There are thieves and murderers and wife-beaters among my people. There are also geniuses and saints and many who walk all their days upon God’s pathway. In other words, Americans are human beings with exactly the same faults and virtues as members of other nations. We need to bring a heart power into this money getting, fiat currency-worshipping civilization. We need to bring a moral force into the utilitarian motives and interests of the time; we must stand for God and Home and Native Land, versus gain and greed and grasping selfishness.

The World must be made safe by enforcing human rights. Its peace must be planted upon the tested foundations of political liberty. We have no selfish ends to serve. We desire no conquest, no dominion. We seek no indemnities for ourselves, no material compensation for the sacrifices we shall freely make.

We are but one of the champions of the rights of mankind. We shall be satisfied when those rights have been made as secure as the faith and the freedom of nations can make them. We assume that social prejudice may be overcome by legislation, and that equal rights cannot be secured unless you treat both races the same, in the eyes of the law.

Property can be paid for, the lives of peaceful and innocent people cannot be. There is no doubt that this twenty-first centenary of strikes the keynote of another transition in the history of this nation; and the prominence of women in the management of America is a fitting tribute to the part she is destined to play among the forces of the future.

This of itself marks the dawn of a new day. Now the periods of discovery, of settlement, of developing resources and accumulating wealth have passed in rapid succession. Wealth, in the nation, as in the individual, brings leisure, repose, reflection.

The struggle with nature is over, the struggle with ideas begins. We stand then, it seems to me, in this last decade, just in the portals of a new and untired movement on a higher plain and in a grander strain than the past has called forth. It does not require a prophet’s vision to divine its trend and image its possibilities from the forces we see already at work around us; nor is it hard to guess what must be the status of woman’s work under the new regime, but we expect to see its extent and strength rightly prefigure her increasing power as moral factor. They really standout against the background of a lazy dead-end society.

However, as far as my research indicates, the average man of the human race, is less frequently ready to admit the actual need among the sturdier forces of the World for woman’s help or influence. And that is why Aaliyah made the song More than a Woman, Beyonce made the song Women Run the World, and Britney Spears recorded the song Womanizer, the lyrics and videos are to make you realize that women are more than just pretty, they have a great social and economic impact on a global level.

Great questions await her interference, that she could throw any light on problems of national import, that her intermeddling could improve the management of school systems, or elevate the tone of public institutions, or humanize and sanctify the far reaching influences of prisons and reformatories and improve the treatment of lunatics and imbeciles, that she has a work worth hearing on mooted questions in political economy, that she could contribute a suggestion on the relations of labor and capital, or offer a thought on honest money and honorable trade, I fear the majority of Americans are  not yet prepared to concede. It may be that these questions, in their right perspective, being absorbed in the immediate needs of their own political complications.

A good deal of equal opportunity for women depends on where we put the emphasis in this World; and our men are not perhaps to blame  if they see everything colored by the light of those agitations in the midst of which they live and move and have their being.

The part they have had to play in American history, during the last 100 years, has their own political advantage, as well as secure advantage. It is the thinker and the doer, the man or woman who solves the problem by enriching their country with an invention worth thousands or by a thought inestimable and precious is given neither bread nor a stone.

One is too often left to die in obscure and neglect even if spared in his or her life the bitterness of fanatical jealousies and detraction. And yet political, and surely American politics, is hardly a school for great minds. Sharpening rather than deepening it develops the faculty of taking advantage of present emergencies rather than the insight to distinguish between the true and the false, the lasting and the ephemeral advantage. Highly cultivated selfishness rather than consecrated benevolence is its passport to success. It is conducive neither to profound statesmanship nor to the higher type of manhood.

An obscure dreamer and castle builder, prosaically poor and ridiculously insistent on the reality of his dreams, was enabled through the devotion of a noble woman to give to civilization a magnificent continent. Some people are pure minded and have the untiring devotion to curtail the dangers of the wild beasts and of wilder men, the mysteries of unknown wastes and unexplored forests, the horrors of pestilence and famine, of exposure and loneliness, during all those years of discovery and settlement, were braved by women and men who had been mostly delicately constituted and most tenderly nurtured.

