Moon in my Pocket

advadv

Many a man spends a few months searching his soul, if he has a soul to search, when the thirties fall behind him, and the fifties loom ahead.

IMG_20151015_234012

I am breaking through a pattern of the circulating library romance to a minor triumph of a humanist Christianity, which is marred chiefly by my unenterprising conception of a narrative language.

cadv

I was in high spirits on the evening, late in 2015, that I called at my Avalon Beach home, overlooking Pittwater, twenty some miles from Sydney. There were two reasons for my cheerfulness.

IMG_20151015_143916

First, the Royal Society of Literature had that day announced in London that I had been awarded the W.H. Heinemann Foundation for Literature for my reports on Economics and Society.

IMG_20151015_184116

Second, a few hours earlier I had destroyed about two hundred typewritten pages, representing two thirds or so of a series of reports I have been working on for seven or eight months.

dsbds

My delight in the award of the Heinemann Foundation, which is designed to encourage the production of literary works of the real worth, requires no explanation; it is an honour any novelist would be elated to win.

IMG_20151015_144121

I aim to produce something more lasting than a row of potboilers. Although some journalists and literary critics and literary cliques smile patronizingly when my name s mentioned, they cannot quite contrive to dismiss me as a mere commercialist.

sdarnsdtn

I am a writer, and my first concern is that my work should enable me to keep my family in decent comfort.

IMG_20151015_234032

If, after the butcher, baker, grocer, doctor, rate collector, and all the rest have been paid, one or more of my reports should prove to have enduring value, I will be well pleased, but my primary aim is to be a good craftsman, to write reports that men and women in my own time will enjoy reading.

IMG_20151015_143800

I am inclined to believe that, if I do so much, I will have done more than most of those who look down their noses at me.

scadvadvasd

I had decided that the two hundred or so reports that I had scrapped on the day of my call were not quite right, according to my standards of craftsmanship.

IMG_20151010_104210

Having decided this, I knew the journals themselves, a study of the problems besetting a twenty first century journalist in our technocratic society, would never satisfy me unless I began anew. So when I had destroyed what I had written, I was a happy man.

ASVad

I started out these reports again, but was perhaps I was subconsciously out of sympathy with the theme, the characters or some other aspect it. At any rate, I did not finish it.

segqerbrt

After working on a second version for some months I once again lost patience with the journals, and scrapped them when I had most of my story, between eighty thousand and ninety thousand words, on paper.

IMG_20151011_102705

In its place, I wrote an entirely different journal, Daughter of Silence, a tale built upon the girl who was 95 pounds and 16 years old who was sexually abused by the Mayor of a prominent. Why do some men like kissing girls?

,.,.m

When the Daughter of Silence series about 16 year old Mandi Koba and Mayor Kevin Johnson of Sacramento, California, USA was picked up internationally in 2015, it immediately went to the top of the American, British, and Australian newsrooms of most controversial topics.

wegqerhb

About the same time, big wigs on Broadway wanted to create a dramatization is a sexually aggression Mayor, living like a gangster living a lifestyle like Al Capone in 1931, who took girls and women and money as he pleased, with no concern for the law. The plot has been well received by many New York critics.

.m.m

I always wanted to write, I just got sidetracked. Just as we have some inherited status and roles and some that are acquired, we also have two types of reference groups (family, nationality, racial/ethnic group) and choose secondary groups (clubs, lodges, churches, or temples, and communities).

Captureefwrgeth

Contact with others often causes images of them to become more complex and, as such, more in time with reality. I like to think members of the medical profession are mercenary bastards, but the fact that every doctors I know personally is humane and generous and makes it very hard to maintain my stereotype.

,m,mljljk

For a human being to adapt to a rapidly changing World, he needs the companionship and support of other with whom he may sometimes disagree, but nevertheless feels a fundamental bound like mindedness.

IMG_20151014_230005

We have been born in an important age of kaleidoscopic experiments, adventures and clashes, not only between the virtues and vices, as formerly, but rather between virtues themselves.

