And God Granted His Request—Courage can Only be Opened from the Inside

Eternal life in Heaven is promised to the believer that is sealed by the Holy Spirit. You can be sure you have a house of in Heaven when you know God. We shall find our hearts enlarged in charity toward humans; by considering the relation wherein they stand unto God, and the impressions of his image which are stamped upon them. They are not only his creatures, the workmanship of his hands, but such of whom he taken special care, and for whom he hath a very dear and tender regard, having laid the designs of their happiness before the foundations of the World, and being willing to live and converse with them in all the ages of eternity. The meanest and most contemptible person whom we behold is the offspring of Heaven, one of the children of the Most High; and however unworthy he might behave himself of that relation, so long as God hath not abdicated and disowned him by a final sentence, he will have us to acknowledge him as one of him, and as such to embrace him with a sincere and cordial affection. The doctrine of the Kingdom of Heaven, which was the main teaching of Jesus Christ, is certainly one of the most revolutionary doctrines that ever stirred and changed human thought. #RandolphHarris 1 of 6

You know what a great concernment we are wont to have for those that do any ways belong to the person whom we love; how gladly we lay hold on every opportunity to gratify the child or servant of a friend and sure our love towards God would as naturally spring forth in charity towards humans, did we mind the interest that God is please to take in them, and consider that every soul is dearer unto one than all the material World; and that God did not account the blood of his Son too great a price for their redemption. Heaven should be considered one of the most important subjects of faith. The fear of eternal torment in Hell could be a strong incentive to choose salvation, but is it is not the foundation of our faith. Heaven is the place where our Savior Jesus Christ sits at the right hand of our Almighty Father God. Jesus is the foundation of our faith; the chief corner stone. Our blessed hope is the appearing of Jesus Christ who will redeem us. It is the Creator’s Grand Army, and he is the Commander-in-Chief. With these facts before you, now try to guess human’s chief’s pet name for this ferocious Commander-in-Chief? I will save you the trouble, but you must not laugh. It is our father in Heaven. #RandolphHarris 2 of 6

What is pleasant is good. Knowledge is pleasant. Therefore, knowledge is good. Value means the worth of a thing, and valuation means an estimate of its worth. Philosophers from the time of Plato had discussed a variety of questions under such headings as the good, the end, the right, obligation, virtue, moral judgement, aesthetic judgment, the beautiful, truth, and validity. All these questions belong to the same family, since they are all concerned with value or what ought to be, not with what is, was, or will be. In the next place, for purifying our souls, and disentangling our affections from the pleasures and enjoyments of this terrestrial life, let us frequently ponder the excellency and dignity of our nature, and what a shameful and unworthy thing it is for so noble and divine creatures as the soul of human, to be sunk and immersed in brutish and sensual lusts, or amused with airy and fantastical delights, and so to lose the relish of solid and spiritual pleasures; that the best should be fed and pampered, and the human and the Christian be starved in us. #RandolphHarris 3 of 6

Did we but mind who we are, and for what we were made, this would teach us, in a right sense, to reverence and stand in awe of ourselves; it would beget a modesty and shamefacedness, and make us very shy and reversed in the use of the most innocent and allowable pleasures. We should mediate often on the joys of Heaven. It will be very effectual to the purpose that we frequently rise our minds towards Heaven, and represent to our thoughts the joys that are at God’s right hand, those pleasures that endure for evermore; for every human that hath this hope in God purifies oneself, event as God is pure. If our Heavenly country be much in our thoughts, it will make us strangers and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lust, which war against the soul, and keep ourselves unspotted from this World, that we may be fit for the enjoyments and felicities of the other. However, we must see that our notions of Heaven be not gross and carnal, that we dream not of a Mahometan paradise, not rest on those metaphors and similitudes by which these joys are sometimes represented. #RandolphHarris 4 of 6

If we focus on the pleasures of the flesh, it might entangle us farther in carnal affections, and we should be ready to indulge ourselves in a very liberal foretaste of those pleasures wherein we had placed our everlasting felicity. However, when we come once to conceive aright of those pure and spiritual pleasures; when the happiness we propose to ourselves is from the sight, and love, and enjoyment of God, and our minds are filled with the hopes and forethoughts of that blessed estate; O how mean and contemptible will all things here below appear in our eyes! With what disdain shall we reject the gross and muddy pleasures that would deprive us of those celestial enjoyments, or any way unfit and indispose us for them. Jesus Christ is the Conqueror of Death, and all the Enemies of our Salvation: he bids his dispels of good cheer, in that he has overcome the World, and therein the Prince of the World. It is not great satisfaction and comfort that we shall fall into such fate, careful, and faithful hands as those of truly Angels; that never miscarried in any executions or embattles of this kind? Nor, indeed, in any others. #RandolphHarris 5 of 6

They may object, that they are strangers to, and unacquainted with the way to Heaven; they never went it, not have spoken to any that have gone it. However, there is not enough to silence such reformings? For we have all the satisfaction about it that the care will admit of. It is a point of faith, and not of sense, and we are offered that none have miscarried in, but all have got safe through it; and there is nothing wanting on God’s part to secure and bring them to Bleffednefs in Heaven. The happiness which we obtain by Christ, has also this peculiar advantage, which renders it most estimable and wonderful, in that it contains deliverance from death and destruction, as well as a right to life. It supposed a forgiveness of all trespasses, as well as an admission into Heaven, to behold the Mediator’s Glory there. God’s created natural covering is designed to protect the spiritual life, but our individuality must yield to God so that our spiritual life may be brought forth into fellowship with him. God, bless us and enlarge our territory! Let your blessings be with us, and keep us from harm so that we will be set free from pain. #RandolphHarris 6 of 6

The Love of God Shot all His Golden Arrows at Him and Never Pierced His Heart

Heaven will be the perfection we have always longed for. All the things that make Earth unlovely and tragic will be absent in Heaven. Act only on that maxim through which you would like to see established as a universal law. We do not find object and their features divided by nature or God into real and objectively delimited classes; we observe objects and their features, but the distinction between one class and another is something we ourselves make by criteria of convenience and utility. Goodness or badness of a state of consciousness can depend on things other than its pleasantness. The goodness or badness of a state of consciousness can depend, for example, on various intellectual and aesthetic qualities. We will be concerned not only with pleasantness and unpleasantness, but also with such things as knowledge and the contemplation of beautiful objects. However, some pleasant states mind can be intrinsically bad, and some unpleasant ones intrinsically good. Although pleasantness was a necessary condition for goodness, the intrinsic goodness of a state of mind could depend on things other than pleasantness, there are higher and lower pleasures. #RandolphHarris 1 of 9

The Holy Spirit is a powerful energy which sustains the remainder of destined life. You must receive something of Heaven into the soul, before the soul can be received into Heaven. It should be noted that we have assumed that the only things that can be intrinsically good or bad are states of consciousness. Other things can of course be extrinsically good or bad. For example, an Earthquake is normally extrinsically bad, that is, it causes a state of affairs that is on the whole intrinsically bad. Moreover, something which is intrinsically bad, such as the annoyance of remembering that we have forgotten to do something, is extrinsically good, for it is a means to a set of consequences that are on balance intrinsically good. Thinking about Heaven can inspire and encourage us to be more Heavenly-minded and realize that Heaven is a real place where we are really going to live. It is though one had forgotten and now awakened from a dream. All fears are revealed to be groundless; all worries are foolish imaginings. There is no future to fear nor past to regret. Heaven is full of joy and realization of timelessness. #RandolphHarris 2 of 9

On Earth, the moral consciousness in some cases lead us to advocate courses of action which the plain individual would regard as wrong. Consider, for example, the cause of a secret promise to a dying man. To ease his dying moments, I promise him that I will deliver a hoard of money, which he entrusts to me, to a rich and profligate relative of his. No one else knows either about the promise or the hoard. To some utilitarian principles, it would appear that I should not carry out my promise. I can surely put the money to much better use by giving it, say, to a needy hospital. In this way, I would do a lot of good and no harm. I do not disappoint the man to whom I made the promise, because he is dead. Nor, by breaking the promise, do I do indirect harm by weakening human’s faith in the socially useful institution of promise-making and promise-keeping, for on this occasion no knows about the promise. Normally, of course, an act utilitarian will keep a promise even when the direct results are not beneficial, because the indirect effects of sowing mistrust are so harmful. The promise to the dying man should be kept. #RandolphHarris 3 of 9

Final touches of a fading day. You asked me once if I will remember, when I hear you when I dream. And through the echoes and through the shadows and when everything is lost and gone, still there is you. We appeal to feelings, namely, those of generalized benevolence. Since people possess other attitudes too, such as loyalty to a code of morals in which they have brought up, the possession of feelings of generalized benevolence are a rule to prevent unhappiness. These rules conduce to human happiness. Consider a case in which an action, normally of trivial import, happens to have very unfortunate consequences. A man with a head cold goes to the office, instead of nursing his illness at the house. He is visited by an eminent statesman, who catches the cold and, in consequence, is not quite at his best in carrying out some delicate negotiations. These negations just fail by a hairsbreadth, whereas if the statesman had been fully fit they would have succeeded. In consequences, thousands of people die from starvation, a misfortune which would have been avoided if the negations had succeeded. #RandolphHarris 4 of 9

There are limitations to all thought, we cannot leap out of our skins and somehow attain what we cannot attain. These limitations apply not only to humans, but also to the highest Mind of all, and they come about because thought originated as a means to an end. The end is to serve the will to live. These deaths from starvation would therefore not have occurred if the man with a head cold had not gone to his office in an infections state. Someone may be tempted to argue as follows: “Surely it is not a very wrong action to go to the office suffering from a head cold. In some cases, where important work has to be done, it may even be praiseworthy. This action was very wrong, but it was not very bad: that is, it ought not to be blamed very much, if at all. If we blame it, we are concerned with the utility of discouraging similar actions on the part of other people, and since going to the office with a head cold is not normally productive of very bad consequences, this action, although in fact very wrong, was not a very bad or blameworthy one. Philosophy is no superscience that can teach scientists what they should do. It can only prepare the intellectual climate and furnish some of the necessary tools. #RandolphHarris 5 of 9