And when the times of physical hardship and danger were past, when the work of clearing and opening up was over and the struggle for accumulation began, again woman’s inspiration and help were needed and still was she loyally at hand-demanding and making possible equal advantages of education for women as for men, and, in the face of discouragement and incredulity, bequeathing to women the opportunities of corporate American and religious studies.

And at the most trying time of what we have called the Accumulative Period, when internecine war, originated through man’s love of gain and his determination to subordinate national interest and human rights alike to considerations of personal profit and losses, some believe that Americans are all lunatics because of the way many of them behave and the things they speak about, and the drenching our country with its own best blood, advocates insists on the humane and rational treatment of the insane and bringing about a reform in the lunatic asylums of the country, making a great step forward in the tender regard for the weak by the strong throughout the World.

Senseless strife,–those uncomplaining souls with a great heart ache of their own, rigid recording dying whispers for absent loves ones, with tearful eyes pointing to man’s last refuge, giving the last Earthly hand clasp and performing the last friendly office for strangers who a great common sorrow hard made kin, whole they knew that somewhere—somewhere a husband, a brother, a father, a son, was being tended by stranger hands—or mayhap those familiar eyes were even then being closed forever by just such another ministering angel of mercy and love.

However, why mention names? Time would fail to tell of the noble army of men and women who shine like beacon lights in the otherwise sordid wilderness of this accumulative period—prison reformers and tenement cleansers, quiet unnoted workers in hospitals and houses, among imbeciles, among outcast—the sweeting, purifying antidotes for the poisons of man’s acquisitiveness,–mollifying and soothing with the tenderness of compassions and love the wounds and bruises caused by his overreaching and avarice.

The desire for quick returns and large profits tempts capital ofttimes into unsanitary; well nigh inhuman investments,–tenements tinder boxes, stilling, stunting, sickening alleys and pestiferous slums; regular rents, no waiting, large precentages,–rich coffers coined out of the life-blood of human bodies and souls.

Men and women herded together like cattle, breathing in malaria and tuberculous and typhus and hepatitis from an atmosphere seething with moral as well as physical impurity; reveling in vice as their native habitat and then, to drown the whisperings of their higher consciousness and effectually to hush the yearnings and accusation within, flying to narcotics and opiates—rum, tobacco,  Pat’s Blue Ribbon, marijuana, opium, and sex, binding hand and foot, body and soul, till the proper image of God is transformed into a fit associate for demons and devils,–a besotted, enervated, idiotic wreck, or else a monster of wickedness terrible and destructive.

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book:if anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes word away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

Five cases of Hepatitis type A virus have been confirmed in Napa, California, and Napa County Public Health officials are trying to find the source of the infection. Two employees at La Toque restaurant and BANK Cafe and Bar, in the Westin Verasa Hotel, in Nap, California  contracted the disease, as a result people who have eaten at these locations should monitor their health for 50 days.

People who may have been exposed are urged to wash their hands thoroughly after using the bathroom and before food preparation to avoid spreading the virus. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, dark urine, clay-colored bowel movement, joint pain and jaundice. Health officials report the 3 other cases are not associated with the hotel or any other public locations.

Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease transmitted through person-to-person contact, or by ingesting contaminated food or drink. Children and adults who have not been fully immunized for the virus are at risk. This is the first time in more than five years that acute Hepatitis A infection has been confirmed in a Napa County resident. People infected with the Hepatitis A virus can spread it to others two weeks before they are sick and in the seven days after they develop symptoms. Signs and symptoms of Hepatitis A start on average 28 days after exposure, although they may occur 15-50 days after exposure.

A Sacramento, California high school is at the center of a tuberculosis outbreak linked to an infectious student who tested positive for active Tuberculosis in February. Four more students at Grant Union High School in Sacramento have contracted active Tuberculosis. Three related tuberculosis cases are considered an outbreak, Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services. Four relatives and friends of the student who initially tested positive have also contracted active Tuberculosis — bringing the total to nine known cases. In all, a little more than 450 students and staff have been tested.

They were considered at high risk because they used the same classrooms or adjacent classrooms as the student who was infectious. Of those, 116 have tested positive for Tuberculosis, though the vast majority have been confirmed to be latent Tuberculosis, which is dormant and does not produce symptoms.