IMG_20151015_145246

The old virtues have begun to lose their authority; they are no longer able to fulfill the religious, moral, intellectual and social demands of the contemporary soul. Man’s soul seems to have grown bigger, it cannot fir any longer within the old molds.

,m ,ml

This leads us to an important aspect of the interrelationship between personality and society: individuality, conformity, and nonconformity. Conformity is sometimes considered a dirty word, equated with giving up uniqueness, forsaking your ideas, goals, and personal ways of doing things, in a work, copping out.

qwfrbht

However, there is some degree of conformity in nearly everything we do, even when it seems utterly unique. I may have an extremely unusual job (say I am a greased pig chaser at county fairs), but I am conforming in that I am working for a living, not being a full time loafer.

dvWRBHWRYN

What happens to the non-conformist, the person who does not go along with expected norms? Society responds to him with social sanctions, all sorts of punishments and withholding rewards. Is flashmobbing deviant? As it turns out flashmob activities are neither unplanned nor spontaneous.

wegwr

Instead, they are fairly well-orchestrated events usually planned over the Internet and through the use of cellular phones. The phenomenon is a natural outgrowth of a highly technological society where groups, social reformers, protesters, newshounds, and others can organize, demonstrate, make political statements, or just have fun without ever having met or interacted face to face basis.

.,m.mn

Do flashmobs pose a threat to social order? Should participants be punished? It is harmless fun? Deviance and conformity are powerful yet elusive concepts on which there is not unanimous agreement.

IMG_20151015_144057

Nevertheless, the extent to which people conform or deviate from the rules of society is one of the criteria by which we set them apart for differential and unequal treatment. Most people consider murder to be one of the most heinous acts, and they cannot imagine the intentional killing of another person not being considered deviant.

.m.m.mj

Yet there are many times when taking another person’s life is not viewed negatively and in fact may be rewarded by society. Soldiers who kill during war and law enforcements officers who kill in the line of duty are not considered deviant by most members of society, and often they are regarded as heroes.

IMG_20151015_145144

An individual’s age sex, race, ethnicity, social class, physical appearance, demeanor, and other variables all may enter into the deviance conformity equation. In everyday life, we can see that certain behaviors are considered deviant in children (e.g., sex, smoking, drinking, gambling) may be tolerated in adults.

asvADBsfb

Likewise, a double standard may tolerate premarital sex for boys, but not for girls. Members of racial and ethnic minorities often find that their behavior is more scrutinized than those of the dominant group, and they are more likely to be labeled deviant for participating in activities tolerated in others.

IMG_20151015_144045

A person’s social class also may affect deviant labels and may provide the resources in court could mean the difference between acquittal and life imprisonment or execution.

Capturemkljkj

Consider some high profile criminal cases, the Menendez brothers, O. J. Simpson, Mayor Kevin Johnson vs Mandi Koba, Jon Benet Ramsey, Laci Peterson, and Patrick Dennehy.

IMG_20151010_111734

How were public perceptions and official views of deviance affected by the age, sex, race, and social class of the principal actors? These cases illustrate the critical role of the actors as well as the audience in defining deviance and conformity.

Svsfb

What is deviant to one audience may be regarded as conformity by another. This reflects the diversity of values and interest of different groups.

IMG_20151010_111720

For example, while the media highly publicized Mayor Kevin Johnson criminal trial found him not guilty in the rape and molestation of 16 years old Mandi Koba, six other high school students, and a city employee, many believe these cases were wrongly dismissed. Using the critical thinking approach to sociology, what role do you think race, sex, and social class played in these trials?

zsvsnb

Even though the authorities and public officially acquitted Kevin Johnson in the criminal cases, millions of people around the World unofficially concluded that he was deviant and guilty of a crime. The Mayor Kevin Johnson case also illustrates the extraordinary influence of the mass media in defining deviance in contemporary society.