Philosophy is a neutral enterprise that can receive contributions from people holding different personal beliefs and conceptions. It should avoid the struggles between systems which, let us hope, will some day end like the reported fight between the two lions who ate one another up leaving only their tails on the ground. The striving toward the Kingdom of God is what matters, not the achieving of it. The glorious Majesty of Heaven hath regarded to us, how must it astonish and delight us, how much it overcome our spirits, and melt our hearts, and put our whole soul into flame! The word of god is full of the expressions of his love toward humans, so all his works do loudly proclaim it. God gave us our being, and, by preserving us in it, does renew the donation every moment. He hath provided for all our necessities. God rains down blessings from Heaven upon us, and causes the Earth to bring forth our provision. He gives us our food and raiment, and while we are spending the productions of one year, he is preparing for us against another. #RandolphHarris 6 of 9

God sweetens our lives with innumerable comforts, and gratifies every faculty with suitable objects. The eyes of his providence is always upon us, and he watches for our safety when we are fast asleep, neither minding him nor ourselves. However, lest we should think these testimonies of his kindness less considerable, because they are easy issues of his omnipotent power, and do not put him to any trouble or pain, he hath taken a more wonderful method to endure himself to us; God hath testified his affection to us by suffering as well as by doing; and because he could not suffer in his own nature he assumed ours. The eternal Son of God did clothe himself with infirmities of our flesh, and left the company of those innocent and blessed spirits who knew well how to love and adore him, that he might dwell among humans, and wrestle with the obstinacy of that rebellious race, to reduce them to their allegiance and felicity, and then to offer himself up as a sacrifice and propitiation for them. God had long contended with a stubborn World, and thrown down many blessings upon them; and when all his other gifts cold not prevail, he at last made a gift of himself, to testify his affection and engage theirs. #RandolphHarris 7 of 9

The account which we have of our Saviour’s life in the gospel, does all along present us with the story of his love: all the pains that he took, and the troubles that he endured, were the wonderful effects and uncontrollable evidence of it. However, that last, that dismal scene! Is it possible to remember it, and question God’s kindness, or deny him ours. Here, here it is, my dream friend, that we should fix our most serious and solemn thoughts, that Christ may dwell in our hearts by faith; that we, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints with the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, that we may be filled with the fulness of God. We ought also frequently to reflect on those particular tokens of favour and love, which God hath bestowed on ourselves; how long he hath borne with our follies and sins, and waited to be gracious unto us—wrestling, as it were, with the stubbornness of our hearts, and essaying every method to reclaim us. I ever enjoy your protection by faithfully witnessing to Christ. #RandolphHarris 8 of 9

We should keep a register in our minds of all the eminent blessings and deliverances we have met with, some whereof have been so conferred, that we might clearly perceive they were not the issue of but the gracious chance, but the gracious effects of the divine favour, and the signal returns of our prayers. Nor ought we to embitter the thoughts of these things with any harsh or unworthy suspicious, as if they were designed on purpose to enhance our guilt, and heighten our eternal damnation. No, no, my friend, God is love, and he hath no pleasure in the ruin of his creatures. If they abuse his goodness, and turn his grace into wantonness, and thereby plunge themselves into the greater depth of guilt and misery, this is the effect of their obstinate wickedness, and not the design of those benefits which God bestows. If these considerations had once begotten in our hearts a real love and affection towards Almighty God, that would easily lead us unto the other branches Heaven. Christ, I hope for the restored health of body and soul, hasten to lead me to the true Good, God alone. #RandolphHarris 9 of 9

In Loving Memory of musician Robert Miles

Heaven would Never be Heaven without You

Earth is charmed with Heaven. I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now. Daydreams and fantasies—necessitous, frequently mysterious expressions of private ideas—are called utopian, as if wishful thinking and utopia were synonymous. Perfection is conceived of as harmony, the harmony of each living being with oneself, others around them and the environment. The tradition of utopian thought, in this restricted sense, is thus made up of ideas and images of social harmony. The forerunners of the utopian tradition are the fables and myths of the golden age, the Garden of Eden, or some benign state of nature. These inherited stories, although of considerable antiquity, look back to some even more remote time in the dim past when harmony was allegedly the normal condition of life. Remorse or nostalgia is the usual accompaniment of these stories; reality is not what it was, nor can it ever again be what it was, except perhaps through some divine intercession. Heaven is a wonderful pace and the benefits for the believer are out of this World. #RandolphHarris 1 of 7

An uncontrived harmony characterized the primal felicity. Simple people led simple lives, but because human nature was undeveloped, people were easily made content. If the glories and pleasures of civilization were missing, so were its artificialities and corruptions. Whenever disgust or disenchantment with civilization has become acute, these antiquated stories are retold in order to expose the faults of civilization. However, apart from their role in this fundamentally self-conscious method of striking at an existing order, these stories are primarily interesting as repositories of the age-old longings of ordinary humanity. All that the World is summed up in short and tantalizing descriptions. Sometimes long ago, when people were still in touch with the sources of reality, they lived without domination, irrational inequality, scarcity, brutalizing labor, warfare, and the tortures of conscience; they lived without disharmony of any form. The good life is defined by the absence of these things. The framework of the good life, the condition of harmony, must be social. Heavenly rest will be so refreshing that we will never feel that exhaustion of mind and body we so frequently experience now. #RandolphHarris 2 of 7

In Heaven, I wish with all my heart that I can reclaim all the time I have let slip through my fingers, that I can call back those countless conversations which could have glorified my Lord—but did not. The succession of ideas and images of social harmony hold that society be perfect or much closer to perfection than any society in the real World. The good life may be more or less civilized, more or less scientific, more or less abundant, more or less hierarchal, more or less free, but it must be organized and institutionally articulated. We focus on what is genuinely human rather than merely conventional, or of human’s potentialities. These discourses are not always consciously utopian; they may be directed to individual reformation or to preparation of the afterlife. They aim to assess the various kinds of human activity, the various pleasures open to people, or the various styles of life made possible by civilization or science. A utopia can be an intellectual effort at mastering the complexity of social phenomena; part of the effort consists of rearranging social phenomena; to form a more rational or beautiful pattern. Another cause is the desire for moral clarity. #RandolphHarris 3 of 7

Even when we allow our imagination to run wild on the joys of Heaven, we find that our minds are incapable of conceiving what it will be like. By painting a fair picture of felicity and suggesting that the World is, as presently made up, remote felicity, one may encourage an innovating spirit. At the same time, this utopia will give at least guidelines for reform. There may be no real expectation that the utopia will ever fully materialize or, indeed, that pure felicity can be had on any terms. The whole truth about social harmony is known, can be imparted, and should be acted on. There must be a sense of deep, intolerable wrong. There must also be a sense of enormous possibility, of not only righting the wrongs but also going beyond perfection itself, and either an overpowering group—or self-confidence or the conviction that the utopian leaders and their following are the instruments of some higher will or the culmination of some impersonal process. Utopianism is also a record of human aspiration. For the record to be complete, many other kinds of utterance must be consulted. They are peculiarly vivid forms take by permanent human wants. The revelation of psychological intelligence acknowledges that we can encourage hope that human nature is malleable beyond the limits assigned by Worldly pessimism or theological despair. #RandolphHarris 4 of 7

The Bible says as long as we are on Earth, we are strangers in a foreign land. There are enemies to be conquered before we return home. This World is not our home; our citizenship is in Heaven. New social milieus can emerge. As inward acts have a more immediate influence on the soul, to mould it to a right temper and frame, so ought we to be most frequent and sedulous in the exercise of them. Let us be often lifting up our hearts toward God; and if we do not say that we love him above all things, let us at least acknowledge, that it is our duty, and would be our happiness, so to do; let us lament the dishonor done to him by the foolish and sinful people, and applaud the praises and adorations that are given by God that blessed and glorious company above: let us resign and yield ourselves up onto him a thousand times, to be governed by his laws, and disposed of at his pleasures; and through our stubborn hearts should be set back and refuse, yet let us tell God we are convinced that his will is always just and good; and therefore, desire him to do with us whatsoever he please, whether we will or not. And so, for begetting in us a universal charity towards humanity, we must be frequently putting up wishes for their happiness, and blessing every person that we see. #RandolphHarris 5 of 7

Heaven makes this life more important. And when we have done anything for the relief of the miserable, we may second it with earnest desires, that God would take care of them, and deliver them out of all their distresses. Thus, should we exercise ourselves unto godliness, and when we are employing the powers that we have, the Spirit of God is wont to strike in and elevate these acts of our soul beyond the pitch of nature, and give them a divine impression; and, after the frequent reiteration of these, we shall find ourselves more inclined unto them, they flowing with greater freedom and ease. The psychoanalytic interpretation reveals that the reality principle enforces a change not only in the form and timing of pleasure but in its very substance. Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, grant that I may not so much seek to be loved as to love. Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snared of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the World for ruin of souls. #RandolphHarris 6 of 7

I bind unto myself today the power of God to hold and lead, His eyes to watch, His might to stay, His ear to hearken to my need; the wisdom of my God to teach, His hands to guide, His shield to ward; the word of God to give me speech, his Heavenly host to be my guard. Christ be with me Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort me and restore me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in all the hearts of all who love me, Christ in the mouth of friend and stranger, I bind myself the Name, the strong Name of the Trinity, by invocation of the same, the Three in One, and One in Three, of whom all nature hath creation; Eternal Father, Spirit, Word: praise to the Lord of my salvation, salvation is of Christ the Lord. Lord, make me your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. #RandolphHarris 7 of 7

God is Wonderful in His Design and Excellent in His Working

Not until we have passed through the furnace are we made to know how much dross there is in our composition. Discussions of the unconscious have largely focused on the concept, not on theory. The original problems have thus been obscured and our perspective of psychoanalysis distorted. In order to clarify the problem, we must concentrate on the phases of the problem facing the theories proposed to solve it. To understand hysterical manifestations, under hypnosis patients recounted tales of trauma, which made their physical disorders understandable—but only on the hypothesis that these symptoms were motivated. The traumatic situations the patients described distressed them and their motives were also distressing and were forgotten to avoid the distress. It seems that memories of forgotten events remain somewhere in the mind and their sole function is to fill gaps between conscious events. The forgotten motive and the distress connected with it actually produce the nervous complaint. When the unconscious motive and the distress it would give to consciousness together give rise to symptoms or inhibitions. #RandolphHarris 1 of 7

