Secrets and Lies—Ring the Bell for Landlady

Furnished rooms with running water, steam heat, and elevator! I had a long talk with some old lover’s ghost, who died before the God of love was born. You are going to think that I am crazy when I tell you this, but there is a ghost dressed in armor who walks around our house at night. And there are cold spots and objects that have moved from room to room of their own volition. When Ryan went to investigate the house, he almost immediately lost a prize pen. It was a rather expensive pen, distinguished by a bent clip and silver ornamentation—it could not be mistaken for another. Ryan Phillippe: I had hardly set it down on the koffee table in front of me before it disappeared. I had only been in the room a few seconds, my pen and notebook sitting there before me. Then when I went to pick up my pen, it was gone.  #RyanPhillippe 1 of 37

Of course we looked under the furniture thinking that it might have rolled off—but it had not. No one had left the room. No one had picked it up without my noticing. The pen simply was not there. Finally, we just gave up and went on with the investigation. A few minutes later, I found my pen in a rear bedroom of the house. How do you explain that one? One day, I was to examine a strange young man at his mother’s home. As he came towards me, I was attracted by a large stain on his trousers which by its peculiar stiff edges, I recognized as one produced by albumen. After a moment’s embarrassment, the young man excused this stain by remarking that he was hoarse and therefore drank a raw egg, and that some of the slippery white of the egg had probably fallen on his clothes. #RyanPhillippe 2 of 37

To confirm his statements, he showed the eggshell which could still be seen on a small plate in his room. The suspicious spot was thus explained in this harmless way; but as his mother left us alone, I thanked him for having so greatly facilitated the diagnosis for me, and without further procedure, I took as the topic of our discussion his confession that he was suffering from the effects of masturbation. Another time, I called on a woman as rich as she was miserly and foolish, who was in the habit of giving the physician the task of working his way through a heap of her complaints before he could reach the simple cause of her condition. As I entered, she was sitting at a small table engaged in arranging silver dollars in little piles: as she arose, she tumbled some of the pieces of money to the floor.  #RyanPhillippe 3 of 37

cvbnm,.

I helped her pick them up, but interrupted the recitation of her misery by remarking: “Has your good son-in-law been spending so much of your money again?” She bitterly denied this, only to relate a few moments later the lamentable story of the aggravation caused by her son-in-law’s extravagances. And she has not sent for me since.  It was ordained as a scourge upon the pride of human wisdom that the wisest of us all should outwit ourselves.  I cannot maintain that one always makes friends of those to whom he tells the meaning of the symptomatic actions. Dr. Hans Phillippe related the following:  #RyanPhillippe 4 of 37

vhbjnm,.

I happened to be present when an antiquated couple related to me partook of their supper. The lady had stomach trouble and was forced to follow a strict diet. A roast was out before the husband, and he requested his wife, who was not allowed to partake of this food, to give him the mustard. The wife opened the closet and took out a small bottle of stomach drops, and placed it on the table before her husband. Between the barrel-shaped mustard glass and the small drop bottle, there was naturally no similarity through which the mishandling could be explained; yet the wife only noticed the mistake after her husband laughingly called her attention to it. The sense of this symptomatic actions requires no explanation.  #RyanPhillippe 5 of 37

I took a pill in Studio 54 to show Myers I was cool, and when I finally got sober, felt ten years older, but fuck it, it was something to do. I am living out in LA, I drive sports cars just to prove I am a real big baller because I made over one hundred million dollars, and I save it all. However, you do not want to be high like me, never really knowing why like me. You do not ever want to step off that roller coaster and be all alone. You do not want to ride the bus like this, you do not want to be stuck up on that station singing that same old song. For an excellent example of this kind which was very skillfully utilized by the observer, I am indebted to Dr. Bernh. Dattner:  #RyanPhillippe 6 of 37

When going to the art museums with Ryan, it feels like we are on the same level, he may know more about art than I do, but I have somethings that I can share and also learn from the things he tells me. Sometimes he likes to be catered to, he just wants someone to be quite and listen to him. He really has something to offer, feeling of responsiveness and I see him coming along on this journey with a new hope of love from me. We have agreed to take a professional leadership program together, it is much easier being in love with somebody you are not married to, because you do not have to turn his undershirts back the right way.  #RyanPhillippe 7 of 37

