departure there is no where else we are required to go. However, often we cannot just let go of our resistance in one bold gesture. It feels too risky. However, we can learn to recognize the point where problems naturally dissolve. #RyanPhillippe 10 of 11

Each time we energize a potentially stressful situation we also have the opportunity to let it return to a harmonious state. We have to tune into the points where problems and heavy emotions begin to dissolve by themselves. By recognizing this process, we can return to an equilibrium and balance. We recognize the seed of harmony that rests at the heart of every conflict and anticipate the blending and dissolving of conflictual beliefs before they disturb us and throw us into alienating and painful situations. A pleasant mood and the ensuing good health are the biggest capital for happiness. Wish you a cheerful mood and longevity. #RyanPhillippe 11 of 11

It is Noble to See a Man’s Hands Subdued to What He Works in

A vast deal of coolness, and a peculiar degree of judgment, are requisite in catching a hat. For me, it seems like something is missing in my life and sometimes it is hard to enjoy the moment because there are things I want to do and people I want to spend time with and I get anxious and start missing them or desiring their company or wanting to go places to have fun. There is just something so exciting about the nightclub, the light, music blaring through the speakers, and all the people having a good time. However, in order to awaken the unconditioned mind, we are required to live in a state of ongoing completion. We are required to be complete with the past and fearless about the future. When we are complete we do not need to think about what we have done, or what we will be doing. This allows us to fully encounter the next moment.

There are two ways in which we create incompletions. Either we do not do what is required to be done, or we do what does not need to be done. Often we find out why some precious seconds, minutes, hours, or days afterwards, when we sense that we have been careless or unconscious with our words or deeds. When our actions come from the conditioned mind they are not optimally responsive to the requirements of them moment. We are unable to read and respond to the uniqueness of each situation because we were operating from a model of what has worked in the past. However, it is also possible to tune into the present moment with a subtlety and depth that lets us sense the potential of our speech and behavior to condition the future. In fact, this sensitivity and care arises naturally when we connect with the unconditioned mind.

When we grow as a person, traditions and nature of the spiritual path change from one of avoiding suffering and pursuing pleasure to one of expanding our capacity to be present to everything that human life can produce—open to the full force and richness of our conditioned existence. We develop a capacity to receive all experiences without fear or addiction. Suffering is not necessarily something wrong—as something that should not happen to us. Problems are natural. We all suffer, and will learn to handle problems better as we walk down our journey in life. We stop making a problem out of having problems! We accept the basic structure and patterns of our experience—our life circumstances, not in a defeatist way, but with dignity and grace. We welcome what is as a gateway to the unconditioned mind.

When we try to escape the burden of boring and limiting thoughts, it is difficult to be effortlessly present. Initial access to the unconditioned mind can be greatly enhanced by slowing our thinking down so that we feel peaceful and serene. If a person’s thoughts are racy or disturbed, a crucial step is to help them slow down and discover a place where they are more composed and less urgent. We do not need to eliminate thoughts completely. We are just required to arrive at the point where thoughts can float through awareness without producing disturbance. This is called serenity. A heart at ease flies into no extremes-it is ever on its center. A man who is master of himself can end a sorrow as easily as he can invent pleasure.

The most direct and effective way to slow down our thinking is to give ourselves nothing to think about. This is logical. If we have nothing to think about we have fewer thoughts. And thinking about nothing also reveals the unconditioned mind. The two practices support each other. Thoughts are thinned out by not feeding the interpretive process, by not digging for problems, by not offering anything to think about. Stay in intimate communication and relationship without pushing your mind to be so active. You do not have to figure everything out. Just take some time to rest and relax.

Experiences of bliss arise in the slipstream of the unconditioned mind. The supremely blissful state of natural rest—is sublime stability, spontaneously present without having to be cultivated. These experiences occur like clockwork when our thinking slows down and we move into more subtle states of consciousness. These experiences can be profoundly healing, especially for people who deprive themselves of pleasure. They are medicine for the mind and the spirit. They soothe our minds and repair the damage done to our nervous system by pain and trauma. However, like all conditioned experiences, bliss comes and goes. When you are healing, there is still further to go. There is at least this good thing of toil, that it takes the nonsense and fancy-work out of a human, and leaves nothing but what truly belongs to one.

Secrets and Lies—Ring the Bell for Landlady

Furnished rooms with running water, steam heat, and elevator! I had a long talk with some old lover’s ghost, who died before the God of love was born. You are going to think that I am crazy when I tell you this, but there is a ghost dressed in armor who walks around our house at night. And there are cold spots and objects that have moved from room to room of their own volition. When Ryan went to investigate the house, he almost immediately lost a prize pen. It was a rather expensive pen, distinguished by a bent clip and silver ornamentation—it could not be mistaken for another. Ryan Phillippe: I had hardly set it down on the koffee table in front of me before it disappeared. I had only been in the room a few seconds, my pen and notebook sitting there before me. Then when I went to pick up my pen, it was gone. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 37

Of course we looked under the furniture thinking that it might have rolled off—but it had not. No one had left the room. No one had picked it up without my noticing. The pen simply was not there. Finally, we just gave up and went on with the investigation. A few minutes later, I found my pen in a rear bedroom of the house. How do you explain that one? One day, I was to examine a strange young man at his mother’s home. As he came towards me, I was attracted by a large stain on his trousers which by its peculiar stiff edges, I recognized as one produced by albumen. After a moment’s embarrassment, the young man excused this stain by remarking that he was hoarse and therefore drank a raw egg, and that some of the slippery white of the egg had probably fallen on his clothes. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 37

To confirm his statements, he showed the eggshell which could still be seen on a small plate in his room. The suspicious spot was thus explained in this harmless way; but as his mother left us alone, I thanked him for having so greatly facilitated the diagnosis for me, and without further procedure, I took as the topic of our discussion his confession that he was suffering from the effects of masturbation. Another time, I called on a woman as rich as she was miserly and foolish, who was in the habit of giving the physician the task of working his way through a heap of her complaints before he could reach the simple cause of her condition. As I entered, she was sitting at a small table engaged in arranging silver dollars in little piles: as she arose, she tumbled some of the pieces of money to the floor. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 37

I helped her pick them up, but interrupted the recitation of her misery by remarking: “Has your good son-in-law been spending so much of your money again?” She bitterly denied this, only to relate a few moments later the lamentable story of the aggravation caused by her son-in-law’s extravagances. And she has not sent for me since. It was ordained as a scourge upon the pride of human wisdom that the wisest of us all should outwit ourselves. I cannot maintain that one always makes friends of those to whom he tells the meaning of the symptomatic actions. Dr. Hans Phillippe related the following: #RyanPhillippe 4 of 37

I happened to be present when an antiquated couple related to me partook of their supper. The lady had stomach trouble and was forced to follow a strict diet. A roast was out before the husband, and he requested his wife, who was not allowed to partake of this food, to give him the mustard. The wife opened the closet and took out a small bottle of stomach drops, and placed it on the table before her husband. Between the barrel-shaped mustard glass and the small drop bottle, there was naturally no similarity through which the mishandling could be explained; yet the wife only noticed the mistake after her husband laughingly called her attention to it. The sense of this symptomatic actions requires no explanation. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 37

I took a pill in Studio 54 to show Myers I was cool, and when I finally got sober, felt ten years older, but fuck it, it was something to do. I am living out in LA, I drive sports cars just to prove I am a real big baller because I made over one hundred million dollars, and I save it all. However, you do not want to be high like me, never really knowing why like me. You do not ever want to step off that roller coaster and be all alone. You do not want to ride the bus like this, you do not want to be stuck up on that station singing that same old song. For an excellent example of this kind which was very skillfully utilized by the observer, I am indebted to Dr. Bernh. Dattner: #RyanPhillippe 6 of 37

When going to the art museums with Ryan, it feels like we are on the same level, he may know more about art than I do, but I have somethings that I can share and also learn from the things he tells me. Sometimes he likes to be catered to, he just wants someone to be quite and listen to him. He really has something to offer, feeling of responsiveness and I see him coming along on this journey with a new hope of love from me. We have agreed to take a professional leadership program together, it is much easier being in love with somebody you are not married to, because you do not have to turn his undershirts back the right way. #RyanPhillippe 7 of 37

I dined in a restaurant with my colleague H., a doctor of philosophy. He spoke about the injustice done to the probationary students, and added that even before he finished his studies, he was placed as a secretary to the ambassador, or rather the Minister plenipotentiary to California. However, he added, ‘the minister was afterwards transferred, and I did not make any effort to meet the newly appointed.’ While uttering the last sentence, he was lifting a piece of pie to his mouth, but he let it drop as if out of awkwardness. I immediately grasped the hidden sense of this symptomatic action, and remarked to my colleague, who was unacquainted with psychoanalysis, ‘You really allowed a very choice morsel to slip from you.’ #RyanPhillippe 8 of 37

He did not realize, however, that my words could equally refer to his symptomatic action, and he repeated the same words I uttered with a peculiarly agreeable and surprising vividness, as if I had actually taken the words from his mouth: ‘It was really a very choice morsel that I allowed to get away from me.’ He then followed this remark with a detailed description of this clumsiness which cost him this very remunerative position. “The sense of this symbolic action becomes clearer if we remember that my colleague had scruples about telling me, almost a perfect stranger, concerning his precarious material situation, and his repressed thought took on the mask of symptomatic action which expressed symbolically what was meant to be concealed, and the speaker thus got relief from his unconscious.” #RyanPhillippe 9 of 37

Principles are not always the only means of rendering man capable to face every storm. Price must bear pain; but is recompensed by pride. In 1906, San Francisco, California USA, with a population of more than 400,000, was the largest city on America’s West Coast. What happened to it shortly after 5.00a.m. on Wednesday, 18 April 1906, was a disaster equal to what remote triggering Earthquake connected across the ocean that recently struck Japan and India 16 April 2016. Both Earthquakes occurred in the Ring of Fire, which is a horseshoe-shaped area, lined with a string of volcanoes and know for seismic activities or Earthquakes around the edges of the Pacific Ocean. #RyanPhillippe 10 of 37