However, if a patient could be persuaded or educated out of a sense of shame, one should be able to recover the memory of the motive, and the physical disorders should cease—but the test could probably not be carried out. Another possibility is to force the patient to re-experience the motive and the distress connected with it the trauma under hypnosis, the accustoming one to the situation and enabling the individual to recover the lost memory, so that the physical symptoms would cease. This theory worked on many patients who experiences paralysis in 1900, 1912, and 1915. Whereas only controlled experiment may persuade orthodox experimentalist that a hypothesis is testable, the clinical method of testing is, methodologically speaking, equally valid, provided it is carried out with predicted end that will refute the hypothesis if it fails to materialize. Nonetheless, when transition from hypnosis to psychoanalysis, one must remember that hypnosis for purely practical reasons does not work on everyone. And forcing and hypnosis is not always successful since they both involve making a patient conscious of an idea that was greatly distressing. #RandolphHarris 2 of 7

We are always in the forge, or on the anvil; by trials God is shaping us for higher things. Forcing and free association are the same: one could work from a conscious idea to an unconscious, distressing idea by focusing attention progressively on the links of a chain of intermediate ideas of which the first few are conscious. This hypothesis was sometimes fruitful, for at the times unconscious ideas were recovered in this way. Methodologically, this means the theory is testable. On the one hand, the theory of unconscious remains broadly unchanged; it still contains the hypothesis that there is a motive, that the motive is distressing, that there is forgetting, and that all these together cause the disturbance complained of. However, the degree of unconscious ideas varies in how far it is removed from the threshold. The unconscious is dynamic and rooted in the emotions and this gives rise to all the richness of conscious life. It is also possible to recover unconscious phantasy. These traumas have nothing to do with trauma because these phantasies were never conscious in the first place, and it implies that a motive, the distress it causes, and the repressing factors have all been at times unconscious.  #RandolphHarris 3 of 7

Storms make oaks take deeper roots. Repression is a way that the unconscious superego acts both as control and defense. To psychoanalysts it is so familiar as to be accepted as fact. However, the facts are simply that people forget things and that there is an ascertainable motive for forgetting them. The theory of repression conjectures a mechanism by which a force is exerted to produce this result. Thus, the fact of repression is hardly in doubt, but there is no knowledge of its mechanism. This is not unreasonable; we do not question the factual certainty of many familiar mechanisms whose workings are nevertheless mysterious, for example, the clutch mechanism of a car. Thus, we may work with a clutch or the fact of repression while only conjecturing the existence of a mechanism that requires investigation. Repression is the force of pushing some idea out of consciousness and to defense in general. Distressing ideas are also sometimes unconsciously projected onto somebody else. Distressing ideas, then, are perfectly conscious but are ascribed to another person because some do not want to face the blame for their poor decisions, or want to protect an individual by placing the blame on someone who had nothing to do with the situation. For instance, a woman may take the pain of domestic violence out on her brother to protect the image of her husband and that way she can release her anger and also victimized someone else, which may make her feel powerful or vindicated. Misery loves company. This phenomenon suggests an altogether different topological structure of the mind suggested by repression. #RandolphHarris 4 of 7

The mind is divided horizontally, with the conscious above and the unconscious below, whereas in the phenomenon of splitting the mind is divided by a vertical plane into two segments, both felt to be inside the body unless projection take place. The two models, however, have something in common—in each case, something is felt to be lost to the personality: either consciousness is deprived of something repressed or the projected part of the personality is lost. Of course, both could occur, but it may also be that splitting process are more fundamental, in the sense that repression may be explained as the outcome of a certain kind of splitting. The motive is to split off and project because the distress it gives rise to, and in this way it is not accessible to consciousness in the ordinary sense of feeling owned, even though its existence is recognized, and this situation leads to symptoms and inhibitions. The first phase involved the structure of preconscious motivation and preconscious distress, the combination of which constitutes a dynamism producing a neurotic disorder. “As the Heavens are higher than Earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than yours,” says God. #RandolphHarris 5 of 7

The unconscious seeks pleasure, and that in them there was no awareness of objects and therefore no object relationship. Wisdom has pointed out that the splitting can be maintained in the face of any apparent exceptions, just as physicists can always postulate a new form of energy when the principle of the conservation of the energy has apparently been violated. Thus, by retraining the natural inclinations, they do not break out into sinful practices. However, we must also restrain from gratifications that are not simply unlawful, and that, not only that we may secure our innocence, which would be in continual hazard, if we should strain our liberty to the utmost point; but also, that thereby we may weaken the force of nature, and teach our appetites to obey. We must do with ourselves as prudent parents with their children, who cross their wills in many little indifferent things, to make them manageable and submissive in more considerable instances. The natural life is not spiritual, and it can be made spiritual only through sacrifice. If we do not purposely sacrifice the natural, the supernatural can never become natural to us. We have to perform God’s will. #RandolpHarris 6 of 7

One who would mortify the price and vanity of one’s spirit, should stop one’s ears to the most deserved praises, and sometimes forbear one’s just vindication from the censures and aspersions of others, especially if they reflect only upon one’s prudence and conduct, and not on one’s virtue and innocence. One who would check a revengeful humour, would do well to deny oneself the satisfaction of representing unto others the injuries which one hath sustained; and if we would so take heed to our ways, that we sin not with our tongue, we must accustom ourselves much to solitude and silence, and hold our peace even from good, till once we have gotten some command over that unruly member. Thus, I say, we may bind up our natural inclinations, and make our appetites more moderate in their cravings, by accustoming them to frequent refusals; but it is not enough to have them under violence and restraint. Do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. However, rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. #RandolphHarris 7 of 7

Why Does the Flower Turn to Face the Sun?

To clear the air of mirages, clichés, and lies are in this country’s very atmosphere has been filled with for hundreds of years. I am telling you like it is! You never have to worry about me biting my tongue if something I know as truth is on my mind. Feelings aroused by the touch of someone’s hand, the sound of music, the fragrance of a flower, a beautiful Sunset (Sun changing angles in the sky), a work of art, love, laughter, hope and faith—all work on both the unconscious and the conscious aspects of the self, and they have physiological consequences as well. Properly speaking, the unconscious is the real psychic; its inner nature is just as unknown to us as the reality of the external World, and it is just as imperfectly reported to us through the data of consciousness as is the external through the indications of our sensory organs. In the first place, it can hardly have escaped any one that we base everything upon the assumptions of a psyche of the mass in which psychic processes occur as in the psychic life of the individual. I utilized a penholder falling from my hands, also signified a sacrifice, but this time, it was a pious offering to avert some evil. #RandolphHarris 1 of 19

In many communities, especially small communities, people have created a benevolent image of themselves as having had so much good-will toward our public, every time any local individual begins suddenly letting the local community leaders know the truth—that the general population is sick of being hind-tit, second-class, disfranchised, that is when you hear, uttered so sadly, “Unfortunately now because of this, our community leaders are starting to turn against the public….It is so regrettable because progress was being made, but now our communications between the social classes have broken down!” We can only see conditions. An obvious example is that one can only start from where one is. Under the impact of new developments in science, ideas in all fields are undergoing rapid change. This is especially true of the Victorians conception of the unconsciousness, which is a general sense for all those mental processes of which the individual is not aware while they occur in one. There is no creature whose inward being is so strong that it is not greatly determined by what lies outside. #RandolphHarris 2 of 19

The present interest in the unconscious is a result of the advance of science and psychology during the past hundred years, and to understand this interest requires some knowledge of the history of ideas. However, the timing of this outburst of interest, its intensity (which is greatest in the English-speaking countries and least in Russia and China), and the particular conception of the unconscious which is not dominant are mainly due to a high degree of success in creating widespread appreciation of the power of the unconscious. This makes the subject a matter of great importance. There have been few peoples since, say, 3,000 years Before Christ that has not possessed myths expressing a sense of the power of divine or natural agencies to influence the individual without one being aware of that influence. Before the emergence of clear conceptions regarding nature and humans there prevailed a sense of the continuity of phenomena, and it was taken for granted that humans were part of a totality in which anything might influence anything else. This assumption of continuity is evident in much of Eastern thought. #RandolphHarris 3 of 19

Western recognition, from around After Death of Christ 1,600, of unconscious mental processes, at first philosophical but gradually becoming more scientific, may be superficially regarded as the rediscover of something that had long been taken for granted in certain Eastern traditions and also in some Greek and Christian writings. Plotinus held that the absence of a conscious perception is no proof of the absence of mental activity. The memory is a faculty extending beyond the grasp of the conscious mind. There is a theory of the mind covering processes in the soul of which we are not immediately aware, and most mystics assumed that insights might be gained by a process of inner reception in which the conscious mind is passive. However, these early ideas lack an essential feature of the modern concept of the unconscious that became possible only after Western thought has set out on the search for precision and scientific validity and, in doing so, had separated the conscious of mind from material processes; that is, this became possible only from about 1600 on. #RandolphHarris 4 of 19

For the ultimate purpose of the concept of unconscious mental processes is to link conscious awareness and behavior with its background—a system of processes of which one is not immediately aware—and to establish this connection without losing the benefits of scientific precision. Here lies the weakness of the concept of the unconscious: it cannot be made fully acceptable to the scientific age until some science or union of sciences has provided an adequate conception of the unity and continuity of conscious thought, unconscious cerebral processes, physiological changes, and the process of growth. In fact, the idea of the unconscious (or some equivalent) can acquire scientific status only after a unified picture of the human organism has repaired the intellectual lesions created by the Cartesian coordinate system that specifics each point uniquely in a plane by a pair of numerical coordinates, which are the signed distances to the point from two fixed perpendicular directed lines, measured in the same unit of the mind as being wholly separate from the corporeal body, and other dualistic or specialized methods. #RandolphHarris 5 of 19

The mind is awareness, provoked as a reaction the Western rediscovery of unconscious mental processes. Mental activity of various kinds occurs without awareness. One can say that the existence of the unconscious mind has become a common assumption of educated and psychological discussions; however, its structure, mode of operation, and role in illness are still being explored. There may be some vital energy without clear consciousness or express attention—our human souls are not always conscious of whatever they have in them—that vital sympathy, by which our soul is united and tied fast to the body, but only in its effect—there is also a more interior kind of plastic power of the soul whereby it is formative of its own cogitations, which it itself is not always conscious of. Soul loss can occur when parts of our souls travel off into other realms, or alternative realities, sometimes being possessed by spirits. When these parts of our souls are not recovered, we cannot seem to find inner completion or wholeness. Aside from our incapacity to feel whole, we begin experiencing feelings of weakness, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and emptiness.  #RandolphHarris 6 of 19