An additional thirty of the students in that group still need further testing to determine whether they have active Tuberculosis, Symptoms of active Tuberculosis can include a persistent cough and fever. Active Tuberculosis is contagious if it is in the lungs and accompanied by a cough.

It is a war against all nations. American ships have been sunk, American lives have been taken, in ways which is has stirred us very deeply to learn of, but the ships and people of other neutral and friendly nations have been sunk and overwhelmed in the waters in the same way. There has been no discrimination. The challenge is to all mankind. Each nation must decide for itself how it will meet it. The choice we make for ourselves must be made with a moderation of counsel and a temperateness of judgment befitting our character and our pure and honest motives as a nation. We must put excited feeling away.

Our motive will not be revenge or the victorious assertion of the physical might of the nation, but only the vindication of right, of human right, of which we are only a single champion. Stand still and see the salvation of God. There is no escape through law of man or God from the inevitable:–the laws of changeless justice bind oppressor with oppressed; and close as sin and suffering joined we march to fate abreast. That does not conflict with the 13^th Amendment, which abolished slavery and involuntary servitude.

The object of the 14^th amendment was undoubtedly to enforce the absolute equality of the two races before the law, but in the nature of things it could not have intended to abolish distinctions based upon color, or to enforce social, as distinguished from political, equality, or a comingling of the two races upon terms unsatisfactory to either. The guards Mock Jesus: The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him. They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?” And said other insulting things, I did not get my doors beat in. At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them.

“If you are the Christ,” they said, “tell us.” Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, and if I ask you, you would not answer me. However, from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the might God.

This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man’s number. His number is 666. Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of Earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, the most contemptible of all human beings, a social bully, usually does nothing, when matter come to a crisis.

Even when he or she fights, one fights bunglingly, and innocently. All whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the World, all inhabitants of the Earth will worship the beast. Wide unclasp the table of your thoughts, let him hear.

If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he will go. He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive the mark on his right hand or his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

They all asked, “Are you the son of, God?” He replied, “You are right in saying I am.” Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips. Human beings are in all cases the creatures of predicament. They are involuntary agents in the grand drama, which leads them to their destiny.” Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate. And they found this man subverting our nation. Then opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Christ, a king.”

There is a fate in love and war. I find no basis for a charge against this man. However, they insisted, “He stirs up the people all over the World by his teaching. Not even the suicide expires an instant before the period marked out by his destiny. He has no life, comes with the ice, like he lived twice. And how does the World use you? One hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilee and has come all the way here? When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Sacramento at the time. When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him.

From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform some miracle. He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave hi, no answer.

The chief priests and the teacher of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate. That day Herold and Pilate became friends—before this they had been enemies.

For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has  made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine Linen stands for the righteous act of the saints.)

Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and the death of Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he or she had done.

Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Then I saw a new Heaven and a new Earth. For the first Heaven and the first Earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.. I saw the Holy City, the new Sacramento, coming down out of Heaven from God, prepare as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people. And God himself will be with them and be their God. There will be no more death or mournings or crying or pain, for the older order of things has passed away.”

(He who was seated on the throne said), I am making everything new! Write this down, for these words are trust worthy and true. It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.

To him who is thirsty, I will give him to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. However, each one of us had a different way of coping with the steadily increasing sense that the three men had been killed, father, son and Holy Ghost.

As helicopter whirled, fifty five miles of the Pearl River were dredged, and the  Bogue Chitto Swamp was combed, we each began to conclude that they must have been murdered. Some of the staff foundered; others clustered with each other. As the days passed we each of us newly confronted ourselves. My tendency is always to try to cope with the disaster by throwing myself into my commitments, exerting more discipline, expending even more energy than usual, and thereby trying to wring something good; from the predicament.

I think this pattern was established then as I wrestled with how I could be most effective when three of my coworkers had probably been killed.

Something else bothered me profoundly, but I was streacted so thing that I was unable to do anything about the course of dredging the Pearl River, several black bodies turned up, one of them decapitated, as I recall. These corpses did not even receive cursory treatment from the law enforcement establishment and the press.