What did you do last Saturday? To kick off the 110th Birthday of the 1906 Earthquake in San Francisco, California, and Ecuador, we experienced to huge preparties on Saturday, 16 April 2016. At least 41 people were killed in the latest Earthquake in Kyushu, Japan, on 16 April 2016, which was a magnitude 7.0, aftershocks and landslides have made a dire situation worse, and at least 23 people have been buried inside of buildings. More than 968 have been injured, and 91,700 evacuated, 775 homes damaged, and 90 houses destroyed. In the Ecuador Earthquake, at least 413 people confirmed dead, the 7.8-magnitude Earthquake struck Ecuador’s Pacific coast on Saturday, 16 April 2016. #RyanPhillippe 11 of 37

Although Ecuador was hit by a magnitude-7.8 Earthquake, and Japan by a magnitude-7.0 Earthquake, but the Ecuador Earthquake was almost 16 times stronger. On 31 January 1906, a magnitude-8.8 Earthquake occurred off the coast of Ecuador and Colombia, generating a tsunami that killed an estimated 500 to 1,500 individuals. It was the strongest Earthquake in recorded World history. It also snowed in Sacramento, California. Earthquakes between 7.0 and 7.9 magnitude occur about 15 times a year. Speaking of Earthquakes from 1906 when the San Andreas fault began rupturing at 5.13 am, under the waves of the Pacific Ocean, 90 miles west of the city, the massive Earthquake races down the California coast at two miles per second. #RyanPhillippe 12 of 37

Damaged electrical wires and overturned coal stoves sparked fires in a city where 90 percent of the houses were made of wood. Dozens of smaller fires merged into one, and the city’s 585 firefighters were helpless in the face of the conflagration, not least since underground water mains had been destroyed. In a desperate move, it was decided that the hoses standing in the path of the advancing blasé would be destroyed by cannon fire and explosives, creating a firebreak 175 feet wide. Large sections of the city were saved by this savvy act, although it took four full days to extinguish all the fires. However, some say the fires were set for different reasons. #RyanPhillippe 13 of 37

He considers his most fascinating hunting to have occurred in Inglewood. It is the only case where he has personally encountered direct malevolent activity. The manifestation began, he says, with apparitions of deceased prior occupants. Many of the neighbors who did not know that the former owners were dead continued to see them at their daily chores about the house and the grounds. Strange circumstances have centered twice around the gift shop. One evening, Ryan locked all the doors, then we he was leaving, he found the door leading to the courtyard unlocked. He was alone in the building at the time. He walked out the hose, shutting off all the lights. After locking up, he walked out to the parking lot, then turned to look back at the house. It was black. He proceeded across the street to his car. As he started to drive away, he looked up to see the entire third floor ablaze with lights. #RyanPhillippe 14 of 37

Some people suspected people like Mark Hopkins, William Wirt Winchester, Sarah Winchester, and William Randolph Hearst to be vampires. It was not understood how these men could amass some of the largest fortunes in such a short life time, while most others were living in makeshift shelters on sidewalks, in the hills, wherever they could, as they had been n New Orleans’s experience our time or the time of our immediate forebears. You would not believe your eyes, but you must. How many gods rampaged through the Western United States during the four-day super outbreak of 1906? (Hint: There were way more than a hundred.) You have to understand the factors at play when nature unleashes its furry. Some report the fires and explosions started before the Earthquake. #RyanPhillippe 15 of 37

Armed officers patrolled Market Street. By and large, the citizenry behaved admirably in the aftermath. There was hardly any rioting, and remarkable as it may seem, Wednesday night, while the whole city crashed and roared into ruin, was a quiet night….There was no shouting nor yelling. There was no hysteria, no disorder. Ten of thousands of homeless ones. Some were wrapped in blankets. Others carried bundles of bedding and dear household treasures. Sometimes a whole family was harnessed to a carriage or delivery wagon that was weighted down with their possessions. Not a single whine or plaintive word did I hear from the hundreds of losers whom I spoke to. Instead of that there was a temper of helpfulness beyond counting. #RyanPhillippe 16 of 37

The ghosts of defunct bodies fly–people were literally shaken awake at 5.13am, on several occasions individuals inside the house saw a variety of objects being flung about or floating through the air. Doors and windows opened and closed of their own accord and the sounds of a man walking about the house were heard. They also noticed that a display case remained dust free as if it were being polished daily while other pieces of furniture in the unoccupied hose were heavily laden with dust. Many of the neighbors who did not know that the former owners were dead continued to see them at their daily chores about the house and the grounds. #RyanPhillippe 17 of 37

The house was startling to everyone—but nearly fatal to me. As some twenty people watched, one of the sitters—the grandson of a deceased prior occupant of the house—became violent and suddenly attacked me. He seemed to snarl as his fingers tightened about my throat. The man’s actions were like one possessed. “Get out of my house! This is my house!” It took five large men to drag him off me—they had to knock him unconscious to do it. When the man came to, he had no recollection of what had happened. His last memory was of someone saying, “Get out of my house.” #RyanPhillippe 17.2 of 37

During the attack by the twenty-five-year-old man, the others present did not see him attack me. Instead, they saw an older, larger, white haired man. The attack broke up the evening. The next day I revived a call from a neighbor. He claimed to have seen the old man out in the yard and heard the sounds of something being smashed inside the house. Upon our return the next evening, we observed that all the furniture with the exception of the well-dusted display case had been thrown to the floor. The house was littered with broken glass and almost every drawer had been pulled out, like some dope fiend had been looking for the rent money in the sock drawer, and its contents were strewn about on the floor. #RyanPhillippe 18 of 37

It should be noted that the grandson who had attacked me elected to subject himself to intensive psychological testing in order to determine whether he had a latent capacity for unprovoked violence of this degree. His psychiatric and psychological profile indicated that there was no such tendency, and he never so much as got a parking ticket, never been arrested. I could only conclude from this that his mind and body had somehow been seized by the grandfather, who for his own reasons, resented my presence in the house. A surprising postscript occurred a few months later when the owners decided to add on to the rare of their home. While digging the foundation, workmen uncovered graves containing skeletons dressed in armor of the type worn by the Spanish conquistadors. #RyanPhillippe 19 of 37

Chance or symptomatic actions occurring in affairs of married life have often a most serious significance, and could lead those who do not concern themselves with the psychology of the unconscious to a belief in omens. It is not an auspicious beginning if a young woman loses her wedding ring on her wedding tour, even if it is only mislaid and soon found. I know a woman, now divorced, who in the management of her business affairs frequently signed her maiden name many years before she actually resumed it. Hardly, to judge from the weird tales surrounding the house. Over the years a variety of psychic phenomena have been reported—chains rattling, door knobs turning at 3am by themselves, whispers, footsteps—a Gothic thriller seemingly come to life. #RyanPhillippe 20 of 37

Once, I was the guest of a newly married couple and heard the young woman laughingly relate her last experience, how, on the day, succeeding her returning from the wedding tour, she had sought out her single sister in order to go shopping with her as in former times, while her husband was attending business. Suddenly she noticed a man on the opposite side of the street; nudging her sister she said, “Why, that is surely Mr. L.” She forgot that some weeks this man had been her husband. I was chilled at this tale, but I did not dare draw any inferences. The little story came back to me only several years later, after this marriage had ended most unhappily. #RyanPhillipppe 21 of 37

People love to embellish the story to say that the eerie sounds of a woman crying was gunned down by an irate husband. It did not happen. One night he wakened suddenly smelling the acrid odor of burnt wood. Switching on the light, Ryan found the room charred almost beyond recognition. A woman knelt in the corner, keening miserably and cradling a baby in her arms. As he watched frozen with fear, the image slowly faded. The woman disappeared and the room resumed its normal appearance. The story goes the mother died in childbirth. Whatever his indiscretions, the man died of natural causes in 1879. His remains were taken from the mansion and interred in a nearby graveyard. Some say that was the end of it. Some say not. #RyanPhillippe 22 of 37

A friend who has learned to observe signs related to me that the great actress Eleanor Duse introduced a symptomatic action into one of the roles which shows a very nicely from what depth she drew her acting. It was a drama dealing with adultery; she had just been in discussion with her husband and now stood soliloquizing before the seducer made his appearance. During this short interval, she played with her wedding ring, she pulled it off, replaced it and finally took it off again. She was now ready for the other. I have seen him. He looks exactly like his picture on the stairs. Joyce, remembers the time when she showed a guest through the hotel. Suddenly the woman turned pale and ran outside, later explaining that a spectral man had stood behind Joyce and was rubbing on her booty, nodding his head approvingly as she recounted the building’s history. #RyanPhillippe 23 of 37

I know of an antiquated man, who married a young girl, and instead of starting at once on his wedding tour, at the mansion, he decided to spend the night in a hotel. Scarcely had they reached the hotel, when he noticed with fright that he was without his wallet, in which he had the entire sum of money for the wedding tour; he must have mislaid or lost it. He was still able to reach his servant by telephone; the latter found the missing article in the coat discarded for the travelling clothes and brought it to the hotel to the waiting bridegroom, who had thus entered upon his marriage without means. Shortly afterwards, Phillippe’s son, Randolph, asked him who was staying in the “George’s room.”
“No one right now,” his father replied.
“Oh, yes there is,” the boy answered. “A man just came out and asked me to be quiet.” #RyanPhillippe 24 of 37

Stories proliferate. In Room 2, guests report seeing a Victorian woman. In Room 3, they see a little boy. Maids make up the beds in Rooms 10 and 11, returning later to find them torn up with what look like albumen. The wildest story is the midnight cattle drive down the Main Street—sounds of mooing, hoof beats and cowbells. Guests have rushed to the window only to see a dark, deserted street. When Jane was cleaning the dining room after a party, using three keys to lock three doors before leaving late at night. She returned the next morning, unlocked all the doors and found the room in disarray. A hoax seems unlikely, it was so elaborate—a lot of trouble to execute and difficult to conceal. #RyanPhillippe 25 of 37