Some people who lose their soul may not be able to have romantic relationship, reproduce, and may not connect with other. You will sense a feeling of hollowness around them, like they are not really there. There is no greatness or warmth of mind or feeling because of unsatisfactoriness is innate in birth, aging, death, rebirth, redeath. The core of the spiritual quest is happening in parallel with mutual influences. It is a rare opportunity for an individual to find their ideas on liberation through realization of the true nature of existence. One is here for a reason and it is thought the soulless individual does not really have free will. How much more the formation of our ideas remains secret! Conscious and unconscious in the creative imagination are like warp and weft. The unconscious is really the largest realm in our minds, and just on account of this unconsciousness the inner Africa, whose unknown boundaries may extend far away. The unconscious will in nature and in humans as one’s central theme. The key to the understanding of the character of the conscious lies in the region of the unconscious because the mind is regarded as an iceberg largely below the surface and moved by hidden currents. #RandolphHarris 7 of 19

The conscious is the most important aspect of any being because the mental energy, a topography of the mind, an unpleasure-pleasure principle, and a universal tendency toward stability is achieved. However, it is considered by some philosophers that the consciousness is overvalued because it only touches the surface. Every sequence in consciousness is completely atomistic. The real continuous process takes place below our consciousness; the series and sequence of feeling, thoughts, and so on, are symptoms of this underlying process. All out conscious motives are superficial phenomena; behind them stands the conflict of our instincts and conditions. Where are the new doctors of the soul so we can identity afresh, unprejudiced by all this speculation, and try to identify the precise structure of unconscious processes and their role in particular mental disturbances, so that lesions of the mind might be repaired by systematic techniques. We are concerned with developing and often modified theory of the unconscious mind. #RandolphHarris 8 of 19

The operation of unconscious inhibited ideas and their pressure on consciousness, and of the resulting conflict between conscious and unconscious ideas at the threshold of consciousness. We should not take advantage of the conscious and unconscious because what a person says and does might has deeper meanings than you know. For example, a person may want a large house and stay home and clean it all day because it is safe and one could get exercise without leaving the house. You would be surprised how many miles you can walk when you do house work inside of the house, and this would protect that individual from hardships they may experience. However, unconsciously the person is kind of experiencing an inner death and using the house as a crypt, when one can purify and clean the soul, so when God inspect it, he will find it spotless. So perhaps it is not the person or the house that is dirty, but the individual wants to avoid the dirtiness in the World. Being upset and saying bad things is ungodly, but shutting in and avoiding the World is also bad, unless you fear for your life and safety. No one would want to constantly experience unpleasant things and feel like it is their last days. #RandolphHarris 9 of 19

Emotions and action play a role of the unconscious, thus providing background for the psychiatrist. The pathology of the mind expresses unconscious cerebration. All mental processes are determined by natural laws, ultimately by those governing chemical and physical phenomena; they are associated with quantities of psychic energy that strive toward release and equilibrium; the primary driving force is instinctual energy (libido, a concept that was at first narrowly, then more  widely interpreted) expressing an often unconscious wish, and moving from unpleasure to physical pleasure (pleasure principle); the predominant energy is sexual, but other forms are present, and sexuality is a broad sense and aggression. The establishment of civilized life involves restraints on sexual activity, and the unconscious proper (theory the accessible unconscious being called preconscious) consists of instinctual energies, either archaic or repressed during the life of the individual, particularly in childhood (universal forbidden desires of the earliest years, adolescent frustrated dreaming, aggressive impulses, etc.); these are available only through the use of special techniques. #RandolphHarris 10 of 19

A genetic or developmental approach to mental illness is therefore essential. Forgetting is an active process in which painful memories are repressed. The unconscious is a pool of mainly repressed energies, distorted by frustration and exerting a stress on conscious reason and its shaping pf the patterns of daily life. The strain produced by this stress, present in come degree in all civilized men and women, is seen in neurosis. It is only by exceptional luck in heredity or experience that civilized humans can avoid this tragic and potentially universal feature of modern life, the major influence of the unconscious being antagonistic to reason. This doom and neurosis one can escape (wholly might be considered true for some) by becoming aware of one’s situation and gaining insight into the particular traumatic experience which created one’s neurosis. Insight does bring recovery. The interpretation of dreams (which are symptoms and express wish fulfillment) and the process of free association can render accessible the regions of the unconscious producing the neurosis and can make possible the cure. #RandolphHarris 11 of 19

Myths express for communities what dreams do for the individual. We all suffer in some degree from the neurosis of civilization. The theory of repressed unconscious, and it relation to child sexuality, aggression, defense mechanisms, sublimation, and so forth, is a permanent contribution of the highest importance. On the other hand, there sharp categories (conscious—unconscious, wishful—realistic, stages of the sexual development, etc.) are merely recognized, provisional steps toward the truth. However, the attitude toward the unconscious has been regarded as biological. Yet, it was not so in a genuine sense, for all viable organisms display an organizing principle, not quite understood, which ensures that everything occurs in support of the continuation of life. This coordination and formative principle underlies all organic properties, including the process of the human unconscious, such as the imaginative and inventive faculties without which civilization could not have developed. Much research on the unconscious lacks physicochemical information to the organism dominant ideas of the theory of the mind. #RandolphHarris 12 of 19

When it comes to the mind, many people are over analytic or atomistic, but lack a general and powerful principle of coordination. Many people treat the person as a unity, but they do not address the conscious and unconscious division as basic because they hold that inaccessible unconscious contains elements which have never been repressed but which are simply not yet understood and are unconsciously assumed in the endeavor to adapt socially and to overcome supposed or real weakness. The individual’s aspiration or unconscious need to realize a potential unity is part of a collective unconscious, which is not a group mind, but the deepest level in the individual mind, consisting of potentialities for ways of thinking shared by all people because their genetic constitutions are closely similar and their family and social experiences share certain universal features. In a given society, the collective unconscious contains particular traditional symbols or archetypes which organize thought and action. #RandolphHarris 13 of 19

This sociological concept of the deeper mental levels involves a historical background in which ritual, myth, symbol, and religious attitude play organizing and integrating roles that contribute to the strength and stability of the psyche and that are subject to an underlying tendency developing a differentiated unity in the person (individuation).  The tension of superficially opposed aspects in the unconscious mind produces autonomous foci of energy, acting as complexes. The ultimate aim is not discovery of truth, but the acceptance of the role of deep psychology in the present historical situation: assistance in the search for life-enhancing significance in the fate of living in a scientific age at a time when traditional sources of strength have been weakened but a fully comprehensive scientific truth is not yet insight. These are discursive communication of attitudes, rather than being steps toward an ultimately confirmable theory of unconscious mental process. There are some other things that one may need to considered, which is not covered in the textbook. #RandolphHarris 14 of 19

What if a person is truly haunted, being stalked by a group of people, or being terrorized by a rogue group of people who want to end his life. If a person sat down in the office and conveyed what was going on, that person would likely be diagnosed with a mental disorder and hospitalized and placed on medication. However, to really figure out what is going on with an individual, you would have to spend time with that person to see if that individual was really in danger or it was just their imagination. By the time anyone can truly see what is going on, and if it is real, this danger would be widespread and would have persisted for years and an individual would have likely been terrorized and suffered serious injuries, but knowing how it would sound to others and the consequences would keep it to oneself. Furthermore, if the situation get so out of control that it is unclear if the individual is a victim of terrorism, and as a result has started to manifest unusual things in their lives, by that time a person has probably lost their soul and life is just a duty to God. #RandolphHarris 15 of 19

It seems that no important basic advance has been made in the theoretical understanding of the unconscious mind. Certainly no one has yet made a satisfactory synthesis of the reliable features of their views. Thus, there has been a pause in the advance of the theory of subjective deep psychology. Assistance from the neurophysiology might help to determine what is going on. Because it could be that an individual is being terrorized and people are trying to make it seem that the mind is manifesting a particular paranormal activity or it is a conspiracy to make an individual believe they are a different type of being, or it could be a little of both. I have done research on the individual and medications were administered, psychotropic drugs, and the individual was encouraged to overdose after being told that he is responsible for people attacking him and that it was all in his mind and that if he took more medication, it would stop. As a result the patient did overdose on three or four occasions, was taken to the emergency room, and even spent years drinking wine to pass out to escape the problems. #RandolphHarris 16 of 19

Some might assume that the individual is an alcoholic or a drug attic, but the issues the patient was facing in society because so pervasive that it is hard not to notice that this individual is haunted and or the victim of terrorism. It is sad when an individual is in danger and has no one to turn to and even turns to reckless means just to stay alive until someone can come up with a rational solution as to how to solve the problem. The good news is the individual has stopped drinking and takes no medication and has resulted to spending hours every day praying, but there have been changes such as trust issues, and other things. He just seems to be floating by, through life, alone, on a wing and a prayer. It should be noted that the individual has also been treated for some very serious physical injuries, which would indicate some form of abuse is taking place. We should now consider what the unconscious has stood for in the minds of different groups. The mystics saw it as the link with God; the Christians Platonists as a divine creative principle; the romantics as the connection between the individual and universal powers. #RandolphHarris 17 of 19

The early rationalist as a factor operating in memory, perception and ideas; the postromantic as organic vitality expressed in will, imagination, and creation; dissociated Western people as a realm of violence threatening his stability; physical scientists as the expression of physiological processes in the brain which are not yet understood; monistic thinkers as the prime mover and source of all order and novelty in through and actions. Perhaps a melee of inhibited memories and desires the main influence of which is damaging; or a prerational realm of instincts, myths, and symbols often making for stability. It is natural to seek a common principle underlying these partial truths, but we do not possess the unified language in which to express it scientifically. There is something going on, and it is being allowed to happen. The formulation of a valid theory of the integrated human mind and of its various pathologies would imply the possibility of a transformation in the man and his unconscious toward a more harmonious condition accompanied by the development of a social order that does not bring with it inescapable neurosis. #RandolphHarris 18 of 19

This may seem a distant hope, however, recent advances in biology and medicine have opened new vistas of improvement, and no survey of the idea of the unconscious would be complete without a glance into this possible future for theory and practice, for therein may life the deepest reason for the fascination which the idea has for so wide a public. This sketch of the idea of the unconscious has neglected its recent application to religion, art, the history of science, philosophy, literature (reality of experience lies in the unconscious), ethics and justice. In all these realms, the main effect has been to broaden, deepen, and loosen traditional conceptions. However, the unification of scientific principles, so badly needed today, still lies ahead. In this an improved conception of the unconscious must play a crucial role.  Start moving forward and enlarge your vision. What God has in store for you will allow grow, move forward, increase, and constantly break the barriers of the past and advance in God’s Kingdom. #RandolphHarris 19 of 19

