Honor is a creature of the World’s making, and the World hath the’ power of a creator over it, and may govern and direct it as they please. My honor is my own keeping, beyond the reach of all mankind. Hospitality is one of the first Christian duties. Hope is from within, and not from without, man himself must work out his own salvation. As harps in the wind, dreamers respond to every breath of fancy, voicing in their moods all the ebb and flow of the ideal.
The darker the inexperience, the more praise to the erudite who dispels it; the deeper the partiality, more fame to the courage which brave it, perhaps it is better to wake up, even to suffer, rather than to remain a dupe to illusions all one’s life. What we call misconceptions are often wider vision of past and present realities, a movement of a man’s soul with the larger sweep of the World’s forces.
Words are gas till you condense them into pictures. Imagination is the child of inherited and living impressions. To glory in a prophetic vision of knowledge covering the Earth is easier exercise of believing imagination than to see its beginning in newspaper placards, staring at you from a bridge beyond the cornfields; and it might well happen to most of us dainty people that we were in the thick of the battle of Armageddon without being aware of anything more than the annoyance of a little explosive smoke and struggling on the ground immediately about us.
Many men have been praised as vividly imaginative on the strength of their profuseness in indifferent drawing or cheap narration: reports of very poor talk going on in distant orbs; or portraits of Lucifer coming down on his bad errands as a large ugly man with bat’s wings and spurts of phosphorescence; or exaggerations of wantonness that seem to reflect life in a diseased dream.
The nets woven by the human imagination, although they are composed of the smallest materials, are perhaps full as difficult to be broken as the strongest real bonds. Masquerades are the produce of a strange excess of fancy, an overheated imagination set to work by the wild desire of amusement. So far as we have faith in our fairy tales we are none the worse.
Your imagination prevails over your skill, and you tell rather what you wish than what you know. I am thinking of asking if you are healthy in the distance and listening to your brisk pace. I wish you are happy forever! I hope you will not change too much. Life is a love that no one regrets year after year. A ray of warm light, lively lights and warmest wishes shed golden light over the sea that mirrors the evening clouds, and the footprints on the beach record our difficult parting. I wish you could return and rise as the sun from the sea.
Although you are now on the other side of the Earth, it does not necessarily mean that we are remote from each other as now the World has become a village: we can chat on the Internet, and see each other on the visual phone. You may set off by airplane, in the morning, and be guest at my home at noon. You always fly like a comet away and back in the golden sunlight. My friend, please look at the white cloud that is my heartfelt longing.
He who has nothing external that can divert hi must find pleasure in his own thoughts, and must conceive himself what he is not, for who is pleased with what he is? Let us learn to have the strength of confidence, the strength that will enable us to live forever in the aspiration for the better, and to return in act from the virtual World, but still we need that aspiration. Imagination can surpass the wonders of art, but those of nature leave all imagination far behind.
All the great books in the World are but mutilated shadowings forth of invisible and eternally unemobodied images of the soul. Gentlemen of unpracticed imaginative capacity cannot vision for themselves exactly what they would, being unable to exercise authority over the proportions and the hues of the objects they conceive, which are very much at the mercy of their sportive caprices.
Undaunted persistence may subdue whatever peak in the World. Please cheer up and never be a coward when facing the unpleasant, but start from scratch to have a new lease on life. The people who render the World prosperous are those who are courageous in life to try to solve the new problems in life. My God, may you be one of them. The World likes a tender little boat carries love, truth, kindness, and beauty to life. Embrace the World that belongs to you. May you be young and beautiful forever.
What a magnificent cause to strive for the happiness of mankind. May we strive forever this great goal. I have collected everything beautiful in nature and put them in a letter to deliver to you and hidden all the sweet words in the buds to pour out at the moment of the reunion. May your success and progress like sunrise shine on your forever! Wherever we stay, we have kept correspondence. Mountains and rivers cannot keep us from sharing regards and compliments , wishing each other happiness and success year after year.
Beautiful as it is, our treasure island, I feel sometimes, is like a lonely boat drifting on the sea. The true picture of life as it is, if it could be adequately painted, would show men what they are, and how they might rise, not, indeed, to perfection, but one step first, and then another on the ladder. A handful of good life is better than a whole bushel of learning. He that lives well lives long. No matter where you are fortune and mirth will be with your every minute.