Then, there is the afternoon that the former hotel manager Shana Molotch landed on the ice machine in the former dungeon chatting with a plumber. “Is this place haunted?” he asked. Shana Molotch shrugged, “People believe what they want to believe.” The next moment Shana became an instead believer when something shoved hard enough to knock her forward. Red marks remained on her shoulder two day. Most recently, Shana Molotch was startled when a guest reported seeing a variety of ghosts—three mischievous boys and a man with beautiful pastel eyes and a mustache who looks like James Dean’s photograph. Most specifically, an apparition in Room 11 had a message for her, “Tell Shana that I am watching.” #RyanPhillippe 26 of 37

It is consoling to think that the “losing of objects” by people is merely an unsuspected extension of a symptomatic action, and us thus welcome at least to the secret intention of the loser. Often it is only an expression of slight appreciation of the lost article, a secret dislike for the same, or perhaps for the person from whom it came, or the desire to lose this object was transferred to it from other and more important objects through symbolic association. The loss of valuable articles serves as an expression of diverse feelings; it may either symbolically represent a repressed thought—that is, it may bring memory which one would rather not hear—or it may represent a sacrifice to the obscure forces of fate, the worship of which is not yet entirely extinct even with us. #RyanPhillippe 27 of 37

These as well as other similar experiences have caused me to think that the actions executed unintentionally must inevitably become the source of misunderstanding in human relations. A guest at the Senator Hotel on L Street, in Sacramento, California USA, who wishes to maintain her privacy, is very clear about what she saw and heard after a man barricaded himself in a car parked right across the street from the Castle at California Capitol, 18 April 2016. A spirit with swept up hair and a rather stylish Victorian clothing who gave her name as Aaliyah. Aaliyah says, is “a strong presence.” What exactly does the spirit mean? “Is she reassuring me or saying, ‘Watch out’?” #RyanPhillippe 28 of 37

The hotel owners decided to call in a team of “ghost busters.” Mark Boccuzzi heads the Bay Area Paranormal Investigations, assisted by Scott Mossbaugh, co-founder, and five field technicians, Nancy Benson, Stacey Ellis, Ryan Phillippe and Lori and Jamie Fike. Their day jobs include teaching, engineering, and accounting. Sacramento police said they received a call about 18 April 2016, at 1.50p.m. about a man sitting in his car, blocking traffic on L Street, just north of the state Capitol. He was honking and screaming out of his silver sedan. The car had a lot of graffiti, as well as posters with religious and political rhetoric on them. #RyanPhillippe 29 of 37

Within a few moments, Sacramento’s finest arrived on scene, risking their lives, and began evacuating people dining at nearby restaurants. California Highway Patrol helped and the Sacramento Fire Department. CHP said the Capitol Castle was not on a full lock down, but they cleared the north section of the building as a precaution. They moved an Assembly committee hearing to the Senate side and closed the dungeon, which is now a museum. The team began its case study by drawing a detailed floor plan to establish a frame of reference. Experiments were recorded on the map, test for environmental anomalies—anything out of the norm. “Cold hard science is where it is at for us. We get a visceral rush from exploring something new, finding ways to best examine the situation to determine what is really going on.” #RyanPhillippe 30 of 37

Police said for two hours they had their SWAT tactical teams and hostage negotiators trying to talk to the man. They were acting with an abundance of caution, moving the public back further every hour. Ryan reports that he was fearful for his son’s life and it reminded him of 25th August 2001, and 11 September 2001 when he lost people he loved. This is the exact sport he meets his son at every day and did not know if her had been hard or was being held hostage. “We do not believe that this is some part of a larger threat. All we know is this is a barricaded individual in a vehicle. We are not sure what his intentions are,” Officer Matt McPhail of the Sacramento Police Department reported. #RyanPhillippe 31 of 37

The team uses a tri field meter to measure electric magnetic frequencies. They had thermometers to record cold spots, compasses to mark deviations from the field map and a wide variety of cameras and recorders—millions of dollars worth of highly advanced equipment. The suspect, a young man wearing a black tank top and red sweat pants, stepped out of his car. The Sacramento Police Department’s explosive devices team member used their robots to search inside the car. Police announced about 7p.m. that they had found a suspicious device in the vehicle and were in the process of rendering it safe. #RyanPhillippe 32 of 37

Dagmar Morrow, a Mountain View medium, accompanied the team. At first she felt overwhelmed by impressions. “So many spirits have memories of the castle,” she said. “Imagine 150 years of passion and intrigue. Some of them are rather mischievous. It is as though they are teasing, ‘Find out about us if you can’.” Slowly, Mrs. Morrow sorted the out. In the dungeon, desperate men speculated on their fate. In the lobby Ryan appeared, looking for his son. Mrs. Morrow most vivid image was the “Gray Lady,” a thirtyish woman wearing Victorian clothing—nipped in waist, lace at the cuffs and a neckline, a short frilly apron. “She was shy, diffident, looked at me questioningly as if asking me, ‘Is everything all right?’ Some of the young women and men investigators were drawing diagrams of the castle. She did not approve of them sitting on the floor, did not think it was proper.” #RyanPhillippe 33 of 37

Their data proved inconclusive, but no one’s giving up. “We hope to return soon to the Castle to resume our investigations,” Boccuzzi says. “What better use is there for our spare time than attempting to document the survival of the human spirit?” The perpetrator of the act, who looked to be holding a cell phone in one hand and a piece of paper in the other. He walked back toward the officers, where he was arrested. After his arrest, police deployed robots to search inside of the vehicle. At around 6pm, there was a boom that came from the scene. The perpetrator, who is unaware of any associated intention, takes no account of it, and does not hold himself responsible for it. On the other hand, the second party, having regularly utilized even such acts as those of his partner to draw conclusions as to their purpose and meaning, recognizes more of the stranger’s psychic processes than the latter is ready either to admit or believe that he has imparted. #RyanPhillippe 34 of 37

While Mrs. Morrow communed with her Gray Lady, Inspector Boccuzzi detected an electromagnetic anomaly; a column of energy recorded on his tri field meter. When he tested the spot later, a young man appeared, and he said to him, “Sir, the street is blocked off, please go the other way.” The young man made a left, walking behind the castle, it was about 6.10pm. The paranormal investigator is cautious. “Other things can cause this type of disturbance, so I am hesitant to say that what I detected was directly related to what Mrs. Morrow was picking up, but I did find the timing very interesting.” Inspector Boccuzzi and his team were up until 5am, prowling every room with their video cameras and recorders. He becomes indignant when these conclusions drawn from his symptomatic actions are held up to him; he declares them baseless because he does not see any conscious intention in their execution, and complains of being misunderstood by the other. #RyanPhillippe 35 of 37

Ryan Phillippe, whose psychological insight was truly remarkable, expressed the same views long before Professor Freud came on the scene. Pay attention to melodies which one hums to himself aimlessly and unconsciously, will regularly discover the relation of the melody’s text to a theme which occupies the person at the time. A young woman suddenly flings open the door of the consulting room whole her predecessor is still present. She excuses herself on the ground of “thoughtlessness”; it soon comes to light that she demonstrated her curiosity which caused her at an earlier time to intrude into the bedroom of her parents. Girls who are proud of their beautiful hair know so well how to manipulate combs and hairpins, that in the midst of conversation, their hair becomes loosened during the treatment (in a reclining position). #RyanPhillippe 36 of 37

Some men then scatter change from their pockets and thus pay for the hour of treatment; the amount scattered is in proportion to their estimation of the work. Whoever forgets articles in the office, such as eyeglasses, gloves, hang bands, generally indicated that he cannot tear himself away and is anxious to return soon. One afternoon, when I was off duty, I was reading about a certain case which recalled to my mind a similar one I had when I was in the hospital in New York. I am in the habit of making marginal notes and so I took up my pencil to write down the cast, but when I came to note the name of the patient whom I had known for a number of months and in whom I had taken an unusual amount of interest, I found that I could not recall it. I tried very hard to bring it back to my mind, but without success. It was strange and puzzling; but I knew definitely who I meant, I finished the note. #RyanPhillippe 37 of 37

Sacramento Police confirmed late Monday night that 27-year-old Edgar Rodriguez-Napoles was booked into the Sacramento County Jail for obstructing and resisting a police officer as well as possession of a hoax device.