I dined in a restaurant with my colleague H., a doctor of philosophy. He spoke about the injustice done to the probationary students, and added that even before he finished his studies, he was placed as a secretary to the ambassador, or rather the Minister plenipotentiary to California. However, he added, ‘the minister was afterwards transferred, and I did not make any effort to meet the newly appointed.’ While uttering the last sentence, he was lifting a piece of pie to his mouth, but he let it drop as if out of awkwardness. I immediately grasped the hidden sense of this symptomatic action, and remarked to my colleague, who was unacquainted with psychoanalysis, ‘You really allowed a very choice morsel to slip from you.’ #RyanPhillippe 8 of 37

o-MCDONALDS-GAY-DATE-facebook

He did not realize, however, that my words could equally refer to his symptomatic action, and he repeated the same words I uttered with a peculiarly agreeable and surprising vividness, as if I had actually taken the words from his mouth: ‘It was really a very choice morsel that I allowed to get away from me.’ He then followed this remark with a detailed description of this clumsiness which cost him this very remunerative position. “The sense of this symbolic action becomes clearer if we remember that my colleague had scruples about telling me, almost a perfect stranger, concerning his precarious material situation, and his repressed thought took on the mask of symptomatic action which expressed symbolically what was meant to be concealed, and the speaker thus got relief from his unconscious.”  #RyanPhillippe 9 of 37

Principles are not always the only means of rendering man capable to face every storm. Price must bear pain; but is recompensed by pride.  In 1906, San Francisco, California USA, with a population of more than 400,000, was the largest city on America’s West Coast. What happened to it shortly after 5.00a.m. on Wednesday, 18 April 1906, was a disaster equal to what remote triggering Earthquake connected across the ocean that recently struck Japan and India 16 April 2016. Both Earthquakes occurred in the Ring of Fire, which is a horseshoe-shaped area, lined with a string of volcanoes and know for seismic activities or Earthquakes around the edges of the Pacific Ocean.  #RyanPhillippe 10 of 37

What did you do last Saturday? To kick off the 110th Birthday of the 1906 Earthquake in San Francisco, California, and Ecuador, we experienced to huge preparties on Saturday, 16 April 2016.  At least 41 people were killed in the latest Earthquake in Kyushu, Japan, on 16 April 2016, which was a magnitude 7.0, aftershocks and landslides have made a dire situation worse, and at least 23 people have been buried inside of buildings. More than 968 have been injured, and 91,700 evacuated, 775 homes damaged, and 90 houses destroyed.  In the Ecuador Earthquake, at least 413 people confirmed dead, the 7.8-magnitude Earthquake struck Ecuador’s Pacific coast on Saturday, 16 April 2016.  #RyanPhillippe 11 of 37

Although Ecuador was hit by a magnitude-7.8 Earthquake, and Japan by a magnitude-7.0 Earthquake, but the Ecuador Earthquake was almost 16 times stronger. On 31 January 1906, a magnitude-8.8 Earthquake occurred off the coast of Ecuador and Colombia, generating a tsunami that killed an estimated 500 to 1,500 individuals. It was the strongest Earthquake in recorded World history. It also snowed in Sacramento, California. Earthquakes between 7.0 and 7.9 magnitude occur about 15 times a year. Speaking of Earthquakes from 1906 when the San Andreas fault began rupturing at 5.13 am, under the waves of the Pacific Ocean, 90 miles west of the city, the massive Earthquake races down the California coast at two miles per second. #RyanPhillippe 12 of 37

Damaged electrical wires and overturned coal stoves sparked fires in a city where 90 percent of the houses were made of wood. Dozens of smaller fires merged into one, and the city’s 585 firefighters were helpless in the face of the conflagration, not least since underground water mains had been destroyed. In a desperate move, it was decided that the hoses standing in the path of the advancing blasé would be destroyed by cannon fire and explosives, creating a firebreak 175 feet wide. Large sections of the city were saved by this savvy act, although it took four full days to extinguish all the fires. However, some say the fires were set for different reasons. #RyanPhillippe 13 of 37

