The Light had Dawned on His Souls

Star Trek: The Original Series

To be both generally blamed and generally liked evinces a peculiar construction of mortal. After 911, some people do not remember anyone they felt safe with. For them, engaging with horses, dogs, or cats may be much safer than dealing with human beings. This principle is currently being applied in many therapeutic settings to great effect, including senior housing facilities, residential treatment programs, and veterans’ rehabilitation. For many people, coming to a treatment center and being allowed to care for a pet is the first step to recovery, as it makes them feel more human to be trusted with the responsibility of being trusted to care for another living being. Growing a bind with a horse or another animal will help one feel safe enough to care for another human being. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 5

From the moment of our birth, our relationships are embodied in responsive faces, gestures, and touch. These are the foundations of attachment. Trauma results in a breakdown of attuned physical synchrony: When you enter the waiting room of a Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) clinic, you can immediately tell the patients from the staff by their frozen faces and collapsed (but simultaneously agitated) bodies. Unfortunately, many therapists ignore those physical communications and focus only on the words with which their patients communicate. To know intense joy without a strong bodily frame, one must have an enthusiastic soul. His soul is a great deal too large for his frame. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 5

We must learn to accommodate ourselves to the discovery that some of these cunningly fashioned instruments called human souls have only a very limited range of music, and will not vibrate in the least under a touch that fills others with tremulous rapture or quivering agony. As a strong boy struggles against fumes with the more violence when they begin to be stifling, a strong soul struggles against phantasies with all the more alarmed energy when they threaten to govern in the place of thought. There is a species of intuition—either a spiritual lie, or the subtle recognition of a fact—which comes to us in a reduced state of the corporeal system. Your soul was in a hurry, and made a rush for a body. There are patient spirits that have waited from eternity, and never found parents fit to be born of. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 5

vbnm,

The soul, as you conceive it, is not a spiritual conception, but some kind of organization—a ghost, in short, having function, but the Devil himself cannot define its structure. If individuality has no play, society does not advance; if individuality breaks out of all bounds, society perishes. We learn much about how to deal with authority figures in general from our interactions with parents, who are the first authority figures most of us encounter. Not all parents are alike. This is one of the main reasons people react differently to authority figures. One child has parents who treat him as a small adult, a member of the family who has his own independence and sense of self. Another child’s parents treat him like a doll or a piece of furniture, to be shunted about as it is convenient to do so. Another4 child has only one parent, and this, too, may affect his interaction with authority figures. These three children are likely to have different attitudes towards parents. #RyanPhillippe 4 of 5

I find children, up to the time they are spoiled and flattened out by the culture, nicer, better, more attractive human beings than their elders. The taming and transforming that they undergo seems to hurt rather than help It was not for nothing that a famous psychologist once defined adults as deteriorated children. As a child grown, he encounters other authority figures: teachers, clergymen, police, and so on. He may find that the way he has learned to relate to his parents serves him very well in dealing with others. Or perhaps the same techniques do not work at all. Nothing, to the noble heart, is so afflicting as the consciousness of having done injustice. Time flies. The best of all good things for this special day the Lord has blessed us with, and all the many more to come. Many happiness return! (www.thedeedle.com) #RyanPhillippe 5 of 5
