They present evidence that supports their preconceived appraisals. People have to be able to interpret behavior in multiple ways or to look at things from different angles. How little we know what would make paradise for our neighbors! We judge from our own desires, and our neighbors themselves are not always open enough to even throughout a hint. How happy would it be for humankind, could they behold their foibles and vices with the piercing eyes that others can. There are few people whose judgment is a true mirror to themselves. We are all born for love. It is the principle of existence, and its only end.
