The original stimulus to the love of God is knowledge, not sexual love. The love of God is reduced to worship, sacrifice, prayer, and reverence. The union with God, although assisted to ascetic practices, is nevertheless the climax of cognition. Since knowledge occurs only between similar being, to know God is to be like him; since God is unique, one become absorbed into his being in order to know him. It is essential that God love his creatures as they love him, and, as previously mentioned, love seems to have been thought of as subject to volition. Love arose involuntarily at the sight of a beautiful body. A man’s erotic education consisted in a denial, after an analysis of nature of beauty, of the acts that usually follow such a sight. I do not overlook the sufferings of a man in love; indeed, I emphasize them. However, to suffer because of love appears to be analogous to the suffering of the martyrs—an abnegation of the self for a value that transcends egoism. This thought is powerful because it has a high rate of vibration. A thought is a thing and actually has an energy pattern. The more energy we give it, the more power it has to manifest physically. When I write, I am in a state of bliss, I feel like I am in a palace, surrounded by things I love and nothing, but harmony can reach me. This is by far better to spend hours sending out this vibration, instead of being angry. Ancient tradition of an omnipresent principle is more interested in the metaphysical status of this principle than in the details of human psychology. Can I be honest with you, remember all the nice things I used to say about you, I really meant them and I felt like if they did not draw you near that vibration would resonate with someone. One might lose oneself in order to find oneself, but in so doing, one finds what one really discovered is God. The impossibility of attaining complete satisfaction leads men of this tendency to idealize the perfectionist who seek a goal that he can never reach, for the ideal is precisely that which ought to be and never is. Love sometimes is an interpretation of an ever-sought and unrealizable ideal. Do you love me? Even if I had to die with you, I will not deny you. Our natural individuality, or our natural self, boldly speaks out and declares its feelings. However, the true love within our inner spiritual self can be discovered only by experiencing the hurt of this question of Christ. The first form of love is divided into the celestial and terrestrial. The celestial inspires the love of idea and is the soul of the intelligible World. The terrestrial presides over marriage and is the soul of the sensible World. Love as a daemon is identified with the souls of the individual human beings. As a passion it is the love of beauty in temperate men and the love of sexual pleasure in those who dwell exclusively in the material World of ugliness. All love, however, is the love of some degree of beauty. An experience that is intimately associated with our bodily life is thought of as the one escape from it. Thus, it is asserted that love is a single principle permeating all things, from the material through the spiritual, and this principle is the dynamic factor in cosmic change. There is no difference in essence between the attraction the elements have for one another and the forms of love that exist in human beings. The appraisal of the kinds of love is based on the objects of love and that wisdom is inherently more valuable than pleasure. Throw heart onto the cloud and let missing kiss the passionate horizon. Then wind brings blue to you and that is the thing I am eager for. When you look up at the blue sky and step into memory with white clouds—my darling, how much sweetness. Give my lover every morning, every leaf with morning dew and every evening, every beach with golden glow in my lingering missing.