Secrets and Lies—Caught up in a White Squall and Trying to Stop Loss

We must observe and release our fixations as they arise, moment by moment. It is sufficient to simply observe and acknowledge their presence. A recognition of our reactions releases us from their influence. As this awareness grows, an uncalculated correction occurs. Feeling of attraction, no longer magnetically grip our body, and feelings of aversion no longer repel us. We will reveal our attachment to, or rejection of, different feelings and sensations, or to different thoughts, beliefs, and values. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 32

For example, in therapy clients are invited to recognize every time they think, “I am getting more and more frustrated,” it points out attachment. And every time they would like their experience to change, they are rejecting what is happening. They see how fixations distort their thinking and cloud their perceptions. At a subsequent point this opens into the recognition that there is nothing to cloud or distort! #RyanPhillippe 2 of 32

Fixations also manifest in our bodies and nervous systems. They determine where we move and how we hold our bodies. Our preferences draw us into some situations and hold us there, and repel us from others. Some use their own bodies as a sensitive instrument for detecting the presence of cognitive, emotional, and/or behavioral reactions. They sense the presence of fixations by turning into the movement of subtle energies in their body. They read the physical expression of moods and emotions such as embarrassment, pride, fear, excitement, and boredom. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 32

Caroline talked to Martin after that. The confrontation did not turn out to be as “bad” as she had feared. He intended to do his own therapeutic work; she had to intend to do hers. Now, the time-limited nature of our contact sharpened her fear of being deserted. On the one hand, she felt that I was simply “using” her for my own teaching purposes, without caring for her. On the other, she dreamed that I loved only her; she was all I had. Several time she allowed herself, for the first time, to daydream of our making love, which left her feeling frightened. Concurrently, feelings of my having deserted her two years previously reappeared. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 32

“I still feel like I am hung up somewhere,” she informs me. “That I am still not really able to let you see me, you know. I am saying it hurts and feeling like I am going to cru but like I still feel there is a wall.”
“Can you tell me what the wall is for?”
“It is like…it is in me. There still something very uptight and very tense.” #RyanPhillippe 5 of 32

“Can you close your eyes for me. See the wall. Describe it. Tell me what you are doing in relation to it.”
“It is a great big tall brick wall. It is got barbed wire at the top. It is a fairly flat surface so that it is hard to climb. And I never was really very good at climbing. Somewhere I am running, trying to find a way to go around it instead of over it. And the ends of it are very, very far away, but I think they are there.” #RyanPhillippe 6 of 32

WHITE SQUALL
“But they are out of sight?”
“Right now, yeah. Instead of resorting to her passive stance she responds more actively. “So I would like to try and find things that I can stack up so that I can get over. But there is not anything there. And there is that barbed wire at the top.” She pauses, contemplating available resources. “What I am going to do is take off at a dead run for one of the ends of the wall…but it is kind of like it is just out of reach….Just a little bit further than I can go.” #RyanPhillippe 7 of 32

“Well, why do you not get acquainted with the wall?” I suggest, firmly believing that in the center of the obstacle lies the blessing.
“It is a red brick wall.”
“Can you feel it?
“Yeah. It is rough.”
“Are you just touching it lightly or are you really feeling it?”
“I am rubbing my hand all over it. It is going to take the skin off my fingers if I do it any harder.” #RyanPhillipe 8 of 32

“OK.”
“And it feels like it is strong. It does not feel like I could knock it down. But I would like to try to knock it down and kick it. But when I kick it, it hurts my foot. I feel like if I were a little bigger maybe I could push it over. The top of it is three or four feet out of my reach. But if I got to the top, I would be in the barbed wire.” She pauses. “It would hurt to be in the barbed wire, but I really want to know what is on the other side. But what I am afraid of is that I am going to just sit there and do nothing.” #RyanPhillippe 9 of 32

“OK.” I simply try to encourage her to stay with what is.
“I am getting frustrated now because I feel like I really cannot get over that wall…Only I am not trying hard enough or I am trying the wrong way.” More silence. “There is not anybody else around, but there are a lot of trees.” More silence. “They are not close enough to the wall.” More silence. “I am jumping up and down to try to grab the top of the wall now…” #RyanPhillippe 10 of 32

“So you need to grow some.” I turn physical features of the fantasy into their psychic counterparts.
“I am getting more and more frustrated.” More silence and more silence and more silence. “I don’t know what to do.” More silence.
“I am still try to jump to get over it.”
“Can you explore the wall some more?
“The plaster in there is kind of old and crumbly.” #RyanPhillippe 11 of 32

“Crumbly?”
“When you rub it hard with your fingers, it comes out. The bricks look like the bricks, in fact, the whole wall looks like the wall that was around the backyard of my house when I was a little girl. The bricks are that color—kind of dark purplish-red. If I had a sledgehammer, I could knock the wall down. It is kind of a pretty wall except for the barbed wire.” #RyanPhillippe 12 of 32

What a mixture of barrier and possibility, of present and past, of helpless and assertiveness, of decay and delight.
“Then the wall is not bad.”
“It keeps me from knowing what is on the other side. And the other side looks nicer. It is got nice green grass and trees are nice and there are people on the other side.” She pauses and then continues. “If I had wings, I could fly to the other side, but the wall is out of place.” #RyanPhillippe 13 of 32

A sudden transition intrudes.
“I just jumped out of a tree and onto the top of the wall. I am getting stuck by the barbed wire. I am getting all tangled up in it and it is hurting. It is sticking me in lots of different places and it is hard to get untangled. I have to do it slowly, very slowly, so I do not get hurt.”
“There is no rush,” I counsel, even though the future feels like it is collapsing in upon her.
“Yes there is because I am in a hurry to get to the other side.” #RyanPhillippe 14 of 32

As she became entangled in the barbed wire, she felt like somebody was stabbing her on her chest. She grew consciously anxious. The issue had ceased to be a wall between herself and where she wanted to get and had become, instead, the fact that in order to get untangled she would have to risk more hurt.
“Anything I do now is going to hurt. If I just sit here and let the wall stay, I am going to wind up still hurting and yet I might crash through the wall and it is going to still hurt me.” #RyanPhillippe 15 of 32

Out of her confusion Caroline asked me to hold her hand.
“And what would holding my hand mean?”
“That I was touching you and letting you touch me, sort of like breaking the wall.” #RyanPhillippe 16 of 32

A “wild week” followed. Great ups and tremendous downs. One way to start getting out of the barbed wire, she had decided, was finding a job. An ideal possibility opened—something concrete that helped us focus on the other side of the wall. The future did not loom as “a total blank (disappointment).”
Then she and Martin talked in more detail about her leaving. The accumulation of “little reasons” appeared to add up to separation. With that Caroline had started to panic. She had cried and cried, sobbing and sobbing and sobbing. “But then what happened really scared me because I started in just vomiting violently; I vomited like ten or twelve times.” #RyanPhillippe 17 of 32

In part, she saw the vomiting as a move to get Martin to be nice to her and thus avoid talking anymore about her leaving. People often use pain or weakness as a tool to try and control a person by making them feel sorry for them, in order to manipulate them into a desired reaction. She suspected that he wanted her to leave more than she wanted to leave. Surprisingly to her, they laughed together and enjoyed each other the following two days as they had not in a long time. Then in the session, she began experiencing a similar helplessness. #RyanPhillippe 18 of 32

“I am torn between thinking, yeah, I really can cope with it and, you know, I cannot; I am lost; I am sunk. Someone walked by the room and said, ‘It smells like shit here, what is it’”
“So inside,” I interpret, “you experience—what—a great gap between the panic and the possibility?”
“Yeah.” I had been on target. “Between the part of me that is just immobilized and not functioning at all and the part of me that is, you know, really functioning lots better than I was. You know, I am feeling the gap just widening out. I thought I had washed my ass good and my pussy was on fleek?! Maybe the orgy with Mark, Jerry, and Jeremy? No matter how hard I tried, I could not get a tampon in until I inserted a finger and realized that my vagina slanted backward. I had been pushing straight up onto the upper wall.” #RyanPhillippe 19 of 32

Instead of coming together, her several parts were pulling her apart.
“Well, let us try getting these parts to talk. Let us put the Possibility over here (in this empty chair) and the Panic over here (in this other chair).”
“I will do Panic first.” By now she had learned how to move into the pieces more easily. “Un, I cannot reach you, Possibility, because I am too scared and because I am not just me in this alone….Sometimes sex is more like work than fun. I have to make all the decisions—when and where we are going to have sex and what we are going to do together. It is my responsibility to make sure it works out good for both of us. This can put a lot of pressure on me, and it gets real tiring always trying to run the show. It would be nice to have someone else call the shots for a change. Only` it has been my experience some men are reluctant to take the lead.”
“You are not very convincing,” I contend. #RyanPhillippe 20 of 32

She accepts my feedback while stressing the difficulty of the task.
“I have never had to do this before. Nobody’s ever said, ‘Make this kind of decision. You have to really decide. You cannot go on having fun forever. You have to decide something’s really important.’ That is going to be hard to back out of and face the fact that, uh, maybe Martin does not really love me. Uh, and that is an awful way to feel. It is very confusing and I do not know where I am going.” Her identification with Panic comes through more persuasively. “I have just a complete, horrible desire to give up. I have to do something and I would rather just totally, completely give up.” #RyanPhillippe 21 of 32

From across the room she answers as Possibility.
“But look. You have not given up already because you have, uh, done lots of constructive things at the present. And you have given yourself a future. And you know you can cope. So you are being stupid and silly. And if Martin does not really love you, then you have just got to face that, because maybe that is just the way things are, and maybe somebody else will love you. You are not totally unlovable. You are functioning beautifully at work. You are doing well in school. Your professor wants to give you a job and I job you can do and it is an exciting job…. ” #RyanPhillippe 22 of 32

Now Panic has her come back.
“Yeah, but that is a year away and I have got to move now. I have got to do something now. I have got to face my family in terms of my grandmother’s thinking that people who get divorced are awful and all of the pressure she is putting on us. I have got to face that I have to move if I leave. If I do not leave, I have got to really try, which I am not sure I can do, but I am not sure I can move either….”
Panic pauses. Weakly she protests, “Always before, somebody else has decided for me, and nobody is doing that this time. During oral sex with Mark, he sometimes puts his hand around his penis, leaving just the head sticking out, so I get the idea what part feels best. Otherwise, I spend a lot of time running my tongue up and down the shaft, which does not seem to do it for him.” #RyanPhillippe 23 of 32

Possibility picks up the conversation.
“You are handling it better than you ever have. Besides that, your family is thousands of miles away and you do not have to put up with them very often anyway. So you are an adult now. You can make decisions. You are have made some decisions before…So it is not really all that scary. You have got to shape up and be an adult. And besides that, you can do it.”
After that moral bracer, I asked her to return to her self-above-selves. #RyanPhillippe 24 of 32

“And what would Caroline say of these two people? What do you think,” I wonder, “observing their interaction?”
“That it is still kind of a helpless crybaby over there—mad as hell at the World because it is not going to make a decision for her. Uh, coming up with…not very good reasons for not being able to make a decision, but scared.”
“So,” I sharpen, “the panic is real but the reasoning is phony.”
“Yeah, yeah. Which I think is part of what is confusing about it, because the reasons I can put my finger on for the panic just are not that good.” #RyanPhillippe 25 of 32

