Youth is insolent; it is its right—its necessity; it has got to assert itself, and all assertion in this World of doubts is a defiance, is an insolence. She flicked her wrist neatly out of Doctor Harry’s pudgy careful fingers and pulled the sheet up to her chin. The brat ought to be in knee breeches. Doctoring around the country with spectacles on his nose, “Get along now. Take your schoolbooks and go. There’s nothing wrong with me.” Doctor Harry spread a warm paw like a cushion on her forehead where the forked green vein danced and made her eyelids twitch. “Now be a good girl, and we’ll have you up in no time.” Granny replies, “That’s no way to speak to a woman nearly eighty years old just because she’s down. I’d have you respect your elders, young man.” Doctor Harry responds, “Well, Missy, excuse me.” He patted her on the cheek, “But I’ve got to warn you, haven’t I? You’re a marvel, but you must be careful or you’re going to be good and sorry.”
Contrary to popular notions, the majority of elders do not languish in poverty, and each new generation of elderly seems to fare better financially than the previous ones, in many cases. By the time they retire, many seniors not only have their assets paid off, but have at least $225,600.00 in cash and $77,300 in a 401K. In addition by the time they retire, many anchors have a social security check of $1,294.00 each. So while you are young, it is important to work, buy a house and car, pay off debt and save up so you are debt free by the time you reach retirement. Those are nice figures for those who are established, but you could imagine how retiring in your 20s might cause anxiety for some youth, especially if the retirement is due to injury. None the less, learn the value of minding your own business, so you will be able to provide for your future.
Some pessimism exists today about the future of Social Security and whether there will be sufficient funds to support the people who are currently retired, so we need to make sure our tax money is being properly spent, not on education, but to fund your Social Security retirement. Instead of having a 401K and IRA, it may be more reasonable to pay higher taxes toward Social Security, as that money will stay in America, it will be reinvested into our people, and fund your retirement, while creating new jobs. The Dow Jones is near closing at 18,000 (a record high) and 334,000 jobs were added this month, so the system is working well. Things are improving under the President Obama Administration.
Nonetheless, seniors still have some concerns. Many seniors, young and mature, are abused in their own houses, in the care of relatives, and even in facilities responsible for their care. If you suspect that an elderly person is at risk from a neglectful or overwhelmed caregiver, or being sexually or financially preyed on, then speak up. As elders become more physically frail, they are less likely to stand up for themselves to hooliganism or fight back if being attacked. These wonderful people may not see or hear as well and may always been alone, which leaves them open as targets for unscrupulous people to take advantage of them mentally, physically, sexually or financially. Social isolations is one of the aspects many seniors, both young and historic dread. As one matures, individuals may become less socially active, but it is not normal to live in isolation, and it is unhealthy. Genesis 2.18 reports, it is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
When a man can say what he likes with the certainty that every word will be reported, and can speak to those around him as one manifestly their superior, he always looms large. Over 60 percent of antique senior citizens, in America, are married and live with their spouses; another 8 percent live with children or grandchildren; and 12 percent share their homes with people unrelated to them and 8 live in nursing care facilities and 2 percent are truly homeless and on the streets, sleeping in parks. Of the senior citizens surveyed, who are 75 and over, 38 percent of them live alone. While living alone may be a symbol of independence, it is common for people to experience a feeling or greater social isolation—most of the other people are always asking for something, have a sad story and drama to share, are looking to get into your personal or financial business so they can fit themselves into your lives, or are just sneaky or chronically unhappy. Crabby Chronic Cara is a prime example, nothing good to say, cannot remember names, and lets her friend have a key to the building, but is always policing other tenants.
Therefore, retirement serves social ties with people from an important sphere of life, and the deaths of neighbors, friends, and family members (especially one’s spouse) may seriously limit an individual’s social interaction. Some elderly seniors and young ones fill this void by joining the gym, watching soap operas and talking about them with their friends, joining a book club, or historical society, attending church and Kingdom Hall, going to meetings at the League of Cities, or moving to a retirement community. Still, some seniors, classic or brand new become more selective and reclusive. They like peace, and happiness. Air and manners often express more than the accompanying words.
