Nobody has any conscience about adding to the improbabilities of a marvelous tale. Reputation is the most valuable asset entrusted to a CEO by the board and shareholders, corporate reputation is estimated to be worth about 4 to 5 percent of sales per year. Reputation is a perception of value or distinctiveness that holds you apart from peers and competitors. Reputation builds a competitive advantage.

Research indicates that organizations with better reputations do better financially, attract and keep talent at lower costs, have lower costs of capital, and more easily gain support from government and other stakeholders in times of need. Every organization will have a reputation, whether or not they help shape that reputation. People judge organizations in a variety of ways—by what they do, by what they say, and by what others say they do. Those organizations that do not manage their reputations will have it managed for them by competitors, critics and others.

Reputation management is a process, not an event. Activities like corporate social responsibility, crisis management, and the like are important tactics, but they will not be successful if the organization does not align itself to behave in ways that build reputation, credibility and trust among those who determine whether or not it will succeed.

In an effort to be seen as more “human” or “Hu-woman” police officers are taking to the media and clowning around. We have seen police officers in the Castro district, in San Francisco, California teasing and flaunting their attractiveness to gay men by showing off their muscles and becoming local celebrities. We have police officers using their uniforms in gay parades. And it does not stop there.

There are other officers, who are supposed to stop distracted driving, in their cars lip synchronizing to Taylor Swift songs, while they are driving. This is creating a problem, the behavior is not making officers look more human, it is making them look like clowns and they are confusing the children by catering to the needs of homosexuals and transgender people, something most adults do not want their kids to be exposed to at such a young age.

Adults want child to look up to authorities and learn proper behavior from our leaders. Libel is a false statement about a person’s character or reputation that is communicated to others in writing or in some other visual, permanent form. Each state has its own laws of defamation, but in most states a person can sue you and win their case if they can prove that the statement you issues was truly defamatory, containing words such as: thief, untrustworthy, or incompetent, which could ruin one’s good name or image. Now, police are becoming even bigger hypocrites by slandering Elsa, which is against the law that our officers are supposed to uphold.

Police officers, from Harlan police department in Kentucky, issues a warrant for the arrest of Elsa, an animated actress from the Disney children’s film Frozen. The statement on the police Facebook page and on the news states: A warrant has been issued for Elsa, the suspect is a blonde female, last seen wearing a long blue dress and is known to burst into song ‘Let it Go!’ As you can see by the weather, she is very dangerous. Do not attempt to apprehend her alone.

Now that statement bothers me because the law and justice is not a joke. We are at a time where it seems the system is failing, police are not upholding the law and criminals are allowed to run wild and say and do as they please. Not only that, but children are very sensitive and telling them that one of their role models is dangerous and there is a warrant out for her arrest, not only scares the kids, but it ruins the reputation of Elsa because the reports are absolutely false.

False pretense is a crime, also known as false representation, which involves misrepresentation facts or circumstances in order to defraud someone. As a result, Disney could launch a civil or criminal lawsuit, against the Kentucky police department to recover their losses. However, it is more than likely this case would not be considered criminal, and would be referred by a judge, to a civil court, due to the fact that criminal courts are very busy.

When a defamatory statement is written or otherwise permanently recorded—as in the newspaper or on television—it is called libel. Because the police department, in Kentucky, issued a statement, which truly harmed Elsa’s reputation by accusing her of a crime, her representatives would not have to show that Elsa suffered harm because the defamatory statement is one that could affect her in her trade or profession. Maybe some people will take the reports issues by the police department seriously and not want their kids to buy anymore Disney, Frozen or Elsa products.

Public figures (such as politicians or celebrities) are normally expected to withstand more criticism than private persons are. Therefore, is a public person sues for libel or slander, the court requires not only proof of the elements involved in the case, but also evidence that the defamer acted falsely and maliciously in making the defamatory remarks.

Because the police department flat out lied and issues a false statement, simply as a smear tactic with no basis in fact, Disney would have a good case. If Disney wins their suit for defamation, the Kentucky police department will be required to pay damages—that is to compensate Disney with money. If Disney establishes that the police departments statements were made with malice, the Kentucky police department might have to pay Disney and Elsa an additional amount of money, called punitive damages.

I really do not find matters of the law, by officials who are supposed to uphold the law, are worthy of being joked about. The law is a very serious matter and should never be used as a source of comedy. Lies is lies. Howsever they come, they did not ought to come, and they come from the father of lies, and work round to the same. A compact that is false between two is equally so between a hundred or hundred thousand; for as ten millions of circles can never make a square, so the united voice of myriads cannot lend the smallest foundation to falsehood. It is thus that reason speaks, and untutored nature says the same thing. Those who tell one fib will hardly stick at another.

If the police want to be seen as more human, they need to not have so many hard contacts with the public. We know many of you take your careers very seriously and are good people, but there are other officers who are corrupt and sarcastic and they are doing a disservice to us all. Soft contacts are like meet and greets with the public or issuing warnings, and that will make you be seen as human or hu-woman, and not just a mean enforcer.

However, at the same time, as officers, you do not want to be seen as too soft, sarcastic or sinister because then you lose all respect, and when you go out to do your job, you will be met by an aggressor. Remember, those who will tell one fib will hardly stick at another. There us an artful and refined distinction between communicating a lie and telling one.
