A well-lighted drive through the winding streets, during the day, made the highway trip easy. Guards were at intervals when we approached the mansion, along the way I made a sign, they took one look at the car, and we passed through, never even having to slow down. I was, all at once, thrilled, important, humble, and thankful. When we entered the mansion, it reminded me of the House of God, it seemed as ancient time itself. I was beyond astonished; my vocabulary cannot describe the architectural beauty. The columns supporting the structure were placed relatively close together, the was done for practical reasons, since if stone lintels, especially of marble, were required to pan too great a distance, they were likely to crack and eventually collapse. The Corinthian columns were work of art, but rarely used by Greeks themselves, but later became the standard order in Roman architecture. The geometrical order of the Greek temple suggests a conscious desire to control the natural World. So strong was this impulse that their architecture seems defiant in its belief that the intellect is superior to the irrational forces of nature. I could tell it had this impact on them. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 5
The mammoth terraces were as if it were literally the Roman Empire itself, wrapping around the temple and engulfing the landscape below. However, despite is enormous size, the temple seems to fit into the valley it occupies, as if in harmony with the landscape, not in opposition to it. As a temple to Fortune, or Fate, it seems to assert the inevitability of empire, the destiny of America to control and oversee the entire World. It is as if the America state is so large, so magnificent, it is nature. The crown on top of the temple was a dome. Conceived as a temple to celebrate all their gods, every interior dimension appears equal and proportionate, even as its scale overwhelms the viewer. The architectural inventions of the Romans provided the basis for building construction in the Western World for nearly 2,000 years. And at 55,000 square feet, with a cost (adjusted for inflation) of $152,111,022.85, the idealism, even the mysticism of the temple, with its evocation was built in response to the dark and dreary climate outside, the interior of the temple rises to incredible height, lit by windows that transform a dull day with warm and richly radiant light. The ethereal space, soaring upward, as if toward God, is realized. This certainly was a place that deserved the utmost respect, much like a church. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 5
I have never before seen sincere and true fellowship practiced by all colors together, irrespective of their ethnic background as I did in this temple. What I have seen in this temple, and experienced, has forced me to rearrange much of my thought-patterns previously held and toss aside some of my previous conclusions. Light and dark have traditionally had strong symbolic meaning in Western culture. In Heaven there is only pure light, but the fact we can experience color—which, according to the laws of optics promises us at least the hope of salvation. I have always kept an open mind, which is necessary to the flexibility that must be in close association with every form of intelligent search for the truth. Never have I been so highly honored. Never have I been made to feel more humble and unworthy. Who would believe the blessings that have been heaped upon me? Never would I have even thought of dreaming that I would ever be a recipient of such honors—honors that would be bestowed upon a king. Psychological research demonstrates that religious faith and supernatural thinking serves psychological functions. It increases people’s sense of control when they feel uncertain or stressed out. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 5
Religion also helps people find a sense of meaning in life, the feeling that one’s existence has purpose and value. People can derive meaning from life without religion, but psychological studies offers a Worldview that people have a destiny and we engage these magical Worlds and exercise the self-discipline taught by the Ten Commandments in the Bible. Higher levels of self-control are associated with lower levels of aggression, and when people are angry and feel the urge to hurt others, their level of self-control determines whether or not they act upon these urges. And although you may feel someone has wronged you, it is not your God given right to seek revenge on them because in doing so you are creating a vortex of negative energy around you that will cause bad things to happen in your life. One of the most important principals is to treat others as you want to be treated and enjoy this time today, for tomorrow is not promised. You may want to play games and feel that someone will always be around and that you have time to take care of your responsibilities at a later date, but that may not be the case. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 5
We are using these Worlds to probe basic questions about our own existence, our own fears, and desires—essential aspects of human sapience. Through storytelling, we explore our humanity and, among others things, our spiritual and psychological nature. Heroes and villains are largely defined by their treatment of others. Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most, that has made is possible for deviance to triumph. Even today, we see entire nations under the rule of dictators whose sense of morality seems almost deviant, when compared to our own. Another factor influencing decision-making—one that may be somewhat less intuitive—has to do with social connection, one’s sense of having beneficial social relationships with other beings. People faces with moral dilemmas are more like to make consequence-based choices if they are in the presence of, or reminded of, a friend or a loved one than if they are alone. Since I am already screwed, here is a message to you, my heart is wide open. I am just not getting through to the lover in you, yet I am still hoping. (www.thedeedle.com) #RyanPhillippe 5 of 5