He considers his most fascinating hunting to have occurred in Inglewood. It is the only case where he has personally encountered direct malevolent activity. The manifestation began, he says, with apparitions of deceased prior occupants. Many of the neighbors who did not know that the former owners were dead continued to see them at their daily chores about the house and the grounds. Strange circumstances have centered twice around the gift shop. One evening, Ryan locked all the doors, then we he was leaving, he found the door leading to the courtyard unlocked. He was alone in the building at the time. He walked out the hose, shutting off all the lights. After locking up, he walked out to the parking lot, then turned to look back at the house. It was black. He proceeded across the street to his car. As he started to drive away, he looked up to see the entire third floor ablaze with lights. #RyanPhillippe 14 of 37

Some people suspected people like Mark Hopkins, William Wirt Winchester,  Sarah Winchester, and William Randolph Hearst to be vampires. It was not understood how these men could amass some of the largest fortunes in such a short life time, while most others were living in makeshift shelters on sidewalks, in the hills, wherever they could, as they had been n New Orleans’s experience our time or the time of our immediate forebears. You would not believe your eyes, but you must. How many gods rampaged through the Western United States during the four-day super outbreak of 1906? (Hint: There were way more than a hundred.) You have to understand the factors at play when nature unleashes its furry. Some report the fires and explosions started before the Earthquake. #RyanPhillippe 15 of 37

Armed officers patrolled Market Street. By and large, the citizenry behaved admirably in the aftermath. There was hardly any rioting, and remarkable as it may seem, Wednesday night, while the whole city crashed and roared into ruin, was a quiet night….There was no shouting nor yelling. There was no hysteria, no disorder. Ten of thousands of homeless ones. Some were wrapped in blankets. Others carried bundles of bedding and dear household treasures. Sometimes a whole family was harnessed to a carriage or delivery wagon that was weighted down with their possessions. Not a single whine or plaintive word did I hear from the hundreds of losers whom I spoke to. Instead of that there was a temper of helpfulness beyond counting. #RyanPhillippe 16 of 37

The ghosts of defunct bodies fly–people were literally shaken awake at 5.13am, on several occasions individuals inside the house saw a variety of objects being flung about or floating through the air. Doors and windows opened and closed of their own accord and the sounds of a man walking about the house were heard. They also noticed that a display case remained dust free as if it were being polished daily while other pieces of furniture in the unoccupied hose were heavily laden with dust. Many of the neighbors who did not know that the former owners were dead continued to see them at their daily chores about the house and the grounds. #RyanPhillippe 17 of 37

The house was startling to everyone—but nearly fatal to me. As some twenty people watched, one of the sitters—the grandson of a deceased prior occupant of the house—became violent and suddenly attacked me. He seemed to snarl as his fingers tightened about my throat. The man’s actions were like one possessed. “Get out of my house! This is my house!” It took five large men to drag him off me—they had to knock him unconscious to do it. When the man came to, he had no recollection of what had happened. His last memory was of someone saying, “Get out of my house.”  #RyanPhillippe 17.2 of 37

During the attack by the twenty-five-year-old man, the others present did not see him attack me. Instead, they saw an older, larger, white haired man. The attack broke up the evening. The next day I revived a call from a neighbor. He claimed to have seen the old man out in the yard and heard the sounds of something being smashed inside the house. Upon our return the next evening, we observed that all the furniture with the exception of the well-dusted display case had been thrown to the floor. The house was littered with broken glass and almost every drawer had been pulled out, like some dope fiend had been looking for the rent money in the sock drawer, and its contents were strewn about on the floor.  #RyanPhillippe 18 of 37

vbnm,.