All who Rage Against you Will Surely be Ashamed and Disgraced

The most attractive solution to the problems of human existence, to the tragic sense of is, is the hope for eternal life expressed in human’s perennial hunger for immortality. God said, “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him or her who curses you; and in you all the families of the Earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12.1-3). This hunger has two dimensions—it refers either to the nondestruction of the soul with the Universe or the totality of being. The destruction of a human’s consciousness is an a priori impossibility: We cannot even conceive of the nonexistence of consciousness, since that conception is itself an act of consciousness. Human is nothing if he or she is not everything—to exist is yearning to reach all space, all time, all being. To be a man or a woman is to seek to become God. Unless human is God, he is not even human: Either all or nothing. We ask not only if we can ever know the truth of statements about the past, or whether we can ever be sure of the existence of minds other than our own.  #RandolphHarris 1 of 14

The existence of God is the supreme cause. Creatures are infinite, God is infinite. Seeing God as the ultimate cause of all perfections; and recognizing the transcendence of those perfections in God; God created the Universe in a hierarchical order ranging from the first luminous intelligence through lesser intelligences, human, animals, elements, and material principles. In all creatures there is a real distinction between essence and existence, and in all material substances there is only one substantial form. Created intellectual substances, seeing the eternal Ideas in God, illuminate lesser intelligences to know truth. The human mind has four immediately evident (per se nota) rules by which it can investigate theology, the science of the faith: God is the supreme Truth and cause of all truth; primary Truth can neither deceive nor be deceived, therefore his Word should be believed; we should believe everything clearly revealed by God through his spokesmen; Scripture is true precisely because God gave it to us in that way. Unlike these rules, the articles of faith are not immediately evident, but in the light of faith and these rules, the articles of faith become objects of scientific study. #RandolphHarris 2 of 14

Beauty is characteristically pleasurable. Ethical attitudes vary much more, from society to society and even between individuals, than do our beliefs about the external World or other people’s feelings. The patent fact of ethical disagreement forces us to re-examine the bases of our moral beliefs. Furthermore, the disagreements we encounter concerning moral issues often seem to involve deep matters of principle which leave no common ground between the disputants. This is sometimes referred to as the problem of disagreement about ultimate moral principles. It is this problem—whether ultimate moral principles are susceptible of rational justification—which will be examined. Just as the field of ethics comprises responsible human actions of which some are evil and blameworthy, so, among perceptual objects, there are some which have negative aesthetic value. This does not mean that such objects simply lack the characteristics by virtue of which things are beautiful; it means, rather, that they possess recognizable properties that are opposites of those found in beautiful objects. #RandolphHarris 3 of 14

Existence is a mystery, absurdity is a mystery, and anguish is a mystery. Love is the basic force of human existence. It encompasses all conative relations of humans to being and enables them to overcome anguish of their contingency by giving them the rich feeling of their own existence. The relation between beauty and ugliness has commonly been conceived in hedonistic terms, that is, whereas a beautiful object is a source of pleasure in the spectator, an ugly object arouses its opposite, pain. The proper function of art and life is to create pleasure. Yet, it is clear that there is seeming conflict between this view of the World and the empirical fact that works of art often represent objects and events that are ugly. What type of visual art depicts things which in themselves we view with pain. The painting, picture, or news itself arouses pleasure in some, a phenomenon that is explained by our intellectual interest in recognizing the object. Comedy, moreover, imitates people who are ignorable and therefore ludicrous; and though this is a kind of ugliness, the comedy is, for unspecified reasons, kept from being painful. #RandolphHarris 4 of 14

I supposed it is because the protagonist is a good individual who suffers adversity, tragedy is not merely shocking when we live in a place where stateworkers are forced to take furloughs and Governor Jerry Brown eliminates affordable housing, but raises taxes and spends $30,000,000.00 taxpayer dollars to defend illegal immigrants. This initiates the controversy over the paradox of tragedy that has survived to this present day. Taxation without representation is a situation in which a government, in this case Jerry Brown (governor of California), imposes taxes on a particular group of its citizens, despite the citizens not consenting nor having an actual representative deliver their views when the taxation decision is made. Many people are having a hard time finding jobs and housing because it is too expensive and the City of Sacramento decided it was better to build a $600,000,000.00 sport complex and tear down the mall that was under 20 years old, without voter approval and Jerry Brown cut funding for Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, which provided houses and apartments that were based on one’s income. #RandolphHarris 5 of 14

Cov7DrkUAAEBQHLHumans are painfully aware of the contingency. That they exist or that one is the particular person he or she happens to be is neither necessary nor permanent. By usurping taxpayer funds, and redistributing them to illegal immigrants, we are displacing many Americans who are born in the United States and lived here all of their lives, but no one is protesting for their rights! This is the same type of situation that trigged the original 13 American colonies to revolt against the British Empire during the Seven Years’ was (1756-1763). Many people believe that the way their tax money is being used is illegal because they have no Parliamentary representation and were denied the right to a trial by jury about the use of their money. How can we support undocumented citizens and build unnecessary bridges when we cannot even afford to take care of our own people nor maintain our infrastructure? As has been shown, this paradox is not the sole instance of the problem of ugliness, but it states the problem most acutely, both because the tragedy is sorrowful or pathetic. Why do we esteem narratives of evil and suffering? #RandolphHarris 6 of 14

Why are we not demanding more affordable housing? The whole ugliness has transcended and instead of protesting about our own needs, everyone is attacking the President about people who have absolutely no right to be here. The tragic melting plot in America has been painful to watch, and therefore ugly.  Simply because democrats and the people they have illegally voting for them and causing chaos in America and stealing American tax money wish to hold that ugliness does not exist, and since their thesis runs counter to ordinary belief, they are constrained to justify it. The unreality of the ugliness is enjoined by the media because they fear American will go back to being a lawful and righteous country and the reporters will no longer be able to run amuck and produce lies and wild facts for entertainment. And 50 percent of the people who regularly watch the news say it is too much and they cannot stand it anymore, so perhaps they need to turn the TV off and let the news ratings fall. So, they can fire the pundants and disrupters. #RandolphHarris 7 of 14

Stated theologically, the World and everything in it has been created by an infinitely good God, as an expression of his goodness; stated metaphysically, existence is not neutral with respect to value and disvalue, but is rather an embodiment, through and through, of beneficial value. In such a World view, the apparent presence of evil of any kind poses a problem, and I consider sin and blindness just such problems. However, this aesthetic disvalue is a particular issue for me because my conception of reality is conspicuously aesthetic. Aesthetic aspects of life are beautiful and harmonious. All things are images of the ideas of form and harmony that exist in the mind of God, and together they make up an internally ordered unity. Objects are beautiful by virtue of their form, but if there is so, then ugliness does not exist, since sheer formlessness cannot exist. The opposite of beauty is not anything real, but mere the absence or privation of optimistic value. There is a degrees of value characteristic of metaphysical optimism and idealism. An object may not have the form appropriate to things of its kind, but this lack constitutes a relative deficiency of beauty, not sheer ugliness. #RandolphHarris 8 of 14

Moreover, objects that lack a certain degree of aesthetic value must be seen not in isolation, but as parts of the Universe as a whole. Seeming ugliness sets off, and thereby enhances, the beauty of the World. Jerry Brown, Vivek Ranadive, and other dangerous animals, which are not in any clear way lacking in form, but are considered ugly because they are displeasing or offensive to the sight. They are unbeautiful—the mere negative absence of beauty—conforming to a belief that language and practices which could offend political sensibilities (as in matters of sex or race) should be eliminated—rather than the ugly. Ugliness itself is a species of beauty that is present whenever such concepts as evil and disaster enter into the aesthetic pleasure we gain from the total object. Sometimes we may also want to say people are bad because they express a deficiency or relatively slight degree of aesthetic goodness. The work of Governor Jerry Brown, the City of Sacramento and Vivek Ranadive is less than it promises; they are lacking in vitality, ethics, morals, and charm. The muddy orchestration or incoherent plot structure is, significantly, opposite to orchestral clarity or unity of plot. There is a total absence of compensating virtues. #RandolphHarris 9 of 14

Lying is wrong suggests that the fact that a statement is known to be false is a reason for not making it to someone. Adultery is wrong suggests that the fact that someone is married is a reason for his refraining from the sexual intercourse with any person who is not his spouse. And, again, one ought to be kind suggest that there are reasons for performing kind actions rather than unkind ones. Asserting a moral principle of this kind and denying the suggestion about reasons results in paradox. Saying the governor upholds the law, but then raises taxes and steals money from hard working legal citizens, to redistribute to unlawful immigrants constitutes a lie and fraud. The Bible states that sinners earn the death penalty (Romans 6.23). Forgiveness of those sins requires blood to be shed to satisfy that penalty (Hebrews 9.22). Christ’s sacrifice of himself made is possible to take away the sin of the World (John 1.29). Because he is God, and human beings were created through him (Colossians 1.16), his life is worth immeasurably more than all other human lives throughout history. This, Christ’s sacrifice was more than sufficient as total payment for the death penalty we have earned because of sin. #RandolphHarris 10 of 14

To assuage their anguish, humans must feel in their existence, even of one is lead to suffering. One must learn to experience their uniqueness by expanding the range and the self-consciousness of their perceptions of the World. The central temporal dimension of human existence is the future, which leads to a desire for immortality and to a concern with death. This focus on the future is expressed as a means of both honors and hope and the means of eternal waiting. The structure of the future expresses both human’s determination to continue to live and their permanent dissatisfaction and despair concerning existence. Goals are self-created and are permanent commitments. This covenant with God guarantees a permanent right to the land. It is unconditional, as seen in the statements “God will,” without corresponding obligations. This covenant promises the ultimate return to the land in repentance and faith in circumstances will God will prosper them. This covenant will be fulfilled in the Millennium. Convent theology teaches that God initially made a covenant of works with Adam, promising eternal life for obedience and death for disobedience. Christ is the ultimate mediator of God’s covenant of grace. #RandolphHarris 11 of 14