However, longstanding people, who live alone, often fear for their health, property, family, safety, and well-being. Official crime statistics indicate that people that are over the age of 65 are less likely to be victimized by crime, yet older people express greater fear of crime than people in other age categories. From time to time we hear shocking reports of abuse of the elderly. Huston, Texas, 21 June 2013, a 74 year old man was found dead in his home, with blunt force trauma to the head. Celestino S. Flores, was found dead, in his home, in southeast Huston. Erick Eduardo Hernandez, age 18, and Gragary Thomas Flores, the grandson of the victim, are charged with capital murder. And a third suspect has been referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on the same charge. Investigations shows that the door, at the residence, had been forced open, and several items stolen, including a green 2003 Ford Explorer.
In the past, elder abuse was primarily associated with isolated cases of mistreatment of residents in nursing homes, by unscrupulous and uncaring staff, who would steal their money, jewelry and other valuables like televisions sets, DVD players, and Christmas gifts. It is estimated that over 500,000 elderly people have been physically abused by their children. The most known cause of elderly abuse occurred 1892, when Lizzie Borden was arrested for the axe murders of her father and mother. On 4 August 1892, the parents of Lizzie Borden were found dead. Many people suspected Lizzie Borden of the double murder because she was unstable, unhappy with her life, had not accomplished anything and wanted to have a baby; she used to hide knives under her bed, would hear things that were not there, and plot how she would attack intruders, and her parents were also rich. Lizzie wanted to take her parents lifestyle without putting any effort into building her own life. However, Lizzie Borden was eventually acquitted of the murders because women were viewed as too weak to kill because she was a woman.
When your children have mental issues and economic times are hard, you could become a victim. Reported cases in elder abuse have increased in almost every state. Elder abuse tends to take place where seniors live: most often in the home where the abusers are often adult children, other family members or in-laws, grandchildren, or spouses or partners of the antique person. Elder abuse can also occur in institutional settings, especially long-term care facilities. Abuse of elders takes many forms, some involving intimidation or threats against the young and mature senior citizens involving neglect, and others involving financial chicanery, health care abuse or fraud.
Sometimes caregivers will mistreat seniors by physically abusing them, pushing them to the ground, shoving them, rough handling, beating, physical assault and rape. Psychological abuse, consisting of threats, verbal assaults, intimidation, and isolation, is not as violent and attracts far less attention, but can be equally as devastating. The senior may also suffer neglect, where they are deprived of adequate food, medication, or other goods and services, or financial exploitation, where their money, cars, and property are misused, mismanaged, squandered stolen.
Approximately 2 million elders are abused every year. Elder abuse is easier to hide or carry up. Bruises, lacerations, and broken bones can be attributed to falls and accidents, and even if victims complain of maltreatment their accusations may be attributed to senility, the influence of medication or other discrediting factors. Whereas with children, school officials, social workers, medical personnel, and others legally required to report suspected child abuse, there is no such protection for the senior citizens. They way to tell if a senior is being abused is if they tell you as much, you see injuries, damaged property, missing money, or their personality changes. The transplanting of mature people is like the transplanting of historic trees; a twelvemonth usually sees them wither and die away.
Many people believe that jealousy is normal and that everyone is jealous, but that is not the case. Mrs. Beverly Mahone, says that “the problem with the World is people have gone from loving people and using things, to using people and loving things.” Jealousy is an aversive emotional reaction evoked by real or imagined relationships where others seem to have more and better possession, or one is perceived to be favored by an individual or authority figure. Some people also think that jealousy is a part of love, and it shows how strong an individual’s love for you is, but that is not the case. Several psychologists believe that jealousy is actually the result of someone’s pride being hurt, or it develops because a person is insecure and afraid of losing someone or something they want to control and possess. For instance, a person who finds that someone they think highly of enjoys spending time with someone else might start feeling inadequate, which produces jealousy. Or, perhaps your best friend got a BMW for his birthday, and you wanted one, but could not afford it at the time, this may cause you friend to feel insignificant. People can also be jealousy of traits.
If you are a social and smart person, another person might want that quality, but it is not in them, so they will develop intense feelings of envy. They may start to ignore you, talk about you behind your back or try to embarrass you. People who are happy with their lives and give whatever they are working on all of their attention are more likely not to experience jealousy. In contrast, a person who has low-self-esteem is more likely to be jealous of others. Jealousy is an uncomfortable feeling that can often be felt by others, even if one does not say a word. Jealousy is dangerous because it can destroy a relationship. Sometimes people who are jealousy of you really do care about you, but it is so hard for them to retain their envy, that they may not want to spend time with you because it devalues their opinions of themselves. Jealousy can make a person feel angry, depressed, and less attractive. They only way for people to deal with their jealousy is by working harder to get what they want, or going to therapy so they can learn to scale these feelings back.