It should be noted that the grandson who had attacked me elected to subject himself to intensive psychological testing in order to determine whether he had a latent capacity for unprovoked violence of this degree. His psychiatric and psychological profile indicated that there was no such tendency, and he never so much as got a parking ticket, never been arrested. I could only conclude from this that his mind and body had somehow been seized by the grandfather, who for his own reasons, resented my presence in the house. A surprising postscript occurred a few months later when the owners decided to add on to the rare of their home. While digging the foundation, workmen uncovered graves containing skeletons dressed in armor of the type worn by the Spanish conquistadors. #RyanPhillippe 19 of 37

Chance or symptomatic actions occurring in affairs of married life have often a most serious significance, and could lead those who do not concern themselves with the psychology of the unconscious to a belief in omens. It is not an auspicious beginning if a young woman loses her wedding ring on her wedding tour, even if it is only mislaid and soon found. I know a woman, now divorced, who in the management of her business affairs frequently signed her maiden name many years before she actually resumed it. Hardly, to judge from the weird tales surrounding the house. Over the years a variety of psychic phenomena have been reported—chains rattling, door knobs turning at 3am by themselves, whispers, footsteps—a Gothic thriller seemingly come to life. #RyanPhillippe 20 of 37

Once, I was the guest of a newly married couple and heard the young woman laughingly relate her last experience, how, on the day, succeeding her returning from the wedding tour, she had sought out her single sister in order to go shopping with her as in former times, while her husband was attending business. Suddenly she noticed a man on the opposite side of the street; nudging her sister she said, “Why, that is surely Mr. L.” She forgot that some weeks this man had been her husband. I was chilled at this tale, but I did not dare draw any inferences. The little story came back to me only several years later, after this marriage had ended most unhappily. #RyanPhillipppe 21 of 37

People love to embellish the story to say that the eerie sounds of a woman crying was gunned down by an irate husband. It did not happen. One night he wakened suddenly smelling the acrid odor of burnt wood. Switching on the light, Ryan found the room charred almost beyond recognition. A woman knelt in the corner, keening miserably and cradling a baby in her arms. As he watched frozen with fear, the image slowly faded. The woman disappeared and the room resumed its normal appearance. The story goes the mother died in childbirth. Whatever his indiscretions, the man died of natural causes in 1879. His remains were taken from the mansion and interred in a nearby graveyard. Some say that was the end of it. Some say not. #RyanPhillippe 22 of 37

A friend who has learned to observe signs related to me that the great actress Eleanor Duse introduced a symptomatic action into one of the roles which shows a very nicely from what depth she drew her acting. It was a drama dealing with adultery; she had just been in discussion with her husband and now stood soliloquizing before the seducer made his appearance. During this short interval, she played with her wedding ring, she pulled it off, replaced it and finally took it off again. She was now ready for the other. I have seen him. He looks exactly like his picture on the stairs. Joyce, remembers the time when she showed a guest through the hotel. Suddenly the woman turned pale and ran outside, later explaining that a spectral man had stood behind Joyce and was rubbing on her booty, nodding his head approvingly as she recounted the building’s history. #RyanPhillippe 23 of 37

I know of an antiquated man, who married a young girl, and instead of starting at once on his wedding tour, at the mansion, he decided to spend the night in a hotel. Scarcely had they reached the hotel, when he noticed with fright that he was without his wallet, in which he had the entire sum of money for the wedding tour; he must have mislaid or lost it. He was still able to reach his servant by telephone; the latter found the missing article in the coat discarded for the travelling clothes and brought it to the hotel to the waiting bridegroom, who had thus entered upon his marriage without means. Shortly afterwards, Phillippe’s son, Randolph, asked him who was staying in the “George’s room.”

“No one right now,” his father replied.

“Oh, yes there is,” the boy answered. “A man just came out and asked me to be quiet.”  #RyanPhillippe 24 of 37

Stories proliferate. In Room 2, guests report seeing a Victorian woman. In Room 3, they see a little boy. Maids make up the beds in Rooms 10 and 11, returning later to find them torn up with what look like albumen. The wildest story is the midnight cattle drive down the Main Street—sounds of mooing, hoof beats and cowbells. Guests have rushed to the window only to see a dark, deserted street. When Jane was cleaning the dining room after a party, using three keys to lock three doors before leaving late at night. She returned the next morning, unlocked all the doors and found the room in disarray. A hoax seems unlikely, it was so elaborate—a lot of trouble to execute and difficult to conceal. #RyanPhillippe 25 of 37