Truth is subjective, it exists only as it is manifested in authentic belief. Belief, in turn, is an expression of human’s total being and consequently is realized in action. Objective truth is, strictly speaking, a meaningless conception. Through its identity with belief and actions, truth is ultimately an act of will. It is a will to create; and the will as creator wants and loves at the same time. Because of this persona and volitional factor in truth, the opposite of truth is not error but the lie. This subjective view of truth gives a distinct idealistic, even mystical cast to this thought. All knowledge about human and the World is subjective in the sense that it begins with first-person experience. To think of truth as transcending first-person experiences is, strictly speaking, a contradiction, because the very program of transcending first-person experience is a first-person project and concept and a construction. There is, however, another kind of truth, illustrated by mathematics, which is the function of reason alone, whereas true belief is a function of human’s whole being. Reality is a state of permanent flux, so that no two experiences are ever the same. #RandolphHarris 12 of 14

There are two metaphysical alternatives. Reality may be a vast sea of consciousness with my subjectivity at the center. There is no easy way to distinguish this consciousness from a mere dream. Its sole foundation is the fact that I experience it and that I will it to be real. The other view is that the focus of our being may be outside ourselves. We may identify ourselves with the realities of other people, cars, houses, trees, flowers, and mountains. This care and watchfulness over our own actions must be seconded by frequent and serious reflections upon them, not only that we may obtain the divine mercy and pardon for our sins, by an humble and sorrowful acknowledgment of them; but also that we may re-enforce and strengthen out resolutions, and learn to decline or resist the temptations by which we have been formerly foiled. It is an advice worthy of a Christian, though it did first drop from a heathen pen, that before we betake ourselves to rest, we renew and examine all the passages of the day, that we may have the comfort of what we have done aright, and my redress what we find to have done amiss, and make the shipwrecks of one day be as marks to direct our course in another. #RandolphHarris 13 of 14

This may be called the very art of virtuous living, and would contribute wonderfully to advance our reformation, and preserve our innocence. However what we must nor forget to implore the divine assistance, especially against those sins that do most easily beset us: and through it be supposed that our hearts are not yet moulded into that spiritual frame which should render our devotions acceptable; yet, methinks, such considerations as have been proposed to deter us from sin, may also stir us up to some natural seriousness, and make our prayers against it as earnest, at least, as they are wont to be against other calamities: and I doubt not but God, who hear the cry of the ravens, will have some regard even to such petitions as proceed from those natural passions which himself hath implanted in us. Besides, that those prayers against sin, will be powerful engagements on ourselves to excite us to watchfulness and care; and common ingenuity will make us ashamed to relapse into those faults which we have lately bewailed before God, and against which we have begged his assistance. All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. #RandolphHarris 14 of 14

The Authority of Truth

You may be shocked by these words coming from me. However, on this pilgrimage, what I have seen, and experiences, has forced me to rearrange much of my thought-patterns previously held, and to toss aside some of my previous conclusions. This was not too difficult for me. Despite my beliefs, I have always been a man who tried to face facts, and to accept the reality of life as new experience and new knowledge unfold it. I have always kept an open mind, which is necessary to the flexibility that must go hand in hand with every form of intelligent search for truth. However, it will not suffice to consider these things once again, nor to form some resolutions of abandoning our sins, unless we maintain a constant guard, and be continually watching against them. Sometimes the mind is awakened to see the dismal consequences of a vicious life, and straight we are resolved to reform; but alas! It presently falls asleep, and we lose that prospect which we had of things, and then temptations take the advantage; they solicit and importune us continually, and so do frequently engage our consent before we are aware. #RandolphHarris 1 of 5

It is the folly and ruin of most people to live at adventure, and take part in everything that comes in their way, seldom considering what they are about to say or do. If we would have our resolutions take effect, we must take heed unto our ways, and set a watch before the door of our lips, and examine the motions that arise in our hearts, and cause them to tell us whence they come, and wither they go; whether it be pride or passion, or any corrupt and vicious humour, that prompt us to any design, and whether God will be offended or anybody harmed by it. And if we have no time for long reasoning, let us at least turn our eyes toward God, and place ourselves in his presence, to ask his leave and approbation for what we do. Let us consider ourselves under the all-seeing eye of that divine Majesty, as in the midst of an infinite globe of light, which compasses us about both behind and before, and pierce to the innermost corners of the soul. The sense and remembrance of the divine presence is the most ready and effectual means, both to discover what is unlawful, and to restrain us from it. #RandolphHarris 2 of 5

There are some things a person could make a shift to palliate or defend, and yet he dares not look Almighty God in the face, and adventure upon them. If we look unto him we shall be lightened; if we set him always before us, he will guide us by his eye, and instruct us in the way wherein we ought to walk. I am accountable to God for the way I control my body under his authority. Every Christian can have his or her body under absolute control for God. What I must decide is whether or not I will agree with my Lord and Master that my body will indeed be his temple. Once I agree, all the rules, regulations, and requirements of the law concerning the body are summed up for me in this revealed truth—my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. It is the will of God that human beings should get into a right-standing relationship with him, and his covenants are designed for this purpose. When I have really transacted business with God on the basis of his covenant, there is no sense of personal achievement—no human ingredient at all. #RandolphHarris 3 of 5

Instead, there is a complete overwhelming sense of being brought into union with God, and my life is transformed. Our job is to get the fact and be sober in doing that. Acceptance is the great healer of strife, conflict, and upset. It also corrects major imbalances of perception and precludes the dominance of negative feelings. Everything serves a purpose. Humility means that we will not understand all events or occurrences. The foundation of Christianity is repentance. Strictly speaking, a person cannot repent when one chooses—repentance is a gift of God. No matter what or what we are, God restores us to right standing with himself. Put God in remembrance of his promises. Keep not silent. Give him no rest till it comes to pass. When God hears his promises, he dispatches angels with the answers. He sets the miracle into motion. God will change things in your favor. It may not happen overnight, but just stay in faith and keep reminding God what he promises you day in and day out. #RandolphHarris 4 of 5

Sometimes we use prayers as an excuse to complain to God about people not treating them right. Or about the price of rent, food, and gas being too high, and that they cannot take it anymore. Instead of complaining, remind God of his promises. Do not keep silent and eventually you will see what God said come true. As consciousness evolves to higher levels, the World changes in appearance and behavior. Everything is viewed whole, perfect, and complete. Father in Heaven, I may not see how it can happen, but I know you have an extraordinary blessing coming my way. Thank you that you make the rivers in the desert and streams in barren places. I am expecting a sudden, rapid, and widespread increase of blessings in my life. I believe that I will see surpassing greatness of you favor and blessings that will advance me years ahead. My hopes and dreams are in your hands and I trust you. Mystery and disappointment are not absolutely indispensable to the growth of love, but they are, very often powerful auxiliaries. #RandolphHarris 5 of 5

See that My Grave is Kept Clean

m,Each person is fulfilling their own destiny. Did you ever hear that coffin’ sound? Means the poor boy is underground. Did you ever hear them church bells tone, means another poor boy is gone? Enlightenment happens in the present moment and is outside time, history, or geography which are therefore irrelevant. Living powers, ourselves, and our bodily instruments are activated by inspiration, dedication, and decisions of consciousness to the spiritual vision. A spiritual attitude leads one to be friendly, kind, and well-meaning to all life. There is an increasing awareness that life is filtered through our perception. Even though there is no evidence at present for spontaneous generation, one who believes in the continuity of nature must proceed with the vision of the mind. Our organized bodies are no more a part of ourselves than any other matter around us. One can form a mental picture of the self apart from the organism and suggests that consciousness is very much dependent on the state of the brain. My great comfort in all my afflictions is that it is in the power of no enemy to rob me of my conscience, nor will I ever be so much my own enemy to destroy it. #RandolphHarris 1 of 10

By a necessity engendered and justified by science I cross the boundary of the experimental evidence, and discern in that Matter which we, in our ignorance of its latent powers, and notwithstanding our professed reverence for its Creator, have hitherto covered with opprobrium, the promise and potency of all terrestrial life. Feeling has origins as ancient and as worthy as the origins of intelligence and religious sentiment, which is mischievous if permitted to intrude on the region of objective knowledge, over which it holds no command dignifies and completes humans in the region of poetry and emotion. Science, which must be free to investigate cosmological questions, is but one of the human activities leading to the whole beings. I prefer commotion before stagnation and not to purchase intellectual death. Life without war is impossible in the natural or the supernatural realm. It is a fact that there is a continuing struggle in the physical, mental, moral, and spiritual areas of life. It is easier to stop reacting to people internally as well as externally by becoming familiar with the nature of consciousness. #RandolphHarris 2 of 10

Human life is very difficult, even in the best of circumstances. Frustrations, delays, lapses of memory, impulses, and stresses of all shapes and forms beset any individual. Demands often exceed capabilities and life is pressured by time requirements. It will be noticed that everyone’s ego is about the same as that of everyone else. Most humans believe that love is something that you get, that it is an emotion, that it has to be deserved, and that the more they give away, the less they will have. The opposite is the truth. Lovingness is an attitude that transforms one’s experience of the World. We become grateful for what we have instead of prideful. We express our lovingness when we acknowledge others and their contributions to life and to our convenience. Love is not an emotion but a way of being and relating to the World. Anything which is not spiritual downfall. I must learn to fight against and overcome the things that come against me, and in that way produce the balance of holiness. Then it becomes a delight to meet opposition. #RandolphHarris 3 of 10

Holiness is the balance between my nature and the law of God as expressed in Jesus Christ. If your faith is in experiences, anything that happens is likely to upset that faith. People fall into the trap of getting even or making constant remarks. It is horrible to live in a country where your father and grandfather served in the war and died and you are disabled because of your father’s serve (agent orange) and your own government does not protect your rights, allows you be assaulted, stalked, robbed, kidnapped and tortured, but then sets aside $30,000,000.00 tax payer dollars to defend illegal immigrants who do not even have a right to be in America. It is awful when your own mother and sisters work with your enemies to take you down for reasons you are unaware of. And it is terrible when you are stuck in a horrible situation for over a decade and barely surviving and go to bed every night praying for God to save you, while people in power pretend not to know what it going on. President Trump is right about the media, they produce fake news and get away with whatever they want. #RandolphHarris 4 of 10

