Little Boy Blue II–Sanctuary Allows Passage from One Realm to Another

To be in the special place—the space of the Center—one comes to experience a fixed and focused orientation. In the midst of the disruptive, one discovers order. The entrance into the special castle constitutes the boundary line between inner and outer reality. It sets the limit that distinguishes the chaos of the passing from the orderliness of the permanent.  #RandolphHarris 1 of 4

Yet the entrance, also paradoxically, expresses the coincidence of opposites. It is the place where the World of pain and the World of healing meet. The unusual, bizarre, unknown, meaningless, threatening real of the transient begins to be inhabited and possessed. To dwell in one’s previously rejected experience is equivalent to founding a new World, to entering a new life.  #RandolphHarris 2 of 4

It is by virtue of the temple that the World is resanctified in every part. The special place reduces and eventually destroys the arbitrary distinction between the safety of the sanctuary and the threat of the World. The World once again reveals itself as cosmos, as ordered, as oriented, as sacred, as really real.  #RandolphHarris 3 of 4

With me, this special space assumed crucial significance. The need for power compensates for a lack of love. This is not inherently bad; however, it arises from a lack of clarity and obscures the openness of the shared field of awareness. The castle served to protect us from uncontrollable emotion. There I had to face what I feared, yet felt shielded from its consequence. The castle gave me a place to experience the pieces, to explore the parts, and to center myself.  #RandolphHarris 4 of 4