Then, there is the afternoon that the former hotel manager Shana Molotch landed on the ice machine in the former dungeon chatting with a plumber. “Is this place haunted?” he asked. Shana Molotch shrugged, “People believe what they want to believe.” The next moment Shana became an instead believer when something shoved hard enough to knock her forward. Red marks remained on her shoulder two day. Most recently, Shana Molotch was startled when a guest reported seeing a variety of ghosts—three mischievous boys and a man with beautiful pastel eyes and a mustache who looks like James Dean’s photograph. Most specifically, an apparition in Room 11 had a message for her, “Tell Shana that I am watching.”  #RyanPhillippe 26 of 37

It is consoling to think that the “losing of objects” by people is merely an unsuspected extension of a symptomatic action, and us thus welcome at least to the secret intention of the loser. Often it is only an expression of slight appreciation of the lost article, a secret dislike for the same, or perhaps for the person from whom it came, or the desire to lose this object was transferred to it from other and more important objects through symbolic association. The loss of valuable articles serves as an expression of diverse feelings; it may either symbolically represent a repressed thought—that is, it may bring memory which one would rather not hear—or it may represent a sacrifice to the obscure forces of fate, the worship of which is not yet entirely extinct even with us. #RyanPhillippe 27 of 37

These as well as other similar experiences have caused me to think that the actions executed unintentionally must inevitably become the source of misunderstanding in human relations.  A guest at the Senator Hotel on L Street, in Sacramento, California USA, who wishes to maintain her privacy, is very clear about what she saw and heard after a man barricaded himself in a car parked right across the street from the Castle at California Capitol, 18 April 2016. A spirit with swept up hair and a rather stylish Victorian clothing who gave her name as Aaliyah. Aaliyah says, is “a strong presence.” What exactly does the spirit mean? “Is she reassuring me or saying, ‘Watch out’?”  #RyanPhillippe 28 of 37

The hotel owners decided to call in a team of “ghost busters.” Mark Boccuzzi heads the Bay Area Paranormal Investigations, assisted by Scott Mossbaugh, co-founder, and five field technicians, Nancy Benson, Stacey Ellis, Ryan Phillippe and Lori and Jamie Fike. Their day jobs include teaching, engineering, and accounting. Sacramento police said they received a call about 18 April 2016, at 1.50p.m. about a man sitting in his car, blocking traffic on L Street, just north of the state Capitol. He was honking and screaming out of his silver sedan. The car had a lot of graffiti, as well as posters with religious and political rhetoric on them. #RyanPhillippe 29 of 37

Within a few moments, Sacramento’s finest arrived on scene, risking their lives, and began evacuating people dining at nearby restaurants. California Highway Patrol helped and the Sacramento Fire Department. CHP said the Capitol Castle was not on a full lock down, but they cleared the north section of the building as a precaution. They moved an Assembly committee hearing to the Senate side and closed the dungeon, which is now a museum. The team began its case study by drawing a detailed floor plan to establish a frame of reference. Experiments were recorded on the map, test for environmental anomalies—anything out of the norm. “Cold hard science is where it is at for us. We get a visceral rush from exploring something new, finding ways to best examine the situation to determine what is really going on.”  #RyanPhillippe 30 of 37

Police said for two hours they had their SWAT tactical teams and hostage negotiators trying to talk to the man. They were acting with an abundance of caution, moving the public back further every hour. Ryan reports that he was fearful for his son’s life and it reminded him of 25th August 2001, and 11 September 2001 when he lost people he loved. This is the exact sport he meets his son at every day and did not know if her had been hard or was being held hostage. “We do not believe that this is some part of a larger threat. All we know is this is a barricaded individual in a vehicle. We are not sure what his intentions are,” Officer Matt McPhail of the Sacramento Police Department reported.  #RyanPhillippe 31 of 37

The team uses a tri field meter to measure electric magnetic frequencies. They had thermometers to record cold spots, compasses to mark deviations from the field map and a wide variety of cameras and recorders—millions of dollars worth of highly advanced equipment. The suspect, a young man wearing a black tank top and red sweat pants, stepped out of his car. The Sacramento Police Department’s explosive devices team member used their robots to search inside the car. Police announced about 7p.m. that they had found a suspicious device in the vehicle and were in the process of rendering it safe.   #RyanPhillippe 32 of 37