It is very interesting that judges will not allow President Trump to secure our country, but they allowed for the new King’s arena to be built in Sacramento, California which cost nearly $600,000,000.00, and is mostly paid for by tax payer, who had no ability to vote in the process. Also, judges allowed Governor Jerry Brown to implement the bag ban, and now we pay $.10 for new thicker plastic bags, which used to be included in the price of good. Also, Jerry Brown raised registration taxes and gas fees, and no judge blocked him from doing that, as many of us are struggling to pay rent, buy food, and keep the lights on. Why is it that tax payer money can be blown without any fight from a judge, but when the President tried to protect the country, these judges stand up and refuse to allow him to enforce laws to protect us? Our money is being wasted and our right being taken away to help criminals and it is not fair! They create enemies and animosities. These preclude a peaceful life. Nobody needs enemies. They can retaliate in ways unseen and so bring on unfortunate consequences. #RandolphHarris 5 of 10

But now, amongst those things which we discover sinful, there will be some unto which, through the disposition of our nature, or long custom, or the endearments of pleasure, we are so much wedded, that it will be like cutting off the right hand, or pulling out the right eye to abandon them. However, must we therefore sit down and wait till all difficulties be over, and every temptation be gone? This were to imitate the fool in the poet, who stood by the whole day at the river-side till all the water should run by. We must not indulge our inclinations, as we do little children, till they grow weary of the thing they are unwilling to let go. We must not continue our sinful practices of using taxpayer money to defend criminals who are not supposed to be in America, in hopes that the divine grace will one day overpower our spirits, and make us hate them for their own deformity. Let us suppose that we are utterly destitute of any supernatural principle, and want that taste by which we should discern and abhor perverse things; yet sure we are capable of some considerations which may be of force to persuade us to this reformation of our lives and country. #RandolphHarris 6 of 10

If the inward deformity and heinous nature of sin cannot affect us, at least we make be frightened by those dreadful consequences that attend it: that same selfish principle which pushes us forward unto the pursuit of sinful pleasures, will make us loath to buy them at the rate of everlasting misery. Thus, we may encounter self-love with its own weapons, and employ one natural inclination for repressing the exorbitances of another. Let us therefore accustom ourselves to consider seriously what a thing it must needs be to irritate and offend that infinite Being on whom we hand and depend every moment, who needs but to withdraw his mercies to make us miserable, or his assistance to make us nothing. Let us frequently remember the shortness and uncertainty of our loves, and how that, after we have taken a few more turns in the World, and conversed a little longer amongst humans, we must all go down unto the dark and silent grave, and carry nothing along with us but anguish and regret for all out sinful enjoyments like cheap labor and discounted maids. #RandolphHarris 7 of 10

And then then think what horror must needs seize the guilty soul, to find itself naked and all alone before the severe and impartial Judge of the World, to render an exact account, not only of its more important and considerable transactions, but of every word that the tongue has uttered, and the swiftest and most secret though that ever passed through the mind. It is a travesty that we can so quickly remover God from our government without protest, but riot and protest to allow illegal immigrants to enter this country and use tax payer money to hire lawyers for them, when families are being put out on the streets, veterans dying because they cannot get medical care and women being beaten and forced to stay in violent marriages because they were groomed from their teenage years by some older men and have no skills or education other than home economics and cannot make a living on minimum wage. Let us sometimes represent unto ourselves the terrors of that dreadful day, when the foundation of the Earth shall be shaken, and the Heavens shall pass away with great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, and the present frame of nature be dissolved. #RandolphHarris 8 of 10

One day our eyes see the Blessed Jesus Christ, (who came once into the World in all humility to visit us, to purchase pardon for us, and beseech us to accept of it,) now appearing in the majesty of his glory, and descending from the Heaven in a flaming fire, to take vengeance on those that have despised his mercy, and persisted in rebellion against him. When all the hidden things of darkness shall be brought to light, and the counsel of the heart shall be made manifest; when those secret impurities and subtle frauds whereof the World did never suspect us, shall be exposed and laid open to public view, and many thousand actions which we never dreamed to be sinful, or else had altogether forgotten, shall be charged home upon our consciences, with such evident convictions of guilt, that we shall neither be able to deny nor excuse them. There shall all the angles in Heaven, and all the saints that every lived on the Earth, approve of that dreadful sentence which shall be passed on wicked humans; and those things that are most terrible and grievous in the World, and yet all do not suffice to convey into our minds any full apprehensions of them. #RandolphHarris 9 of 10

When we have joined together the importance of all these expressions, and added unto them whatever our fancy can conceive of misery and torment, we must still remember, that all this comes infinitely short of the truth and reality of the thing. It is true, this is a sad and melancholy subject; there is anguish and horror in the consideration of a nation being overrun by criminals and illegal immigrants; and such thoughts as these may be very useful to fright us from the courses that would lead us there; how fond so ever we may be of sinful pleasures, the fear of Hell would make us abstain. Our most forward inclinations will startle and give back, when pressed with that question in the prophet, “Who amongst us can dwell with everlasting burnings?” To this very purpose it is that the terrors of another World are so frequently represented in holy write, and that such terms as are most proper to affect and influence a carnal mind: these fears can never suffice to make any person truly good; but certainly they may restrain us from much evil, and have often made way for more ingenious and kindly impressions. Well, my heart stopped beating and my hands turned cold. There is just one favor I ask, see that my grave is kept clean. #RandolphHarris 10 of 10

Eyesight to the Blind as the Years Go Passing By

The great secret of managing the mind of a human being is to find employment for it. God is in all things, and with the idea of God’s transcendence, the idea is that God is above all things. God is not the unity of all things, but rather that which makes all things into a unity; as such, God is not an abstraction, but a real individual, unchangeable, eternal, and independent. The nature of God is manifest in our consciousness. God, or the One, stands in the same relation to the manifold produced by it as does our mind to its thoughts, feeling, and decisions. Our consciousness pictures the Absolute One. To be realistic, one has to take into account that to choose to devote one’s life to reaching enlightenment in our society is uncommon and relatively rare. The goal of society in general is to succeed in the World, whereas the goal of enlightenment is to transcend beyond it. In this psychology, humans are indeed considered a composite of our inner and outer sense. Moral awareness is basic to the human constitution, and it is only during the course of historical development that morality and religion become connected and interdependent. The great aim is to understand Christian ethics as the supreme manifestation. #RandolphHarris 1 of 8

There are chords in the human mind. What we study are the manifestations of a grown and growing morality in religious, social, and political consciousness. The point of reference for an understanding of the moral person is no longer the will as such, but morality as realizing itself through persons in history. Discovering rational truth is a basis of a happy life. Only true knowledge can tame the passions, which are the source of error and therefore of unhappiness. Knowledge comes only from the senses, but purely sensible knowledge called imagination is passive, approximate, and relative, and must be governed by rigid precepts. Reason abstracts from imagination, producing universal and strict concepts. The intellect considers things as they exists in themselves; that is, it penetrates their real nature and connects in one whole the real thing and its sensible and abstract representations. Reason operates by analysis, intellect by synthesis. The exceptional life becomes so by virtue of context and meaning whereby choice sets up a hierarchy of values which motivates all activities. The difference between the ordinary and the exceptional life is primarily one of context. To value love above gain is already such a major shift of attitude that transforms life. #RandolphHarris 2 of 8

Only intellectual knowledge can reach the truth and be communicated. Falsehood arises when intellect works like imagination. The criterion of truth is what can be conceived—that is, ideas insofar as they may be connected or not connected with one another. This criterion does not rest simply on an abstract rule to be applied in each case, but on the possibility of connecting ideas in a comprehensive system. The intellectual faculty is the source of logical truth. However, metaphysical truth comes from experience, and it is truth insofar as it has been deduced from experience by reasoning conforming to logical standards, and insofar as it is confirmed through evident experiments. Intellectual knowledge operated by elaborating simple concepts, or definitions; by deducing simple properties, or axioms, from them; and by connecting the definitions in all possible ways to produce theorems. That definition is real compliance with Heaven’s will and imitation of the ancients. It is a knowledge of causes that enables us to reproduce the object. To do so is for the people to follow the sovereign, and for the sovereign to follow Heaven. #RandolphHarris 3 of 8

It its highest stages, intellectual knowledge is knowledge of the natural World. Science is a whole, and should conform to the methodological ideal of mathematical clarity. Physics is the foundation of the other sciences. By demonstrating the rationality and necessity of all events, physics leads us to recognize divine providence. Human freedom arises from the command of God. Heaven is inherently good and benevolent, and so is the sovereign. His virtuous rule will be marked by order and harmony in the Universe. Heaven sends catastrophes (such as floods and fires, Earthquakes and mountain slides) and anomalies (such as comets, eclipses) to warn humans. When this goes unheeded and no changes are made, Heaven would frighten the people with prodigies. If people are still unawed, ruin and destruction will finally befall the empire. And, first, let us inform ourselves well what those sins are from which we ought to abstain. And here we must not take our measures from the maxims of the World, or the practices of those whom in charity we account good people. The phenomena of the World of nature, trapped in unprogressive cycles of birth and death. The infinite variability and indeed the perfectibility of humankind. #RandolphHarris 4 of 8

Most people have very light apprehensions of these things, and are not sensible of any fault, unless it be gross and flagitious, and scarce reckon any so great as that which they call preciseness: and those who are more serious, do many times allow themselves too great latitude and freedom. In the past and in the future, as knowledge and experience accumulate human’s reason, passions and freedom permit one to escape from the repetitive cycles of external nature. Movement and change give rise to new relationships, and this all experience is instructive; even passion and error, calamity and evil providentially contribute to humankind’s advance. Indeed, the ambitions and the vices of humans and the barbarities of warfare, however, morally reprehensive, may often rescue humankind from stagnation or mediocrity. However, how much pride and vanity, and passion and honour; how much weakness, and folly, and sin, does every day show itself in many people’s converse and behaviour? It may be they are humbled for it, and striving against it, and are daily gaining some ground: but then the progress is so small, and their failings so many, that we have need to choose a more exact pattern. #RandolphHarris 5 of 8

Pain of the mind is relieved by an abstraction of solid thought. The vital medium of progress is the process of human communication. Ideas deriving from sensations are developed through the use of signs, pictures, and especially language, by which knowledge and experience are transmitted and augmented from generation to generation. Since above all it is the human of genius who can grasp the implications and make articulate the lessons of experience, it is society’s duty to encourage natural genius and to heed its advice. Moral circumstances, such as the cultivation of genius, are more important in determining the extent and nature of progress than are such physical circumstances as climate. Every one of us must answer for oneself, and the practices of others will never warrant and secure us. It is the highest folly to regulate our actions by any other standard than that by which we must be judged. Progress is uneven through human’s history. Moreover, it varies necessarily in the different areas and aspects of human activity, such as science, technology, morality, and the arts. #RandolphHarris 6 of 8