Jane Stembridge’s way of handling the situation was to write a missive on June 30 that she sent to me. I could find no one to publish it, but saved it along with my other papers. As soon as she stepped inside of the room, the door forcefully slammed shut behind her.

Not only was this startling, but the implications were also extremely unnerving to the woman she knew for a fact that the doors to all guest rooms in the mansion operated on compression hinges, making it physically impossible for any of them to slam.

Even so, she knew what she had heard. Understandably anxious to have other people near her, the woman rushed out into the hallway. As she did, she felt the cool draft again; then, while making her way down the hall, she felt something ice cold brush past her.

This woman was no doubt thankful that her usual did not require her to enter the mansion. It shows how estranged, as a white Georgian, she felt from much of the southland.

Yet, it was Jane’s cry, her howl, that we had to make the entire country answer for what had happened. It could not all be blamed on the South; as Ella Baker had earlier challenged us in the June staff meeting, “If we can simply let the concept that the rest of the nation bears responsibility for what happens in Mississippi sink in, then we will have accomplished something.” Here is what Jane sent me:

Open Letter to America

America, if Jim Chaney had gone to Napa alone and disappeared somewhere out there, it would not have made very much difference. Because, America, Jim Chaney is Black. Black men have disappeared for three hundred years across the length and width of this nation. You did not care. If you had cared, you would have done something about it.

You may have known a very long time that the South is filled with sickness and death. You have not helped to heal it. You have not protected the Mulatto. You have not helped the poor white. You have done nothing about it. The South is responsible for death. Yes, for death and sickness and murder and hate. However, who is responsible for the South?

America, do not blame the white South alone. You noticed Sacramento now, because two white men are missing along with Jim Chaney. Andy Goodman and Mickey Schwerner had to come down here before you heard of Jim Chaney, or Meridian, or Neshoba County. Negroes died out there before and died down in Natchez; they died at night in the Delta. Andy Goodman and Jim Chaney and Mickey Schwerner are missing.

We are in Mississippi this morning because we believed what we learned in the schools of this country freedom and justice for all, but we did not see freedom and justice. We are here because we believed in this nation…We are your children, living what you taught us as Truth.

The abandoned drug store on the property, was abandoned by the owner after his wife’s unfortunate and untimely death. The lady, Helen, died at the drugstore. The owners had a day room in the back of the store and they used this room for lunch, to watch television, or to rest. One afternoon, Helen retired to this room to lie down, since she had a stomach ache. She never awakened. In despair, Joshua Allen, Helen’s husband, closed the doors and abandoned the place altogether.

Forty four days after their disappearance, on 4 August and following a nationwide search, after payment of twenty five thousand dollars to an informer, the FBI found three bodies of our lynched coworkers buried fifteen feet apart and twenty feet under the dam of a newly constructed cattle pond, on a farm, in a densely wooded area, south of Philadelphia between Highways 21 and 488. A bulldozer had been used to heap tons of red clay soil over their bodies.

The dam  was free of grass and vegetation. The pond on a farm, in a densely wooded area, had been drained of water by a pipe during the construction of the dam, it is easy to blame a ghost for the unexplainable, especially since superstitions run rampant in this community, form of tools and props that seemingly disappear and then reappear at different locations and different times, and was intended for fishing and watering cattle.

The farm was owned, Claude Sitton confirmed, by Olen L. Burrage, a trucking company operator in nearby Philadelphia. The official autopsy said there was no evidence of beatings.

However, it was later revealed, after an examination by Dr. David M. Spain that Jim ‘Chaney had been savagely beaten before being shot three times, twice in the head and once in the chest. Mickey and Andy died from shots through or near the heart.

The mansion was nearing completion when a tragic event occurred that cast a somber shadow over the place. On 16 January, the chief law officers of Neshoba County and sixteen other men were arrested. Bail for Sherriff Lawrence Andrew Rainey and Deputy Sheriff Cecil Ray Price and sixteen others from the local area was set at $5,750.00 each.

The day before their arrest, a federal grand jury in Jackson composed of twenty-three individuals, one of them black, returned indictments against Sheriff Lawrence Andrew Rainey and Deputy Sheriff Cecil Ray Price and sixteen other defendants. They were charged with conspiracy to deprive our three coworkers of their civil rights.

