Arrogance will Produce Submission Across the Border

Let us not harass ourselves by stating possible evils, and then, to avoid them, fly to those which are certain. Some arrive at causes by noting coincidences; yet, now and then, coincidences are deceitful. Surely this is our God; we trusted him, and he saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation. When your judgments come upon the Earth, the people of the World learn righteousness. Though grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and regard not the majesty of the LORD. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame; let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them. It seems that we go from freezing outside to the furnace. God, you care, like the red charcoal fire, gives me endless warmth. How can I not thank you? You burn yourself and give out all heat, light and energy sparing no effort. God, you are beloved and respected like red candles. #RyanPhillippe 1 of 5

Crucial for understanding trauma, the frontal lobes are also the seat of empathy—our ability to feel into someone else. One of the truly sensational discoveries of modern neuroscience took place in 1994, when in a lucky accident a group of Italian scientist identified specialized cells in the cortex that came to be known as mirror neurons. The researchers had attached electrodes to individual neurons in a child’s premotor area, then set up a computer monitor precisely which neurons fired when the child picked up a He-Man toy or grasped his sippy cup. At one point an experimenter was putting burritos into a box when he looked up at the computer, and the child’s brain cells were firing at the exact location where the motor command neurons were located. However, the child was not eating nor moving. He was watching the researcher, and his brain was vicariously mirroring the researcher’s actions. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 5

There is nothing like a little journey together to make people understand each other. Numerous other experiments followed around the World, and it soon became clear that mirror neurons explained many previously unexplainable aspects of the minds, such as empathy, imitation, synchrony, and even the development of language. One writer compared mirror neurons to neural WiFi—we pick up not only another person’s movement but his emotional state and intentions as well. When people are in sync with each other, they tend to stand or sit similar ways, and their voices take on the same rhythms. However, our mirror neurons also make us vulnerable to others’ negativity so that we respond to their anger with fury or are dragged down by their depression. Trauma almost invariably involves not being seen, not being mirrored, and not being taken into account. Treatment needs to reactivate the capacity to safely mirror, and be mirrored, by others, but also to resist being hijacked by others’ negative emotions. #RyanPhillippe 3 of 5

cgvhbjnkm,

He that been bitten by a serpent is afraid of a rope. It is rare to meet with a man who has lived much in the World who has not persuaded himself that caution is always the result of wisdom. As anybody who has worked with brain-damaged people or taken care of demented parents has learned the hard way, well-functioning frontal lobes are crucial for harmonious relationships with fellow members of the human population. Realizing that other people can think and feel differently from us is huge developmental step for two- and three-year-olds. They learn to understand others’ motives, so they can adapt and stay safe in groups that have different perceptions, expectations, and values. Without flexible, active frontal lobes people become creatures of habit, and their relationships become superficial and routine. Invention and innovation, discovery and wonder—all are lacking. Trauma can have a major impact on function of the brain throughout life. The prefrontal cortex develops last, and also is affected by trauma exposure, including being unable to filter out irrelevant information. Throughout life it is vulnerable to go off-line in response to threat.  #RyanPhillippe 4 of 5

However, with the use of technology, programmers are finding new ways to deal with brain injuries and new methods for teaching students is being proposed. Some are suggesting the computer programming will replace current school curriculum. In the new system of education, the child is not presented with subject matter of any sort. Rather, whatever the child is to learn comes about by the child inventing it on the computer. For instance, a child would no longer learn grammar. The subject would be replaced by the programming of general structure, such as the structure of a poem, which is filled with words selected from a random list. The student insets various words into the general structure until an error-free poem is produced, that is, one in which each part of grammar is perfect. #RyanPhillippe 5 of 5