Progress in the arts, for example, is always radically limited to nature of humans, since the goal of the arts is pleasure aloe, whereas speculative scientific progress has the anthropomorphic or supernatural, the abstract or speculative, and the empirical—mathematical. If ever we would cleanse our way, it must be by taking heed thereto according to the word of God; and that word which is quick and powerful. Many people are not aware of the forces of error and evil in the World, but the pat and in the happier future. The historical continuity so much stressed in the scriptures in fact ruled out any immediate, thorough renovations of humankind. The moral law does not consider our weaknesses as human beings. It simply demands that we be absolutely moral. The moral law never changes, either for the highest of society or for the weakest in the World. It is enduring and eternally the same. The moral law, ordained by God, does not make itself weak to the weak by excusing our shortcomings. It remains absolute for all time and eternity. The heart loves repose and the soul contemplation, but the mind needs action. #RandolphHarris 7 of 8

Christian perfection is not, and never can be, human perfection. Christian perfection is the perfection of a relationship with God that shows itself to be true even amid the seemingly unimportant aspects of human life. God’s purpose is not to perfect me to make me a trophy in His showcase; God is getting me to the place where I will be able to accomplish my dreams faster. So do not go around talking about how big your problems is, or how you will never make it. God’s gracious hands are on you. You have the favor factor, so do not keep dwelling on everything you lack, the mistakes you have made, or the greater talents of the competition. You are just looking in the natural, at what you can conceive right here and right now, but the power of God, the miracles he can produce go beyond your talent, education or ability, they are supernatural. Focus on what it looks like when God finally gets you that career, degree, acting job, or singing career you want. Can you describe what that looks like? How might God bring opportunities into your life that are greater than you can imagine? Believe in your heart that you are meant to live a life full of passion, purpose, magic and miracles. #RandolphHarris 8 of 8

People do Not Always Make themselves in Tragedies

There may be spiritual waste, loss of greatness, suffering, struggles, defeat, regeneration, explicable or inexplicable evil and catharsis. It may be misery never to be loved where all the sunshine and smiles must be equally rare. There is a price to pay for the mistakes you make, to discover what you do, it will always come back to you. I could not see it before, hiding behind closed doors, when you step outside yourself, and with the face of someone else. Breaking your fall from grace and killing this empty space, like the thorn in your side it puts the dent in your pride. No one believes you now, it caught up with you somehow and you wonder what your feeling, will it never be the same? In the moments of madness under your angry skies, you are not what you feel this is insanity. From the shadows of darken, the depths of your angel eyes, knowing nothing is real this is insanity. Tragedy is an imitation of an action that is serious, complete, and of a certain magnitude; it is a class of works of art, distinguishable from all other classes, whose members possess certain common properties by virtue of which they are tragic and, hence, that these properties are necessary and sufficient, essential, or defining properties of tragedy. #RandolphHarris 1 of 9

When two noble people encounter needs must the one have the worse, like as God will suffer at that time. Passage from happiness to misery, which is worthwhile, it is not an action that necessarily ends unhappily or in death. Action leas to plot, which is the arrangement of the incidents of the story. It induces pity and fear and the tragic effect, purgation; and it may contain (as the best tragedies do) the most powerful elements of emotional interest in tragedy, namely, reversal of the situation (peripeteia) and recognition (anagnorisis). Pity is aroused by unmerited misfortune, and fear by the misfortune of one like ourselves. There is usually a range from expulsion of harmful emotions to purification of them. Tragedy, unlike epic, tends to confine itself within or nearly within the period of 24 hours. Furthermore, good lots can indicate what may happen as well as what did happen. Indeed, tragic plots determine their chief characters. Characters should manifest good moral purpose, act appropriately, be true to life, and be consistent. #RandolphHarris 2 of 9

Of him that stood in great prosperity and is y-fallen out of high degree into misery, and ended wretchedly. In order that the tragedy may achieve the tragic effect, the tragic hero must also be highly renowned and prosperous, although not eminently good or just, and in fact must display some errors of judgment or fault (hamartia) that causes his misfortune; however, he need not have any vice or depravity as the cause of his downfall. Hence, the tragic plot cannot present a virtuous man brought from prosperity, nor a bad man proceeding from adversity to prosperity, not an utter villain being defeated, for none of these inspires pity or fear. These medieval tales function as exempla which, by pointing out human’s uncertainty in possible fall from prosperity, warn all people of the fickleness of fortune, and, by ascribing the case of the fall to vice, of divine justice in the World. Tragedy not only presents evil, but explains it. Destiny, it may be,–the most skillful of stage managers,–seldom chooses to arrange its scenes, and carry forward its drama, without securing the presence of at least one calm observer. #RandolphHarris 3 of 9

English Renaissance tragedy, including that of Shakespeare, incorporates this medieval view, but also constitutes a shift from the mere presentation of the fall of princes to the justification of evil in the retribution of God against those who bring evil upon themselves in their exercise of passion. Tragedies thus become exempla of moral philosophy, admonishing people to attend to the lessons of the consequences of evil in order to avoid ruin and misery. However, they identify with their personality which can be like an addiction. These personalities styles are influenced by the media, and each has its gain as well as a price to pay. They are cultural stereotypes embedded in our culture. And these personality types also reflect group identification. People become addicted to a style even to the point of death. People cherish their image and get lost in their identification with it. These influences are unconscious and often ridged self-definitions that resist change. Renaissance theorists of tragedy fused the medieval notion of tragedies as exempla with the Aristotelian doctrine of drama as lively imitation, the latter teaching us (delightfully) how not to live. #RandolphHarris 4 of 9

Some philosophers interpret the significance of the Fall of Man differently. Without acceptance of the World, there can be no tragedy, only surrender. In spite of their scorn for the World, these medieval tales of the Fall of illustrious princes transcend moralizing about human’s evil to become absorbed emotionally and sympathetically in the sufferings of these princes. Affirmation of the grandeur of man, not denigration of him, is central to these tales of woe, and it is this affirmation that also characterizes Elizabethan tragedy, as indeed it does all tragedy. Thus, neither medieval nor Renaissance tragedy is an explanation or justification of evil; it is an espousal of life in spite of evil. To create and preserve belief in the action on the stage, strict limitations of time and place must be preserved. The audience cannot be expected to retain belief in the action if it covers years or occurs in many different places. For example, Pretty Little Liars, has gone on for over seven seasons, which is too long to make the audience accept the belief that these girls did anything worthy of being tortured for so long and they become victims, in the minds of the audience, of sometime of demonic theater that has spin out of control. #RandolphHarris 5 of 9

Also, because Pretty Little Liars has gone on for so many years, and the girls are being targeted by the mayor and media, the audience has a hard time accepting the functions of that city as a reality and start to trace the terrorism of the girls back to its source, even though they are not investigators because the corruption becomes so obvious after a while. The action of a tragedy must coincide temporally with the performance itself and that it must occur in one place on an interpretation of Aristotle’s notions of probability and necessity as verisimilitude—that is, on the way things are likely to work in nature. The stress is laid on imitation of a serious action, which is conceived of as a representation of human actions during a particular crisis of duty or honor versus love, or of passion versus will or reason. The tragic hero is not so much renowned and prosperous as he or she is noble, in the quite literal sense of belonging to the nobility. The action is confined to the crisis; no complicated or double plots are tolerated, and no mixture of the serious and the comic is allowed. Nor can there be scenes of violence on the stage. #RandolphHarris 6 of 9

We respond to these dramas, as we do to all poetry, not with belief or disbelief (delusion) but with the suspension of disbelief that constitutes poetic faith. All dramatic tragedies share the basic elements of collision and reconciliation. Ancient dramatic tragedy, however, differs from modern tragedy in regard to the modes of conflict and resolution. Because character us subordinate to ethical forces in ancient dramatic tragedy, the conflict is always two ethical principles. The conflict is between what one consciously wants to do and what one unconsciously has done. Resolution, and with it triumphant vindication of the ethical absolutely, is achieved either by the downfall of the hero, as in Antigone; the harmonization of interests, as in Eumenides; or the reconciliation in the soul of the hero, as in Oedipus at Colonus. In modern dramatic tragedy, in which the ethical forces are played down or not present at all, or other forces are at work, and the subjectivity of character is paramount, the conflict centers in the hero himself or herself. Hamlet violates morality but because his noble nature present him from acting, and this, together with external circumstances brings about doom. #RandolphHarris 7 of 9

The tragic fact in the World that is represented by dramatic tragedy, and without which there could be no such art form, is the terrible side of life—the unspeakable pain, the wail of humanity, the triumph of evil, the scornful mastery of chance, and the irretrievable fall of the just and innocent. It is this tragic fact that hints at the nature of the World, the ceaseless and futile strife of the irrational will; it also hints at the only way to escape from the struggles, namely, by the complete renunciation of the will. Man, thus, can overcome the tragedy involved in volition not by a mastery of the dialectic of negation but by only total surrender of the will to live. Well, at least that is what the architects of the conspiracy would like you to believe, so they can escape any criminal or civil liabilities. Dramatic tragedy mirrors the tragic fact of life and at the same time projects the way out. This state demonstrates that the representation of great misfortune is alone essential to tragedy. This is a greatest dramatic tragedy because it depicts the tragic fact of life, as it threatens or is actually experienced by an individual, who is neither monstrous nor placed in extraordinary circumstances, leaves the subjects and other shuddering as we feel ourselves already in the midst of Hell. #RandolphHarris 8 of 9

Thus, dramatic tragedy is a ritualistic affirmation of life. It contains calamity, but it shows the greatest in the community as others help to overcome the intense awareness of pain and evil, which is clearly revealed. The five sources of unhappy choices show that such choices are not the result of an innately perverse will, but are due rather to the various contingencies, including nature evils or deficiencies, that influence the making of choices and decision. The tragedy of regeneration is one of spiritual renewal from birth to disintegration; it symbolizes the life cycle from birth to destruction that leads to re-creation, and it is centrally tragic. The balance is destroyed when evil is denied. Tragedy includes suffering and calamity, but these need not be created and sustained by human frailty or wickedness. Love, honor, and duty can also effect suffering and catastrophe. The point is to gain an active mastery over life’s pain, which is intelligible only if tragedy glorifies human virtues. You will become everything God has created you to be, and you will have everything God intended for you to have. When you have the boldness to ask God for big things, you will see the greatness of God’s power. #RandolphHarris 9 of 9