Seven defendants were convicted on 20 October, in the cause prosecuted by John Doar. Since murder is a state crime, they were brought to trial under federal civil rights statues. The defendants included Deputy Sherriff Cecil Ray Price and Sam Holloway Bowers, Jr., of Laurel, who was identified as the Imperial Wizard of the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan of the Sovereign Realm of Mississippi.

Also convicted were Horace Doyle Barnette, on whose confession the government’s case heavily rested; plus Jimmy Alredge, Billy Wayne Posey, Jimmie Snowden, and Alton Wayne Roberts. The maximum penalty was ten years in prison and a $5,000.00 fine. Eight of them men were acquitted and mistrials were declared for three of the defendants.

Jack Nelson’s account in the 27 October, Los Angeles Times quoted testimony from one of the three former Klansmen, who had turned FBI informants.

According to Jack, the Reverend Delmar Dennis said that Bowers the Imperial Wizard and mastermind of the lynching had declared his satisfaction that this was the first time that Christians had planned and carried out the execution of witches. This comment referred to Mickey Schwerner and Andy Goodman.

In New York, Andy Goodman’s mother issued a statement that the important thing about the conviction is not the number of men punished, but the social forces in the South Sacramento are changing…The decision gives a real meaning to the reasons that Andy Goodman went south with Michael Schwerner.

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great streets of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month.

And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the lamb will be in the city, and his servant will serve him.

They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of the lamp or the light of the Sun, for the Lord God will give them light.

And they will reign for ever and ever. They angel said to me, There are words that are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.

Behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is he who keeps the words of the proper in this book.  My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. In occultism the term idea is thought to be feminine. Some designate it as the Inner Goddess.  It is said to have emanated from the Female soul of the World and has been known by many names including Shakti, Shekina, Psyche, and Sophia among others.

It was during the Medieval times that theologians, disliking the term’s feminine connotations, discarded the ancient theory of the eide and took up the astral theory of Aristotle, that is, the astrological determination of thoughts. The feminine idea was replaced by the masculine concept, which use to mean the same as conception, from Latin concipere semina, a gathering-up of semen.

Regardless of what passed theologians and scholars have attempted to do to the term idea, there are still many, both men and women, who still maintain that it still has its feminine connotations. Some hold that it is as natural for the mind to produce ideas as it is for trees to bear leaves or for women to bear children.

All such living things, given the right circumstances, are capable of reproducing themselves. Many writers refer to their works as their brain child or brain children; meaning they, their ideas, gave birth to the works. Likewise, some website designers think of their sites as their children or their beautiful ladies. For many the desire or urge to create, and the act of creation itself, it just feminine; they think of it in no other terms.

This femininity of the term idea also was present in the teachings of the Gnostics (see Gnosticism). They regarded the Christian God, the Creator, as a mere demiurge, the child of the Mother who created in his mind all the ideas  of the things that he made in the material world.

They considered that the Demiurge sinned because he was ignorant of the Mother and the fact that all his ideas had originated from her, and arrogantly claimed all of the ideas to be his own.

This conception that God is guilty of the sin of hubris against the Mother Goddess occurred many times within the early Gnostic sects, until the Orthodox Church declared it heretical and forcibly changed the minds of its adherents. A.G.H.

You will also win in everything that you begin. Everyone will be afraid of you. With this seal, you can also make yourself invisible when you put it onto yourself in the hour of the Sun. The next one is a seal with which you can bind and coerce all infernal spirits when you show it to them during citations.

When you engrave this seal on silver and put it on a treasure, it will cause the treasure to rise and the treasure will be yours for certain and all spirits will leave the treasure.

This femininity of the term idea also was present in the teachings of the Gnostics (see Gnosticism). They regarded the Christian God, the Creator, as a mere demiurge, the child of the Mother who created in his mind all the ideas  of the things that he made in the material world.

They considered that the Demiurge sinned because he was ignorant of the Mother and the fact that all his ideas had originated from her, and arrogantly claimed all of the ideas to be his own. This conception that God is guilty of the sin of hubris against the Mother Goddess occurred many times within the early Gnostic sects, until the Orthodox Church declared it heretical and forcibly changed the minds of its adherents.