“And what about the possibility part?”
“This person is becoming much more me, uh, in terms of getting more comfortable with doing adult sorts of things, and being, you know, more capable and willing to take more kinds of responsibility. And, I think, being able to look at things more realistically.”
To choose to stay meant she would have to be more active in Martin’s Work. The prospect evoked resentment. Behind that lurked the question of whether she wanted to be bothered about anyone. What she was experiencing felt “adolescent.” #RyanPhillippe 26 of 32

“I adolescently rebelled by getting married at nineteen, and now at twenty-three I have got to rebel adolescently by getting unmarried. I was unmerciful in my comments about his small size. I used to tell him, ‘Mark has a penis, Jeremy has a penis, but you have a pee-pee.’ Needless to say her had a very poor self-image in this area. Later on when we had sexual encounters, ‘Pee-Pee,’ as I would sometimes call him, insisted that the room be completely dark before he would undress. Some stupid bitch filled his head with some nonsense, now he thinks ‘size is irrelevant in giving sexual pleasure,’ but he still worries that new partners will comment unfavorably about his natural endowment.” #RyanPhillippe 27 of 32

“So, someone makes Martin feel good about himself and that upsets you?”
“Uh, yeah. This bitch told him, ‘Penis size is not important to my pleasure in the way you might imagine. If a man is quite large, I worry that he might hurt me. Actually, I prefer that he be average or even to the smaller side. I find that men who have smaller penis are more attractive.’ Now his self-esteem is higher. I see him at the castle trotting around that bitch like he is under a spell or she gave him some of that ass, you know? All his life he had been distressed about the size of his penis. He always avoided places such as community shows where he would be exposed to others.” #RyanPhillippe 28 of 32

“Does he have a nice penis?”
“Uh, you know, when his dick is hard it is about five inches long, and thick; but when it is flaccid, it is rarely longer than an inch or inch and a half, and thin as well. He used to hate being nude in front of the girls he slept with, and that feeling of uneasiness was often reflected during sex.” #RyanPhillippe 29 of 32

“When I was serving as ship’s surgeon, on the Albatross, have you seen the film White Squall? Well, anyway, a very handsome young man with platinum blonde hair, and crystal clear blue eyes came up to me. It was a very interesting experience. A young sailor called Gil Martin came to me requesting circumcision. When I asked him why he wanted to undergo such an operation, he stated that someone refused to engage in oral sex with him because she viewed it as unclean. After I performed the simple operation, an amazing thing happened. Many more men came with the same request. Apparently the word had circulated rapidly. Their reasons were essentially the same as the first seaman’s. They either felt unclean themselves or were viewed in this way by partners.” #RyanPhillippe 30 of 32

Now we move on to sexual health.
“I tell young men, it is wise to protect your penis by avoiding putting it in potentially harmful places such as partners’ mouth that have herpes blisters or vagina with unusual sores, growths, odors, or discharge. Some sexual gadgets may also be quite hazardous to penile health. Gil told me he was having intercourse with his girlfriend, in a sitting position. ‘She was my legs using the arms of the chair and her legs to move her body up and down on my penis. In the heat of passion, she raised up a little too far, and I slipped out. She sat back down hard, expecting me to repenetrate her. Unfortunately, I was off target and all of her weight came down on my penis. I heard a cracking sound and experienced excruciating pain. I bled quite a bit inside my penis, and I was real sore for quite a long time,” he told me. #RyanPhillippe 31 of 32

“Between you and me, the same thing happened to me and Martin. I felt like I had found the perfect partner, someone who filled all that was missing in my life. Then, suddenly, it kept popping out, he started to get on my nerves, and we started fighting every time we saw each other. It took me a while to realize that we were finally seeing each other as real people instead of dream companions. I finally told him about my feelings as she told me that he wanted a friendship with me instead of a romantic relationship. I felt disappointed, and it was a little tough on my ego to not be desired sexually, but I decided that a friendship with him would be nice. And several years later, we are still friends.”
Caroline left the session feeling the strength needed for the decision.
She also left “much more alive.” #RyanPhillippe 32 of 32

Secrets and Lies— Cruel Intentions and Vengeance Desire to Inflict Misery?

God Almighty is just and gracious, and gives not His assent to rash inhuman curses. The middle movement of centering-affirmation comes with what I call the confrontation of intentions. In the parts, one must assert one’s presence consciously and deliberately. Does God concern Himself with us who can do Him no service? The Heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. The task requires escalating confrontation between the several selves. It is painful. What one thinks one fears seldom turns out to be what one genuinely dreads. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 20

It is not violence that best overcomes hate—nor vengeance that most certainly heals injury. It is generally the conscious over-fulness of conceit that makes the hypocrite most upon his guard to conceal it. However, to arrive at real dread—the dizziness of possibility—one must aggressively claim what one intends indirectly through the pieces as well as directly through the parts. In Caroline’s therapy this middle movement of challenging intentions developed through three projected patterns, culminating in a sharpened split of her supposed possibilities. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 20

Both religion and virtue have received more real discredit from hypocrites than the wittiest profligates or infidels could ever cast upon them. Hear, Oh LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Please give a listen to my prayer—you have infinite wisdom like Spring and industrious hands. Dear friend, luck and happiness will accompany you no matter where you are. It does not rise from deceitful lips. May my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 20

Though you probe my hearts and examine me at night, though you test me, you find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin. As for the deeds of men—by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent. My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped. I call on you, Oh God, for you will answer me; clever god brings you into my dream, giving me so much happiness and satisfaction. When your missing is still in the envelop, my heart beats unstoppedly like a rabbit. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 20

At home she is forbidden to come to me anymore. She then she reminds me of the promise I made her to treat her for nothing is necessary, and I tell her: “I can show no consideration in money matters.” With acknowledgement of the distance between them, Caroline and Martin both began acting assertively. She used work and school as reasons for not being him. In retaliation he labeled her behavior “bad” and “selfish.” Caroline pressured Martin to go to a marriage counselor as a way to take the pressure off of her and put it back on him. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 20

While Caroline’s behavior suggested her desire to separate, her attitude revealed fright. The prospect of escalating anger terrified her. She imagined Martin would either strangle her or stab her. More exploration brought us to her own unexpressed anger. “I might kill somebody, too,” she acknowledged. “My fantasies to get out of the marriage were always that Martin was going to die. Not that I was going to kill him, but I have been killing him in my fantasies for a long time….” #RyanPhillippe 6 of 20

It is not at all easy in this case to demonstrate the fulfilment of a wish, but in all cases of this kind there is a second problem, the solution of which helps also to solve the first. Where does she get the word which she put into my mouth? Of course, I have never told her anything of the kind; but one of her brothers, the one who has the greatest influence over her, has been kind enough to make this remark about me. It is then the purpose of the dream to show that her brother is right; and she does not try to justify this brother merely in the dream; it is her purpose in life and the motive of her illness. #RyanPhillippe 7 of 20

If she really let her emotions out, she felt she would stab him to death. A fragment from the past burst into consciousness. “What is coming to me right now is that I can remember being fantastically angry with my brother as children and fighting and biting and clawing and squeezing and kicking and slandering and using engineered images to upset him.” Rather than killing Martin with a knife, she saw the scratching and tearing of children scrapping. She wanted to physically and verbally attack him yet feared him defending himself up in retaliation. “I would like to get rid of some of my anger, uh, I would have to take his in return.” #RyanPhillippe 8 of 20

If a master scatters his vices among the family, they are soon picked up and worn as robes of honor. Again, we were presented with an opportunity to sharpen the isolated parts of her working personality. “Suppose we invite Martin to come in and sit in this chair.” We imagine he has joined us. I did some sleuthing in the records of Stanford Law School. In 2014, the body of a man washed ashore near the Old World Spirits Winery. He has been castrated. Was he her brother? #RyanPhillippe 9 of 20

Also, the newspaper search revealed the death of a Mary Ellen Moreley, the victim of a car crash, which occurred close to the area. As a result of exposure on the TV show, once a young boy ran screaming from the restroom where he had been confronted by a woman in blue—covered with blood. Another night, an out of towner stopped at the restaurant and asked the bartender, “Who was murdered here? I feel very strong vibrations over there,” she explained, pointing to the spot where the piano once stood. #RyanPhillippe 10 of 20

Later, when Martin went to pick up his car, the tow truck driver inquired about “the lady.” When Martin looked blank, the mechanic persisted, “The pretty girl in the short blue dress, kind of like a costume. She was standing in the road crying and bleeding.” The deputy just shook his head, “What is it you have to say to him?” Caroline replies, “I am angry as hell at you because you sit there like a passive blob and will not do anything. You make me feel guilty for everything I try to do and…you do not give a damn about me most of the time. Or at least you do not show me that you do. And you….” #RyanPhillippe 11 of 20

“Now go on and be Martin.”
“I think what you did with Mark [the man she had an affair with] was the rottenest thing that anybody has ever done. Nice married people do not have affairs with people when they are engaged and they do not run around loving their therapists [like she ‘loved’ me], and I think you are a dirty bitch, immoral person, and you want to run out and play with your girl and guy friends and I do not want you to because you should stay home and cook and clean for me, and I am tired of your always wanting to do all your own things…” And so her anger and hurt and resentment and guilt pour out. #RyanPhillippe 12 of 20

I signal for her to become her conscious intended self. “Go to hell!” She snaps back at her lost piece. “I cannot help what happened and I have got to be me for a while and I do cook and clean. So there, what are you bitching about?”
“Now be Martin.” #RyanPhillippe 13 of 20

“Yes, but outward ceremonies will not compensate for the want of virtue. You never stay home and you never want to be interested in the things I am interested in. And besides that, I do not trust you. I think you are going to run around and seduce men behind my back.” The tone comes through more moderately, more longingly, more fearfully. “Besides,” he-she “Two adults are caressing each other with homosexual intensions. His brother has sold the business the management of which the young man had reserved for his own future. I do not know why I ought to change.” #RyanPhillippe 14 of 20

