Money does Inflate Happiness

104

A remarkable consistency surrounds the relationship between money and happiness. Money has been shown to have a huge and reliable effect on happiness. Humans devote much of their time and energy to earning money because they are motivated by the belief that money will have a substantial impact on their overall life satisfaction.

106

I believe that it is true that with the more money you make the better off your life will be. I studied a young man, who used to work sixty hours a week, and he was under a lot of stress, but was able to buy the thing he needed, did not have to depend on anyone, and could go out with friends and have fun and buy gifts for people, which made him happy.

231

However, the same young man was injured and had to stop working. While he was in recovery, he was more miserable. Not only did his body hurt, but he had to live among other people with low incomes. He noticed that his neighbors were dysfunctional, violent, and untrustworthy and many of them were criminals.

113

The people with lower incomes were like children, however, they were worse because they did not have adult supervision, as they were the adults. These people never took responsibility for their own actions, had poor hygiene, and were generally embarrassing.

111

Not only that, but while in recovery, even if you are hurt, you have to prove that you are hurt to continue to receive your income. This young man was very industrious, so he was not lazy, he was truly injured, but lost all control of his life. He was at the mercy of others. If they did not like him, they could get away with harassing him, cutting his pay off, and his neighbors would even vandalize his car.

126

While he was trying to rebuild his life and repair his body, he noticed that his friends, who were still working, were generally happy. Although they were stressed out, they still had more options in life. If they did not like their job, they could choose to work for a new company. If they did not like where they lived, they could move.

283

If the friends, who were employed, needed car repairs, they could afford to pay for them. Living on a low income is no fun, especially when you are used to having money. Also, with less money, you do not feel like an adult because you can never afford to do anything, and after a while you lose all of your friends and end up lonely.

293

So be thankful for your jobs, no matter how much you do not like them, they provide you with a lot of happiness. Could you imagine wanting to work, but your body is seriously damaged and your reputation also?  The spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

301

Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. Everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity.

People with more money have things that inflate their happiness, but keep your faith and know that no matter how much you make, God will bless you. You have not come this far just to be thrown away. The fact of the matter, however, is that the more money you make, the more control you have over your life. There have been some suggestions that if you earn a low income, over a long period, that you start to feel inauthentic

243

Finally, because people often spend relative to their current income, a loss of income may actually prevent people from maintaining their current life standards; having to file for bankruptcy because one can no longer pay the mortgage on an unnecessarily large house may in fact lead to a real decrease in happiness. So lower incomes generally means you are less happy. Life is more stressful.
