He is wanting, learning, reaching out to be part of something, but he feels separate. Others are not attending to or connecting to him enough, so he wants to pull back. He is walking around half alive. I sense a light in him that was not safe to share with his family. “I want to start putting my attention on serenity. I want to surrender to God and show you my fragile self.” The Spirit of God testifies to and confirms the simple, but almost, security of the life that is hidden with Christ in God. We talk as if living a sanctified life were the most uncertain and insecure thing we could do. Yet it is the most secure thing possible, because it has Almighty God in and behind it. The most dangerous and unsure thing is to try to live without God. When you act in confident faith in what our Lord did on the Cross, a supernatural identification with His death takes place immediately. God completely and absolutely gave Himself to us. In our surrender, we must give ourselves to God in the same way He gave Himself for us—totally, unconditionally, and without reservation. On my way of life, God has enriched my spirit, developed my intelligence and ignited a beacon of hope. Thank you, my dear God. #RandolphHarris 1 of 6
The greatest natures have always been lovers of solitude. Shallow ones do not require it; they need often to be refilled. Thought I lost you, in the darkness, of a lonely night. Then I found you in my arms, and holding me so tight. When I am with you, and I kiss you, I can feel your heart. Why am I here? What is the purpose God has for my life? Do you not know that I am the one to keep you safe and warm? God’s nature is love. There is no lack or insufficiency in God that needs the creating of the World to remedy it. Love demands society and community, but the divine society of the Trinity is itself thought of as supplying this scope of love, from eternity. It is possible, therefore, to see the creation of the World as a wholly gratuitous exercise of love. The God in whom the Christians believes is the God who revealed himself through the specific events of Hebrew history and in the no less historical life, death, and resurrection of Christ. Thus, the conception of a mere timeless “something” beyond the World, upon which the World depends, the doctrine of creation asserts that the whole Universe is created and sustained by God, and the whole Universe is logically in order. #RandolphHarris 2 of 6
Since God created the World and time together, his creative and sustaining act must be said to fall outside the temporal dimension, and likewise his purposing and willing. Certainly, the words timeless, eternal purposing, nontemproal, willing will consent to lie together on the page. However, what do they mean? Even the most alluring analogues to eternal existence—the timeless moments of aesthetic-mystical experience, or extrapolation from experiences of a specious present—shed little or no light upon the concept of a timeless willing or purposing to create. Nor do they illuminate the conception of God as sustaining the World from moment to moment—the eternal and nontemporal supporting a World existing in time. Certainly, we can imagine our timeless moments as being progressively enriched, as coming to constitute a larger and larger part of our total experience. We could think of these as the first rungs of a ladder, as terms in a series, which we then extrapolate out of our experiences, and we might claim to locate at the remote and hidden terminus of that series the eternal mode of being proper to God. #RandolphHarris 3 of 6
However, we could not rely on such a scale and its extrapolations with any real confidence. The guiding human experiences (even imaginary ones) give us pathetically few clear terms of the series for us to be able to say with assurance that we see its principle of construction, and that we can extrapolate safely and boldly to the limit. To trust in these operations would be rather like using a weapon with a very short barrel to hit a very distant target. The recession of the galaxies, the expanding of the Universe, has seemed to some cosmologist also to imply a beginning, a primordial state of immense density, the center from which expansion and dispersion subsequently took place. And a new matter in the form of hydrogen atoms is created in quantity sufficient to maintain the cosmic status quo, despite the scattering and receding of galaxies. However, insofar, we can clearly and confidently point out cases of instability and incompleteness in nature, so far, we can also conceive appropriate this-Worldly, natural stabilizing and completings is basically God, a natural entity. #RandolphHarris 4 of 6
We step right out with recognition of God in some things; then self-consideration enters our lives and down we go. If you are truly recognizing your Lord, you have no business being concerned about how and where God engineers your circumstances. Let your actual circumstances be what they may, but keep recognizing Jesus Christ, maintaining complete reliance upon God. If creation is deprived of all these strands of meaning, it is left with scarcely any meaning at all. Worse than that, because of the place creation has had in theological explanation, it retains the tone and weightiness of an ultimate explanation concept. It stops further questioning. In cosmological theory, it is clearly inappropriate to suggest that explanation must end here. If explanations do end in science, they end only for the moment, or because of the present limits of experimentation and understanding—limits that science hopes to push back. You have been bearing it all, but you need to deliberately place it in God’s hands. #RandolphHarris 5 of 6
Commit to God whatever burden He has placed on you. Do not just cast it aside, but put it over onto God and place yourself there with it. You will see that your burden is then lightened by the sense of companionship and success. However, you should never try to separate yourself from your burden. No power on Earth or in Hell can conquer the Spirit of God living within the human spirit; it creates an inner invincibility. If your life is producing pain and suffering, instead of companionship and success, then ruthlessly kick out what you do not want. It is definitely a crime for a Christian to be weak in God’s strength. Time is duration independent of motion and it is possibly a vacuum based on a conception of space. Furthermore, the debate over creation ex nihilo is dismissed as futile since, in any event, all is derivative from God, who is the only necessary existent. God is light rays and the source of luminescence, one being inconceivable without the other, and are bound together by the unifying principle of the divine goodness. It is this goodness or perfection which characterizes the Divinity. #RandolpHarris 6 of 6