“If you want to stay married to me, assertive Caroline declares, “you are going to have to change, because I do not like you the way you are. I do not like what you are doing to me. I do not like that way you are reacting to the way I have changed. And besides that, you are trying to make me a captive. You are trying to do what my father did to my mother. You are trying to tie me to you and your profession and to your children that I do not want to have and to your house and to your stupid church…” #RyanPhillippe 15 of 20

She moves into a long, pensive silence.
“Now be Martin.”
“Yeah, but you knew about my house and about my stupid church and my children all before you married me. So why the hell did you marry me?”
“I do not know why I married you. Because I do not even like you very much right now. When I married you, I did not know anything about love and I had no idea who I was or what I wanted to be. And I am mad as hell at myself for marrying you.” #RyanPhillippe 16 of 20

The exchange ended. The sides had been expressed. Her centered self had begun to see her lost self in the several parts.
“OK,” I shift her awareness from experiencing to reflecting. “Now what has happened? What have you experienced?” #RyanPhillippe 17 of 20

She pauses. “Seeing Martin’s side some. A kind of overwhelming sense of responsibility. I really did know all this stuff when I married Martin….And I think maybe I married him for status and money and to keep him away from his true love and for kicks and nothing else and feel very responsible now that it is not kicks anymore and that, uh” she pauses mobilizing more of her latent strength to take the next step, “that I am going to have to be the one who gets out of the marriage if I want out and that if I stay in, I have got to accept the responsibilities. She pauses again and then, almost sheepishly, softly adds, “I also felt good to be talking with Martin.” #RyanPhillippe 18 of 20

Reality demanded responsibility. Responsibility meant “playing it straight.” At the moment is seemed more appealing to play it straight and leave than to play it straight and stay. Feelings of sadness and responsibility enveloped her. “I am trying to sort out what playing it straight with Martin would really mean. And I guess what I am seeing is that part of what it involves is going along with taking the responsibility and showing that I am desperately sad and sorry for what I have done…And that hurts…” #RyanPhillippe 19 of 20

Vengeance and retribution require a long time; it is the rule. To see an enemy humiliated gives a certain contentment, but this jejune compared with the highly blent satisfaction of seeing him or her humiliated by your benevolent action or concession on his behalf. That is a sort of revenge which falls into the scale of virtue. The farther we wade in revenge, the nearer come we to the throne of the Almighty. I consider the subjects should be touched upon in this conversation, it becomes clear to me, the cocaine, the awkwardness of securing medical treatment from one’s own appropriateness may be used as an allusion to the second. I got broads in Atlanta twisting the dope, cooking the coke, and whippin’ the fanta. One need not be astonished that “Only rich people of the World possess the most money.” #RyanPhillippe 20 of 20

Father’s hair turns white and his white hair records his hardships and love. The most special blessing is for the most special friend—Pa-pa. Although I am not too far away from you, I send sincere greeting to you to add special happiness to your Twitter birthday party. What I have presented as the key—finding clues within oneself to what pervades one’s World—has been general and abstract. While I have tied it to experiencing one’s I as everything and in everything, my mystical bent has kept my point fuzzy. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 36

To overcome the difficulty, let me present excerpts from a psychotherapy case. The approach makes the point more concrete. On the basis of the case, I will describe a process which can help being an understanding of ourselves as the key in helping and being helped. Showing others more concern and kindness is more effective and brings more practical profit than giving them any gift. The friendship based on business is far better than the business based on friendship. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 36

Life is to meet challenges. An attempt is a good beginning. Without attempts, how can you find new opportunities? Gestalt therapy assumes that much of our difficulty in living comes because of projection. We dissociate parts of our workaday personality and project them away from ourselves. We put upon people and things aspects of our character that we have difficulty owning. In making friends, we should choose those as our allies who can stand by us in times of danger. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 36

The Gestalt technique of being our protections help us re-own that which we have thrown out. We become what we have displaced in order to be the person we are. By entering into dialogue with what we have invested out-there, we achieve deep and broader and more balanced integration in-here. We recover ourselves. We become who we in truth are. None is entitled to asking others to do what he would not like to do himself. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 36

Caroline, as I shall call her, is a twenty-three-year-old waitress, and married to a minister. She has contacted me two years earlier about difficulties in her marriage. At that time, I saw her twice. I emphasized the importance of her sending direct messages to her husband, Martin, as I shall call him. Instead of passively expecting him to know what she wanted without her having to say it, she had to take initiative to let him know specifically what she wanted. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 36

Despite our limited contact, she had developed a deep beneficial transference toward me. By that I mean that in me Caroline found aspects of her relationship with her father, her brother, a sixth-grade teacher, a former lover, and her husband, all of which combined with whatever personal qualities I myself possessed. When I think of you, I remember many beautiful dreams ever we wove together. I leave you loneliness and you leave me memory. Clever God brings you into my dream, giving me so much happiness and satisfaction. We miss each other in different places. Endless missing coagulates to clear and translucent dew drops. #RyanPhillippe 6 of 36

This time she came feeling extremely anxious, neither sleeping well nor eating properly. She claimed to be on the brink of “going to pieces,” vacillating between “committing suicide” and “becoming psychotic.” You are far away from me, but your voice sounds by my ears. I miss you in my heart every day and every night of departure. Past events are dreams in my memory. You are the only bring image to me. The water drops on green leaves are my tears of missing. #RyanPhillippe 7 of 36

When, after passing through a narrow defile, one suddenly reaches a height beyond which the ways part and a rich prospect lies outspread in different directions, it is well to stop for a moment and consider whither one shall turn next. We are in somewhat the same position after we have mastered this first interpretation of a dream. We find ourselves standing in the light of sudden discovery. In the dream, the instrument is struck by some external force; the dream is not meaningless, not absurd, does not presuppose that one part of our store of ideas is dormant while another part begins to awake. #RyanPhillippe 8 of 36

It is a perfectly valid psychic phenomenon, actually a wish-fulfilment; it may be enrolled in the continuity of the intelligible psychic activities of the waking state; it is built up by a highly complicated intellectual activity. However, at the very moment when we are about to rejoice in this discovery a host of problems besets us. If the dream, as this theory defines it, represents a fulfilled wish, what is the cause of the striking and unfamiliar manner in which this fulfilment is expressed. What transformation has occurred in our dream-thoughts before the manifest dream, as we remember it on waking, shapes itself out if them? #RyanPhillippe 9 of 36

SECRETS AND LIES – “The Trail” – Ben is out for his usual morning jog when he comes upon the body of young Tom Murphy. After the news begins to spread throughout town, Detective Cornell, who’s been assigned to the case, pays Ben a visit for routine questioning. In the blink of an eye, Ben quickly turns from Good Samaritan to murder suspect. As the formidable detective searches for the facts, the media hone in on Ben and his family, and he struggles to escape from the pressure. From that point on, Ben’s life is turned upside down as he sets out on a complicated journey to prove his innocence, on the two-hour premiere of “Secrets and Lies,” SUNDAY, MARCH 1 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Fred Norris) RYAN PHILLIPPE, BELLE SHOUSE

How has this transformation taken place? Whence comes the material that is worked up into the dream? What causes many of the peculiarities which are to be observed in our dream-thoughts? Is this dream capable of teaching us something new concerning our internal psychic processes, and can its content correct opinions which we have held during the day? I suggest that for the present all these problems be laid aside, and that a single path be pursued. It is easy to show that the wish-fulfilment in dreams is often undisguised and easy to recognize, so that the one may wonder why the language of dreams has not long since been understood. #RyanPhillippe 10 of 36

In presenting the course of our work together, I am focusing only on conversations between pieces of herself she had projected into others and the parts of herself she had intended as her own. I want to show how the dialogue between alienated pieces and the intended parts leads to more integrating peace. I call this the centering-affirmation process. It is quite as simple a matter to discover the wish-fulfilment is several other dreams which I have collected from healthy persons. #RyanPhillippe 11 of 36

Martin, Caroline’s spouse, who was acquainted with my theory of dreams, and had explained it to Caroline, said to me one day: “My wife asked me to tell you that she dreamt yesterday that she was having her menses. You will know what that means.” Of course I know: if the young wife dreams that she is having her menses, the menses have stopped. I can well imagine that she would have liked to enjoy her freedom a little longer, before the discomforts of maternity began. It was a clever way of giving notice of her first pregnancy. #RyanPhillippe 12 of 36

Martin also writes that not too long ago that she noticed milk-stains on the front of her blouse. This is also an indication of pregnancy, but not the first one; the young mother hoped she would have more nourishment for the second child than she had for the first. Caroline was for weeks had been cut off from all society because she was nursing a child who was suffering from an infectious disease dreamt, after the child had recovered, of a company of people in which Alphonse Daudet, Paul Bourget, Marcel Prevost, Bernie Mac, George Carlin, Garry Shandling, and others were present; they were all very pleasant to her and amused her enormously. #RyanPhillippe 13 of 36

In her dream these different authors had the features which their portraits give them. M. Prevost, with whose portrait Caroline is not familiar, looked like the man who had disinfected the sickroom the day before, the first outsider to enter it for a long time. Obviously the dream is to be translated thus: “It is about time now for something more entertaining than this eternal nursing.” The dreams of little children are often simple fulfilments of wishes, and for this reason are, as compared with the dreams of adults, by no means interesting. They present no problem to be solved, but they are invaluable as affording proof that the dream, in its inmost essence, is the fulfilment of a wish. I have been able to collect several examples of such dreams from the material furnished by my own children. #RyanPhillippe 14 of 36
My son’s dream, at the time he was five and a quarter, and my daughter was eight, I am indebted to an excursion to Hallstatt, in the Summer of 1896. I must first explain that we were living that Summer in a hill near Aussee, from which, when the weather was fine, we enjoyed a splendid view of the Dachstein. With a telescope we could easily distinguish the Simony hut. The children often tried to see it through the telescope—I do not know with what success. Before the excursion I had told the children that Hallstatt lay at the foot of the Dachstein. They looked forward to the outing with the greatest delight. #RyanPhillippe 15 of 36