Dagmar Morrow, a Mountain View medium, accompanied the team. At first she felt overwhelmed by impressions. “So many spirits have memories of the castle,” she said. “Imagine 150 years of passion and intrigue. Some of them are rather mischievous. It is as though they are teasing, ‘Find out about us if you can’.” Slowly, Mrs. Morrow sorted the out. In the dungeon, desperate men speculated on their fate. In the lobby Ryan appeared, looking for his son. Mrs. Morrow most vivid image was the “Gray Lady,” a thirtyish woman wearing Victorian clothing—nipped in waist, lace at the cuffs and a neckline, a short frilly apron. “She was shy, diffident, looked at me questioningly as if asking me, ‘Is everything all right?’ Some of the young women and men investigators were drawing diagrams of the castle. She did not approve of them sitting on the floor, did not think it was proper.” #RyanPhillippe 33 of 37

Their data proved inconclusive, but no one’s giving up. “We hope to return soon to the Castle to resume our investigations,” Boccuzzi says. “What better use is there for our spare time than attempting to document the survival of the human spirit?” The perpetrator of the act, who looked to be holding a cell phone in one hand and a piece of paper in the other. He walked back toward the officers, where he was arrested. After his arrest, police deployed robots to search inside of the vehicle. At around 6pm, there was a boom that came from the scene. The perpetrator, who is unaware of any associated intention, takes no account of it, and does not hold himself responsible for it. On the other hand, the second party, having regularly utilized even such acts as those of his partner to draw conclusions as to their purpose and meaning, recognizes more of the stranger’s psychic processes than the latter is ready either to admit or believe that he has imparted. #RyanPhillippe 34 of 37

cgvhbjnkm,.JPG

While Mrs. Morrow communed with her Gray Lady, Inspector Boccuzzi detected an electromagnetic anomaly; a column of energy recorded on his tri field meter. When he tested the spot later, a young man appeared, and he said to him, “Sir, the street is blocked off, please go the other way.” The young man made a left, walking behind the castle, it was about 6.10pm. The paranormal investigator is cautious. “Other things can cause this type of disturbance, so I am hesitant to say that what I detected was directly related to what Mrs. Morrow was picking up, but I did find the timing very interesting.” Inspector Boccuzzi and his team were up until 5am, prowling every room with their video cameras and recorders. He becomes indignant when these conclusions drawn from his symptomatic actions are held up to him; he declares them baseless because he does not see any conscious intention in their execution, and complains of being misunderstood by the other. #RyanPhillippe 35 of 37

Ryan Phillippe, whose psychological insight was truly remarkable, expressed the same views long before Professor Freud came on the scene. Pay attention to melodies which one hums to himself aimlessly and unconsciously, will regularly discover the relation of the melody’s text to a theme which occupies the person at the time. A young woman suddenly flings open the door of the consulting room whole her predecessor is still present. She excuses herself on the ground of “thoughtlessness”; it soon comes to light that she demonstrated her curiosity which caused her at an earlier time to intrude into the bedroom of her parents. Girls who are proud of their beautiful hair know so well how to manipulate combs and hairpins, that in the midst of conversation, their hair becomes loosened during the treatment (in a reclining position).  #RyanPhillippe 36 of 37

Some men then scatter change from their pockets and thus pay for the hour of treatment; the amount scattered is in proportion to their estimation of the work. Whoever forgets articles in the office, such as eyeglasses, gloves, hang bands, generally indicated that he cannot tear himself away and is anxious to return soon.  One afternoon, when I was off duty, I was reading about a certain case which recalled to my mind a similar one I had when I was in the hospital in New York. I am in the habit of making marginal notes and so I took up my pencil to write down the cast, but when I came to note the name of the patient whom I had known for a number of months and in whom I had taken an unusual amount of interest, I found that I could not recall it. I tried very hard to bring it back to my mind, but without success. It was strange and puzzling; but I knew definitely who I meant, I finished the note. #RyanPhillippe 37 of 37
