Real intimacy transcends gender and sexual orientation. As I was walking home the other day, a young man stopped me and asked me if I would like to “take a moment for LGBT rights?” And I gave him a stern no. He then tucked his nose back into his books, furled his eye brows, looking confused.

As far as I know, discrimination is illegal, and has been since the Civil Rights Act of 1875, and now homosexual couples have the explicit right to marry in America, and in many other countries around the World, so what more is life to be done besides them accepting themselves?

When I was a kid, there was this stereotype of gay men being perfect. They were all six feet tall, great body fragrance;

hygiene was impeccable, had perfectly muscular bodies and chiseled faces, as if they were reproductions of Michelangelo’s David. David is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture, created by Michelangelo, circa 1504.

The statue is carved from marble and represents the Biblical hero David, and also depicts the perfect male body and facial structure. David also represents the defense of civil liberties. I admire gay guys because you can look up to them without them fearing if you are attracted to them, they do not care, they are loving and supportive regardless. And typically, they are not going to try and take advantage of your admiration.

These gay men, mythical gay men of my childhood were also very mature, clean, and successful. They also had great careers, terrific personalities, picture perfect houses or apartments, nice cars, and dressed like models all the time.

The only way you knew that they preferred other men is if you saw their pictures, of them having romantic trysts in Paris, France, or were their intimate friends. So many people actually envied homosexual men because they were the epitome of perfect. They also speak proper English and can write a full sentence, and have no tattoos to take away from the naturally beautiful perfect skin.

Not only that, but many gay men did not have children, so they had more money to spend on whatever they want. As you know, it takes about $565,000.00 to raise just one child to the age of 18, and that does not include college. However, as times changed, gay men wanted to get married and have traditional families also. Not everyone likes having dogs in the place of children, and they also want to leave a legacy behind.

So pioneers like Neil Patrick Harris came along, a picture perfect celebrity, who is openly gay, married, and has children. Not only that, but Mr. Harris seems so down to Earth. He is richer than God, but chooses to live in Harlem, which is a prominently African American neighborhood in New York.

I have never seen his home, but I know Harlem has nice housing. Mr. Harris also has two children, twins, a boy and a girl, and they are just adorable. The daughter gets her hair done at local beauty shops. I am so proud of Mr. Harris, he is just as real as they come.

So men like Neil Patrick Harris are restoring the image of gay men, as beneficial, loving, successful, and kind family men. They are no different from a heterosexual father, but just maybe more better.

And I have to admit, I was kind of upset with Gio Benitez and Tommy DiDario, one looks like Superman, the other looks like He-man, because they had not gotten married yet, but are so clearly in love. However, just in the last 24 hours, the couple announced that they got engaged, in front of the Eiffel Tower, in Paris, France. That makes me so happy.

It warms my heart to see a few of my heroes, living real lives, and being brave enough to tell the World who they are and express their love for each other. They are truly exploring the intimacy of a relationship, and are monogamous.

This is a happy ending to Prince Charming and He-man, and these brave young men are opening the doors for others, and showing us that no matter what, the best things in life come when you are true to yourself. It also gives me hope that someday I will be able to live a full life, whatever that entails.  At least Princess Aurora  can live a stress free life of worrying if she is attractive enough, which she is.