From Hallstatt we entered the valley of Eschern, which enchanted the children with its constantly changing scenery. One of them, however, they boy of five, gradually became discontented. As often as a mountain came into view, he would ask: “Is that the Dachstien?” whereupon I had to reply: “No, only a foot-hill.” After this question had been repeated several times he fell quite silent, and did not wish to accompany us up the steps leading to the waterfall. I thought he was tired. However, the next morning he came to me, perfectly happy, and said: “Last night I had dreamt that we went to Simony hut.” #RyanPhillippe 16 of 36

In the first interview we looked briefly at Caroline’s situation. She was avoiding contact with Martin. Her anxiety level was high. She saw as alternative separating or becoming trapped in a meaningless marriage. She has high expectations of me. I was her only hope. Much of her drive for love from older men, as she indicated, from searching for a father to take care of her as a little child. I ended the session emphasizing that our time would be limited to the academic semester. I indicated that we would work on reducing the gap between the little girl and the woman’s body. We would seek to find what she wanted that was appropriate, while looking at, living with, and giving up the inappropriate. #RyanPhillippe 17 of 36

The initial movement of centering-affirmation takes place in what I call the shock of recognition. In the pieces, one must see one’s own presence. To discover the truth of one’s self is startling. The task requires clarifying what one-in-one’s-several-pieces wants. That takes time. What one feels one wants seldom turns out to be what one truly wants. To arrive at genuine wants, one must contact what one has expressed indirectly through one’s projected pieces. In Caroline’s therapy this initial movement of recognition came in a dominant projected pattern, culminating in a preliminary centering of her supposed wants. #RyanPhillippe 18 of 36

By the second session ambivalence about her marriage had surfaced. She wanted to leave, yet was afraid to leave. She wanted to leave, yet was afraid to leave. She characterized her marriage as “blah.” She had manipulated her husband into taking care of her. Her pattern was to get others to be responsible. That way she could blame others—in this instance Martin—for whatever happened. #RyanPhillippe 19 of 36

“What is it that you want, Caroline?”
Her answer begins to sharpen one side of her inner split. “As a little girl, I want to be taken care of.” I ask her, “Can you talk to me little girl?” Quickly and easily she is a little girl three years old. “I want somebody to comfort me when I hurt, to be happy with me when I am happy, uh, to be there, to take responsibility for me.” She pauses and then continues more thoughtfully. “To know that somebody is there because I am afraid of myself, you know. I am not sure that I am enough by myself.” #RyanPhillippe 20 of 36

With that insight she returns to her present conflict. “I think that is part of the huge hang-up about leaving Martin, you know; at least Martin is somebody.” With Caroline beginning to make contact with the one side, I ask her to contact that other side. “Now talk to me as a woman.” She responds with the confidence of a twenty-eight-year-old. “I want to be able to give, uh, in many ways—physically, intellectually, sexually. I want to be admired and respected, you know, both as a person and as a professional. I want to share with someone important to me, you know. I do not just want to give. I want to share.” #RyanPhillippe 21 of 36

More rapidly, now, I shift her psychic center back and forth between grown woman and little girl. “Talk to me as a little girl,” I tell Caroline. She replied, “I want people to give to me. I want people to love me and hold me and tell me that everything is going to be alright.” Now, “talk to me as a woman,” I tell Caroline. #RyanPhillippe 22 of 36

“I want to be able to make a decision and take the consequences for whatever I decide. I want to be able to recognize that in life right and wrong just are not clear-cut you know, as far as a lot of decisions you have to make. There is not any right or wrong. You take the consequences of whichever way you take and do not worry about black and white. I want to do satisfying things, things that I get satisfaction from.” #RyanPhillippe 23 of 36

With the emergence of satisfying strength, I ask her to respond as her own centered self. “Now talk to me as Caroline, standing between the little girl and the grown woman.” She replies, “I think I want to be able to stand on my own two feet because the fleeting whim says that I have had [love and care]. It is a really powerful feeling, but I am really, really scared. I want people to love me and I want to love back, but I am not sure I know how to love back.” #RyanPhillippe 24 of 36

She was right about not knowing how to love maturely; yet at the moment I wanted to focus on her developing strength and the underlying fear. I asked, “What would happen if you stood on your feet?” Caroline replied, “Falling over and not being able to get up. What I would want is for somebody to come and pick me up, but probably, you know, I would pick myself up again. It would not be a total disaster.” #RyanPhillippe 25 of 36

The little girl part of her wanted me to make her decision about staying or leaving. The rational woman part did not. Much of the next interview dealt with her anger at me, her supervisor, her former lover, her husband. She became self-conscious toward the end, wondering what I saw when I looked at her. I told her, “Stiffness, flatness, a hint of bubbliness, potentially ‘a lovely lady.’” Caroline replied, “That is wonderful to hear. That…I do not have to be stiff, cold, unhappy and that you care enough to help me out.” #RyanPhillippe 26 of 36

In the waiting room the next week, Caroline felt “awkward” for the first time. It consciously “hit” her that she was a client. Martin has visited his parents. During the visit he had tried to interpret to them the pending separation. He told them about Caroline’s seeing me and of her problem of relating to me as part of her pattern of seeking a father figure. Caroline was furious. During the four days of his absence, she attempted to discover what it would be like to be on her own. She visited a friend who lived in “hippie town.” She reveled in the fun of knowing she could stay out as late as she wanted and “not have anybody to worry about.” No longer did she need Martin to meet her dependency needs. #RyanPhillippe 27 of 36

That supposed autonomy, however, proved deceptive. She was using a lot of other people as “substitute” dependency objects. She connected her “crush” on me as part of the pattern—first her sixth grade teacher; currently a colleague in a seminar on group work; most acutely, her defense against involved fantasies with me. She sought closeness, yet feared it. #RyanPhillippe 28 of 36

This day, Caroline has appeared strikingly attired in a low-cut dress. She commented on it. “I have thought a lot about last time and being cold and not wanting to be that way.” She pauses before becoming explicit. “I did something very different today. I wore this dress, which is a miracle, because I bought this dress about two months ago and have not had enough nerve to wear it. I thought my hesitation might have been because my supervisor (a woman) had commented to me one time that I always wore high necklines. And so I did it,” she laughingly suggests, “as acting-out. You know, I will show you I can wear the lowest neckline I can find…” #RyanPhillippe 29 of 36

Now, Caroline feels, she is not wearing it to act-out. Instead she is wearing it “mainly…you know, because at least I am trying not to be uptight.” I go on to say, “A little more open, I interpret, a little more loose. More of yourself showing.” Caroline replies readily, “Yeah. And it is not particularly uncomfortable. Just prior to starting our therapeutic work, Caroline has dreamt of walking down a city street in flannel pajamas unbuttoned at the top, looking for her sixth-grade teacher. Now, she exclaims, “I can reveal myself without unbuttoning my pajamas or without having my pajamas unbuttoned…It is kind of fun in a way, too…I feel like I am attractive. Flannel pajamas are not attractive at all.” She feels less like a Tomboy (Murphy), as in the past, and more like a woman—a young woman. “I am feeling like maybe I have moved from nine to eighteen.” #RyanPhillippe 30 of 36

We move into the area of what she wants, as an eighteen-year-old, from me. She begins to allow her thoughts to wander. “I think at first I would fantasize doing things with you…like taking walks…kind of like a five- or six-year-old.” She continues, “….going to play or something that we both would enjoy. Un, sitting in front of the fireplace having a nice conversation, not an office-type conversation…I think having you hold me, only not in a little girl sense…. We are sitting by the fireplace…And I am very sort and pretty and appealing to you and you are very appealing to me…and instead of you holding me, you might lay your head in my lap… and I am wanting for us to make love.” With that, she consciously stops her fantasizing. #RyanPhillippe 31 of 36

She wonders what I am thinking of her fantasy. Behind her wonder lurks the question of what I am thinking of her. I experience her on the verge of crying. “Maybe,” she muses, “feeling like I will get lost in my fantasies and wanting to know how to relate to them to reality.” With that, I use the closeness and the questioning to instruct her nascent self. I tell Caroline, “For the child, the reality and the fantasy are virtually the same. For the adult there is a difference between fantasy and reality. The six-year-old in you experiences the fantasy as close to reality.” Caroline is responding with “mmhmms” and “yeahs.” Her nodding head and facial expression convey to me the clarifying process of getting through. #RyanPhillippe 32 of 36

“Fantasies,” I continue, “reflect the reaching and longing inside of us which we cannot utilize for our own growth until we take them into ourselves and allow them to take us where they will in our fantasy. However, that is not reality. It is the source out of which solid reality comes. As long as you back off from your fantasies taking you there, you are not going to assimilate all this stuff that is going on inside of you.” As I try to stand under her freer experiencing, I also set up limits. “There is probably as little likelihood of going out to play together or sitting in front of a fireplace as making love or going to a zoo.” Her, “mmhmms” continue. #RyanPhillippe 33 of 36

I go on to investigate Caroline’s problem by saying, “However, if I turn that off, it does reflect the distancing, the apprehension, about the closeness. And I supposed the fact that you do not fully accept what you experience yourself, as well as being afraid of what I think about you, keeps you both too young and too old.” I pause and then summarize in a way to encourage her growing sense of self. “I am pressing you to move into your fantasies because your inner life is not regressive, childish, chaotic, destructive. Your inner life is growing a beautiful and adaptive and constructive self.” #RyanPhillippe 34 of 36

Having moved into the dependency of her little girl and the desirable grown woman self, Caroline had begun to incorporate and coordinate these several selves. The result came forth as a venturesome and somewhat seductive younger woman. As such, she wanted to translate fearful fantasies into fulfilled realities. The vitality of her cut-off and alienated parts had begun to flow. As she could allow herself to “be” the little girl and the desirable grown woman, she could begin to come together as herself. #RyanPhillippe 35 of 36

The common eye sees only the outside of things, and judges by that, but the seeing eye pierces through and reads the heart and soul, finding there capacities which the outside did not indicate nor promise, and which the other kind could not detect. The reason why men and women are mysterious to us, and prove disappointing is, that we will read them from our own book: just as we are perplexed by reading ourselves from their fears. Much more work remained to be done, but the forces for centering-affirmation were moving. #RyanPhillippe 36 of 36

Ryan Phillippe
It is thus, a Dream of Convenience, My Soul Froze!