IMG_20151010_111741

White collar and occupational crimes account for more lost revenue than all the burglaries, larceny thefts, auto thefts, and arsons combined, reports the FBI, Uniform Crime Reports 2015.

zxbvxb

Consequently, crime, which is any act that violates a criminal law, is divided into violent offenses (against persons) and nonviolent offenses (against property). Therefore, we can see that while all crime is deviance, not all deviance is crim. Although crime is a major social problem, most of the deviance that occurs in society does not involve any type of criminal activity. Sometimes entire categories of people are viewed as deviant by those who are intolerant of social and cultural diversity.

IMG_20151015_144650

American society, especially if in involves skills or unique talents, are highly valued. Americans tend strongly to encourage conformity to dominant values and beliefs, and those who challenge the status quo, question mainstream beliefs, or violate norms of the dominant group often are viewed as deviant.

scadv

If people are naturally evil, then deviant behavior can readily be explained: give people rules, and they will violate them. On the other hand, if people are basically good, they will abide by society’s norms. There are three types of people in this World, good, bad, and those who flounder between the two states of being. Good people are conformists and bad ones are deviant.

God gave the Earth to men and women and all living life. It is our how. Therefore, the first human couple, Adam and Eve, was not created to populate the Heavens, God had already created angels to live in Heaven. Rather, God took the first man and settled him in a delightful paradise called the Garden of Eden. God gave him and his future offspring the prospect of enjoying life without end on Earth.

SCADVsdbsrn

Originally, the Garden of Eden was a paradise; the first human couple was to fill the Earth with their offspring. In time, they were to populate the entire globe and make it a paradise. The Earth will never be destroyed, it will always be mankind’s home.

IMG_20151015_145015

Adam and Eve disobeyed God, so God put them out of the Garden of Eden. Paradise was lost, and no man has yet to succeed in restoring it. The Earth has been handed over to the wicked, reports Job 9.24.

svADVsadv

Has God abandoned his original purpose for mankind? No! He is almighty. He cannot faith. He will restore the human race to the way he meant it to be. Humans are made from dust. We are not spirits living in body of flesh. We are physical creatures, so no part of us survives death.

IMG_20151015_144631

When we die, our brain dies too, and our thoughts perish. When Jesus arrived at Bethany near Jerusalem, his friend Lazarus had been dead for four days. Jesus wen to the burial place with Martha and Mary, sisters of the deceased man, can you imagine the joy of Martha and Mary when Jesus raised Lazarus back to life?

WFQAV

Martha was already aware of the good news about the dead. She knew that God would resurrect the dead to live on Earth again. Thus, Lazarus said nothing about his experience of death because the dead are unconscious. Can the dead speak to us?

IMG_-6qcdk1

The dead can neither speak nor hear. However, some angels are wicked, and they may speak to people and pretend to be dead humans. God forbids trying to inquire of the dead.

ASCadvedbndfgn

Who will return to life? Many millions of people who are dead in the grave will return to life on Earth. Even some who did not know God and who practiced bad things will be resurrected. Resurrected ones will be able to learn the truth about God and to exercise faith in Jesus by obeying him.

IMG_20151015_144836

Those who return to life and do good things will be able to enjoy life forever on Earth. What does the resurrection tell us about God? God made hope for the dead possible by sending his Son to die for us. So the resurrection tells us about God’s love and underserved kindness.

Captureewefer

When the dead return to life, who do you especially want to see? The Kingdom of God is a Heavenly government. It will replace all other governments and will cause God’s will to be done in Heaven and on Earth. The news about God’s Kingdom is good.

IMG_3758n4

Soon God’s Kingdom will satisfy man’s requirement for a good government. It will unit everyone living on Earth. God’s Son is the ideal King because he is kind and he is firm for what is right. Also, he is powerful enough to help people because he will rule over the Earth from Heaven.

sdvfer

After he was resurrected, he ascended to Heaven and sat down to wait at God’s right hand. Finally, God gave him power to begin ruling. We have a rich or barren future, just as we conceive it. Since the Bible shows that the dead are unconscious, hellfire is clearly a false teaching that slanders God. The very idea of tormenting people with fire disgusts him. One likes to be done well by in every tense, past, present, and future.
