ASOT809 All Virtues are Defective which are Not Tinctured with Charity

We are flying blind; the plane has no windows, and we cannot see the landscape, the Sun, or even the clouds during the journey with God. Such is the power of virtue over the heart, that even a long course of vice will not render us wholly invulnerable to its divine influence. As suspicion is the source of crimes, it is also the worst of crimes, attaching itself with equal mischief to the guilty and the innocent; it is the influence of evil that breeds suspicion, the noble spirit of charity that subdues it. They who always suspect will often be mistake and never be happy. Knowledge is sympathy and sympathy is love, and to learn it the Son of God became a man. True friendship is rare on Earth. It means identifying with someone in thought, heart, and spirit. The whole experience of life is designed to enable us to enter into this closet relationship with the Son of God. The Christian who is truly intimate with Christ will never draw attention to oneself, but will only show the evidence of a life where God is completely in control. The picture resulting from such a life is that of the strong, calm balance that our Lord gives to those who are intimate with Him. #RandolphHarris 1 of 8

Worship is giving God the best that He has given you. Take time to meditate before God and offer the blessing back to Him in a deliberate act of worship. God will never allow you to keep a spiritual blessing completely for yourself. It must be given back to Him so that He can make it a blessing to others. It is the peculiar vocation of a teacher to talk. What is wisdom itself, but table-talk? The best wisdom in this World. There are not three levels of spiritual life—worship, waiting, and work—it is God’s idea that the three should go together as one. They were always together in the life of our Lord and in perfect harmony. Religion is essentially any set of articles of faith, with the observances, feelings, and so on, tired thereto, that has the social function of motivating altruism in individuals and the personal function of giving the believer inner peace and assurance. According to this definition, belief in a God or gods is not essential to religion. God never tells us to give up things just for the sake of giving them up, but He tells us to give them up for the sake of the only thing worth having, namely, life with Himself. #RandolphHarris 2 of 8

It is a matter of loosening the bands that hold back our lives. This is a great system, and would you wish a great country to have a little system? If only people would not talk till they knew, the World would be a much nicer place. Those bands are loosened immediately by identification with the death of Jesus Christ. It is of no value to God to give Him your life for death. God wants you to be a living sacrifice. Do we believe that God can fortify and protect our thought processes far beyond where we can go? The cleansing from sin we experience will reach to the heights and depths of our spirit if we will walk in the light as God is in the light. It is only when we are protected by God with the miraculous sacredness of the Holy Spirit that our spirit, soul, and body can be preserved in pure uprightness until the coming of Jesus Christ. Therefore, may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless. The soul asleep in the arms of love—sorrow is divine. Sorrow is reigning on the throne of the Universe, and the crown of all crowns has been one of thorns. #RandolphHarris 3 of 8

In a mind wherein strong sympathies are at work, where there is no supreme sense of right to which the agitated nature can cling and steady itself to quiet endurance, one of the first results of sorrow is a desperate vague clutching after any deed that will change the actual condition. I saw Heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. The Second Coming of Christ is our hope and confidence that God is in control of all things and is faithful to His Scriptures and His promises. While we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. The Second Coming is also important because it will come at the time when the World is most in need of a righteous King. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron scepter (with great power, respect, and authority). #RandolphHarris 4 of 8

m,He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh, he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. His principal contentions are that art in the broadest sense is skilled activity; that fine or aesthetic art consists in the skilled activity; that fine or aesthetic art consists in the skilled objectification of feelings; that the fine artists judges the adequacy of the work one creates not by the degree to which it approximates to beauty, but by the faithfulness with which it reflects back to him the feeling to which he attempted to give objective expression; that in the aesthetic attitude one throws oneself open to the advent of feelings; and that judgement of aesthetic value are relative to the taste of the critic. Will facts of mental telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, and so on are interesting. If paranormal phenomena do occur, received theories about the mental and physical must be revised to account for them. It is a gratuitous assumption that any theory capable of taming the wild facts would have to postulate supernatural entities or supernatural specters. #RandolphHarris 5 of 8

It could well be as scientific as are current theories about hypnotism, which have more or less tamed the wild facts of mesmerism. When bare nothingness intimately touches itself as something; when what is radiantly clear meets its own confusions; what we is looking through our own eyes and it sees itself looking back—this is awakeness. When what is unconditionally loving meets the places in itself that have felt unloved, and the shame turns into an innocent embrace as our finite contractions experience healing. We discover that the very entity who imagined he or she needed to improve in order to find happiness now has the frame work to journey with God and the only one who understands us is God. If paranormal phenomena do occur, there would be important implications for philosophy because the ideal of autonomy for the individual human being shifts to an openness as relatedness with nothing divided from it, to be labeled as an individual. Our Solitude with God shows us the deep, hidden areas of our own character. Many things are shown to us when God gets us alone over them, and they become clear. #RandolphHarris 6 of 8

The scientific laws state the relations between symbols that derive their meanings from the theories of which they are a part. These laws are approximations and idealizations and do not state the relations between actual physical properties. The relations, not between pressures that may be felt and volumes that may be seen, but their ideal representatives in a complex theory of gases makes the same word pressure stand for different theories, and in its common-sense, everyday use it stands for a concept or concepts different again from all these. We are not here to work for God because we have chosen to do so, but because God has laid hold of us. Keep your soul steadfastly related to God, and remember that you are called not simply to convey your testimony but also to preach the gospel. Every Christian must testify to the truth of God. It is the eternal law of God. The way you pay is the way life will pay you back. This eternal law works from God’s throne down to us. #RandolphHarris 7 of 8

The symbols used in scientific laws are always too simple to represent completely the phenomena and their connection; hence, the laws must always be provisional. An observer looking at a spot of light on a scale may be merely observing this spot, or he may be doing this and interpreting it as the final step in measuring the resistance of a coil. A boy who knew nothing whatever about electrical theory could be given the task of recording the movements of the spot on the scale; a physicist who had not seen these movements but who knew the theory and was prepared to rely on the boy could interpret the records appropriately. It shows conclusively that something is wrong, but its tell us neither where to look for that something nor what we must reject or modify.  Sin is blatant mutiny against God, and either sin or God must die in my life.  Sin will kill the life of God in us. It is the only explanation why Jesus Christ came to Earth, and it is the explanation of the grief and sorrow of life. #RandolphHarris  8 of 8