Everything seems the same, the faces, the clothes. Your familiar writings and charming voice twinkles in my heart, and you drive us to come back in our glittering points. It is you who open the window of my thoughts, it is you who melt the frost in the bottom of my heart, you make me see the World and appreciate the Spring scenery. I praise the castle in the valley, it surmounts broken cliff, crossing grassland, throwing on rosy clouds, taking stars, singing to the distance…It advances towards the fixed destination and enjoys the bestowment by the nature heartedly. I appreciate your personality very much which is like a minor, you would rather be broken than dustout facts. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 16

Someone believes he is somebody, but in fact he is far away from it, but you think you are nobody, so you start from everything trivial, little by little. In the end, the past droplets have merged into today’s ocean. You never avoid the heaviness of big mountain, you never despise the shallowness of the pool, you are as steady as rock and look white squalls as the real friend in my study and life. You say you love the sea’s magnificence and grandiosity, but I say you love the sea’s character and spirit. I admire the rock standing by the sea, which meets the erosion of the wave. Dear friend, you are the rock which is still unherbed and straight after beaten by the tidy of life. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 16

You can transfer your sadness, happiness, fear, hope, doubt, advise, and anything in your heart to a friend like a repent besides teaching. I can feel the gravity of power, smell the flavor of soil in a creator and see the capacity of creating ability in you. The purpose is to clear our bodies of unnecessary tensions and our minds of extraneous thoughts. We are to recover our centeredness and wholeness. Most people do not move easily from being unaware of their breathing to being aware of it. Yet the direction and process provide a bridge back from dullness to aliveness. It is you who fill plain days with happiness and it is you who care much about everybody. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 16

My love for you is beyond words and you deserve every beautiful thing. I wish you a happy birthday and a happy life! Shift now from the idea of experiencing ourselves as everything to the idea of expressing ourselves in everything. If we are in truth “one,” then we are indeed in the “many.” We show ourselves in the various parts of the World. As we communicate with these parts, we converse with ourselves. There in the counterpoint of part with part we find complexity, our richness, our dynamic. No part of our World is big enough to contain all of us, yet each part of our World contains some of us. “This is not God; this is also God.” Everywhere present yet nowhere contained. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 16

No matter how far away I am from you and how many years before we meet again, I am always missing and blessing you in my heart. When I miss you, ice and snow will turn to tender water flower transferring the scent of Spring. Missing is beautiful loneliness. And only at the time I miss you, loneliness has a special beautiful. Dear friend, let us bury the sweet whisper of the past years in our deep hears and turn to beautiful memory. Let the time we spend together flow in our hearts like a happy river. In the perplexity, we fund clarity. By entering into the pieces and becoming the many parts, we rediscover ourselves. Out-there-in-them we find pieces of ourselves that we have forgotten or overlooked or pushed aside. In the pieces lie the peace. By conversing with complexity, we recover our contact. In the variedness, we discover our vitality. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 16

In the dark night, on the sea, thank you for bringing wind and hanging the lamp of my sailing. It makes my boat of life across the dark nights and waves. I miss our World. I am a little bird under the eaves of the house in my hometown with my wings fraught with your affectionate love. The young birds of that day knew nothing of the blue sky and their hearts are filled with unsolved riddles. Now they can soar in the sky with the help of their strong swings to look for the answers to the riddles. However, no matter how high and how far they can fly, they will never forget their sweet home nor their parents’ bounties in bringing them up. #RyanPhillippe 6 of 16

While we have known this the mystical tradition, we have not, by and large, understood how to find it ourselves. In recent years a behavioral technology has become available that can help us in the task. Biofeedback necessitates the use of elaborate equipment; drugs require the supervision of a trained professional. Because of the risks involved and the rigor demanded, altered states of consciousness out not to be explored casually. In contrast, one of the most helpful approaches to finding oneself in one’s World has been Gestalt therapy. #RyanPhillippe 7 of 16

Gestalt is a German word meaning whole, constellation, configuration. The pattern consists of a figure which is the focal point and a ground which is the setting. The figure/ground relationship determines what is seen and what is not seen. There are several rules crucial to expressing ourselves in everything. These rules help us in recovering our several selves. When acted upon, they enable us to find in the many our one. We tale back into awareness and assume responsibility for those aspects of ourselves that we have put into the World. We recontact that which we have cut off. We reintegrate our complexity into a complementary process. As we are our projections, so we become ourselves. #RyanPhillippe 8 of 16

We are to turn every other-referent pronoun—“it” or “you” or “he” or “she” or “they” –into the personal pronoun “I.” Instead of using the second or third person singular or plural, we are to speak in the first person singular. Instead of saying, “My stomach is upset,” say, “I am upset.” Instead of saying, “People are always hiding what they feel,” say, “I hide what I feel.” The use of the pronoun I transforms alienated experience into owned experience. Life is a journey without an end. Wherever I go, even to the ends of the Earth, I remember clearly your smile, your teaching, you voice and your spirit! #RyanPhillippe 9 of 16

Sunlight and dew endow me with new life; wisdom and knowledge shape me with a new soul. Let Spring flowers bring my heartfelt blessing to you. We are to make the past present. We are to be here-and-now rather than being there-and-then. What initially is not-here becomes here; what initially is not-now becomes now. In transforming lived existence into living experience, there is one qualification we are required to remember. The substance, the base, the foundation, that which stands under our here-and-now, always resides out in the there-and-then. Only in eternity is there no distinction, no separation, no time, and no place. Within history there is always the complementary process of here-and-now and there-and-then. I am not your best student, but you are my most respectable teacher. Today, your student wishes you an eternal youth. #RyanPhillippe 10 of 16

Your patient instructions are turned into wisdom, warm blood and regulations. I thank you for your painstaking cultivation. Within history there is always the complementary process of here-and-now and there-and-then Making the past present means that the there-and-then is available to us for support and substance in our here-and-now. Being present in the past means that there here-and-now is mobilizing meaning and power in our there-and-then. You bring me into a colorful World, a limitless World. My heart is calling you and saluting you. When we fly, embracing the sky with forceful position and ardent hands, we will embrace you. #RyanPhillippe 11 of 16

Stars will kindle your birthday candle, and flowers will be at your side. On your merry birthday night, please accept my small complimentary card. We are to shift from the passive mode of “having” experience to the active mode of “being” experience. Instead of reacting, we act. Instead of receiving, we initiate. Instead of waiting, we intend. We cease to be blank tablets upon whom the environment writes its script. We become writers with our own stories to tell. I do not know how to bless you with my expecting heart. May we meet occasionally in the voyage of life and have a warm smile at the moment you suddenly turn back your head. #RyanPhillippe 12 of 16

Short as it was, our meeting has shaped my life. Please accept my lasting yearning for you, my dear friend. We are to finish unfinished business. Much of the time we clutter our lives with debris from the past. A bit of it represents cherished experiences; most of it constitutes crippling experiences. We hang on to that which we need to let go. In the theological language this “finishing” reflects the experience of grace and forgiveness. We are to push the past into the past; we are to remember to forget; we are to be in the present as we live toward the future. We are required to return in our active imagination to the painful experiences that continue to haunt us. By living in them again we are able to let go of what is back there. We finish the situation. We are freed to be where we are in the here-and-now. #RyanPhillippe 13 of 16

We can let go of the past in order to give ourselves in the present for the sake of the future. May you in your common position make uncommon contributions until you realize your great ideal! How can the frozen World thaw overnight? How can the freshly awakened Earth turn into a World of prosperity? May you accumulate more for some creation. We begin to discover a more inclusive and more including self than we are aware of ordinarily. We become more assertive, not by “taking it out” on others, but rather by finding the courage to be as ourselves. We express more agreement, not by “giving in” to others, but rather by the courage to be part of the whole. Thus, we experience reality in our identity as human beings and express integrity in our identification with humanity as a whole. #RyanPhillippe 14 of 16

We begin to experience the possibility of being both centered as ourselves and care-ful of others. We begin to behave in ways that are expressive of who we are and adaptive to who others are. The key lies within ourselves. The World ceases to be a separate and alien reality. In the Kingdom of Heaven all is in all, all is one, and all is ours. I suggest that for the present all these problems be laid aside, and that a single path be pursued. We have found that out dream represents a wish as fulfilled. Our next purpose should be to ascertain whether this is a general characteristic of dreams, or whether it is only the accidental content of the particular dream with which we have begun our analysis; for even if we conclude that every dream has meaning and psychic value, we must nevertheless allow for the possibility that this meaning may not be the same in every dream. #RyanPhillippe 15 of 16

The first dream which we have considered was the fulfilment of a wish; another may turn out to be the realization of an apprehension; a third may have a reflection as its content; a fourth may simple reproduce a reminiscence. Are there, then, dreams other than wish-dreams; or are there none but wish-dreams? What causes the striking and unfamiliar manner in which this fulfilment is expressed? What transformation taken place? Whence comes the material that is worked on in the dream? What causes many of the peculiarities which are to be observed in our dream-thoughts; for example, how is it that they are able to contradict one another? Is the dream capable of teaching us something new concerning our internal psychic process, and can its content correct opinions which we have held during the day? #RyanPhillippe 16 of 16
